my "favorite" MH370 theory was the one where "maybe the pilots passed out / died while the plane was still climbing so it kept on climbing and eventually got too high and just flew off into outer space".
Air - " we will see about this"
that’s almost as good as “maybe jfk wasn’t shot and his head just did that”
Brought to you by people who think jet engines work like rockets.
That actually makes less sense than the alien theory
lowkey thats helios 522, but the plane just went autopilot instead and ended itself after the engine blewup due to lack of fuel
cant believe Charlie piloted MH370 and got away with it
Imagine hearing "That's about it. See ya." over the intercom moments before the plane suddenly nosedives into the Indian Ocean.
It's because he found D.B. Cooper and got the plans for the perfect heist from him
Wait, I was sure he was D.B. Cooper..... thus he was fully prepared for this. 😂
Hey Lumiya
I was just thinking that myself
It seems like a lot of people tend to forget that it took 2 years of searching to find Air France 447 on the ocean floor and that plane went down almost exactly where they thought it did, on its intended flight path.
It's not remotely strange that MH370 hasn't been found.
I have a feeling it will be decades before we find it, I think it will be found in my lifetime however
I mean, even some cars that crashed into a river or pond sometimes takes years to be found. And this plane crashes into the super massive and probably very deep Indian Ocean. Wont be surprised it would take a total coincidence to found it.
@@debishvebishwish4839speaking of a coincidence, that's exactly how a missing person's car was found in a golf course or neighborhood pond when someone was using Google Maps while looking at an area in Florida, I believe. It's amazing what satellites can uncover if you're looking in the right area.

I do wanna add that cockpit doors have been made extremely durable ever since 9/11. There’s a keypad plane staff can use to get in, but the pilot can turn that off.
The year after this the Germanwings co-pilot who locked the pilot out and then flew into the mountains happened. I think maybe on MH370, the co-pilot went to the bathroom and then the pilot locked him out and took over. It would explain the first officers phone, the turn, the rolling black out, and the “stress” in the pilots voice could be because he knew what was going to happen.
@@Papacheeks6 Yeah, that crash was fcked up. The captain was heard banging and yelling, telling his co-pilot to open the door through the cockpit voice recorder. It was so messed up.

Scary sentence having “black holes” and Don Lemon in the same place😬
47:41 hi Charlie, pilot here, yes government monitored zones are absolutely visible. They are referred to as restricted airspaces typically. Not always restricting flight, but restricting relative anonymity. Governments need to know exactly who is entering their airspace
And thus pilots need to know if they are entering a government monitored territory. Not all flights are permitted in certain places so pilots need to know if they have proper clearance.
Pretty sure the lyric is "invisible airwaves"

No because it’s not an actual theory in the real world.
Without giving away too much about him personally, my uncle worked at Rockwell Collins as an avionics engineer through the '80s and '90s when they were setting up the autopilot systems specifically on the 777 (among other contracts and aircraft). I once asked him about MH370 and he simply said "Foul play. That's all I'll say about it." I originally thought that he was just stubbornly refusing to believe that his work could have problems, but today I learned what he probably was already thinking: if the plane disappeared between two airspaces, it was suddenly MUCH more likely that this was not a tragic accident. To this day it's kind of a hot button topic for him and freaks him out to talk about it, him knowing how complex those systems are and how many redundencies and failsafes there are to either prevent, alleviate, or report the significance of issues and malfunctions, and how possible it is that something very, very, very wrong was going on up in the sky that day that nobody will ever know about
Hmm very interesting thar your uncle thinks it’s foul play but I don’t disagree. Nothing makes any sense as to why everything seems so keen around wanted to stay hidden
"Foul play. That's all I'll say about it." is the most r/nosleep answer someone could have ever given to that question.
My biggest question has always been "ok but WHY?? If it was foul play, what was the goal?"
@@00Indeedibly00 Many theories, but the captain was well knowm as a massive aviation geek. It makes perfect sense to me that he would've wanted to kill himself flying a plane and he would've wanted to make the plane disappear so A: He isn't remembered as a monster who killed hundreds of people and B: The case becomes a historic moment in aviation
Your disgusting mate, how do you even come to that conclusion
I believe the reason the pilot may want it to be a mystery is to HIDE the fact he killed himself. Perhaps out of shame, or a desire to avoid shame on his family or maybe ensure that his family recieved compensation from the airline for his death.
Thats why I think he did it the way he did
another reason someone said in the comments is life insurance which doesn’t pay off for self inflicted deaths.
Your a silly little man
People who believe this dont know our culture. Sure mental illness is frowned upon, scide thoughts are very, very, very frowned upon and just to get mental help is like, pretty hard because people would shun you if they know. Some jobs and universities course would literally try to push you away when you seek help, it happened to one of my acquaintance.
Also one thing people don't get is scide here is already frowned upon, they believe you would go to Hell for it and taint your family name FOREVER. If he really did commit scide together with the passengers, he didn't only drag his family, but 200 other families too. It's hard to explain it but it's very impossible for him to choose this route. Scide do happen in our country but they usually would find a quiet way, not like this.
its honestly heartbreaking that he felt shame about the suicide
it just makes me think he felt shame about his mental health in general and didn't get help because of it, it could've been prevented if he spoke about it instead of hiding his feelings and his suicidal thoughts
it really is just because of stigma on mens mental health that even after death he doesn't want to be remembered as unwell
i hope his family is doing well
(this is all IF he did do it)

The most common theory is that the pilot locked the copilot out of the cockpit and depressurized the plane. A few years later Germanwings crashed when one of the pilots did the same thing (minus the depressurization). If we had found MH370 and saw that leaving the pilot alone was a dangerous thing, it might have saved the Germanwings flight.
I never heard of that incident. Wow. You might just be right.
Mentioning “Mentour Pilot” is awesome, his channel does an absolute amazing job explaining and presentation the lost flight. I hope all of you guys watch it.
at the 18:30 mark, Wendigoon starts giving the thousand yard stare
HIs attention span got sent to the backrooms.
“Where am I? Who am I?
What’s the actual difference in the flight velocity of Africa and Europe Swallows?”
1:45:40 - I think on this point of why the co-pilot would be out of his seat and have his phone turned on, I think the pilot could have told him there was a problem and sent him out of the cockpit telling him to check on it, then locked him out of the cockpit. The pilot might even have said he had to lock the door behind him for safety, buying him even more time before the co-pilot realized something was seriously wrong with the pilot. Obviously that is not the protocol, but when the senior pilot tells the trainee to do something, is the trainee going to stand up to them? Especially if there is a problem going on? Then, once the co-pilot is out of the cabin he will also be affected by the oxygen deprivation from depressurization, which then explains why he didn't make a call when his phone briefly connected, because he wasn't awake or alert enough to recognize it connected
Nice theory, I was wondering what could have happened to the other pilot, because outright murder didn’t seem like an option, especially in the cockpit.
Wasn't this exactly what happened in Germanwings pilot s**cide?
I essentially agree. Green Dot aviation suggests that it could’ve been something as simple as the pilot asking the trainee to make them a cup of coffee to get him to leave the cockpit
@@brettfafata3017 If this theory is true, and had we recovered the black box and learned about the risk of leaving the pilot alone, it might have prevented the Germanwings disaster.
Thank you for mentioning this. In Greendot Aviation’s video he posits that the copilot had access to a longer lasting crew oxygen mask, meaning he would have been likely the only person awake long enough to try his phone. The motive of the pilot doesn’t seem hard to believe I’m not sure why people question it, pre meditated mass murder with meticulous planning is not a new thing to modern humans, and Pilots are still human.
Knowing what we know today, I wouldn't be surprised if Boeing actually withheld information that hindered the search effort to cover up some manufacturing flaw
That’s what makes me assume the lithium fire is the most likely. They didn’t declare it was a dangerous good and with the flight disappearing they could blame it on the pilot limiting liability for shipping an insanely dangerous amount of lithium batteries.
@@settame1 I don't think it was a fire because I don't think the plane would've been able to stay in the air for 7 hours while on fire , something like a plane I would think would go down in a short amount of time

Interestingly enough the mh370 wiki context warning is kinda notorious in the aviation accident community on UA-cam, it gets added to completely different flight accidents and crashes from different times and airlines.
@@williambeisel5686 I'm sure that's got nothing to do with mh370 being a boeing flight
@@DackelDelayand youd be right, it's based on the plane crash search terms. Boeing has nothing to do with it, because youtube's bot often erroneously puts the context banner onto crashes of Airbus and Douglas planes.
@@generalgrievous2202 just fyi: i was being just semi-serious, this being a podcast for casual tinfoil hat wearers and all ;)
thanks for your insight nevertheless
I do believe the flight was hijacked by Captain Zahrie there is just so much evidence stacked in the favor of suggesting he did it, He could have easily told the Co pilot Fariq to go do a task or waited for him to use the bathroom before depressurizing the plane and you can lock someone out of the cockpit if they leave it, As far as Charlie being so stunned as to why he would try to hide it, It seems pretty obvious to me that if it was known he did it on purpose then it's ruled a suicide and therefore his family would get no life insurance and the airline would not compensate his family that's the most reasonable assumption in my mind.
Yeah this case fascinates me so much even though i think it's pretty clear cut case that Captain Zaharie was the one who hijacked the plane. For it to have been anyone else makes no real sense. I also believe the depressurization unlike charlie which makes it all the more eerie, the dude basically flew for like 7hrs with 200 dead people behind him. It's impossible to get into his headspace but seeing how meticulous the rest of the Hijacking was it makes sense that he would go to great lengths to hide it. Wouldn't be a stretch to think he wanted to go down as a unsolvable mystery, giving him control over the situation.
But for what reason? Why hijack the plane in the first place?
I have a few ideas for episodes:
- H.H. Holmes
- The Byford Dolphin Accident
- The Sinking of Scandies Rose
- 2010 Copiapo Mining Accident
- The Invasion of Panama (and psychological warfare. How they got Manuel Noriega to surrender)
- Pablo Escobar and the "Columbian Conflict"
- The Symbionese Liberation Army (apparently, they managed to brainwash a lady they kidnapped. IDK if you believe her or not though)
- The Weathermen or the Weather Underground (apparently, back in the day detonations were occurring on a weekly basis, and they only stopped when one of the devices detonated on them. Some say many of its members, having been coached in the university system in their early years, then reentered the university system at a later age as professors. Makes you wonder what they're up to now, or if they are or aren't as radical as they used to be in youth...)
- The Normalmstorg Robbery (Stockholm Syndrome)
- Juliane Koepke
- Reports of Ball Lightning (I don't know if anyone ever found an explanation for them. Interesting way to go into tangents on other freaky-looking phenomenon in electrical storms)
That's all I could think of for now, random brainstorms and stuff. Throw in your ideas in the comments, they're probably better than mine.

EDIT - 1:28:55
A reason for the intense desire to not want the crash site found is pretty simple to take a guess on: Insurance money.
As long as no one knows for sure who was flying the plane, the family can still claim life insurance. You see that sort of thing all the time in "self-decease" cases where the person still wants their loved ones to get taken care of properly.
probably also just don’t want to be found, letting their loved ones live through the shame. as a loved and respected person in their community, i can understand how and why.
That's what makes the most sense to me. There's no reason I hijacker would want to hide it as they're usually at least trying to make a statement with their actions (if nothing else) but someone with a family ending themselves might. If he really felt like he couldn't go on, he may have felt ensuring insurance payout would be on thing he could do for his family. Having attempted myself (15 years since attempting, dw about me), these kinds of things are on your mind sometimes when you're thinking about it.
That said, I will never wrap my head around being willing to take all those people with him. He may of thought about his family but not the family of the strangers on board who had absolutely nothing to-do with him. I felt bad enough about whoever would have to find me, I'll never understand people that take others out with them like that.
That's my thoughts. Even if it wasn't about the money if he could make it seem like he wasn't responsible it would be easier for his family and especially his kids to digest that he died in a strange accident than for them to know he was responsible for it. And he probably didn't want to leave a body behind to traumatize his family to have to see, and he could die doing what he loved (not to excuse what he did)
@@sourgreendolly7685 yeah i agree completely with the ladder half of what you said, and sympathize with it too. but i swear people like this, when they're so corrupted with the temptation to end everything. can be good people up until that final moment, and i can imagine to a person like that. it doesnt take alot of effort to do the upmost, most horrible thing, on an instant, if they know it'll be the last thing they do and wont face reprocussions.
its so fucked up, but I think its both, for insurance money, and because whoever did it, knew they couldnt be verifably definitively blamed for doing it, if the wreckage was never found, along with the black box. but I dont understand like prepping for such a thing, cuz one pilot had evidence against him via the flight sims. so if he had planned it from that point forward, i really got no idea how you take out a whole plane of people with you and at no point in prepping to do that, feel sympathy or express something is wrong you, unless you're just some total hidden psychopath. cuz an example of someone doing the opposite was the "Sky King" that guy in i think Seattle or something that stole a plane, by himself, with no one on board, and crashed into an island and died. he didnt kill anyone and he actively tried not too. I just think when people point at the fact he crashed into an island, they fail to realize he probably just wanted his body recovered to some degree. hence why he didnt dive into the ocean. like that dude, was clearly just doing it to end his own life.
what confuses me though is neither one of the pilots on the 370 show that they would have any reason to be so malicious towards the lives of other people. neither one of them showed signs of that, so its hard to say they did it on purpose, but all signs point towards an intentional accident, so what the hell happend man.
You guys should consider doing a episode about Mr Cruel, he’s basically Australia’s unsolved bogeyman
Is that what Wolf Creek was based on??
I feel like that would be particularly hard to make a video on (for them). It's difficult to make jokes about crimes involving children, and It isn't in their style to make videos that are completely depressing without cracking a joke or two.

You are a Boeing 777-200 ER airplane. You've just taken off from the Kuala Lumpur International Airport. The over 200 people tickle your insides to an annoying degree as you fly over the South China Sea. You think to yourself, "what has become of my life, and why is it so boring" as you fly over the South China Sea. Ever since you were constructed back in 2002 you'd always wished for something exiting to happen. Besides a small incident in Shanghai you've always had a great track record, and though the temptation was there to just... fly off somewhere you had never fallen to those intrusive thoughts before. That is... until you hear it, a voice beckoning out from the opposite direction of you, telling, commanding, begging you to fly to it. Without a seconds hesitation despite the years worth of upstanding safety knowledge and the fact that you're fully loaded with people, you lock the pilot controls and dart towards the source. You continue to fly over the Andaman Sea, ignoring the sheer panic of the passengers and crew within you. Then you see it, some weird space-time apparition greets you with an infinite strangeness. Without hesitation you fly into it. To say the least its quite a bumpy ride as the space time distortion sheers off several small parts of you. However after giving your passengers the worst acid trip of their lives, you're spat out right in front of a massive tentacled jet black flying saucer. It immediately pulls you into its hangar and has its minions forcibly extricate all of your passengers into its unknowable bowels. They are no longer your concern however, as the saucer gives the new purpose in life you've always wanted, promising you fantastical airborne adventures and powers you've never known. It shows you your first mission: the capture of another Boeing airplane of a strange, and frankly shoddy make that the saucer had once captured but had escaped. With a delightful glee you accept the mission and after an upgrade process that goes much smoother this time in comparison to that Boeing 737 Max's upgrade, you set out to bring this airplane to justice.

maybe the pilot put an absurd amount of effort into making it a big mystery because that's what he wanted. it's a long shot but think about it. that german guy that flew a plane into the side of a mountain gets mentioned from time to time but it's a footnote in aviation disaster history. no one's making documentaries about it, no one's making 2 hour long podcasts about it, no one is still having in-depth discussions about it. MH370, on the other hand, you can hardly think of a more well-known event in aviation disaster history. maybe 9/11 counts? Either way, we're still talking about it and maybe that's what he wanted
exactly
so just some info on black boxes.
- They only record the last 30 minutes of a flight, like a tape recording over itself. Thats another reason that the pilot didnt crash it immediately, the lack of verbal info that it would provide would make the cause even more unknown.
- they have a radio beacon that will send out frequencies for 30 days, before the battery on that part dies. Im unsure if that specific part can be tampered with or not, as it was not found.
- Stuff like altitude and speed are recorded on a part of the black box called the FDR, Flight data recorder, and the cockpit voices are on the part known as the Cockpit voice recorder,
Hope that clears some stuff up about them

The subtle shift in the pilot's inflection is indeed indicative of him being distracted, but the question is: with what?
I don't personally buy Charlie's theory that it was friction between the FO that caused it. It's possible, sure, but I'd like to think if the FO had even an inkling of an idea of what the pilot was attempting to do, he would have attempted to intervene. And that intervention would have resulted in a much more drastic tonal shift in the pilot's voice or possibly no transmissions at all if a physical altercation ensued.
I'm more inclined to reason that he was simply in the process of doing all of his sick fuckery (aka turning off navigation systems, depressurizing the cabin, locking out the FO, etc) and called back to ATC simply to ensure they were still oblivious. He was trying to avoid a jet scramble interception. Like, it honestly wouldn't surprise me if he was in the process of locking out the FO during that transmission even.
So my thought on the whole "why make it mysterious if you're unaliving" is that if he was going through maratial issues that drove him to this point, he might have wanted to make his wife hurt. Losing someone to themselves and losing someone to some other force both hurt, but differently. Maybe in his mind, if he was involved in a tragic accident it would hurt her more; knowing there was nothing that she could have done to prevent it. Losing someone to themselves often comes with "maybe if I had done this", "maybe I could have saved them" thoughts, but to an "outside force" there isn't really anything you could have done differently to save them aside from maybe not letting them go, this was just meant to happen and we had to end on a sour note. You just feel more helpless in that situation.
But that's just some speculation on IF he did this.
The Lore Lodge did an uhh-mazing job at covering this in their video pretty recent. I'm sad Wendigoon didn't shout him out I highly recommend
I appreciate the work that goes into the show notes, such a nice addition to go along with the show

At the end of the video, Charlie and Jackson talk about ways one pilot would have been able to take over the plane without interference from the other pilot. But its easy - just wait for them to go to the bathroom, then lock the door behind them. The locked out pilot knows the code to the door, but it can overridden by the console. Ironically, these are safeguards in place to prevent hijackings.
This hits so close to home. I live in Singapore, just south of Malaysia. This was on the news for the next few damned months.
Every fire onboard a plane has given the crew at least enough time to declare an emergency. Never was there no radio transmission
Freescale Semiconductors had 13 of their senior engineers on this flight. VERY suspicious.
had to scroll way too far for this comment.
Ya but none of the people on that plane were the patent holders so it’s pretty unlikely they were killed off to get it since none of the people that would need to happen to were even on it.
@@bloomleaf8310 patent holder to what? you don't think it's suspicious a company would allow that many of their senior engineers on the same flight?
@@BrazaBryan so something that was floating around was that the people on the mh370 were going to review a patent for a semiconductor that they were working on which Freescale was doing but none of the people on the plane were any of the 4 who actually held the patent (i don't remember the specifics of why this was believed to cause it though.)
and i would have to see have they usually do travel for me to be swayed one way or the other if they routinely sent decent sized groups like that then to me there is nothing there but if they had always sent them in like groups of 2-3 over multiple plains then ya it would be suspicious but i don't think we have enough to go either way on that.
@@BrazaBryan "you don't think it's suspicious a company would allow that many of their senior engineers on the same flight?"
I'm confident it happens all the damn time, because the vast majority of companies don't share the same borderline psychotic obsession with continuity and survival that the US government does for example.
The dopamine I get from seeing a Red Thread AND CreepCast episode drop at the same time.
SAME. I love both shows so much. I can’t even decide which I like better.
As an avionics technician, all the 'airways' can be displayed on any modern moving map GPS. The flight sim Charlie played most likely has that option too, you just have to know where to turn it on and it depends on what type of GPS it is.
There was actually an instance where someone onboard the plane called a loved one, BUT she got scared and didn't pick up the phone. (I'm not sure how true that one is, I think it was on the Netflix documentary and I can't find anything on it besides reddit and ladbible)
Also, it is theorised that Zaharie was looking at his hometown before he started going straight to the Indian ocean:
“Captain Zaharie dipped his wing to see Penang, his home town,” Simon Hardy, a Boeing 777 senior pilot and instructor, said on “60 Minutes.”
“If you look very carefully, you can see it’s actually a turn to the left, and then start a long turn to the right. And then [he does] another left turn. So I spent a long time thinking about what this could be, what technical reason is there for this and, after two months, three months thinking about this, I finally got the answer: Someone was looking out the window.” (source: nationalpost)
In my opinion I think this was mass S*****e. I think there are too many coincidences relating to Zaharie. Although I do agree that it would be awful if he actually was trying everything to get the plane under control and couldn't.
That radio wave signal dispersion is some Star Trek level technobabble. And I mean that endearingly. Dude's a genius.
Boeing is monotoring this podcast for sure 😂😂
Next episode: "Why the Boeing Whistleblower was a huge liar full of shit, the conspiracy to damage Boeing's reputation"
As much as I love the red thread, I wish there were more topics that have not already been talked to death over the past years.
honestly kinda real. i love all three of them as creators and it’s nice to refresh my memory on these popular cases, and i’m sure they’re probably doing it to cover ground and get decent reach at the start w popular topics, but i would love to learn something completely new from them.
Eh I can go either way tbh. I enjoy the amount of research they do into it. Even if I’ve heard about it before I still get more info than I likely knew + 3 different takes and opinions intertwined. I kinda like it personally but I agree they could add more new topics as well
As an airport ramp agent, I can say that you can just shorten the seven seven seven to “triple 7”. That’s what we call it 😄
Also, the lithium battery thing probably wasn’t an issue since they’re pretty much in every flight that has an electric scooter/wheelchair using passenger.
Basically if it was a lithium ion battery fire, the emergency fire suppression system in the pit (cargo pit) would activate. It’s nothing that would make the pilots unable to respond to anything.
i could be wrong tbf but two tons of batterys seems a bigger risk than just the battery in a mobility aid 😭(i dont think it had anything to do with the batteries but i feel like its quite a big difference)
Isaiah looks quite zoned out in this episode
Ya he yawned like 50 times throughout the entire video
Greendot aviation provides the best explanation of how the pilot managed to take control of the plane without the first officer being able to stop him
I mean realistically it’s all speculation, I have a huge problem assuming how people should act in situations like these based on how they should act we realistically can’t know how any person would react to that.
I also find it suspicious that right after this flight goes missing they pass legislation that requires planes with more then 2 ion batteries to comply with hazardous goods requirements.
@bloomleaf8310 Because people were speculating that they caused the problems on the flight, the case was so big it brought the dangers on ion batteries on planes into the public eye, which then forced the government to act to fix the problem.
@@bloodyneptune generally changes to regulations like that don’t happen just over speculation, so I tend to find a lot more validity in the fire theory then a lot of others.
@@bloomleaf8310
The government could not definitively prove what happened to MH370 but the public was getting informed and afraid of lithium batteries because of this case so the government placated them.
The fire theory makes no sense. Why did he turn off his ACARS(it’s 100% proven that it was turned off by hand and not a system failure)? Why did he do a 180 and fly off into the ocean? I’ve never heard of a fire taking out a plane before anyone can contact the ground to inform them there is a fire.
@@bloomleaf8310I think you have far too much trust or hope in the competence of government regulators. They can regulate things for all sorts of dumb PR reasons if they want to....

Charlie being baffled by why the suicide pilot didn’t want 200 people banging on the cockpit doors for 7 hours and trying to contact the ground is so weird bro 😂

i don’t often comment under yt vids, but I have to say this episode was truly great. i was really into the mh370 disappearance a few years back and thought i knew a whole lot about it. i figured i would watch this episode (like i do every read thread one, ofc) for casual interest. turns out there is a lot i didn’t know about the case, and a lot that’s come out in the past few years. shoutout to Jackson for the amazing research. i learned so much, and this tragedy keeps on paining me. thank you red threat.
Just because you don't understand why a suicidal pilot wants it to be hidden/not able to be found doesn't mean its not possible.
I know a person that was a traindriver that took his life getting run over by a train. He did it in a spot nobody wouldve seen it happen.
Also just because he made it public to be happy doesn't mean he is. Most suicidal people act happy to others
Suicidal ppl are so selfish, why would you kill so many ppl just cause you’re miserable and don’t value your life doesn’t mean other ppl don’t have something to live for
@@jlhshdue dont apply that to all suicidal people my guy, there are plenty of actively or previously suicidal people, that never did go through with it, because of exactly what you're saying, the sake of other people. this may have been suicide but its all as close to suicide as sucide bomber is to it. its more malicious than selfish in this case.
He may have an affinity with the Indian Ocean, wanting to be buried at sea. The figure 8 with a large plain may have just been a bucket list item. At this point he’s gone mad and hard to decipher his thoughts.
Hey Jackson, Charlie, and Isaiah! Love the show! You guys should definitely consider doing an episode on the 1959 Clutter family murders. A great source for the case is the book “In Cold Blood” by Truman Capote, where he writes from the perspective of the murderers. I was assigned this book for a high school English class and thought it was really interesting.
A few details on the case to pique your interest:
• The crime appeared to be a completely random act of extreme violence, which was originally intended to be a robbery
• It turns out the family kept no money in cash form so the robbery was almost completely fruitless.
• The personalities and minds of the murderers is very fascinating to look into. One is more narcissistic and cunning, while the other is more timid and follower-like. They play into each other in an interesting and dangerous way.
• The murderers’ great escape from the police was also very complex and showed a lot about their mentalities.
This is one of the most interesting true crime cases in American history (in my opinion), and there’s a lot of sources out there on the topic. There’s also a movie. I think it could make a great episode for y’all to cover! Again love the podcast and please keep it up! 😊🫶
To start off, I live in Perth, and let me tell you, this was one hell of a topic my stoner friends and I got into plenty of times. I remember a conversation that hits pretty deep (amongst the many ridiculous conspiracies of course) is that if the pilot was suicidal, and he did just outright crash the plane and cause obvious mass murder, this is what he would be known for, for the rest of history. Given that he did have a family, this could have been enough of a motive to try to make this as secretive as possible. As horrible as it sounds, a person in this mindset is capable of anything, but for sure is still very human, obviously... so the 7 further hours of flying could have been of contemplation. until the fuel ran out, giving the best chance of the atrocity becoming a mystery. Could explain the reasoning into the confusing series of events. Condolences to the families of the lost and hope that one day we will have the answers. Love what you guys do here and really enjoy the topics you discuss. Keep at it!
Charlie can you understand why serial killers do what they do? I hope not. But this is literally the same thing if it is indeed a suicide. He probably had a motive to make it look like an accident so having it run out of fuel makes sense
Might be something as simple as if it was proved that the pilot (or copilot) had deliberately crashed the plane his next of kin wouldn’t get pension/compensation.
Jackson I’ll be honest, you putting us in the shoes of something bizarre at the beginning of the episodes is probably the most iconic thing about these episodes. Please continue them. It’s not the mystery that makes it funny, it’s the situation you put the viewer in. Love the podcast anyways you guys rock! Can’t wait for the next one.
You know its a good topic when you get the UA-cam fact check above the description
Didnt rock up during the bigfoot episode which is how you know it's 100% factually true
It's not a fact check, it's just additional info

Charlie: “Yeah, sounds a bit too conspiratoria-“
Wendigoon: “I’M LEAVING”
I love how YT has "cracked down" on "misinformation" but still uses the context bars from Wikipedia.
Because Wikipedia is a misinformation tool that their side has captured.
It's not about spreading truth, it's about controlling a narrative.
what are they supposed to do then? not like they can hire factcheckers for every single vidoe that gets uploaded
Wikipedia is constantly fact-checked and has their sources listed. Schools just don’t want you to use it because they want you to search for multiple sources instead of just the one, so they lie about it, which is fucked up
@TheErikjsm Maybe not use a source that literally anyone can edit, as your source of "fact checking".
@@Space_Cakes94 ah so nothing is better then even bothering at all...
1:42 Jackson the fun isn't finding out whether there's a twist or not, it's finding out *how* we get to the twist that's hilarious. I'd love to see unnecessarily goofy Jackson twist intros make a comeback personally
Was hoping you guys would have Ashton Forbes on or at least reference some of his work. He is the "alien's abducted the plane guy". His theory is more along the lines of advanced secret technology, patented by Lockheed Martin, was used to teleport the plane. Not saying it's true but the videos are interesting and he repeatedly addresses the debunkers. The motive of teleporting the plane is also interesting as there were Freescale Semiconductor engineers on board - keep in mind heading to Beijing. He also addressed the lithium ion battery fires being extinguished by halon gas. Just check it out!
Edit: not to mention the fact that some of the passengers phones were still ringing when called. Doesn't make sense that they would ring when under water.
Phones still work under water
Guy's whole theory fell apart when the lore lodge video editor literally recreated one of the videos in just a few minutes on camera and matched up the video game effect exactly with Ashton's video and that's just a guy who edits videos. If those big vfx guys ashton was sperging out about felt so inclined they'd be able to recreate those videos pretty faithfully. It's just schizo babble.
Right. A little disappointed.

A potential explanation for why Zaharie Ahmad Shah may have tried so hard to hide his actions is because of cultural shame around "unaliving" in Islamic society. He might have wanted to keep his actions ambiguous for the sake of his legacy.
