I've noticed that Japanese rock and metal takes a completely different evolutionary path from their American and European counterparts. They tend to be far more experimental in their approach, whereas the others are more trying to either refine or add to a particular sound, which leads to a more gradual evolution of genres. Their approach isn't necessarily better, but when it works, it really works.
Nice to see a Sokoninaru reaction. The last band I saw live in March when they visited Europe. Enough brilliant madness to keep me going until we get concerts back. One of my favourite japanese bands along with Unlucky Morpheus, Wagakki Band, BAND-MAID, NIngen Isu.. I have a few guesses on how they may have created their songs; either the technical-ass song comes into creation first ('cause apparently that's what mathcore-type artists tend to be like), or they have a simpler song as a "guide" with the melodies written out, then proceed to prog-ify everything to hell later as they see fit in the studio. Maybe sokoninaru have already talked about their songwriting process, but naturally 99% their interviews and writings are in Japanese. It'd really be nice to know more about them in general lol.
I can see that. As far as their interviews go. There are some transcribed online that have some pretty cool info. That's where I was able to find the fun facts for this band in the description.
Sokoninaru has quickly become one of my favourite bands over the last couple of months and really hope to see more reactions to them soon! I would recommend Gou Ni Moyu next. Also you should definitely check out the drum play through version too though probably best to go with the original music video for the reaction. After watching some of their covers where Shiyu is going crazy with drumstick tricks or has a huge smile on his face I’ve gotten a little obsessed watching him play the drums. He’s a dual-wand wielding wizard having a blast and his joy is contagious. I have no idea why he’s technically still just a support drummer for the band, but they should definitely fix that 😂 The three of them together is just talent overload and I am here for it!
