I'm from Maryland and I don't mind sharing a good fishing spot. Use Google maps. If you check Kent island, right when you come off the bridge the first exit there are a few piers. One is on the right about 1-2 miles down, the other is a bit farther down the road you can't miss it just keep straight. And one thing this guy does not show is to make sure you don't take UNDER sized crabs! Know the rules of fishing and crabbing before you go.
Awesome! I sometimes use the way back machine to enjoy past adventures when I'm looking for ideas for new ones. Going to wait for the good local corn to come in down there, nothing like a steamer pot full of crabs and Eastern Shore local corn! That Carolina and Florida corn just doesn't cut it! We're getting ready to go dark for a few weeks. Got some adventures planned where we will find ourselves with no access to the net. Hopefully this will result in some great footage when we get back! Going to be nice disconnecting from the current nightmare for a bit.
I used to live in MoCo and we used to just use earthworms for spot, etc. Put a board down on an area near leaf cover on the ground and go harvest them in the morning or after a rain. I use grass shrimp which I catch for free too. White perch go crazy for them.
Great Filming job.Audio very clear and you present a lesson to the none crabbers who want to learn to go crabbing.GREAT WORK and not once did you bounce the camera around
+william petillo Well thanks! We try and keep things as steady as possible. It only takes a few moments to deploy a tripod, and we use it as much as possible. Glad you enjoyed our video!
@slowbowvideo I applaud your gentleman attitude. Mud crab and blue crab are different species of crab. Mud crab is much bigger than our blue crab. Thank for the video. I miss the crabbing.
Nice job dude. Hopefully you take on video taping as a career. Nice job and very controlled speaking stile. Not forgetting to mention the subject matter, you make it very relevant to your viewers to want to engage in what you are relating. Thanks and keep it up. My wife and I are enjoying the great outdoor more and more because of videos like yours.
ArtOfSailing You go that right. Either fishing, or simply off into the wood as often as mom and dad would let me go to the creek and swamp. Back in those days there wasn't a name for it, my kids call it herping now, but when were young, we used to just go out and catch snakes, frogs and salamanders when we were kids to.
Yep!, Creeks and swamps, Theres a wealth of skills come from growing up around the bay and earning knowledge by getting your feet and cloths covered in mud that a book could never teach. Your vids really do close that gap up alot. keep up the great work my friend.
@slowbowvideo My wife and I lived there for a few years. I went there almost every day during the summer months and picked the big boys off the pilons as they hung there. I would pick up 5 or 6 each trip down there. I worked on the island locating utilities so i would go to the pier every 2 - 3 hours during the day and would get 15 - 20 crabs on the days i would get there. I would also hit the narrows and see what was hanging around there. I got a really nice soft crab down there 1 day.
My sister and I caught crabs back in the mid 50's on an old sunken barge off Carroll Island Rd where we lived using a old piece of rope and chunks of eel did not take long to get a bushel :-)
I remember taking the kids when they were little down to Ocean City and crabbing in the bay off a bulkhead, and we filled a bushel in an hour or so. That was back before the crab populations crashed. Hard to do that now.
Well my sister was about 8 yrs old I was about 10 ,we spent a lot of time alone so just fished and crabbed ,Our little cabin was one of 3 it sat very close to the water right where Raven Power Crane Station on Carroll Island Rd is now located .
I do see your point, this is why the crabs we caught were all eaten as we picked them, and we had to buy the crab meat for our recipe. But don't discount the stuffed fish either! It is in fact really good, and a change of pace from straight crab. Bluegill, perch, especially flounder are great fish to stuff with crab.
@ALPHATHEAWESOME Not lately.Busy hunting deer and ducks right now. When we used to go for crabs in the fall,we would hit the mouths of rivers where they would flow into the bay through a tidal marsh.Crabs would be coming in to dig up in the mud for the winter, used to get some big ones that way.
The crabs caught at this pier last summer were all huge. I caught a lot of 6.5 - 7.5 inch crabs and at least one 8 incher. This year there are more small ones but they should be bigger and heavier this time of year. Saw some folks catch some nice ones here a few days ago.
We''ll thanks very much! Don't know that it will ever become a career, but it sure is a fun hobby, I really enjoy it. Good to know my videos encourage others to get out there and enjoy themselves. We'll be working on videos as time permits and should have several more adventures to post this summer.
I love bluefish. A lot of people don't eat them for some reason. I love the flavor as long as I bleed them out before placing in the cooler. In Delaware we call that size snapper blues.
Sometimes, yes, but I also mail order lots of stuff, like the bulk night-crawlers in Frugal Fishing I a lot cheaper that way. I also like to stop in and ask the clerk at a local bait and tackle what to use, and whats hitting in the area, and I'll buy enough for the trip there if I don't already have what I need
o ok. i went crabbing and fishing to the chesepeake, and if you have been to north beach, the fishin there is just awesome for summer bluefish. i see everyone catchin alot for their coolers, i tried one yesterday, they taste very good. the crabbing there in the morning wen waves are calmer is key. its only about 50 min away from my house which is in mo co. so u should definitly try DEALE which is a city filled with fishermen.
I know where this spot is I stumbled across this spot 2 summers ago. I wouldn't tell nobody where the spot is either because everybody and their mothers would be there. It's a nice chill spot with hardly nobody there but a few people every now and again. I only showed one person abd she dont remember the spot is so nice I'm not telling nobody either. It's like a get away with hardly no people.
@JFlatley5001 We`ll find it at bait and tackle stores near the water. Most of them carry it frozen, and we`ll just stop on the way out and pick some up,the summer heat thaws it out pretty fast.
Since we do use a lot of public areas, and many are already crowded at times, we don't like to specifically mention by name any particular area. To be sure these methods will work on any pier where crabs are found.
It's a little early for crabs yet. You could, but it would probably be very slow. Best time is July and August, with September and June running a close second
Doing what we do, a lot of it on areas open for use to the general public, we deal with a lot of crowded areas sometimes. So we don't like to give out the exact names of areas we use on the internet for fear of not being able to get a spot next time we go.Rest assured, public piers on The Chesapeake Bay are easy to find, and theses tactics will work on all of them!
It's not the time of the year, blue crabs will be light right after they shed. They are at their heaviest just before they shed. I think the blue crab shed according to the lunar phase, but I'm not sure if it's on the full or dark moon.
That was a fun video , learn a lot about ( Blue Crabs ) those suckers are speedy fast. Soy Sauce action was good too , really enjoying your catch : P Thanks for putting this vid together and sharing luv it.
i just came from blue crab fishing cook some but they seem not to have a lot of meat, its there a better time of year to catch them than july?any special month of the year
@ALPHATHEAWESOME Reds are few and far between (though not unheard of) In the chesapeake. Our big fish are the spring runs of Striped Bass, they go 40 and 50 lbs, average 40 inches during the spring trophy season.
what do u use for fishing bait, caught myself my first bluefish today using spot fillets and shrimp, caught some crab off of croaker fillets and bloodworms.
This was filmed on a pier in the mid bay area. We don't like to mention specific names sometimes, because the facility is public and gets very crowded sometimes. But these methods will work on just about any pier or dock during the summer when crabs are around.
Don't know about where your at, but here in Maryland you would probably need a dredge to catch crab, they all bury in the mud on the bottom and become inactive during the winters here.
cnn94001 Dude, that's creepy. I just looked up his channel, and it has no videos, but when you look at this thumbnail from that channel, and then do an internet search for images of Elliot Rodger, that's the same thumbnail from the guys facebook page OMG….But let me remind you, it wasn't just "the gun" the guy in California used, he stabbed several people, and ran some down with a BMW as well. We don't like to disclose the exact location of some of our favorite spots, they are often already crowded. A full list of public piers where crabbing and fishing is allowed can be found by searching the Md. Dept. of Natural Resources website, or giving them a call.
Honestly, I don't know what Michael had on when he caught that one. We do use squid a lot though, and live mud minnows. The baits you list work well also. One tip, those bloodworms are not necessary and very expensive. Good old fashion night crawlers work just as well in salt water for small fish like spot and the like.
Since we film many of our adventures at areas that are publicly accessible, and these are sometimes crowded, we don't like to mention specific facilities by name. Hope you understand. But this video was filmed mid bay, and these methods will work on any dock or pier where you have access.

Sure. Keep in mind my experience has been with crabs fresh out of the water, yours have probably been refrigerated and stunned a bit, but still, be careful.

Had to come back and re-watch one of the Classics. Can't wait for crabbing season to open more or less and you guys kick some arse.

Sounds good to me Mike. You & the Mrs. Have fun and be safe as always. Eat some good Eats.
that really brings me back when i was a kid crabbing with a chicken neck and string. it was a lot of fun and good eats

Hand lines for crabs is challenging and great fun, and yes, it did take until about noon.
Nice wholesome on this video I'm definitely a fan coming to you from Palm Bay Florida
Well thanks so much! You know, my son is down in Florida, and he says there are a lot of blue crabs and not many folks crab for them down there.
now this is living LARGE !!!! you are sooooo BLESSED !!!!!
Yes we are. It is nice that we can be in close proximity to the shores of the bay and slip down when we get some free time to fish and crab!
😊
Nice job dude. Hopefully you take on video taping as a career. Nice job and very controlled speaking stile. Yes it is a blast. Great way to get young kids out and interested in the outdoors as well.
Nice Video and a very nice Crabbing Trip i will travel home to NY soon for Crabbing Season .
great video, i would bet that you grew up alot like me, always ending up playing of fishing in some creek or even on the bay, lol. nice vid.

pretty awesome guys.. i will soon need to try this.. keep up the videoss
In Maryland. We don't post specifics about locations on the internet because many of these places are already very crowded.
@slowbowvideo I did not know you can make sushi from blue fish. I have to try it next summer! Thanks. :)
@JFlatley5001 We`ll find it at bait and tackle stores near the water. Most of them carry it frozen, and we`ll just stop on the way out and pick some up,the summer heat thaws it out pretty fast.
@slowbowvideo tru. hav u been out lately for crabs? if so how many did u catch and when. thanks
Love the view...love the blue crabs
Yeah, actually, it kind of is. But it's easier to net them with that than the metal one, they don't bounce out as easily.
looks like the pier at the end of route 8 - the first exit over the bay bridge on the eastern shore side?
@TheCrews28
Well thanks very much.I appreciate the kind words.I`m working hard to do the best we I can, hope to have more coming soon.
Since we do use a lot of public areas, and many are already crowded at times, we don't like to specifically mention by name any particular area. To be sure these methods will work on any pier where crabs are found.

Sharing The Outdoors hey do u sell crabs by the bushell
It's a little early for crabs yet. You could, but it would probably be very slow. Best time is July and August, with September and June running a close second
The twine we wrap attach the bait to? That's just cheap balled twine, you can get it at most tackle shops that sell fishing and crabbing supplies.
Doing what we do, a lot of it on areas open for use to the general public, we deal with a lot of crowded areas sometimes. now thats some good eats, love the on the spot fish and dine

I see you were at Romancoke pier, what time of year were you down there ? Looks like you made out fairly well on the crabs. What about 2 doz?
Great Video! You're a natural in front of the camera!
Well thanks!
i love crabs and thankyou for the edvice where are you crabbing
Thanks! Won't be long until summer rolls around again.
Nice video !! Thanks for the effort..

I didn't know that. I just remember getting dungeness claws served alone someplace.

Like material that you use
how good is fishing/crabbing this time of the year? since we live in the same area, you probably know that it hasnt been a very hot spring.
Don't know about where your at, but here in Maryland you would probably need a dredge to catch crab, they all bury in the mud on the bottom and become inactive during the winters here.
9:38 is that person on the left alive?
I believe everyone was still breathing while we filmed this 8^)
isn't this Elliot guy the person who shot and killed a bunch of people in CA???

The best trap for catching blue claw crabs off a dock is the FloorDoorCrabTrap. Watch that video!

I live right down the street from that pier
It's a great place. We really should try and get down there again sometime, haven't been down for a few seasons.
yea i live in maryland and i call it mustard
Nice one guys.
That's sold locally frozen for bait in tackle shops.
Guaranteed to please! I will use this when I'm on vacation at the Outer Banks! Great Vid!
i love blue crab with a passion
That's in Romancoke Pier.

The fish on the dock? No, that was a breakfast of bluefish sushi, about 10 minutes after he pulled it out of the bay.
What pier was this? Where can I find it?
can u make suchi with flounder or red drum?
great vid man. the only blue crabs i can get here in galveston,tx are female. i think that the last male i caught was 2 yrs ago
Not sure you mean the picture plant? If so,you were right, it eventually browned out and died.
Could you share the exact location. I am going there this weekend and I would like to catch some blue crabs. Thanks
+Vanessa Ishak Very cool
@7theflyingdutchman
Glad you enjoyed it.
You don't want to find out. A blue crab will mess you up. No,they wont take your finger off, but their claws are designed to tear, not cut, they can shred you pretty well.Been nipped by a few here and there, not clamped. Cut's bound to get infected too, all the bacteria from the dead stuff they eat. Lobster, well, that might crush your finger very badly.Oh, and neither will let go if they get a good hold on you, you have to kill the thing to get it off, or put it in water, it might let go then.
Where are you at in Maryland catching them crabs and fish
Troy Garner We fish all over the State. This video was filmed on the Chesapeake Bay
and where is this place because I want to come
@jeep1999mp
Yes,it is a blast.I hope to film so deer hunting this fall, have a few venison recipies I`ll share with the bounty.
IS IT A PAIN TO GET A CRAB OUT OF THE GREEN NET
really love the plant hanging!!!! needs more rain water!!!!!
isnt that in cris field maryland
Your quite welcome for the video. We hope to continue producing videos for a long time to come 8^)
@insanelygr8hair
Oh, I thought you meant where was a person. We were down around the Bay Bridge, Kent Island area.
I had a bluefish...once. I don't even eat them cooked anymore myself. But my son likes sushi and stronger oily fish for some reason.
One question,,,,,,how much weed did you toke when making this vid? by the way, we get blue crabs here in texas. i used to live in chesapeake and the old bay seasoning is a must with crabs and shrimp!
