I find it incredible that people can tell the different between subtle flavors. I have no sense of smell so it does impact some of my taste and the way you describe smells and tastes is incredible.

Fun fact, artificial banana flavor is actually the flavor of the first commercially cultivated bananas called a Gros Michel banana! This variety of banana actually became nearly extinct in the 1950s due to a fungus outbreak on all of the major farms they came from, and are now considered very rare.

    • @serietta4394

Fun fact, artificial banana flavour doesnt actually taste like banana even in the slightest. It is as far removed from banana taste as apple pie is removed from bacon'n'cheese hamburgers.

Mozart Kugeln are definitely a treat from my childhood, as my mom remarried a man from Germany and we took a few trips there by the time I was 10. What's nice is that even though they're no longer together, there's a great Christkindlmarket in Chicago, where I'm from, where you can get lots of German and European candies that take me back to when I was in Europe.

Did you know that every stencil for the gummybears ist handcarved? Almost every bear you eat looks a bit different. And the dark green ones are the best, they taste of woodruff ( or master of the woods or in german Waldmeister). Its a very popular taste here in Germany for gummy, jelly and mixed with beer ("Berliner Weisse") or with wine (may wine). Its a little plant (Galium odoratum) which grows in the forest hence the name.

I've had the Mozart candies before! c: I went to Germany, Austria, and Switzerland back in March and where I had them they were in a refrigerated vending machine! I've seen them room temperature though too so I guess it's just another way to have them. They were everywhere though o: They had delivery trucks with them on there too.. I never knew that they were so popular! They were one of my favorite sweets from my trip though for sure!

Mozart Kugeln are simply the beeeest! You have to try the "original" ones once, from Konditorei Fürst in Salzburg. They are handmade and come in silver & blue wrapping. There's pistachio marzipan instead of almond marzipan in them. My personal favourites 😍

Oh my gosh! My friend and I went to watch the Houston Symphony last year, and she randomly bought some Mozart chocolate as a "thank you for the tickets" gift. She thought it was just plain chocolate with Mozart on the foil. We both tried some and freaked out because it definitely did not taste like plain milk chocolate. Haha! We couldn't decide whether it tasted delicious or like it had been sitting in the gift shop for decades because we had no idea what we were eating. Nice to finally know that it was almond paste and marzipan, not congealed liquor and crusty caramel. Lol

    • @WantedVisual

+emmymadeinjapan Sweet Woodruff aka. Waldmeister. It's a plant that's slightly toxic when eaten by children or in large quantities, but it's traditionally put into drinks and jellies, so.... Yeah. Eventually, the legislation around using the real thing got so complicated, most companies started using fake woodruff flavoring.
To me, who didn't grow up eating it, tastes very similar to raspberry without the sharp tanginess.

Fun Fact: Artificial Banana tastes more like real banana, than the fruit you buy at the store.
The 'Gros Michel' was the common banana until the 1940s when it was wiped out by an infection, due to all Plants having been clones of the same tree. The new Strain is 'Cavendish', which is currently threatened with the same fate. Our grandchildren might not know a banana as we know it today.
