You were pronouncing ASDA right, no-one calls it A S D A, at least not here in England
Yep, literally EVERYONE pronounces it "AzzDar", not the initials.
Agreed, Asda as a word, no the letters.
lol yea I found it odd whoever said it's pronounced "A.S.D.A" i mean come on what if you're having a convo and say "hey wanna go pick up some fruit in A.S.D.A?" "sure we can go to A.S.D.A" XD
No one here in wales call it A S D A its just asda, and emmy its part of Walmart
Yep, its a word Asda, no one ever says A S D A.. weird, that someone told you that.
Hi Emmy I'm so glad that you liked my package and enjoyed the food I sent 😀 the video was great and well worth the wait! Made my day watching and your Welsh speaking sounded brilliant 😝 hehe if your ever in Wales then you will have a huge 'croeso!' (Which means welcome) 😊 xxx
THANKS so much Daisy phillips I had a blast and my baby loves shaking the toot pop. lol
Haha glad the little guy liked it also the marmite cashews are my favourite 😊
I'm from wales too when she said asda I laughed lol x
I know whoever told her that asda is pronounced a.s.d.a must have been pulling her leg! Lol xxx
Hi, I'm from Wales also!! So glad that Emmy likes the Welsh food you sent to her, as it's not often you see people try Welsh foods in 'Foods from around the world' videos!! The Welsh language is quite hard to learn +emmymadeinjapan, if you haven't learnt it from a young age, but I think you did an amazing job of it!! Da iawn (well done)!! :D
Who pronounces ASDA a-s-d-a?! Even the television adverts for Asda say asda, they don't pronounce it as an acronym - and I worked there. Feel free to call it asda, as a British citizen I've never heard it any other way XD
HAHA! Oh Emmy. You got it right the first time, babe, it is MOST DEFINITELY, NATIONALLY REKNOWNED as "Az-Dah". Whoever told you you were wrong must not be British and, if they are, they need a check up. As...DUH!
Haha yeah.. I guess it's a safe route to pronounce it the same way as the company itself does in the asda advertisements (you can find them on youtube)
Emmy, ASDA is pronounced ASDA and certainly isn't an acronym!
Asda is an abbreviation of Asquith and Dairies, often capitalised. Although there is some controversy about whether the name was "Associated" and "Dairies" which were merged as opposed to Asquith.
I know! Who was telling her otherwise! It is only ever pronounced as one word, ASDA!
Glos Ox I guess it might be an acronym, but I've only ever pronounced it as one word, ASDA and i've never met someone who doesnt say it that way. My sister won a competition many years ago to design a staff badge and help open our local asda, and all of the managers and ceos called it ASDA too. Definitely only one word.
Effie Mills That is no longer the case. These days the company name is Asda and is no longer an acronym. Wikipedia isn't always accurate.
Glos Ox Came here to ask who the bloody hell calls it A S D A?? Everyone calls it Asda, pronounced "az-da"!
Interesting story about lamb and mint... It was during the reign of Elizabeth I (1558-1603) that the English wool industry fell into decline, partly due to a greater consumption of lamb and mutton as food. In order to arrest this situation, the Queen decreed that Lamb must only be consumed with bitter herbs (to put people off). It was not long however, that people discovered that mint (classed a bitter herb) actually goes quite well. 400 years later, it has become a British tradition.
Ozzpot Ah, I see. Thanks for the history lesson. :)
Heh heh what clever people.
I honestly love these videos. I sit down and relax with a cup of tea and watch you every other afternoon.
Lots of Welsh people left comments on my brack video saying it was like that cake! Great video! :)
I have literally never heard anyone call Asda, A.S.D.A. Haha
ASDA is an acronym but you pronounce it as a word not each individual letter :)
Dragons and Castles Which- fun fact- is actually not called an acronym, but an initialism, I believe.
Kimberly Adams I think that's when you pronounce each letter idk that's what google said :3
Dragons and Castles
Sorry, I had misread your comment. XP
Kimberly Adams That's okay :D
In her emmyeats U.K. Part 5 she pronounces Asda as "A.S.D.A" and there are lots of comments correcting her. Maybe she just misremembered which was right :)
I can't be the only one that gets so excited when emmy uploads a video eating foods from the place you live in!
Who else here is a Welsh speaker??
Lydia Herondale fi!
Fi!
Fi!
I don't know who told you that you were wrong when you said Asda as one word because that's how you say it, it's definitely not pronounced a s d a :P I'm thinking of getting stuff to send you because I'm from Scotland and we have tonnes of traditional stuff :)
I still never know how you have the ability to stop eating after just one. I wouldn't be able to stop with so many snacks around me haha
Maltesers are my favourite , you should try their hot chocolate its AMAZING 3
I am so amazed how you know almost everything you have eaten and say the episode and country it was in :D ! Love your every video !
Hope you will continue doing this for a long time !
ps: sorry for bad english :)
Consonants. Welsh has a lot of consonants.
Lamb and mint jelly are a classic pairing.
Diolch you say dee-oll-ch like you are bringing up phlegm.
haha! Yup, chhhhhh like you are hocking up a hair ball. Welsh language rocks lol xx
I live in the UK and I live close to Asda, and we have always pronounced it asda and not A.S.D.A because that doesn't make much sense XD and it is just a store :)
Hahaha. That was fun! Asda is pronounced as one word, 2 syllables AS DA (or dah/duh based on our accent lol)... so it's not a s d a. Understand the confusion :) They are owned by Walmart!
And yes! Growing up we had many neighbourhood "corner" shops that would sell some essential groceries (milk, bread etc) as well as pick'n'mix and ice lollies and regular old bagged sweets too! Oh... and the daily news paper of course! They still exist but my childhood doesn't :(
Well, I was going to comment about how you were pronouncing Asda right from the start, but I see that others have already. So I'll just say hi! My dinner's not ready yet and that cake is making me really hungry.
I love how you always have an open mind when trying things! You give everything a shot!
Marmite cashews ! 😱😋 I want to try those oh my gosh
What pleb told you ASDA is pronounced as letters? It is now widely accepted as ASDA and in their ads they pronounce it as one word. Great video anyway!
like others have pointed out, you pronounced ASDA right the first time :D i've never heard anyone say each letter separately. ASDA is basically UK's walmart and they sell just about everything under the sun!
i miss maltesers. my favourite way of eating them was to suck off all the chocolate first and then eat the centres last. i know that's a bit weird >__
*****
glad i'm not the only one then xD
***** Me too!!
ReiKoko I nibble all the chocolate off first then eat the middle lol
Love lamb and mint. Wasn't gonna go to Wales, but this changes everything.
I Cr 13:8a, Love never fails !
In the English part of the UK we say it like you Asda not individual letters, I've never, ever heard that before. Lol if someone asked me where the A. S. D. A was I'd look blank for a minute I'm sure lol. I love mint sauce and jelly on peas and potatoes, I'm allergic to lamb so I can't comment on that. People go crazy for maltezers, I've never understood it.
EMMY PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DO A VIDEO TASTING OF Tamago Kake Gohan. THE RAW EGG AND RICE JAPANESE DISH. YOUR VIEWERS WOULD LOVE IT
Sweden has almost the exact same mushroom candies (don't know if they still have them though)! Although they're pink and white, and not bubblegum flavoured! They were my favourite growing up C:
We do have the pink & white ones, too ! They have been around 36+ years ! They only started doing that bubble gum flavour, in the last few years !
Really? I might have to get my mamma to get some. She just went back yesterday :D
Thanks!
Everyone says the word not the acronym - dunno who told you that? The name came from Asquith Dairies or Associated Dairies, depending on who you believe. I've been told it is the second :) Thanks for the vids, Emmy :)
Worcester sauce flavour crisps the daddy of all crisps
You should try the pork scratchings that aren't puffed, they're my favourite ones! It's just the skin and fat, as gross at that sounds 🙈 they are soooo delicious! I live on a tiny island called Jersey in the UK, I need to send you some black butter to try!
Hi Emmy!! I dont know why i see your vídeos before go to sleep! Im Hungry right now in The middle of The night jaja. I Love Everything about teeths and toothbrushes etc haha Im a dentist Im obsess..i want to taste That gummies. Cheers from Mexicali, México. :)
I'm so glad you finally got to try Jam Tea Cakes! They are my favourite. :-)
Emmy you are such a beautiful person! Absolutely love watching your videos. Such a genuine, kind person. 😃
Emmy someone has been pulling your leg, ASDA is pronounced as Azda not an acronym. ASDA is one of our biggest supermarket chains in the UK.
The fresh mint sauce eaten with lamb is a mixture of chopped mint, malt vinegar and sugar. It's a "liquid with bits in" rather than a "jelly" as such. You can adjust the sweet/sour balance by varying the sugar content to taste. You can buy it ready made as well of course.
My mother used to serve something called "fresh pickle" with cold meats, particularly lamb, which was basically onion rings soaked in malt vinegar, sugar and spices. She'd make it a few hours before the meal, then leave it covered in the fridge until it was wanted.
Hey Emmy I love your videos 😄 however it is ASDA and not A.S.D.A...who ever told you this is lying hahahahaha 😂 anyways looking forward to seeing more of your videos 😊 cya soon
I have Welsh family but consider myself a Londoner and a Welsh word we all use is cwtch (pronounced kutch like butch) it means a warm cuddle eg. "Can I get a cwtch with your baby?"
Hey Emmy, the pronounciation for diolch is "dee-o-lch" where the "lch" is a kind of weird breathy sound made at the back of your throat. Welsh is really hard to pronounce!
Damn it now I'm craving lamb+mint chips. Good thing we're doing groceries later
Hmmm ... that's not a real bara brith! Bara brith should be very very similar to barn brack, dark and made with tea, a lot more solid and less crumbly than that cake. My Mum is Welsh and makes bara brith and that's definitely not it.
You were correct the first time, its pronounced ASDA, noone Calls it A-S-D-A
(>^-^)>
Am I the only one who stayed to the very end ???? Can't stop laughing 😂😂😂😂
Under 300 club! Emmy, I very recently started watching your videos, and I LOVE YOU! You are so educated, respectful, and kind! You deserve an EMMY award 😉 See what I did there? No? Okay...
Can i send you som thing from Denmark. So you Can make Emmy eats denmark #4 i Think
the bara brith im used to is dark all the way through, heavier than the light fruit cake. you get it thinly sliced and buttered in tearooms and its gorgeous :-)
Emmy you are so cute xD I love how you make these videos are informative yet really fun at the same time.
I've never known anyone to say A.S.D.A like an acronym... It's definitely Asda, one word like you were saying it before. Its the biggest British supermarket, owned by Walmart.
And if anyone knows how to pronounce it, it's me; until three months ago, I worked there!
I'm not British but I'm pretty sure ASDA is pronounced AS-DA :)
Tell me this. . How are you not fat from eating all the junk food? ? And what do you do to the rest?? Lol
is is ASDA (azz-da) as you were pronouncing it. not A.s.d.a, whoever told you that was wrong or playing with you.
Yer Asda is a super market in the uk and is like tesco sainsburys ect you just say it how it is not spelling it out but it is an easy mistake to make so it is quite alright just so u know for next time xxx
Diolch is pronounced di-och
Oh interesting. When I was in the UK, ASDA was pronounced as, well "asda." The TV commercials say it as a word.
I'm wish u would speak up, I always have it full last and can barely hear your soft voice !😂❤❤❤
No one that i know of says A.S.D.A everyone calls it asda
Oh I do love the complexity of my home language hahah
You tried really hard with the Welsh phrases! Da iawn!
How ironic toothbrushes and teeth made from candy lol
I don't know who told you Asda was an acronym but it's just known as asda and not A.S.D.A
Oh we get bonbons! The french club sells them at my school (here in America) as a fundraiser. I like the strawberry and the green apple ones ^^
ASDA isn't an acronym, or at least I say ASDA as a word :)
You've probably been told already, but you were right first time it's pronounced ASDA. Not A.s.d.a (meaning ASsociated DAiries) a crap cheap for a reason (Horsemeat lasagna anyone) uk supermarket taken over by Walmart.
Emmy I'm so excited and waiting for you to eat Hong Kong :) I understand that you have a lot of packages and it may take some time but make sure the goods don't expire xx
lots of love from +852
Emmy you pronounce ASDA as 1 word like you did in the video........i don't know who was telling you that but thats a load of BULL
I used to be in a relationship with an English woman, and spent quite a lot of time in England. No English person I've ever spoken to ever said "A-S-D-A", they all pronounce it as a word "asda". Even the adverts on the telly pronounce it as a word, so forget those people who say you should pronounce it as an abreviation, nobody does.
Asda is not an acronym, I should know, I work there
Those pork rinds, we have it here in Quebec and we call it "Oreilles de Christ" which translate by "Christ's ears". I don't where that name comes from!!
If I were a bag of chips I would be blue French kettle chips with red pepper and gold foil. ( you can buy this in Germany - absolutely crazy fun)
ive lived in england all my life im 28 btw. and never in my life have i ever heard anyone call asda, a.s.d.a no one has ever said the letters out emmy so whoever is telling you to say each letter is WRONG you were saying it right as asda just say it as it looks :) a.s.d.a lol made me chuckle even people who work there dont say it like that.
Asda is pronounced asda, not A S D A, it's a supermarket chain in the uk, as is Tesco, morrisons, sainsburys, the higher end ones are Marks & spencer and Waitrose :)
Righty-tighty, lefty-loosey.
If I were potato chips, I would be beer battered fish with tartar sauce. 😂
The way you pronounced "ASDA" the first time was correct.
Everytime you said "eat Wales" and "eating Wales", I kept picturing whales 😉😄
Great videos. You are meant to suck a bonbon before chewing, your jaws must be super strong! I am from Wales and a little coffee shop on the beach sells homemade Welsh cakes and Bara brith cake. The lady adds a little marmalade into the mix before baking. Unique taste!
I don't no who said you were pronouncing Asda wrong, as long as Ive been alive we've always called it Asda...not a.s.d.a
I sent you some Mongolian treats about 2 weeks ago and I'm wondering if you have received them yet
We always call it ASDA, not A S D A. You pronounced it correctly. It is a subsidiary of Walmart. I love strawberry bon bons and teacakes.
9:10 Someone please make a video of every time she drops something or fumbles the snack she's holding. Every time she does that, a cartoony sound plays and it's funny :P
Love the nail polish, Emmy! It seems like it gets brighter and more daring every video!
We call pork scatchings, 'hog lumps' around here.. Still chuckling everytime you say A S D A. Its Azda
Tehee, you said it again
If I were a potato chip, I'd probably be Lime & Wasabi. Green with a bit of a kick....
Thanks, Emmy, for letting us see what different Cultures eat, and encouraging us to try new foods & flavors. My Motto: Celebrate Diversity!!!
1) those candies are super adorable!!
2) I agree with you 100% on the pork curls... So much better than the American style pork rind in my humble opinion :) gotta love that crunch!!
3) my potato chip flavor would be either poutine or Filipino-style chicken adobo!! :D
Great post as always Emmy! You just make me smile...
It is widely known that they used the welsh language as elven language in the lord of the rings.
Asda used to be an acronym but hasn't been for many years. The company name is Asda Stores Limited, a subsidiary of Wal-Mart.
ASDA is pronounced as-da, not as an acronym... and its actually a grocery store chain in the UK, which is owned by Walmart
Hey Emmy! Loooove your vids! Totally addicted! Although Asda is an abbreviation of Asquith and Dairies, the brand is marketed as ASDA and not A S D A so you were right to start with! It's actually owned by by Walmart!!!! Keep up the great vids. Stay well. M xx
If I were a chip I'd be one of the very Aussie flavours we've had over the years thanks to Smith's Chips, Vegemite, Meat Pie with Tomato Sauce, Gravy, or one that was a " What's your flavour" competition entry, Late Night Lamb Kebab! Seeing how these aren't available anymore, my usual flavour is Salt and Vinegar :) We also have Teeth lollies, but they are softer and taste like Spearmint!
oh fluffy sheep are wonderful oh fluffy sheep are wonderful!! there white welsh and fluffy! oh fluffy sheep are wonderful!! no idea why I started singing that!
Emmy, Penguin was first introduced in 1932 and Tim Tams, named after a horse, did not enter the market until 1964. Most of the products you ate were not actually Welsh which was a pity. Marmite and Bovril were both bought out by Best foods who later amalgamated with Unilever but Unilever bought both of them when they separated from Best Foods. Unfortunately, Best Foods had changed the formula and now many of the older generation myself included, will not eat it because of the difference.
`nuf sed. plamuk aka travellingchef.
The traditional pick'n'mix nearly died out in the UK, but there's a company (maybe more than one) supplying them as a franchise now, so all these little "Granny's Ye Olde Sweet Shoppe" places have sprung up. Kinda fake in a way, but the sweets are pretty authentic, at least as far as I can remember! Of course that made the supermarkets jump on the bandwagon, so several of them have reintroduced pick'n'mix counters as well.
Emmy, ignore whoever told you that it’s pronounced A S D A... it is ASDA as you said. Some British illiterates call it ASDAS... 🙈 You should do Mukbangs of yourself cooking/preparing Welsh food and give us your take on them.
omg every comment is like "IT'S ASDA ASDFASDFJKAFDLJA!!!" Read the comments people! You don't have to comment the same thing over and over!
When I lived there everybody just pronounced ASDA just like it's spelled. EVERBODY - including the ASDA employees.
What?! Noooo! it's not A-S-D-A, it's Asda. You were pronouncing it right the first time. Search for 'asda price commercial' in the search bar! :-)
Love your videos! You're awesome!!
Since you like Cashews, have you tried the CASHEW MILK? Silk brand recently came out with a new product of original cashew milk, and it taste amazing! You should try it on your Thirsty video! :d
When she said she'd been told it was pronounced A-S-D-A, I was worried because I thought I'd been pronouncing it wrong my whole life! But thankfully I haven't; I thought I was the only one who pronounced it as as-da ^_^
I'm British and your pronunciation of asda is perfect its a supermarket chain. Your absolutely gorgeous, but how come you look so healthy, no weight problem, and they are your own teeth after all these sweets. My wife is Filipino they make something called Chicharon baboy which is much better than pork scratchings, they remind me of the burnt bits stuck to the side of the oven and you throw away. Also Marmite isnt a food product its a punishment for naughty young children, give them Marmite sandwiches if bad (Pure Marmite is a love or hate product in Britain)
