- Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory skin disorder that affects about 2-3% of the population. It is triggered by the immune system, and new insights into the immune processes have thrown up a number of exciting drug targets. This Nature Reviews Drug Discovery animation explores how the immune system goes awry in psoriasis and illustrates how agents that target the cytokine interleukin 17, or other players in the same pathway, are being developed into novel therapies for psoriasis.
I was diagnosed with PSA 16 years ago and have tried just about every biologic drug out there. They usually start working but then after a while become less and less effective. I have been on Cosentyx which is an IL-17a blocker for a few years now. I noticed that it worked well but never quite lasted the full 4 weeks between injections. My rheumatologist put me on a 2 injections a month regimen but said I could take one every 2 weeks and that seems to be what works best for me. So far so good. It is pretty interesting to see how the stuff actually works. I assume the inflammation causes the same problems in the joints that they do in the skin.
When I was between jobs and thus between insurances I couldn’t take anything but ibuprofen because the costs were ridiculously high. My joints got so swollen and sore and my TMJ froze up as well as my neck. It was horrendous. I’m very thankful that my employer has amazing insurance coverage but unfortunately not everyone does. It really sucks that here in the US you have to chose to get meds that help you move and function or pay rent and buy food for your family. No joke… each shot is at least $1k. I appreciate the research and development but there needs to be better accessibility to people that have crappy insurance.

Cosentyx is covered by public medical insurance in China now, one injection is about 1200RMB, and the public medical insurance covers about 900RMB.
I to suffer from psoriasis. I was put on Ilumyia shots every three months. I was totally cleared in two weeks after the first injection. As you said the cost is very expensive, fifteen thousand dollars for one injection. If I didn't have very good insurance, no way could I afford treatments. I suffered for years before finally treatments that actually work was created. Side effects are scary, I did have to come off my med because of a severe kidney infection. I do believe all biologic meds lowers your immunity. I've seen a lot advertised an that's been the main side effect.

3. Don't eat eggs and dairy, you can slowly incorporating the eggs after you healed your psoriasis, but make sure that the chicken has a natural diet and is outside (chickens naturally eat little insects, they don't eat wheat). The same is for dairy, the cow(goats are best but cow is ok) needs to be grass fed and the dairy has to be raw
4. SUGAR, almost forgot it, this is the worst with the processed food, sugar is highly inflammatory and you will see this on your skin
5. Eat grass fed beef(no pork bc it's toxic), the best thing to do is go to a local farmer who sells grass-fed meat, such as lamb and beef.
6. Don't eat too much fruit, almost all the fruit is gmo, the fruit from today is not the same as our ancestors ate, sure it has vitamins and minerals and it's good to eat them but it should me like a snack. just eat them when you're hungry but do not want to cook something
7. Eat veggies, however also almost all the veggies are gmo, the do not have a lot of sugar like fruit.
8. Go to the doc and ask for the best vitamine d and zinc, I do not know where you live and how much it costs for you, but I was fortunate enough that I live in the Netherlands and it was free for me, but it's not really really necessary, it just speeds up the healing
9. Food combining: My psoriasis didn't heal because of this in the beginning. I just ate whenever I wanted, but this is very important. When you wake up, wait 2 hours before you consume anything ( you can drink water if you really need something). After the 2 hours eat some fruit/nuts/veggies (you can do them together if you want). Then wait 2 hours again before you consume anything. At dinner don't combine meat/fish with fruit, you can do some veggies with it if you want. After dinner again wait 2 hours till you consume anything again. Search on the internet on foodcombining and it will be clearer for you
10. Don't consume cafeine, you can drink tea with herbs in it, but look good because in almost all the tea there is sugar.
11. Fatty fish is very good against psoriasis, but it's only good if you eat wild caught. Wild caught salmon is very good, also sardines are good. But almost all the big fishes like tuna and swordfish are very bad for psoriasis, because of the high mercury in it. On the internet you can find a lot of fish with low mercury
If you are going to follow this, I know it will be very hard. I was 14 when I was diagnosed wit psoriasis but on my 16th I didn't want to take those drugs and did some research, I'm now 17 and i completely healed my psoriasis. Sometimes you will crave for processed foods, I even still do that but just hold on and eat some fruit or nuts if you really can't anymore, now I'm going to stop writing (hahaha) because this took me a serious 30 minutes. I believe it is a gut biome issue. I noticed when I went on a keto diet and had apple cider vinegar every day I never scratched at all. All of my broken skin healed up. I was so impressed I started telling everyone but I know. Most people like to take a pill to solve their issues, they don't want to do the hard work. Since not being strict with my diet it is back to normal. My ONLY problem is, is whether I can give up the carbs that I like, ie red wine, lollies, chocolate, and cigarettes that I weigh up as more of an effort than putting up with the itching and the sores.

@@slams777 I took a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar and a squeeze of lemon in a tall glass of sofa water use a straw so the acid doesn’t attack your teeth or wash your mouth directly. It not only improves your insulin levels it flattens your tummy as well I used to put half a teaspoon of ground cinnamon to improve the taste but so good for you

I just know I started on cod liver oil, prior to that my Psoriasis got me out of the Army, at one point I was hospitalised, I had it on my hands, knees and elbows. (At this stage it was not known to be an Immune system problem. I thought it was just Genetic). Over the years I looked at vitamins and minerals that are good for the immune system and started Vitamin C and Zinc. Give it a go Veronica it may help you.

Is it the marker for severity of PSORIASIS?
I heard recent news that IL-17 pathway is involved in obesity too. Apparently in mice obesity was cured by using a treatment that affected the IL-17 pathway. If this is true could biologicals be developed to treat obesity? I have obesity and psoriasis and they both started in the same year in early adulthood. I wonder if they are linked.

I only have psoriasis on my scalp, and it only happens when I get stressed. yesterday, I got extremely stressed and anxious, and within about four hours of this happening, I had so many huge plaques growing on my scalp, it looked like there were half a pound of broken eggshells all over my scalp (they were in big, solid, white pieces like eggshells, too), and it was so itchy. I had to go to the bathroom and scratch it all out. after I got it all out and calmed down, it was absolutely fine and not itchy at all, and with no more plaques. then, I got a bit stressed this morning, though not nearly as much, and I just had a minor "attack" of psoriasis. I just scratched out the last of it a minute ago though, and I'm fine now, especially since I calmed down.. what I think is that, when I'm stressed, my body is preparing for a fight, so it starts producing more skin cells to heal me from any injuries I might get. I've heard of this happening to the blood of some people as well, where an excess of platelets are formed to make the blood more likely to coagulate to heal wounds. IDK why this only happens on my scalp though, although I also experience minor effects in my facial hair.. it's so bizarre, but it almost never bothers me too much, except for yesterday when my stress levels were incredibly high..

Buy coal tar at drug store. Ask pharmacist to order it if they need to, no prescription needed. Wet scalp pour onto hair, add a little shampoo,lather it up. Put shower cap over head , leave on overnight. Shower next morning rinsing out hair, then using shampoo only to wash hair. Then use daily on hair as you shower. You can buy t gel, but the coal tar isn't strong enough. Once it goes away, the tar keeps it from coming back. It really works. Works on skin to,but you have to get in sun. But only for few minutes, cause coal tar that has been on the skin, makes you sunburn quickly.

Stopped gluten once I found out all auto immune diseases are caused by leaky gut due to gluten allergies. After 3 months my psoriasis was gone. Over a year later I’m still gluten and psoriasis free.
Did it take you weeks to see the slight improvements? I try new diets but give up 2 weeks in as i feel it’s getting even bad.
Also, what about dairy?

Hi, even I'm a psoriasis fighter 😊. The best thing to do is to continue whatever you were doing before the psoriasis got cured, continue with the same process. Stop sugar chocolate biscuits meat eggs dairy products completely for one year.. then slowly start including one by one. Within one month of stopping all of the above im almost completely cured. And i have decided to continue to be the same forever, going to get into fitness completely. And say goodbye to this dreaded disease and feel life again.

Why does Psoriasis affect just certain areas.....such as PalmaPlantar Pustulosis....Most ppl that I know that has PPP all say it starts on the left arch/sole and the right thumb base and then spreads from there. What causes it to be confined in the same areas for most people? Curious to know!

Clean diet is the only way to beat Psoriasis and other such chronic conditions. What modern medicine refuses to acknowledge is that it's all those chemicals/food additives/environmental toxins that our intelligent bodies are trying to "push out" to save themselves. Drugs may suppress the immune system from this elimination process; but it's really stupid thing to do!
Just clean up your diet and let all the toxins out (it took my body almost 8 years to get rid of the Lithium toxicity) and you will forever be thankful. I had patches on my scalp, forehead, armpits, upper arms, torso, knees and shins. One by one, everything cleared away after I gave up all the processed/packaged junk. I now refuse to eat anything that is factory-made.
King James III No, I didn't. However, I am extremely alert when I'm eating and avoid over-eating. What I figured out is that food scientists are forced to add excito-toxins and endocrine disrupter chemicals to the packaged foods so that our thyroid/metabolism function is compromised. Addictions are formed that way. I used to be moderately addicted to Pringles, Mountain Dew, Coke, Cheetos, Pizza Hut pizza and a few others. I don't touch them anymore. In today's world it is a pain in the ass to eat clean foods, but good health is my main priority. So I am able to resist the temptations.

@@revbikerbigd8664 Please do not follow any diet other than whole grain and plant based diet.(cut out nightshade veggies) You should feel relief within a month or two. After it goes away completely (maybe within 4-6 months) start incorporating one nightshade vegetable at a time for a month. See if it comes back. If it does, that's your trigger food.
Repeat the same for every item u had cut back from your diet in the last 6 months. I know it's hard, but I am following this. I am at the first 2 month stage and my Psoriasis is reduced substantially :)
Edit: Add exercise in your daily routine, Vitamin B12- a must addition as it's not available from Plants (ask your Physician the dosage)
