He’s been helping some with the Hawaiian swimming LSC doing some clinics and appearances, He’s also been helping with the Junior lifeguards scene. I’ve met him at a couple club meets here and he went to junior pan pacs. He seems happy and very driven in all he’s doing. Wonderful human being and class act.

Several years ago, I remember reading about how Phelp’s 400 IM long course world record was the greatest men’s record in swimming. Well, Marchand has now smashed it by over a second, yet the Olympic field in Paris couldn’t come within 2 seconds of Piersol’s 1:51.9. I bet his time stays in the books until at least 2032.

Phelps' 400IM World Record was truly amazing but Piersol's 200 Back record is insane!

@@JamieK348 Phelps's former 100 fly and 400 IM WRs were also done in a full body suit from Speedo. It wasn't quite as advantageous as the Arena X-Glide, but it was also banned from competition in 2010.

Yeah this podcast ain't it... I was really excited to listen to this, but it was hard to listen through. Although he means well, he doesn't finish any of his sentences and he just talked in circles. There was a lot of fluff but very little substance in his profoundness. It almost seemed like this was the first interview he's ever done and certainly comes off as if he's been off grid for the past several years. A lot of awkward silences, uhhhhs, long pauses, not getting to the point and half the time I couldn't remember what the question was. Not by any means was this on Katie or Missy, but I got very little out of this one.

      Oh, man....
Exactly my thoughts. He's so worried about finding the right words to describe a situation that he totally fails to land his thoughts and actually answer the questions. I don't know, maybe he doesn't want to go in too deep on certain subjects because he wants to keep his private life out of the public eye, but then again, why bother to do an interview where you know that the intention of doing so is precisely to get to know the Athletes better. It was very disappointing. He's one of the greatest swimmers ever, I was really looking forward to this interview, it had so much potential...

This is your first podcast that was a huge disappointment. He literally did not say one thing that he has done since retirement except live on his boat. He also had the audacity to think we know everything about him. What jobs does or has he had? What brought him to Hawaii or the other places he’s lived? How is he helping the next generation? I know almost nothing more about him than I did an hour ago except that he missed his Olympic call time and you all think it’s funny. He and the US should have been disqualified.

I'm pretty sure Melvin Stewart mentioned (during a SwimSwam livestream, possibly their 2022 or 2023 world championship coverage) that Peirsol had invested heavily in Alamo Drafthouse Cinemas back in the 2000s, made a killing when their business grew exponentially, and now doesn't have to work at all due to all of the money he made. He doesn't appear to want a traditional home life anyway. (I think Anthony Ervin is the same.)

@@echosmyron1278 that’s interesting, it would have been nice to hear more about that in the interview. A swimswam interview also said that he went back to school at 40 and got a masters in counseling. Unfortunately, none of that information was included in this interview. I found this conversation incredibly frustrating.

Classic Karen raigebait comment. "A huge dissapointment"? You don't know who he is until now? Are you even a swimming fan? Who still holds the Mens 200m Backstroke WR even after 15 years later? Did you not listen to the whole podcast? What about where he talked about the importance of mental health, taking breaks and the next generation of swimmers? What did you expect this podcast was going to be about? And that call room story was hilarious. Stop being such a hater lol 😂

@@officialdamadmanchannel6513 , I expected and looked forward to hearing about what he has done after he retired from professional swimming. I wanted to hear how swimming and his coaches influenced his professional and personal life. I hoped to hear if he had children, what his current goals are and why he’s living on a boat in Hawaii.

I admire his swim career. Mentally I feel like he makes too many generalizations, also how many people can take 6 months off the sport of swimming and not lose some kind of momentum in the sport. Very few people and probably he's one of them.
