This is the most underrated world record in swim history. He destroyed the previous record and is so much faster than anyone else in history, why does no one ever talk about this race?
Maybe because he was a specialist. He was strictly backstroke. Who knows? I agree. The individual breaking this record is still in grade school. Peirsol was awesome. He was one of the few swimmers I would tune it to watch just to see what he could do. I got to see him swim in person and the way he moved through the water was astounding. I don't know how these swimmers do it, but his stroke was on another level. Incredible to be see.
I agree. Usually the 200 free and 400 IM WRs are said to be the most difficult, but the closest anyone has come since Peirsol's 1:51.92 at 2009 worlds is Lochte's 1:52.96 at 2011 worlds.
I'll tell you the truth about this race. The polyurethane suit DEFINITELY was more beneficial to backstrokers, especially in the 200. Helped with better body position in the water and sustainability with legs. If this world record gets broken with no high tech suit...this one will be a huge surprise.
Cause of the Tech suits. The full body, full legged tech suits made you swim fast as fuck. They called 2009 world champs "The last dance" for a reason after that year full body and full legged tech suits were banned and swimming hasn't been the same ever since. We only see guys breaking world records left and right now after 15 years
@@jeda7343 Yes but Aaron wasn't wearing the full body suit here. He was definitely going to break the record in jammers as well. Nobody is coming close even after 15 years while the rest of the records have either fallen or it has been very close
This world record will be the hardest one to break. Keep in mind that in this world champs Michael Phelps broke the 200m fly world record at the time and he did 1:51.51. Piersol did 1:51.92 in 200m backstroke thats insane!!! Nobody has ever come close to that. 1:51.92 is really fucking fast for 200m backstroke
@MVPacMan23 Actually they both increased buoyancy. The x-glide just increased buoyancy more because it is made of 100% polyurethane whereas the LZR only had polyurethane panels over the areas with most resistance. ie the chest etc.
not a cheater because it was allowed that year in rules but obviously had a massive effect on his times based on his performance before during and after being able to wear that suit.
umm athens 2004 was the premier meet for the fastskin2, and in melbourne they were wearing the fspro suit. all tech suits. the lzr was speedos first suit that wasnt made from a woven material. plus, in 2000 in sydney a lot of guys wore the original fastskin.
Everyone’s talking about how super suits are cheating but noone’s talking about how unbelievably fast Piersol was, how noone since this race has even really gotten close to this record and it being over 10 years since this. Also, both Piersol and Irie broke the record!!!? At a world champs final!!!!? 2 hype
@hotjulio123 Both the old lzr and the arena x-glide were legal at the time. Speedo made a new lzr in 2010 which complied with the new regulations brought in at that time.
What do you think about Ryan Murphy lol? 7 years after your comment he won double golds in the two backstroke events, and now 7 years after that I reply to your comment.
@ps2monster is no t the same material lazer panels are the same material as the x glide but black parts of the lzr is a less compresive material called lzr pulse SORRY FOR MY ENGLISH, argentinian
Cesar Cielo is a good sprinter like Nystrand and Sullivan but i don't think he s' gonna to keep his title in London 2012. Do you thinh Biedermann's record will be break one day ?
The Aquablade sure is a racing suit, but it does not enhance your speed the way a LZR does. I have used the Aquablade and FS Pro before and using it definitely does not improve my times in any significant way. However, the original LZR definitely improved my times. About a second in the 100 yard free.
@Zbigboz...Most US olympic swimmers are sponsored by speedo, therefore they couldn't have worn a suit by another company unless they want to flush money down the drain. The suit thing is mainly fixed now, so it isn't a big deal anymore.
The LZR also increases bouyancy, not as much but it has polyurethane panels on it = bouyancy. Don't talk about things you don't know. Besides this, I think Biedermann isn't a cheater, because the suits were accessible for everyone at these championships! I was there and Jaked & Adidas were distributing those suits to every swimmer for free! I got a Adidas Hydrofoil free! Insane...
not sure about it. All these new records are like an illusion...................Most of these records were gotten with the "high tech" suits which are gonna be banned next year so who knows what's gonna happen. The Biedermann's record will be really tough to be beat in the future. It'll take 15-20 years to be beaten. Do you think that Federica Pellegrini is gonna be an all time great? She really impressed me at these worlds.
@MVPacMan23 i agree that the suit actually helped him out. even 0.01 sec. however remember ian thorpe also worn a black full body suit. it's not as high tech but, at the time i guess it is cheating as well.
stop talking about phelps and beidermann. i used to argue like that in the comments section too until i realized that if phelps didnt give a shit then why the fuck should i? germany isnt among the top swimming countries (usa, france, russia, china, etc) and beidermann is like a hero to germany now. he had a good year, so what? good for him
Cheater? Every swimmer was wearing the new suits. The LZR is made up the same material as the other suits. It's all preference. Phelps said he liked the LZR better because of it's compression. It's all personal preference.
bierdermann isnt a cheater it was legal to were the suit then, and everyone had the opportunity to go with that suit also. phelps lost fair and square.
yeah, it's totally rubbish. Phelps showed everybody that he's the best ever coz he wins with high tech suits or Non high tech suits. Phelp's been breaking records since 2000.

@@johnblack8036 Peirsol swam the 100 fly A final at Nationals the same summer, so he wasn't strictly a Backstroker.
@@jalenstimes7452 Yeah I'm aware, but I never saw him swim anything other than backstroke and freestyle internationally.

Me here seeing all the comments from 9-13 years ago, such an underrated swim, such an underrated swimmer
Aaron Peirsol is best backstroker at moment - pure class
The trend I see in this race, pull up at take your marks last, and you will win.
@@deckercoffey Creates less tension in the arms prior to start. As I'm sure you know!
You can see how common WR's were in 2009 that a guy breaks one by over a second and the commentators don't care.

10 years and still stand
yeah, aint no milak type figure breaking this mark any time soon.
Now 15
Irie is amazing! He maintained his standard from 2009 to 2012!

This may be the only record from the tech suit era that is better than the textile record, good job Pierson
*piersol
Yeah definitely because he wasn't just winning only because of the suit
A redemption- race! and... i agree...aaron is the best ever in backstroke..
@MVPacMan23 Actually they both increased buoyancy. The x-glide just increased buoyancy more because it is made of 100% polyurethane whereas the LZR only had polyurethane panels over the areas with most resistance. ie the chest etc.
Peirsol, man of the centuty with Phelps, Thorpe, Hackett and Kitajima

Man! Coming home, Lochte really tightened up!
lochte didn't tighten up irie just has the best end of race speed ever
I agree, he's the best backstroker ever with the respect of Roland Matthes and John Naber.
