- #119 - DIY How to Pour Your Own Fluid Acrylic Christmas Ornaments 🎄 Using The Bloom Technique
I was really blown away by the response I got in several of my Facebook acrylic pouring groups when I recently posted photos of some ornaments I had done. Several people asked for a video tutorial to show the process and I am always too happy to oblige if it helps people learn this really fun way to paint ornaments.

**I got into acrylic pouring after playing around with epoxy resin and wanting to do some art with it. After realizing the amount of time it took to prep and clean up, it wasn’t quite as appealing to me anymore. That’s when I stumbled onto some UA-cam videos about acrylic pouring and I WAS HOOKED. This was in 2020, and with COVID running rampant, it was the perfect thing to keep me occupied and staying home, safe and sound. This art form is extremely cathartic and empowering at the same time.
There’s no greater feeling than pouring paint on to a canvas and watching magic happen before your eyes! I’m so honored to be displaying my work in two local restaurants and a gallery, Art Machine Gallery, here in Houston - so exciting! Thank you so much for coming along on this journey with me!**

So gorgeous, I have yet to try. Yours are beautiful. And you are so neat. No mess❤
Thank you Phyllis! I do try to stay somewhat clean but it’s hard sometimes with house paint!
This was a terrific video and it minded me of glazing over.....thanks!
Thank you for watching Marna!
I hung these very ornaments on my tree tonight I think......Gorgeous!!!!
Oooooh Elayne! You’ll have to send me a picture of them on the tree!! Thank you so much for buying them! I love that they’re in the home of someone I love! ❤️
Thanks Britt! I love the ornaments. I've never seen anyone paint both sides. This is a step above!!! Thanks!
Thank you Rebecca! It’s pretty easy to do both sides just because of the shape of the ornament!
These are just stunningly beautiful. I have been thinking about trying paint pouring for some time and you have inspired me. Thank you for all the details.
Thank you Angela! I’m so glad you like them and thanks for watching!
Absolutely gorgeous 🥰

Thank you love!! ❤️
Ornaments are lovely. Would have loved to see the blowing technique.
@@Navillus02 - there are many other artists that have their camera set up so that you can see the blow out process. Sheleeart is the creator of the bloom, I know she has tons of them - as does Lisa Marvin, Frosty Eye Kandi, Justin Salley…
So beautifulll thank you for sharing
Thank you so much sweetheart!
Awesome Britt. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you so much for this video 🙏🏼 I just bought some Christmas baubles in the sales and wondered about doing a bloom on them. You have given me everything I need to have a go. Thanks again 💕🙏🏼🍀

Sooooo Pretty !!!! Now I want to decorate my X-Mas tree LOL. Thanks for sharing all that knowledge . Hugzzzzz to ya girl 🥰🥰

Beautiful!❤
Thank you so much Denise!
Absolutely beautiful. I now have to run out & see if I can find the same shaped globes!!! Probably wouldn't on round ones.
Thank you Terri! I think the true round balls would run too much and you’d lose your composition.
Absolutely gorgeous, ty for the vid
Thanks Phyllis!
Gorgeous
Thanks SJ! 🥰
They look amazing x
Thanks Jeanette!
So pretty!
Thanks Hayley!
Absolutely Stunning
I saved this so I can try to do it… I too bought a bunch at the end of the year from Michael’s so I’m excited now to try to do them like you’re doing them at all. These turned out amazing
Ty for sharing 🤎🧡🖤💛
Thanks Tina! Oh I’m so glad you got some on sale!! Now it’s your turn to create some magic on the canvas!
They turned out BEAUTIFUL 🤩
Thank you Joanne!
I'm trying this. I have same ones. Thanks they are beautiful
Thanks for watching Darlene! Have fun and let me know how yours turn out!
These are beautiful, how long did you wait before taping the back side. I'm worried about the tape peeling the paint off
Thank you Anita! I waited less than two days. This is enamel paint, so it doesn’t peel as easily as you would expect.
Those colors are freakin fantastic!
Thank you so much Rose! ❤️🌹
Beautiful 😍😍
Thank you Kay! 🥰
Perfect!
Thank you!!
These are just stunning! Have you ever painted the inside of the ornaments? And after a year or so does the paint crack?
I’ve never poured inside - you definitely could not get this look by doing so. And I’ve never heard of the paint cracking after time if they’re sealed properly.
Hey girl!!! Nice job!! They turned out gorgeous.
Thanks lovey!! 🥰
So beautiful 🧡
Thank you Lynn!
Very beautiful for xmas
Thank you Angela!!
@@BrittClaytonDesign welcome 🤗
Can I just say WOWSA - these are amazing. I want to do them tonight LOL, but I fly out at 5 am and cannot. This was a great video - so so pretty WOW Love them
Girl, you can say whatevah you wanna say, and I will say THANK YOU MY FRIEND! in return!! ❤️
I love your intro. So many lovely paintings to see there! Dang, Britt, I might just have to copy that idea! LOL. Anyway, love these ornaments!! They are truly gorgeous!!! 🥰🥰🥰
Thank you so much Miss Holly! ❤️
These are absolutely gorgeous!!! 💕💕🐣
Thank you Ami!
They are beautiful 😍 ❤
Thank you sweetheart!! 🥰
Beautiful.. would have been lovely to see the finished product hanging instead of in the carton.. But .. Im probably going to give it a go anyway ❤
Hi Julie! I don’t have trees up in my house anymore due to my three cats that have taken over my universe. LOL.
I just didn’t catch how you get the design to come out the way it did. Beautiful, and classy.
@@LindaManey-g2j - I blow the paint out by mouth. I don’t like putting the back of my head in the camera, and that’s all you would see as I’m blowing it out.
@@BrittClaytonDesign ok, thank you. That makes sense!!!! So beautiful!!!
Very nice love your solution to too much gold.
Thank you Amy!
I love them, they're all gorgeous. I have a question, I'm sure it's a dumb question but I'm going to ask anyway. Can I add mica powder to white paint or black paint? If I can what kind of paint should I use? instead of buying so many different colors of paint. Thank you
Hi Pam! You can, but it won’t make a lot of difference. Mica is dependent on light for its shine - so if it’s mixed with paint, that paint is going to hinder a lot of the light from reflecting off the mica.
Those are beautiful. I need to find some ornaments like those. Round ones are way too hard. Thanks for sharing. 🧡
Michaels always has a ton of them!!
I love these, soooo gooood❣
Thank you Jan!! 🥰
So pretty Britta ❤ love your videos - you rock this girl!
Thank you so much Meg!
They turned out really lovely really really nice job that would’ve scared me so much to take the freshly poured only 24 hours old painting on the other side. Thank you so much for the video that was very helpful. 🤗🙏🥰
Thank you sweet Tracy!!
Wow wow wow
I hope those are good wows!
your ornaments are beautiful! Thanks for sharing your wealth of knowledge. May I ask you where did you find the plastic holder for the ornaments?
Thank you! I purchased them as a set of four. So that’s the container they came in.
Beautiful 😍 🤩
Thank you Betty!! 🥰
Oh My goodness you soooo inspired me. Bought myself a box of 4. Tops looked beautiful!!
However painters tape stuck on previous painted side pooh!!
Help what can I do so it doesn't pull off my bloom????
The tape shouldn’t have stuck to the painted side at all. Did you use the untinted house paint and varnish as your pouring medium?
Hello. Im new to your channel. I love these ornaments.
Almost all of the ornaments on my tree are hand-made by me, so when I saw these, I had to watch how you made them.
Can I use plastic instead of glass ornaments ?
Hi June, welcome to my channel!! Yes ma’am, you can use plastic if you prefer. I just like the feel and the weight of the glass ornaments.
@BrittClaytonDesign
Yes, the glass ones are heavier, but have gotten broken, even when I believed they were packed well.
What was the stuff in the little bottle you drop on ? They are so beautiful.
Thank you Pris
Hi Priscille! That was cell activator.
Did I miss something? Does the paint seep under the tape or did you place the tape over dry painted side before doing side 2? Love it!
I painted one side at a time. Waited until the first side was dry, removed the tape, then taped off the painted side and poured the other side of the ornament.
Hi just wondering what you do when you pop them off screen and then back thought u may have spun but saw a comment that you don’t :) thanks they are truely beautiful ❤
Thanks Angie! I just blow them out off screen so you don’t have to see the back of my head!
very nice, I love thee
Thank you!
These are beautiful. When you taped the 1st completed side, how long did you allow it to dry? I’d be afraid to pull off the paint when pulling off the tape.
I let them dry about 24 hours. You’re using bloom recipe paint, which is enamel, so it dries very quickly and it’s pretty tough.
What is the bloom recipe..?please
They are beautiful 🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄
Wow! Your ornaments are really outstanding and your video is so complete. I’m blown away on so many levels. Thank you for this video!!
I have one question- it seemed that you taped the painted side 24 hours after painting it. Did I get that correctly?
Thank you Val! Yes, I taped them off 24 hours later. This is enamel paint and it’s on glass so drying time is phenomenal.
Beautiful! I especially love that black ruby. 🤩 Have you ever painted on the plastic ones?
Thank you Patty! No, I’ve never painted on the plastic ones. I prefer the weight of the glass ornaments.
You are such a great teacher 🥰Beautiful ornaments!!!
Awww thanks so much Cathleen!! 🥰
Britt
These are very nice. I have a question are you ornaments glass
or are they plastic? I love the colors.
Hi Leaetta! Thanks for stopping by!! I’m so glad you like the colors - me too! These are glass ornaments. I just like the feel of them better. But you can pour on plastic as well.
I've just found these beauties. Thank you for sharing! I don't know if you have time to answer a question, but just in case: how long do you wait for the paints to dry on one side before being able to tape over it and paint the other side, please? Thank you!!! Susan H.
Hi Susan, thank you so much! In answer to your question: because I’m using housepaint for these (the bloom technique), I do one side one day, and the next day I do the other side. The enamel dries really fast so I can get them all done in a weekend.
Very pretty, I subscribed
Thank you so much Laura!! I appreciate you watching and subscribing!! 😘
Love these! May be a dumb question but do you simply just let the paint slide off and not tilt or spin? Thank you!
That is correct. You let gravity do the work for you. These are way too small to spin. The weight of the paint spreads the bloom out.
@@BrittClaytonDesign thanks so much!
Those are gorgeous Britt! Is the varnish a strong enough finish to protect them from scratches or peeling?
Thank you Diana! Yes, it actually is. It gives quite the nice shine and a tough finish.
I want to do this so badly BUT, the wasted excess paint that drips off drives me nuts. I just can’t do this until I get over the necessary wasted paint issue! Beautiful!
There’s not a whole lot of wasted paint doing ornaments, not sure what you mean?
Just paint pours in general. I’ve only watched and see the drips. Maybe pour higher over another pour.
I use for "skins" on back of clear glass cabs for pendants, earrings, foals for browbands on beaded horse tack, even for hour markers on clock faces.
Hi, these organic type bulbs pictured are beautiful. Do you sell these on Etsy or eBay or??? Thank you. ***Just Stunning 😊
Hi Pat! No, I don’t have them listed anywhere but you can always email me if you’re interested in a set! My email is in my video description.
Thx for this Britta. I wonder how Polypour or Vivid Enamel would work instead of varnish? I have several bottles on hand. You were able to tape off the painted side after 24 hours? I’m surprised it wouldn’t pull the paint off when removed.
The thing with the Prizm Pour is that you don’t have to mix them with anything. I probably should’ve used them straight out of the bottle and kept the consistency super thick.
Oh my Britt, could they be any prettier! If you could show me how to do this on a porcelain ball ornament I would be in heaven! I have 50 that I need to do before December. Or, I'll have to do alcohol inks on them again this year. Anyways, your creativity is endless! ♥♥♥
Thank you Kris! I haven’t figured out how I would do a full round yet. The runoff would just be too much, I think?
@@BrittClaytonDesign I need to keep trying different things, but I believe that the thicker the paint, the better. I'll share what I come up with when I have them completed.
So pretty, what is the white liquid you apply 1st, is it acrylic white paint, very interested in this process
@@jeaninserra7436 - At what stage are you asking about the white? At the beginning of the process or more towards the end?
@@BrittClaytonDesign both
Can you tell us how you got the tape off and show the back of the ornaments when finished, I just found your channel and would love to make some
Hi Beth! The tape just peels off. Do it very slowly along the tape line and it’ll come right off. Both sides of the ornament are bloomed on, so they look the same on both sides.
@@BrittClaytonDesign Thank you
@@beth9317 - You’re very welcome! I’m going to be doing some more here soon so stay tuned!
I’m guessing blowing through a straw so you can aim it how you like it at least that’s what I think I would do beautiful ornaments
These are actually mouth-blown. A straw wouldn’t give the air coverage needed to blow out the cell activator.
Britt, these are beautiful 😍. Would it work on the plastic ornaments? Thank you for sharing
Thank you Tina! Yes, they’ll work on plastic as well.
Why do you have to torch it? Gorgeous by the way.
@@roxihardegreeart - I’m thinking you’re asking about the torching after varnish them? The varnish is a very thin consistency and the friction created by brushing it on causes air bubbles. You want to definitely pop them before they dry as they can be very noticeable.
You mention the cell activator. Is that the black drop that you added or was that paint? How important is it to have a heat torch?
Yes, the black drop was the CA. Cell activator IS paint. In this case it was Amsterdam Lamp Black mixed with Australian Floetrol. All of my recipes are always listed in the video description so you can copy them down and try them in your own artistry!
@@BrittClaytonDesign thank you so much!
@@GingerHallman - you’re very welcome!! ❤️
Gorgeous, wondered how to do both sides and now end up with a mess.😉
Joyous Bean! No messes allowed! LOL
Beautiful. What is the last liquid you’re pouring to make it bloom?
Thank you! That is cell activator.
When you say 3.5p of the floetrol what does the p stand for? And do you have a link for floetrol? I’ve heard many say they use the Australian and that some of the others are the wrong kind and won’t work…I don’t know what the difference is when looking it up
Hey Bonnie! The p stands for part. Your basis for measuring is usually the amount of paint you use. So if you use an ounce of paint, that would mark your ONE part. I used 3.5 parts of Aussie Floetrol, which would be 3.5 ounces. You can find Australian Floetrol at www.Fluid-Art.co. Go to their website and look at the photo of it. Then look up Flood Floetrol on Home Depot’s website. You’ll see the difference in the bottles.
I just love everything you do. You are such an inspiration! How long did you wait to varnish? 3 weeks like a painting?
Thank you so much Heather! I varnished a couple days later.
How long did you let them dry on the first side before you taped it to do the second side?
Hi Karen! I think I waited about 24 hours before I did the second side. Bloom paint dries incredibly fast.
Love this! Where do you buy the cups and spoons?
Hey Becky! I purchase the cups in bulk on Amazon and the spoons are from Colourarte.
B R A V O ! ! ! 😄
Thank you Jorge!!
