Ingredients:
1 pound lean ground beef, or more
1 onion, diced
2 garlic cloves, pressed
2 cups tomato sauce, of choice
2 tbsp olive oil
1 tsp sea salt
½ tsp pepper, or more
½ tsp oregano
½ tsp chili powder
1 tsp onion powder
2 or 3 cups elbow noodles, macaroni
1 cup shredded mixed cheese, or more
2 tbsp parmesan cheese
Method:
In a saucepan half full of hot water, bring to a boil and add ½ tsp sea salt and 1 tbsp olive oil. Then add elbow noodles and only part boil noodles. “They will continue cooking in casserole dish”.
In a frying pan with olive oil, add lean ground beef, ½ tsp sea salt, pepper, diced onion, onion powder, oregano and chili powder. Fry for 10 minutes or until no longer pink, then add tomato sauce.
Drain elbow noodles and keep one cup of the starch water for sauce. Add the starch water to frying pan and noodles, continue cooking for 5 minutes.
In a casserole dish 9 x 13 or dish of choice, pour all mixture into dish and top with shredded cheese and parmesan cheese, cover with foil or lid, bake in a preheated oven of 400ºF for 20 minutes covered and then another 5 to 10 minutes uncovered to brown top.
Serve with mixed veggies and toss salad.
Bonita’s Tips:
Use regular ground beef and drain the oil off before adding any ingredients, if you lean ground beef is to expensive.
Only parboil noodles, they will continue cooking in the casserole dish.
I apologize in advance if anything in this video is not clear or miss read, please follow my recipe when making this dish.

I’m from Newfoundland living in Edmonton. Love seeing these recipes. Feeling horrible for the west coast. I hope you all are ok.
Hi Cheryl and welcome! Thank you for stopping by and for leaving a message. It is indeed a sad and horrible time for the south west coast of NL at this time. The damages and loss is unbelievable. We only seen a small amount of this hurricane on our side and we are so greatfull. Have a wonderful day and thank you :) Bonita
I hope you and Raymond are doing well and not being hit too hard with the storm. Greetings from Maine
Ditto.. from ontario
Hi Molly, Thank you for thinking of us and for stopping by, we are doing good but the storm hit hard on the south west coast of NL. Our thoughts and prayers go out to each one of them for all their loss. You just never know what can happen until you are in the eye of a storm. We also would like to extend our thoughts and prayer to all our East Coast Neighbours who also got hit really bad by Hurricane Fiona, words can't say how sorry we are for your loss. Hugs and Prayers! Bonita and Raymond
Another Edmonton viewer here, thinking of you all over there and hoping all will be well sooner rather than later. Take care and God bless, and thank you for another tasty home made dinner, Bonita. 😘💖
Looks delicious! I hope all is well with You & Yours after Fiona’s Fury!! 🤗🤗🙏
So relieved you posted this with the news you were spared the worst of Fiona 🌊! Many nurses & PSWs here at my nursing home come from 'Down East' & have been anxiously watching the news. My nurse today has a young son who drove down to NS on vacation this week & just learned he's safe on the west coast but others still have no word from family on the west coast of NL & are frantic. Wish I could cook up a ton of this delicious, comforting goulash casserole 🍅🧅🫑🧄🧀🍲to take to a shelter for all those who've lost their homes 😢!! Soldiers 🧑✈are flying 🛫there from the air base near me so help is on the way!
Looks yummy ❤🥰🌈🦋🌈🦋🌈🌺🌼🍁🍁🍁🍁🍁🍁🍁🍁🍁🍁🍁🍁
Greetings from Wisconsin:) So glad to hear that you and Raymond are safe and sound. Super fantastic recipe too.
Yes, lovely, some shocking good recipe. Last time I made it my hubby though it was store bought. Lovely teacup Bonita.
Terrible with all of the devastation on the West Coast. Keeping them in my prayers.
Was wondering if you were near where the hurricane hit.. Good to know you and Raymond are safe. Prayers for those affected by the storm!
Glad you are safe and sound. Thanks for sharing.
You are very welcome and thank you so much Tonya for your message and for stopping by. We feel so blessed today to wake up to only minor garden damages. But we do feel sad for everyone that wasn't so lucky. God bless them and their families. Bonita
@@bonitaskitchen yes, many prayers sent to all whom were effected.
This reminds me of several similar dishes in the States: Johnny Marzetti (in the Midwest), American chop suey (in the Northeast), Goulash, beef and macaroni, ... A dish that's simple, tasty, and filling.
Two thumbs up and a drop the fork goodness from me. I have never made this. But now, my husband better watch out. He will love it. Thank you so much for the recipe and the video. Your team works very hard each week so each one of us can enjoy the videos. I hope you are safe with the storm howling.
The casserole looks very tasty Bonita. I hope you are all staying safe in the storms.
Yum, yum, yum! 😋 I can almost taste it!
My mother made this and we call it ‘Comfort Goulash’. It’s still a favourite for us and my grandchildren love it !
Nice! I'm so glad it bought back fond memories for you. Thank you so much for stopping by and enjoy to the fullest.....Bonita
Thank goodness we are getting back to my favorites - Comfort foods for the cooler weather! We waited all summer for this
Nice! Thank you for stopping by and enjoy to the fullest. :) Bonita
Oh Bonita you don’t know how much Noel and I appreciate all your videos. Hi to Raymond. Thank you and have a great day.
Aww! Thank you so much for stopping by and we are so glad you are enjoying our video and recipes. We also appreciate all our viewers for all their support for channel. Bonita
So glad to hear you weathered the storm alright. Your goulash is exactly as my mother made it, and she learned from her mother nearly 100 years ago in Alaska.
Oh my that is so lovely, thank you for stopping by and sharing that with us. We are doing great and we are so blessed the hurricane missed us this time. God Bless you for your message.
Have a lovely day....
Bonita
Another real winner and one I will gladly share. So many ways to make it to anyone's particular tastes and VERY budget friendly, which I agree is important. Most everyone has all these ingredients at hand too. Thanks for sharing the kitchen goodness. And I hope you and yours are OK from that tropical storm/.
I have made Goulash many times just about like yours but never baked it and put cheese on top. Thank you! It will be so much better now!
So glad to see your post and that you have weather the storm
You are very welcome and thank you so much for your lovely message and for stopping by. We pre-taped this video because we didn't want to miss out on our Sunday post. But we weather the storm well and was so greatfull to only have a few damaged trees, no property damage. Thank you so much...Bonita
That casserole looks very tasty. I hope those affected by Fiona can recover, as soon as possible. Cheers, Bonita and Raymond! ✌️🙏🇨🇦
Thank you so much Dwayne for your message and Prayers for those effected by Fiona. We as well will keep them in our thoughts and Prayers. They have started the long clean up work and got help from many people, also thank you for stopping by. Enjoy our NEW recipe. :) Bonita
Haven't had this in years, mom would add a tin of tomatoes to hers. I just might try this one again.
Nice! I love can tomatoes in it too, but Raymond said that's not the way he remembered it as a kid. Of course I like it with cheese and baked in the oven, still have a nice cup of hot tea and slice of homemade bread. :) Enjoy......Bonita
Made this for dinner and my family loved it ❤ Thank you Bonita’s Kitchen!
Oh my that is wonderful!! I'm so glad you made our recipe and enjoyed it. Thank you for letting me know and I hope you get to make more of our tasty recipes. :) Bonita
I noticed that tea cozy and was going to ask about it, unusual. Another good family dish. Yum.
Yes, My sister in law made it for me and it can be used for anything hot. Thank you Brenda for stopping by and enjoy our NEW recipe to the fullest. :) Bonita
My mom called this "mixed up dinner" Always a favourite. When my daughters were busy with school activities this was always easy to make, easy to reheat and appreciated. I like to add celery, orange or red pepper and mushrooms. I prefer diced tomatoes rather than tomatoe sauce. You can make this all on the stove and skip the oven step if your in a hurry.
Yes Elizabeth, it is truly a very easy recipe and quick. It all can be done on the stove top for sure. Thank you for sharing your recipe and for stopping by. Enjoy :) Bonita
I had no idea Canadians ate goulash! I thought it was pretty much a Southern US dish. My Mom's family is from Oklahoma and Arkansas and she just made it in a pot, but I like the way you made it into a casserole with cheese. A little more deluxe! But yeah, you basically used the same ingredients that most Southerners use and even call it by the same name. Same with adding bell pepper if you have it and also we sometimes add canned corn to it. Whatever you have on hand.
Aww! Thank you Jeff for stopping by, my husbands family have been making goulash for over 60 years. He can remember coming home from school to a warm bowl full. The casserole is something I started making for us to give it more of a change. Of course we all love cheese and what better way to have it. Enjoy and thank you :) Bonita
A southern US dish? Goulash is of Hungarian origins.
it's actually Hungarian originally - you'd love some of the stuff we eat in Canada - and if Bonita cooks it, it's gonna be good! :)
@@user-wb5ml2mw6h Not the "chili mac" type made in the South. They call it goulash, but it has nothing to do with Hungarian cooking.
@@jeffmorse645 Then it's not Goulash. It's a "chili mac" casserole.
Hello from Idaho ❤
You know... I was looking around the internet for something to watch, I found most things were cheap and shallow and were mostly, if not all bullshit. I find your channel refreshingly honest. Thanks Bonita

MMMM Comfort Food !! I hope Fiona doesn't cause too many problems for you all, it's a terrible storm.
Thank you so much for stopping by, Fiona was good to us on the east side of NL but on the south west coast she didn't hold back. House washed out to sea and damages be on words, we still can't believe it. Our thought's and prayers are with them and all their families. Bonita
Suchagood cook
Thank you my friend, I'm so glad you stopped by and enjoyed our recipe. We post every Sunday if you wish to stop back. :) Welcome!!! Bonita
Omgsh we had goulash the other day. I wish I had the recipe then this looks amazing. Our Andrew goulash was one of his favourite meals to have. I thought we were the only ones that called it goulash. Lol. I hope you all in Newfoundland are safe I been praying so hard for everyone effected by this storm back home. I been wishing I was there to help everyone. We are taking a trip there soon. I am going to make this as a special dish to our Andrew this fall. You made it the way Andrew liked it he didn’t want mushrooms and stuff in it. He would have loved this so much with the cheese. Ma would make for us a lot growing up too Raymond. Andrew called parm stinky cheese lol. I can’t wait to make this !! Thank you for everything Bonita you are the absolute best.
Love the photos you share. That picture is so nice of you all
Thank you Jerri-ellen for stopping by, I'm so glad you are doing well. Goulash for us always was a budget meal, but of course adding in the cheese do kick it up a notch. Raymond's family always enjoyed having this meal and served it with a nice slice of homemade bread with lots of butter and hot cup of tea..... I'm so glad you guys made this meal as well, only a few simple ingredients but it tastes amazing. Have a wonderful week and keep well. Bonita
This looks delicious. I can't wait to make it. Could you please tell me what brand of tea you drink. All the best to you and yours always.
You are very welcome Nonna for your message and for stopping by, I'm glad you enjoyed our NEW recipe. I love a few different teas, Red Rose is my everyday tea and Mint tea is my evening tea. I just got a box of Earl Grey tea for my Son and wife and its very tasty too. Enjoy your day and our NEW recipe..... :) Bonita
I make something similar where I add in more chilli powder and a can of spicy diced tomatoes and I calls it chilli Mac
Nice! Sounds lovely! Thank you Steve for stopping by and sharing your recipe with us. Enjoy :) Bonita
My mom always used tomato soup in her goulash.
bonita it was call trash cassarole when i was growing up... ANYTHING LEFTOVER when into this and baked... for a meatier verion...id go all out pepperoni bites / steak /pork chop/ hamberg / sweet sausage/ pieces of bacon load the seasonings right to it and of course cheese.. done and def a gut filler ;];];] i like vegg in it too some ppl dont ..it gets too mushy for them....great meal for this time of yr;];];]
I know right! This is a tasty meal and of course you can jazz it up so many ways or keep it basic. Thank you for stopping by and enjoy our NEW recipe to the fullest. :) Bonita
My mom made this all the time, only she called it homemade hamburger helper
Nice! Thank you Laura for sharing that with us and enjoy. :) Bonita
I call this hamburger mess , quick easy , I use tomato soup , add soy sauce and Worcester sauce. And a little tomato paste and ketchup l it’s good .
Hi Joan, Thank you so much for stopping by and I'm so glad you left a message. So many wonderful ways to make this affordable meal. It is indeed a quick and easy recipe and made so many ways. :) Enjoy and stop back anytime. :) Bonita
Just a thought...(I do this)...if you spray a small amount of oil on the foil before you put it on the cheese, the cheese will not stick.....
That is a wonderful tip! Thank you and I will try that for now on.....:) Bonita
Bonita have you ever had tea buns but they have little pieces of fat back scrunchions in them? My Nan used to make them, I think she palled them pork buns.
Hi and thank you for your message and for stopping by, I have a recipe here for molasses tea buns and you can have them plain, raisins or fat pork. Check out the recipe, you can also fry the fat pork first then add them to the recipe ua-cam.com/video/-En1VfwTzXQ/v-deo.html Enjoy message anytime.....we have cheese tea buns posting today if you wish to stop back. :) Bonita
Save your meat fat when you pour it off. You can use it for cooking fat.
Yes for sure, but I do like using some but mostly I use olive oil for cooking. Thank you so much vicky for stopping by and enjoy our NEW recipe and video to the fullest. :) Bonita
