Don't get me wrong, those scenes were good too, but not soldiers-hitting-the-ground-maximum-hype good, like this :D

Ricky Chiang Me too! ...imo it's just one of those sequences where the music couldn't be more perfect to what we're seeing happen. A sequence like that, or like say, the arrival to Earth sequence in the 1st Tranformers is the kind of thing that really sets a movie apart from others for me - regardless of what you might have thought about the movie overall. In this case; I felt like removing the pilot scenes in between this drop really adds to the intensity and tension of it ❤
Totally, when I’m watching a movie, I want to feel, “that was freaking amazing” and a sense of completion and excitement . I really don’t care about the politics or even controversy that went into this movie or another example, “Ender’s game”. Just entertain me for an hour and half....2hours
Nope. Love this scene. Uplifting and gets me ready to face any challenge. Like I feel like I could live with cancer if I had this playing on loop.

The CGI looks incredible for 1997, I think cause it's integrated with the set design and practical FX perfectly so it never stands out or looks wrong

Like a lot of war films that intend to convey an anti-war message, Starship Troopers kinda undermines itself by making war look _really badass_ .
Sure, on a tactical level everything the Mobile Infantry do is stupid, but god damn they look cool doing it. I'm willing to bet a least a few young men volunteered to serve because of this film, which would give Paul Verhoeven an aneurism.
It's also kinda funny how the very Dutch Verhoeven made one of the most American films of all time. Yeah it's satire, but this film pisses red, white and blue.

Obviously he is giving his platoon a sense of motivation. Going into battle especially as first wave. Opening scene just amazing. “ We are going with first wave, means more bugs for us to kill, you smash the entire area you kill anything that has more than two legs, you get me” the response is just amazing.

The director delivered such a great scene. I love how i feel the axiety, overexcitement, and chaos of the landing (mixed with epic sound). The boarding, flight, and landing were delivered so well.

That or when you are nervous or scared you tend to clench your jaw. Widening it like that relieves pressure.
Their helmets are used everyday just like football. Trust me that chinstrap is fitted perfectly

@Chris Topher Yes they did; because I'm terminally immature, I watched it on my VCR after I got home from work. I think one of the troopers called that Mech Suit a 'marauder'.

When I’m climbing a difficult tree at work and I get scared I always in my head say” remember your training, you’ll make it back alive “ this scene was so powerful when I was a kid . Never got to be a soldier but that scene made me want to be one.

After serving and deploying to Iraq, I can honestly say when the commander says, "Remember your training and you will make it back alive" is a very true statement! I wouldn't be here if I hadn't remembered my training when I was under attack in Tikrit, Iraq back in 2004 on Operation Iraqi Freedom.

I love this film. I love the book.
I’m holding out for a book-faithful adaptation, but if not...this still does it...albeit barely as far as the book is considered.
Me too! Little or no CGI. I want book faithful power armor/mechanized battle suits. Similar to the suits in the RTS game.
The OVA that came before the movie
Watched it in 1998, and 2024, the CGI is in my opinion still very nice. The practical effects, epic. The urge to do my part, still there.
If you guys want this kind of immersion beyond the 4 player Helldivers 2 offering, check out Starship Troopers: Extermination. It's 16 player platoon style chaotic bliss with the full backing of TriStar Pictures behind it, so you're getting the music, the memorable "Would you like to know more?" style of propaganda, and the 90's over-the-top "guns blazing" style of bug warfare.

though it's priceless to see lots of infantry flood in the scene. feels that going to battle hype.
plot wise, the bugs let them land smoothly so they can swarm the soldiers and circle them later.

I'm still irritated that the director essentially turned space marines (but without the augments) into the guard, they are supposed to be being fired out of tubes, while in one man capsules, while in full power armor.
Epic music though and the movie is good if you try to disconnect it from the book

I like to think it was a commentary on people being less expensive then military hardware.
The Japanese six part anime was adapted straight out of the book tho
Problem is that power armor wouldn't do anything. It only looks cool but thats it. Realistically Its heavy and slow, it would ran out of ammo soon and up close its useless anyway cause Arachnids from the movies are so strong they can tear off your limbs even in armor (shown in ST: Invasion for example). So the mobile infantry from movie actually makes sense. First send airstrike and then infantry do the cleaning with portable nuke launchers (just like shown in the first movie). They only need more powerful/armor piercing ammo. I like the huge Marauder suits from Starship Troopers 3 thou. They would make a great support vehicle. I cant wait for the Terran Command game :)
