I would choose pixel over and over again. Design fetish fades in a week. Being able to do more is what's truly important. Seriously, you can't even put your icons where you want? It's 2018. Android can do that for 9 years.

Went from blackberry to ios since the iPhone 4 and havent changed since. Tried a note last year and a galaxy the year before that .... ended up returning them. Ill check out the mate tho.
Mario Sandoval mate 10s software is similar to iphones. But it is so ugly in my opinion, after using stock android ony pixel 2 xl, I can go back. Everything else feels slow lol
The iPhone X User. Have you ever used a stock android phone? Samsungs UI is getting better and I understand that it is way better than before but I always see lag in the software after a few months of use. I had the s6 and s7, both were laggy after only a few months.
Good thing is that we have multiple of choice and we can try it and use what we like. I use Android since it was 1.5 and progress is good. But as IOS android have it flaws. And there's no reason to hate something just use what you like and enjoy in it like I do in split screen 😋😁
Having used both, I can safely say the Pixel is by far the better phone. It may not have all the party tricks like a Samsung but it also doesn't have lag at all. Plus battery life is amazing.

Gabilleta I have not. I have a 6P with Android 8.1 installed which has near identical operation as any Pixel except the squeeze to initiate Google Assistant. My iPhone X is my current daily driver. I don’t doubt that the Pixel 2XL is the smoothest, least laggiest Android around. That is not a high bar to pass. But you never answered my question as to why the Pixel 2XL is by far the better phone for you.
Phone Fanatic The 6P is a great phone, no doubts, but it doesn't hold a candle to the Pixel, even the 1st gen. Here's a quick story that happened to me not long ago. I was out on a date, fancy restaurant, having a good time, she wanted to take a couple of selfies with her new iPhone X but the pictures kept coming out too dark for her liking. She knows I'm a tech guy, I carry 2-4 phones with me all the time, so she asked me to let her use one of them. I handed her the first phone I pulled out, my Note8 cause I wanted to look like a boss, but the pictures were still too dark or grainy. Now I'm looking like an idiot, so I told her "here babe, use this one" and I handed her the Pixel. She didn't even knew what phone it was. The first selfie she took with it was the one she ended up keeping. She ended up using my Pixel for the rest of the night to take pictures, videos, calls (She put her Sim card in it), etc. By the end of the night when she had to give the phone back, she was wanting to keep it because, and I quote, "My phone just doesn't last this long or take pictures this good". She's a hardcore Apple user, heavily invested in their ecosystem and she was willing to jump ship. It's not that the phone have a bunch of party tricks, gimmicks, flashy hardware, etc. The phone just works 100% of the time, every day, all day no lag. Plus the cameras are amazing.
Gabilleta Pixel camera has surpassed every smartphone camera for last 2 generations. The Pixel 2XL still camera is better than iPhone X. If that’s your main reason why, I understand. The last part about it working 100% without any party tricks and gimmicks sounds like you’re comparing a Pixel to a Samsung device. An iPhone epitomizes what you said there about it “just working”.

Apple has the best computers and no one can make me believe otherwise. But their phones, meh. LG sucks at phones, but TVs,(appliances as well until Samsung dominated it,) you done fucked up. Yes, for me notch is bad way of solving the problem, not innovative at all. App developers have to use whatever is available to their advantage, it does not make the notch a good thing. it is a bad design in my view. But that is me. There may be people who like the notch as well. For me it is a deal breaker.

Well, i personally won't give the win to Pixel 2 xl just coz if the notch, it's annoying buy it's not that much of a bothering in portrait mode and secondly it's their first gen design we can give then more time to refine this design. But i think the reason Pixel 2 XL wins for me is the really thoughtful implementation of software features by Google, iOS is great but longer the well designed and intuitive OS it used to be. Pixel is just as smooth and takes good advantages of Android features quite well. I do tech related videos in a different style. If possible kindly do give my channel a look.
After using 3 iPhones as well as the best of Motorola, Samsung, and LG, I was always left wondering what experiences I was missing by picking what I did . I have always felt as if I had been using someone else's ideal phone, and there was a feeling of my phone being more like a step-child than belonging to me. All that changed when I turned on the Pixel 2XL. It's amazing how the phone feels like it knows me. It feels like I am at home, like I have finally found love.

Capperboy 600 all led screens have tint. Hard to throw stones when you're using 1 of Samsungs lol. And some of them had lines running down them and stopped working in cold weather. And the white and white and black pixels have the metal feel, not coated. Nothing man made is perfect

I have both and feel EXACTLY the same. The Pixel has much more fluid and enjoyable software (iOS 11 is hot garbage) and the camera software is simply amazing. However, I LOVE my Apple Watch 3 and do enjoy the smaller form factor overall of the X. Both are GREAT phones, but the Pixel 2 XL just feels better overall because of the software.
I’m missing something with the Pixel 2. I have just got one and I’m struggling having the user experience that a lot of you are having. It’s mainly picky things that are annoying me but I keep looking at my iPhone 8 Plus sat there and it’s still looking the preferred phone to me.
Sean Thearle iPhone 8 Plus is a great phone as well. You may be missing iMessage like 95% of iOS users that make the switch, which is definitely understandable. I use mine side by side (one for a business line and the other for personal use), so I don’t really miss much from either. While my iPhone X has been decent overall, I enjoy my Apple Watch with it, and like the one-handed form factor, I find iOS 11 to just be a train wreck. Although Jaime said that it does not, my X lags, stutters, apps constantly crash, and the phone locks up a lot while I’m typing - it just feels like nothing is optimized. I also take issue with a lot of simple things that you should be able to do on a modern smartphone that you simply can’t do in an intuitive way on iOS.
Antone Johnson it's not iMessage that I'm missing. I'm a heavy WhatsApp user. I guess I like the uniformity of iOS. It must be the OCD in me but I get frustrated seeing a screen with different shaped icons on there. I like the circular of Oreo but then suddenly there are sharp angular square icons dotted around. I'm uneasy too with the openess of Android. Being able to have so much access to system information (files/folders etc) I get frustrated with files/folders being left behind once you delete an android app. I like the Pixel both design wise and build quality. Im just frustrated not knowing why I'm not liking it as much as I should
Sean Thearle I hear ya. iOS is definitely an elegant, uniform OS. You just have to use the one that makes you happiest. I like them both A LOT, but have been a little perplexed by how poor the performance is on my X, considering the price tag and just how powerful the chip inside this phone is. I hope you are soon able to begin enjoying and appreciating your Pixel. If not, the good thing is you have your good ol’ trusty 8 Plus to fall back on.
I use both iOS and android and believe, both have their respective advantages. I use the 6s 128 gb and the oneplus 5 64 gb. Granted, these two are not the latest and greatest, but I cannot afford the X or the pixel 2. Here’s my two cents as a regular consumer. I was predominantly an iPhone user, because somehow I felt that it fit my bill. Last week, I had given my 6s for its battery replacement and I was forced to use the oneplus as my primary phone. There was some adjustment issues in the first day, but after that, it was just perfect. I agree with a lot of points mentioned in this video. Battery management takes the cake here. I would constantly get 7-8 hours of screen on time on my oneplus. Android Oreo is lot more refined and very intuitive in my opinion. One main shortfall (for me) was the google assistant. It wouldn’t recognise my voice commands properly and would struggle to perform even basic system tasks like reading my messages, playing songs on my playlist and so on. It wouldn’t read my WhatsApp messages! Siri performs far more better in these regards. It recognises my thick Indian accent much better. Now that I’ve got my 6s with a new battery, I have been using it ever since. Let me tell you, I feel android is more suited for my day to day needs. Now I’m not saying that iOS is terrible, but I’ve started to feel that you get more out of android for the same money. I love both iOS and android, but if you would ask what I’d use on a daily basis, I’d say android. I’m not going to sell either of my devices (I love them both), but I’ll relegate the Iphone as my secondary phone now.
Yeah there is good reason two I much prefer Android, Android is semi open source therefore development from source's other than Google are available, unlike ios only getting development from apple,

Nirujan Gunathasan he's not wrong, be honest, where do you think most of Apple's software inspirations come from? You Can Thank Android for that. Ease of use is also better on android. Universal explorer and file share system that doesn't require iTunes in ANY circumstances. Much More Toggles and varying usages. Notifications are organized and don't clutter the lock screen, etc. List Goes On.

The idea that iOS is better hasn't been true for at least 2 or 3 years. Android is better. Ironically the capabilities that modern Android has, and mentioned here, such as split window multi tasking and others too didn't come from Google, but from HTC, Samsung and other OEMs. Google have actually been following in the footsteps of others to improve Android. That's NOT a criticism of Google, quite the opposite, as the open source nature of Android has allowed it to surpass iOS considerably. A personal example of how great Android is, I work with a consulting engineering firm and we were able to develop our own in-house engineering applications to be used on our Note8 devices for schematics and pipeline routing. That is totally impossible on iOS. Android is a business OS, that can be tailored as much as you need to suit, not just with publicly available apps but with sideloaded tailored solutions too. İOS is a very simple leisure based OS but there are people who want that too.
Brian M finally someone who knows the history and gets it. I feel like for some reason the UA-cam tech community well most of them are super biased for the pixel 2 and stock Android. I have a pixel 2 but my Sim lives in my note 8 most the time. Yes the camera on the pixel is unbeatable but besides that and fast updates what makes the pixel the end all be all? Stock Android can be boring for some it's almost like the iPhone of the Android world and not everybody wants that. I feel like the note 8 is really the best Android phone at the moment but it's getting severely overshadowed (not in sales) by the pixel 2 because of the camera

As regards sales you're dead right, they only sold about 2 million of the first generation Pixels and probably less of the Pixel 2 due to the bad publicity it received, which was a terrible pity as it has a great camera.. Unfortunately they forgot about the rest of the phone when it came to quality control and it might have been better to use a Samsung Amoled on the 2 XL. I think that Google will get it right this year with the Pixel 3. But definitely stock was boring but it's getting closer to the improved versions on some OEM devices.
Pixel for the win I love this phone (typed this on my pixel 2 xl) I just miss the headphone jack and have some display issues with my unit other than that this phone for me is the the current best hands down!
I have both for work pixel 2xl and the iPhone X and as a device for daily use the pixel is far superior especially with that camera and the software at least on pixels is great smooth no lag so pixel wins however the ecosystem the apple has is unbeatable yet. I mean sending messages to your friends from your laptop or Mac is better and all your pictures and contacts are there no matter what device you use.

I have a OnePlus 5, and just bought a pixel 2 xl. for the most part I have not been that impressed. I don't feel like the camera is all that better. not even in low light. maybe on Xtreme low light. like in low light the pixel 2 xl's pictures don't look great. they just suck less. software experience is largely the same. my headphones are now useless if I don't carry the adaptor. the screen is not as bright. the battery life isn't as good either. my OnePlus will give me 8 hours so daily. 10+ hours if i don't use network too much (like watching movies). think the OnePlus 5t is a better option unless you really care about front facing speakers or take a lot of photos going out at night time.

Apple is not pointing guns at people's head to forced them to buy iPhones, they buy them because they want to. Nobody cares about what phone you want me to buy, I buy what I like and what works for me.
Both phones are phenomenal, but the X wins it for me. Talk all you want about the 2XL but most consumers already moved on from Pixels Displaygate fallout. Great effort Pixel but the X wins both in sales and perception this round. See you next year!
PIxel 2 XL! Android has evolved since the very first rendition of the OS. I'll always pick an Android over iOS. I tried using an iPhone 6s for a week and hated it. I need my customization without having to in easy terms. ( hacking it) my launcher settings on my One Plus 3 easily was moved over to my Pixel 2 XL.
Anybody else tired of mobile reviews graded on a curve? An 'A' effort iPhone gets rounded down to a 'B', and a relatively uninspiring 'B-' Pixel gets rounded to an 'A+'. The iPhone CPU and GPU are both 200% faster than the Pixel (Geekbench). That is a huge margin! Displaymate rates iPhone X as the highest rated screen ever for color accuracy, highest brightness ever (50% brighter than the Pixel 2), highest contrast ratio ever, and lowest screen reflectance ever... and *way* less blue angle casting. And DxOMark rates the iPhone camera the best stills from any phone.
It's nice to see a phone reviewer actually review the phone feature of the smartphone. Not even mkbhd reviews the call quality in his smartPHONE reviews.
Just a correction: The Pixel's camera does not do portrait mode in software only. Split pixels on the sensor allow it to have a degree of parallax despite the single lens.
Raveen Bikha i also prefer android over ios, i just can do everything on my phone, flash custom roms, kernels, it just makes me feel that i really own my phone. But when i compare two phones i try to be objective and forget about the system part, and here i really don't see anything that will make me chose iphoneX over the pixel2, after all what's most important for me is stability, camera and battery life, and in these 3 segments the pixel is a clear winner.
Raveen Bikha i know that pixel isn't the best phone out there when it comes to battery life, but comparing it with the X, i'd say that the pixel is better, and for stability, both phones got a lot of problems since their first day but now the pixel is really stable, and the x is still suffering from problemes like the inability to answer calls...
I like how when he talks about battery performance he shows an iphone battery screen that says 17% battery used by youtube as his top drain source while on the pixel it shows 12% launcher and 4% youtube as next highest category. So his battery life was worse on the iphone because he watched more youtube videos on it than the pixel. Streaming videos will eat more battery than swiping through screens and viewing your app launcher...this really just tells me that if I watch more videos than look at app screens my battery will drain faster.
And you missed one of the favorite features on pixel or any Android, Google Rewards which gives you digital money for your Google play, or music, books or movies! That's something great compared to just spend money at anything from Apple
This dilemma is never a problem when you just buy both eco systems and believe me, you won’t miss both alternatively versus buying only one eco system. I still have the 6s and Nexus 6p, superb combo.

Snapchat and other social media apps on Android use a mirror of the phone's camera app where the iOS counterpart actually has code that can access the hardware. Think of it as taking a screenshot of your viewfinder as opposed to actually pressing the shutter button. This is mainly because Apple's hardware is very specific and not as diverse as Android devices, which have literally millions of combinations.
That's fine and dandy except there are far more and greater aspects and variables when it comes to software than just having the latest number or how many you get. If their updates were as stable and optimized as they themselves as well as their users claimed then you wouldn't have iOS 9 and getting worse up to 11 issues. Or need so many bug fixes again again within all the months of their release. And just because it gets updates longer doesn't mean much either. Especially when most of the features you are getting already exists within android. Sometimes from their release not including any updates. Especially again when they are so buggy and have already been proven to slow down older iPhone's. Without the cpu slow down thing even included. Between the buggy software and the low ram count and small batteries it takes a toll on the iPhone. And apple knows this very well and counts on it. Yet everyone buys right into it no matter how much people try to shed light in the truth. Yes oems should update more. But when they have as many devices and features it requires more time and money. And they tend to work a lot better. So if they spend more time and money for features, releasing, and optimising. ...then where is your extra money spent on apple for quality and optimising going except their pockets? ? And with a medium to good android you're still getting at least 2 major upgrades with plenty of security patches to follow. Galaxy Note 4's software even on android 6.0 is far more overall advanced and user friendly. And it still gets security patches. And only the x has a better display and not by much. Their is more in the world and in software in general then who gets more updates or is on the latest one. Quality over quantity. Just stating some facts and reality

How many Android are there walking around with phones filled with security holes because they stop getting patches after two years? It ain't happening on an iPhone.

Again. Security patch updates. They happen a lot. And well past their final OS update. Apple are no more a security expert team then a software one. And even on the best end of things that's the most you would be lucky to get that from the update at that point. Again more to software than just an update.

As a long time iPhone user I had every single iPhone since it came out. iPhone X had nothing new to offer, besides it's crazy price. So I decided to give Android a go. The only phone I could choose was the Pixel, since I was aware, that with anything else I wouldn't get software updates. Pixel 2XL and Android blew me away. They are both so much better than iPhone and iOS, it's not even fair to compare.
You are wrong , there is nothing surprising as you said at the beginning , unfortunately everyone and their mothers know that iphones are not what they used to be , no more intuitive bug free and solid OS, they lag big time now and almost everyone that understands tech and is not buying them just for fashion , buys them because they are locked in the eco system by either watch or mac or whatever other gadget... this is SAD , and I can admit I envy pixel users cause they got the quality this time , while I got something just because I have other toys that works only with it :( PS: By lag I'm not talking that the device lags but the OS compared to stock android these days. Small but impacting things like grouped notifications , customizable screen that let me put my icons where I want them to be , widgets on screen , true dark mode and many more useful things. Ios is no longer good OS , not only it is trash since ios 11 but it feels like it lacks a lot of things for 2018 :S
My biggest issue with the Google phones vs iphones is the fact that there no such a thing :Google shop which you can physically go and receive services for your product so if there is an issue with your phone it's going to be a mess.
iPhone X all the way for me. I’ve used both many times and will always come back to iOS over android. Who cares if you can shift an app to one side and swipe from the bottom for an app drawer. Apple has customised its OS so we’ll over the last few years. It does everything you will ever need, extremely well. Whereas android phones do a lot of things, okay. I think of android as jack of all trades, master of none. Come back to me when you see a line waiting for a google phone or Samsung :)

Samsung Galaxy Note 8! For me is def the best phone in the market right now hands down but that doesnt mean it's flawless. Firstly, I'd like Samsung to stop treating the Note series as a fashion statement like Apple does with iPhones. I really like it but I'm not head over heels like I was with my Note 4 from day one. Firstly, I would have liked it 2-3mmm wider for better content consumption (still a little bit too narrow for my liking). Secondly, with a bigger battery 4000mAh or plus. And thirdly, predictive text is not as good as in previous Samsung's devices. I had Note 4 for almost 3 years before upgrading to Note 8 in October but I also had the first J5, I have the tab S 8.4 and I bought a Note 5 in December. Predictive text in all those Samsung's devices have been super but not great on Note 8 and I have no fucking idea why.

Jaime, the Pixel 2 got an update yesterday which activated a visual core for third party apps like Snapchat and instragram. So it shouldn’t be as bad anymore as android phones usually are sharing photos on third party apps. Can you do a video on the update to see if it makes a difference?

It's funny calling picking the Pixel 2 XL a surprise. It seems like it's always open season on Apple and its products and most reviewers have been offering the same sort of 'surprises'. Having owned the Nexus 5X (and loving it), I see why anyone would choose the pure Google experience over any other Android phone. After all, why wouldn't anyone want to have updates available immediately upon release. With that said, the iPhone X brings unmatched technology, a far superior display and a much more invigorating user experience. As good as the Pixel phones are, they're behind the times when compared to Apple's latest flagship device

The iPhone X User. Have you ever used a stock android phone? Samsungs UI is getting better and I understand that it is way better than before but I always see lag in the software after a few months of use. I had the s6 and s7, both were laggy after only a few months.
Good thing is that we have multiple of choice and we can try it and use what we like. I use Android since it was 1.5 and progress is good. But as IOS android have it flaws. And there's no reason to hate something just use what you like and enjoy in it like I do in split screen 😋😁

I was out on a date, fancy restaurant, having a good time, she wanted to take a couple of selfies with her new iPhone X but the pictures kept coming out too dark for her liking. She knows I'm a tech guy, I carry 2-4 phones with me all the time, so she asked me to let her use one of them. I handed her the first phone I pulled out, my Note8 cause I wanted to look like a boss, but the pictures were still too dark or grainy. Now I'm looking like an idiot, so I told her "here babe, use this one" and I handed her the Pixel. She didn't even knew what phone it was. The first selfie she took with it was the one she ended up keeping. She ended up using my Pixel for the rest of the night to take pictures, videos, calls (She put her Sim card in it), etc. By the end of the night when she had to give the phone back, she was wanting to keep it because, and I quote, "My phone just doesn't last this long or take pictures this good". She's a hardcore Apple user, heavily invested in their ecosystem and she was willing to jump ship.
It's not that the phone have a bunch of party tricks, gimmicks, flashy hardware, etc. The phone just works 100% of the time, every day, all day no lag. Plus the cameras are amazing.

Well, i personally won't give the win to Pixel 2 xl just coz if the notch, it's annoying buy it's not that much of a bothering in portrait mode and secondly it's their first gen design we can give then more time to refine this design. But i think the reason Pixel 2 XL wins for me is the really thoughtful implementation of software features by Google, iOS is great but longer the well designed and intuitive OS it used to be. Pixel is just as smooth and takes good advantages of Android features quite well.

Capperboy 600 all led screens have tint. Hard to throw stones when you're using 1 of Samsungs lol. And some of them had lines running down them and stopped working in cold weather. And the white and white and black pixels have the metal feel, not coated. Nothing man made is perfect

I have both and feel EXACTLY the same. The Pixel has much more fluid and enjoyable software (iOS 11 is hot garbage) and the camera software is simply amazing. However, I LOVE my Apple Watch 3 and do enjoy the smaller form factor overall of the X. Both are GREAT phones, but the Pixel 2 XL just feels better overall because of the software.

I’m missing something with the Pixel 2. I have just got one and I’m struggling having the user experience that a lot of you are having. It’s mainly picky things that are annoying me but I keep looking at my iPhone 8 Plus sat there and it’s still looking the preferred phone to me.
Sean Thearle iPhone 8 Plus is a great phone as well. You may be missing iMessage like 95% of iOS users that make the switch, which is definitely understandable. I use mine side by side (one for a business line and the other for personal use), so I don’t really miss much from either. While my iPhone X has been decent overall, I enjoy my Apple Watch with it, and like the one-handed form factor, I find iOS 11 to just be a train wreck. Although Jaime said that it does not, my X lags, stutters, apps constantly crash, and the phone locks up a lot while I’m typing - it just feels like nothing is optimized. I also take issue with a lot of simple things that you should be able to do on a modern smartphone that you simply can’t do in an intuitive way on iOS.
Antone Johnson it's not iMessage that I'm missing. I'm a heavy WhatsApp user. I guess I like the uniformity of iOS. It must be the OCD in me but I get frustrated seeing a screen with different shaped icons on there. I like the circular of Oreo but then suddenly there are sharp angular square icons dotted around. I'm uneasy too with the openess of Android. Being able to have so much access to system information (files/folders etc) I get frustrated with files/folders being left behind once you delete an android app. I like the Pixel both design wise and build quality. Im just frustrated not knowing why I'm not liking it as much as I should
Sean Thearle I hear ya. iOS is definitely an elegant, uniform OS. You just have to use the one that makes you happiest. I like them both A LOT, but have been a little perplexed by how poor the performance is on my X, considering the price tag and just how powerful the chip inside this phone is. I hope you are soon able to begin enjoying and appreciating your Pixel. If not, the good thing is you have your good ol’ trusty 8 Plus to fall back on.

I just switched from iPhoneX to Pixel 2 and totally understand what you meant.
I use both iOS and android and believe, both have their respective advantages. I use the 6s 128 gb and the oneplus 5 64 gb. Granted, these two are not the latest and greatest, but I cannot afford the X or the pixel 2. Here’s my two cents as a regular consumer.
I was predominantly an iPhone user, because somehow I felt that it fit my bill. Last week, I had given my 6s for its battery replacement and I was forced to use the oneplus as my primary phone. There was some adjustment issues in the first day, but after that, it was just perfect. I agree with a lot of points mentioned in this video. Battery management takes the cake here. I would constantly get 7-8 hours of screen on time on my oneplus. Android Oreo is lot more refined and very intuitive in my opinion. One main shortfall (for me) was the google assistant. It wouldn’t recognise my voice commands properly and would struggle to perform even basic system tasks like reading my messages, playing songs on my playlist and so on. It wouldn’t read my WhatsApp messages! Siri performs far more better in these regards. It recognises my thick Indian accent much better.
Now that I’ve got my 6s with a new battery, I have been using it ever since. Let me tell you, I feel android is more suited for my day to day needs. Now I’m not saying that iOS is terrible, but I’ve started to feel that you get more out of android for the same money.
I love both iOS and android, but if you would ask what I’d use on a daily basis, I’d say android.
I’m not going to sell either of my devices (I love them both), but I’ll relegate the Iphone as my secondary phone now.

Universal explorer and file share system that doesn't require iTunes in ANY circumstances. Much More Toggles and varying usages. The idea that iOS is better hasn't been true for at least 2 or 3 years. Android is better. Ironically the capabilities that modern Android has, and mentioned here, such as split window multi tasking and others too didn't come from Google, but from HTC, Samsung and other OEMs. Google have actually been following in the footsteps of others to improve Android. That's NOT a criticism of Google, quite the opposite, as the open source nature of Android has allowed it to surpass iOS considerably. A personal example of how great Android is, I work with a consulting engineering firm and we were able to develop our own in-house engineering applications to be used on our Note8 devices for schematics and pipeline routing. That is totally impossible on iOS. Android is a business OS, that can be tailored as much as you need to suit, not just with publicly available apps but with sideloaded tailored solutions too. İOS is a very simple leisure based OS but there are people who want that too.
Brian M finally someone who knows the history and gets it. I feel like for some reason the UA-cam tech community well most of them are super biased for the pixel 2 and stock Android. I have a pixel 2 but my Sim lives in my note 8 most the time. Yes the camera on the pixel is unbeatable but besides that and fast updates what makes the pixel the end all be all? Stock Android can be boring for some it's almost like the iPhone of the Android world and not everybody wants that. I feel like the note 8 is really the best Android phone at the moment but it's getting severely overshadowed (not in sales) by the pixel 2 because of the camera

As regards sales you're dead right, they only sold about 2 million of the first generation Pixels and probably less of the Pixel 2 due to the bad publicity it received, which was a terrible pity as it has a great camera.. Unfortunately they forgot about the rest of the phone when it came to quality control and it might have been better to use a Samsung Amoled on the 2 XL. I think that Google will get it right this year with the Pixel 3. But definitely stock was boring but it's getting closer to the improved versions on some OEM devices.

I have a OnePlus 5, and just bought a pixel 2 xl. for the most part I have not been that impressed. I don't feel like the camera is all that better. not even in low light. maybe on Xtreme low light. like in low light the pixel 2 xl's pictures don't look great. they just suck less. software experience is largely the same. my headphones are now useless if I don't carry the adaptor. the screen is not as bright. the battery life isn't as good either. my OnePlus will give me 8 hours so daily. 10+ hours if i don't use network too much (like watching movies).
think the OnePlus 5t is a better option unless you really care about front facing speakers or take a lot of photos going out at night time.

PIxel 2 XL! Android has evolved since the very first rendition of the OS. I'll always pick an Android over iOS. I tried using an iPhone 6s for a week and hated it. I need my customization without having to in easy terms. ( hacking it) my launcher settings on my One Plus 3 easily was moved over to my Pixel 2 XL.

I like how when he talks about battery performance he shows an iphone battery screen that says 17% battery used by youtube as his top drain source while on the pixel it shows 12% launcher and 4% youtube as next highest category. So his battery life was worse on the iphone because he watched more youtube videos on it than the pixel. Streaming videos will eat more battery than swiping through screens and viewing your app launcher...this really just tells me that if I watch more videos than look at app screens my battery will drain faster.
Watched on my Pixel 2 XL, and completely agree. I really enjoy using it, and all of the additional support and guaranteed updates just seals the deal.
And you missed one of the favorite features on pixel or any Android, Google Rewards which gives you digital money for your Google play, or music, books or movies! That's something great compared to just spend money at anything from Apple

Snapchat and other social media apps on Android use a mirror of the phone's camera app where the iOS counterpart actually has code that can access the hardware. Think of it as taking a screenshot of your viewfinder as opposed to actually pressing the shutter button. This is mainly because Apple's hardware is very specific and not as diverse as Android devices, which have literally millions of combinations.
Watching this on my 2XL. Love this device and a worthy follow up to the original Pixel from last year.
I am sticking with the iPhone not because I am a fanboy but because I like getting years of os support from the manufacturer.
That's fine and dandy except there are far more and greater aspects and variables when it comes to software than just having the latest number or how many you get.
If their updates were as stable and optimized as they themselves as well as their users claimed then you wouldn't have iOS 9 and getting worse up to 11 issues. Or need so many bug fixes again again within all the months of their release.
And just because it gets updates longer doesn't mean much either.
Especially when most of the features you are getting already exists within android. Sometimes from their release not including any updates.
Especially again when they are so buggy and have already been proven to slow down older iPhone's. Without the cpu slow down thing even included.
Between the buggy software and the low ram count and small batteries it takes a toll on the iPhone. And apple knows this very well and counts on it. Yet everyone buys right into it no matter how much people try to shed light in the truth.
Yes oems should update more. But when they have as many devices and features it requires more time and money. And they tend to work a lot better.
So if they spend more time and money for features, releasing, and optimising. ...then where is your extra money spent on apple for quality and optimising going except their pockets? ?
And with a medium to good android you're still getting at least 2 major upgrades with plenty of security patches to follow.
Galaxy Note 4's software even on android 6.0 is far more overall advanced and user friendly. And it still gets security patches.
And only the x has a better display and not by much.
Their is more in the world and in software in general then who gets more updates or is on the latest one.

As a long time iPhone user I had every single iPhone since it came out. iPhone X had nothing new to offer, besides it's crazy price. So I decided to give Android a go. The only phone I could choose was the Pixel, since I was aware, that with anything else I wouldn't get software updates. Pixel 2XL and Android blew me away. They are both so much better than iPhone and iOS, it's not even fair to compare.
You are wrong , there is nothing surprising as you said at the beginning , unfortunately everyone and their mothers know that iphones are not what they used to be , no more intuitive bug free and solid OS, they lag big time now and almost everyone that understands tech and is not buying them just for fashion , buys them because they are locked in the eco system by either watch or mac or whatever other gadget... this is SAD , and I can admit I envy pixel users cause they got the quality this time , while I got something just because I have other toys that works only with it :(
PS: By lag I'm not talking that the device lags but the OS compared to stock android these days. Small but impacting things like grouped notifications , customizable screen that let me put my icons where I want them to be , widgets on screen , true dark mode and many more useful things. Ios is no longer good OS , not only it is trash since ios 11 but it feels like it lacks a lot of things for 2018 :S

Android's flexability and handset choice options have always been a big reason for me to stay with Android since Galaxy S1
My biggest issue with the Google phones vs iphones is the fact that there no such a thing :Google shop which you can physically go and receive services for your product so if there is an issue with your phone it's going to be a mess.
iPhone X all the way for me. I’ve used both many times and will always come back to iOS over android. Who cares if you can shift an app to one side and swipe from the bottom for an app drawer. Apple has customised its OS so we’ll over the last few years. It does everything you will ever need, extremely well. Whereas android phones do a lot of things, okay. I think of android as jack of all trades, master of none. Come back to me when you see a line waiting for a google phone or Samsung :)

Samsung Galaxy Note 8! For me is def the best phone in the market right now hands down but that doesnt mean it's flawless. Firstly, I'd like Samsung to stop treating the Note series as a fashion statement like Apple does with iPhones. I really like it but I'm not head over heels like I was with my Note 4 from day one. Firstly, I would have liked it 2-3mmm wider for better content consumption (still a little bit too narrow for my liking). Secondly, with a bigger battery 4000mAh or plus. And thirdly, predictive text is not as good as in previous Samsung's devices. I had Note 4 for almost 3 years before upgrading to Note 8 in October but I also had the first J5, I have the tab S 8.4 and I bought a Note 5 in December. Predictive text in all those Samsung's devices have been super but not great on Note 8 and I have no fucking idea why.

Jaime, the Pixel 2 got an update yesterday which activated a visual core for third party apps like Snapchat and instragram. So it shouldn’t be as bad anymore as android phones usually are sharing photos on third party apps. Can you do a video on the update to see if it makes a difference?

Try Daydream out or Steam VR on the Pixel 2 XL. Oh, wait you can't try VR out. Apple officially doesn't support it, plus the notch cutout ensures you cannot use the iPhone X for VR. For that matter AR headsets don't work with the iPhone X. Such a useless notch.

It's funny calling picking the Pixel 2 XL a surprise. It seems like it's always open season on Apple and its products and most reviewers have been offering the same sort of 'surprises'. Having owned the Nexus 5X (and loving it), I see why anyone would choose the pure Google experience over any other Android phone. After all, why wouldn't anyone want to have updates available immediately upon release. With that said, the iPhone X brings unmatched technology, a far superior display and a much more invigorating user experience. As good as the Pixel phones are, they're behind the times when compared to Apple's latest flagship device
