Civic Sun Visor Fix for about $5

  • How to fix the sun visors in your civic. From the factory, the sun visors will separate in warm weather, leaving them to fall into your field of vision.
Honda will replace them a few times, but eventually will want you to pay for new ones. No matter what you do, they will always break again, unless you do something like this!

Thanks for that, worked like a charm, and I painted the ends to match
the sunvisor colour. The post screws are also known as Chicago screws
and are available from art supply outlets, 15mm or 5/8 inch, $1 each.

This fix also works using two screws on each side, but three is probably better. I did this using two a few years ago and it’s still holding.

This worked awesome, and saved $70. Thank you! I did like you did the second time around and made a straight line with the middle one being directly in the middle of that clip (or below.. not sure). Works great. I used 3/16th x 1/2 inch long binding posts instead of 5/8 because that's all Home Depot had, but they were great. Possibly tighter, too, being 1/8 shorter than the 5/8

I believe this happens more from use over time, as opposed to the heat. Otherwise, both sides would break down equally.

Thanks for sharing. I just fixed mine with your method.
Honda replaced them once under a recall and lasted 6 months. Went back and they want $120 each.
Got some aftermarket for $25 each and were horrible.
I put 3 on each side for $6 at Lowes and worked again.
    Hope they last long time.

This is the EXACT issue I have with my 08. Haven't had a sunvisor problem up to this point but sure enough in the hot australian summer the visor has just come apart.

We did. And they broke again, less than a year later. I wasn’t going to pay $100 each for a new sunvisor, so it could break again less than a year later, again!
You are welcome to, however, if you so choose!

GREAT SOLUTION!! 2008 Honda Civic. I tried a slight variation of this on my floppy driver's side visor, and it looks like it will solve the problem. I used two of the 5/8" binding post screws specified here. The visor's swivel post seems to penetrate the visor at a slight angle. So, I drilled two 7/32" holes as close to the swivel post as I deemed safe, toward the driver's edge of the visor, on each side of the edge seam variation in the area of the mystical metal clip. I really tightened down the screws, reinstalled the visor, and for now, it operates great. My visor wasn't apparently warped, cracked, or otherwise visibly damaged. Removing and replacing the visor was easy. I considered the cheap visors available online, and the expensive Honda OEM visor. However, with all the negative reviews, I figured spending less than $2 would be a good first, and hopefully final step. Thanks for the great video!

That holds it up only. It doesn't allow you to use it to shade the sun. Mine already had velcro on it to hold it up when I bought the car. But when I need to use it, it flops down too much and blocks my mirror.
