This was the best Christmas gift i could have gotten. I just found this channel and im hooked. Ive always loves Star Trek and you add Dave, Nath and Rob to the mix youve got pure perfection. Thanks guys for this awesome surprise. Looking forward to going through all your backlog of videos . Take care fellas and Merry Christmas 🎄🎁
I never thought I'd be interested in a podcast talking about old Star Trek films tbh, but, as always, The Terrible Trio make it into something fun and interesting. Hooked after 1 episode. Looking forward to the series!
Dave, Nath and Rob talking sci-fi? Yes please. Good work chaps, love it. I went for a job with your company a long, long time ago and lost out - probably to Rob himself, if my calculations of his age and mine are accurate. Much as I would have liked to be part of the team, I'm still a big fan of all you do. Keep it up.
Finally a worthy YT recommendation! I've really missed the "Before We Go" section on the Access Podcast so I'm looking forward to watching and listening to these along with you guys (Well... I'm behind, but you know what I mean) Also, I've always said Nath has the perfect voice for podcasting.
There is a person in the history of Star Trek who has been forgotten by mostly everybody: Lucille Ball. In the 60's, she and her husband Desi Arnaz owned a studio, Desilu Pictures, that were doing TV shows. She was the head of the studio, and she was the one who greenlit the series after Roddenberry had a lot of trouble trying to get anyone interested. She was a hardheaded businesswoman, but she realized the potential of an intelligent science fiction show, and decided to take the chance. If it weren't for Lucy, we would not have Star Trek and all its variations today. Yet another example of a woman who was instrumental in an event and whose memory got pushed aside in favor of the men who took the credit.
Playstation Access + Star Trek = Instant subscription. I haven't started listening yet, but I just wanted to post to say how excited I am. This is going to be great. Also, tut tut on Rob for never seeing any Star Trek before 😅. 🖖
Came across the podcast a few weeks ago on Spotify. Loved listening to Robs trek journey. Looking forward to this weeks Who watch. PS love seeing Nath back on Access. More one on onesie please.
ooh gonna love this podcast! I did a rewatch of the Star Trek movies a bit ago. I am curious as to Rob's thoughts on some of my not so favorite from the TOS crew. I plan on rewatching the TNG crew movies again but will do it alongside your posts. Very intrigued, especially since Rob picked one of the best Doctor Who episodes. I am glad he didn't go with an excellent, but obvious episode in "Blink".
Really interested to hear how the watching-along-with-the-pod is going? It feels like the full, luxury, best way to do it if you can, the details will just make more sense.
Great pod guys! Despite his protestations, Rob is very clearly into horror sci-fi. All the best sci-fi is rumination on the human condition though a lens of imagined (usually not so distant) tech. Interesting note from wiki: Russell T Davies has stated that "Midnight" was inspired by the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode "Darmok"
Ok so I'd love to see something with Rob and Dom Allen from No Rolls Barred! Both of you work with games, and both give off similar comedy vibes!!! You both are in Britain as well so.... 😊
I love the discussion about how each film is unique, I actually enjoy watching all of them even though there are some real critical duds. One film in particular is so not Star Trek, but really good fun, to put it simply I loved it as a kid, but as an adult not so much, but it's still a fun watch, I think that's enough description for people to guess which one I mean. One is also just totally rubbish, and I think people will also know which one I mean, though it's not unwatchable. I am also referring to the original series movies, not the Next Gen one's which if I'm honest are all duds really, just some less so than others.
Alien is the perfect organism, i mean movie. Prefer the theatrical over the directors cut, too. A novel where a character turns into a cartoon dog? What a Goofy, premise.
Yeah, but why the movies though? It's like saying you want to find out if he likes sandwiches and starting with a saltine and mustard sandwich. I don't know how old this pod is, but like Lower Decks is a WAY better intro to Star Trek than the movies.
So I clocked on this video thinking I'm going to listen/watch someone WATCH the movies and that literally never happened. What the clickbait shit is this??
I don't get how anyone can consider themselves a huge science fiction fan and have never seen anything Star Trek. Science fiction fan? Maybe. But not a huge science fiction fan. It's just too big of a gap. I'll give this a shot, but Rob has already lost a lot of cred with me. ... Wait? WHAT!?!? You're starting with the movies?!?!? NOOOOOOOOO! That's a terrible idea! You have _all_ lost a lot of cred with me. Now I just feel badly for Rob.
@@m00mba666 Never said I wouldn't listen to the podcast, just that I thought the way they were introducing Rob to Star Trek is a terrible way to go about it. The phrase I used , "I'll give this a shot", means that someone is going to try to do something or give something a chance. And after having listened to both this podcast and the one they released yesterday after they watched the first movie I feel like this is an okay podcast but not a great one. Help me out - what made it great for you?
Star Trek isn’t the be all and end all of science fiction, it’s good that we have lots of people with different tastes. For me, Star Wars was my introduction which lead me to Dune and then the Warhammer universe. Star Trek is good, but it’s not my kind of Sci-Fi for fun.
@@ManmadeChaos I'm not saying that the Trek franchise is the be all and end all of sci-fi anymore than the Stat Wars or Dr Who Franchises are. But for someone to be effectively unaware of any of these decades spanning franchises that have been massively influential on the sci-fi genre makes it difficult for me to think of someone as a "huge sci fi fan". I'm not even suggesting that someone needs to be a fan of all the different franchises, but to be a self-described huge sci-fi fan someone should be able to at least be conversant about the most influential television series and movies of the genre and maybe some of the books too, although I get that reading books isn't as common as it used to be so I wouldn't necessarily expect younger fans to have also read a bunch of Asimov or Heinlein. It would be like saying someone is a huge fan of comedy but never seen a Mel Brooks movie or huge fan of Western movies but they don't know who Clint Eastwood is.
@@DennisMoore664 I get your opinion and if that’s what you think then so be it. But it’s a form of Snobbery to think of a Sci-Fi fan being less of a fan just because they’ve never seen a certain franchise. To be honest, chances are I’d never of watched Star Trek if it wasn’t for a friend of mine that introduced me to it.

My favorite PS channel now talking about my favorite SciFi Series. Match made in Heaven! Well done Gents!! Well Done
Not a Star Trek Fan, but followed the Access Team for years.
Big fan of Film, so really excited to follow the guys through on this Pod.
How am I just now finding out this is a thing? I've been a subscriber to PS Access for years, but I have not heard them mention this.

WHAT!!! Yalll have a private podcast😮 I’m subscribing NOW!!!!
It's OK, it's quite new! You're early 🙏
Oh I’m here for this ❤
The episode Rob saw sounds like Obsession from TOS.
It sure is
That was the thought of my Trek fan mrs
I had no idea about this channel ... good work algorithm for guiding me here!
All hail the algorithm, all is forgiven!
Hey guys! Long time Access subscriber here 😁👍 Wholeheartedly, more of this please. Thoroughly enjoyable ❤️

Great shout, we (kinda) get into this in a later episode (nobody could remember much about Darmok)
Oh my god! I agree with Rob! My favourite Dr Who ep is Midnight! That was so good!
Followed very closely by Waters of Mars
@@ConstitutionNCC1700 agreed! That’s a brilliant EP too!
The middle age DLC.🤣 By the way for a big access fan and scifi fan who has never watched star trek, this is golden.

Speaking of sci-fi, and Rob's interest in Fantasy, is this a glimpse into the future careers of Rob, Dave, and Nath?
What, actual Redshirts? It's the kind of thing that would happen to us, somehow...
You can if you show him 2,3,4,6, and First Contact.
Wait, 3?
3?
😮
@RedshirtCinemaClub 3 is ok and you need it order for 4 to make sense.
Will you watch TOS???
You don't have to take this Rob, watch Babylon 5 instead just to spite them.
OMG. PS access boys are Trekkies?! I'm in. Engage!
Isn’t Cadet the lowest rank you can be in Star-fleet 🤔
If you're a cadet, then you're not in starfleet yet 😉

If you're totally brand new to Star Trek, "Lower Decks" can be sort of confusing if you don't understand the basic lore.
