    Recently replaced the seals on my newer model 397, the hardest part was those roll pins on the end cap. Then attaching the new piston seal , a process you don't show. I had to beat the hell out mine basically, it's built like a tank. Thankfully Crosman still carries all the parts and they carry over to the new models with the synthetic stocks. They've dicontinued the wooden stocks, so anyone with wooden is lucky.

      Ty, There is some seal stuff and other tips in some of the other videos, couldn't put it all in one, or even in the 'Streak from Hell' series. Sounds like your rebuild turned out ok in the end?

    • @tyfinn8738
      @tyfinn8738 4 роки тому

      @@NorthWestAirgun It did. I bought a roll pin punch set for the job. I wound up getting the piston seal onto the rod by hammering down upright from the other end, that burred the edges on that end a bit but used a fine file and got it smooth. I used pellegun oil, just to make it true to Benjamin's specs. Downloaded the parts schematic from the Crosman site so it was a pretty simple job. Would still like to know how you got your piston seal on the rod. Could you link the vid?

    Great Timing John, I was just starting to look at how to replace the seals on my dads Sheridan blue streak that I got from his estate. Luckily its not in bad shape and I don't think it has ever been apart. I'm so glad that there is a rebuild kit, can you provide a link to the Mac1 seal kit?

    • @NorthWestAirgun
      @NorthWestAirgun  6 років тому +1

      Hi Darrin, that's cool that you still have a family Streak. You'll need the valve tool, which you can get from Pyramid Air, Baker Airguns, and even eBay if you search for Sheridan valve tool. As far as kits, I recommend the Mac1 Airgun Shop kits, but there are others at the sites noted above. And take a look at our video on installing a single port valve, (the Sheridan valving is pretty much the same but without the single port issue), the valve polishing tool, and the ones about cleaning your parts. Take your time and don't push things and you should be ok. Let us know how it turns out.

    I'm gonna take a break and come back to this in a few days. I'm not sure you realize this but there are exactly ZERO vids on the issues with the valve alone. Sitting through 20 minutes of armature rivet installation, hoping you will eventually get around to the valve is killing me. The work you HAVE shown on the valve, specifically machining the inlet valve seat look great but give no helpful info for those without a lathe handy and really, doesn't help lathe owners either. Why is it so hard to get a straightforward look at the valves on these things? God help you all if I ever get a decent internet connection.

  • @markfletcher4964
    @markfletcher4964 2 роки тому

    I understand the concept and reason for wanting to compress the exhaust valve spring. My question is, did you do so because it was a new spring supplied with the reseal kit and was stiff? If it was the original factory spring, would you still have compressed it? I'm getting ready to reseal my Blue Streak and just wanted to know. Thanks

    • @NorthWestAirgun
      @NorthWestAirgun  2 роки тому

      Depends. The exhaust spring ideally will be strong enough to just hold the valve closed while you pump and get some pressure behind it, maybe even require that you cock the gun before pumping. But weak enough to not close the valve very fast, i.e., allow all the air to be dumped. Old springs might have lost a bit of strength, which would argue for re-use. So, if the kit comes with a new spring, it’s your choice to use it or not.

    enjoyed your videos. they are very detailed which is something I may need. I have an old Sheridan silver streak 5mm. when I tried to use it a couple of days ago, there was no pressure. since it seems to have happened rather suddenly, I did not think it was a lube problem. I did find an extra pellet which I must have done once there was no pressure. after many pumps, dry firing, as well as some live pellets, there is minimal pressure. not enough to kill a pesky ground squirrel, but at least it will exit the barrel. should I just try more lube and firing to see if it gets well? or is there a single part like an o ring or spring that is likely bad. I don't really want to put in all the labor for installing a rebuild kit like the one you installed. my experience is that there is usually a singular cause for most failures. this is an old air rifle from my youth and has little value other than pest control. I must not be a very good shot anymore because I miss about 80%of the time. at 75, my aim is not what it used to be.

    • @NorthWestAirgun
      @NorthWestAirgun  4 роки тому

      Well, be thankful for the 20% of shots that hit the mark, I guess. And cool that you still have it after all these years. Try this; open the cocking arm, and funnel a thimbleful of alcohol down into the hole in the bottom of the tube, just aft of the cocking lever slot. Then pump one pump and sit the gun in the corner, upright, overnight. Next morning, pump a few more times and shoot out what's in there. Pump and shoot several times. Then do whole procedure over again, another overnighter. You might have to do it several times. Probably gunk will get shot out, so clean the barrel before shooting pellets. Many people tell me it will clean out the valve and allow even old seals to hold air again. At least for a while. Post here if it works.

    I as confused as can be. I'm a 63 yr old lady. My grandpa raised me and he passed away in 1997 at the age of 93. He was "Dad" to me. I inherited his Sheridan that he told me he had as a young man. I knew how to fill it and pump and shoot. But a few years ago I did something totally stupid and don't know what the hell I can do about it. I filled it too much and something quickly came up, I had to sit it aside and forgot about shooting the thing. I had had it filled to the max and pumped as tight as I could get it. My plan had been to do some serious target shooting. Well, about 2 years go by, it's sitting in the corner of my bedroom. I pick it up and the wood part yu pump drops down into my hand. I had had it pumped tight, but tight it was no more. Something in there gave out and the shots still shut up in it. I was afraid to empty them out with all that tension I pumped into it that last time. This gun is my diamond. I'd never part with it because It's part of my family. Any ideas about what needs to be done? Thanks! J..... PS. No gun shops around here have any idea about air rifles like these so they just wish me good luck, Haha😫

      Also helps to center drill the rivet first, doesn't have to be all the way through, yes, from the keyed side. The problem is drilling in the center of the rivet, and not enlarging the hole. Here's a url that shows it;

    • @NorthWestAirgun
      @NorthWestAirgun  6 років тому +1

      Yes, you can check out the 'sold' auctions on eBay to get an idea of value. But Streaks in decent, working condition usually bring $125 or more. Cost to repair is $70 plus shipping, less if you shop around (cheapest in the Pacific Northwest is Ollie Damon in Portland). So yes, it is worth fixing. And, streaks are discontinued, so they ain't making any more of them. If you shoot much, it is a better gun than the pumpers available new today. If you want to sell, you can make a few bucks fixing it and then selling it. Or just sell as-is. There are plenty of people looking for Sheridan or Benjamin/Sheridan made streaks (before Crosman bought out the Benjamin/Sheridan brands), even if they have to have it repaired.
