John great video! I’m not doing anything with air guns at the moment, but I love the detail of your videos and seeing your shop. The music is pretty good too! Keep up the great work.
Thank you for your videos, you do know your stuff, I have that same gun with no problems at the moment, it would be nice to see and know what parts that you should always replace or the parts to watch for wear, when you make the video showing us what you are doing, Thanks again for your videos,
Great video, I've seen other videos where the single port valve has to be aligned for the valve to be in the right position. Now in the multi port valve does the valve just need to be simply installed?
@@NorthWestAirgun Thank you very much you have been very helpful this is only my second rebuild did an old crosman 760 XL deluxe powermaster. This one is a bit trickier!
I received the new kit for my sheridan pre 70 air rifle with springs pump cup stem and synthetic orings. When I put he orings in the valve and try to install it in the chamber it won't go in seems like the orings are too big because the valve doesn't go in no where close to where I can start the nut. But if I pull off the orings I can easily install the valve and tighten it all up with no problems. Wonder if I should try and find the original lead o rings?
@@jerryees Put the first 'oring' in place in the tube, without all the valve stuff, make sure it is seated all the way down on the step it sits on. Then try installing the valve again. If it still hangs up, then the outer seal is your culprit, and is likely getting hung up on the threads. Not really recommended, but you can lightly sand the outside edge and remove a small amount of material until that oring can just slip past the threads. Alternatively, sometimes a light tap on the valve tool as it gets hung up will push things down where they belong. Just don't get too frustrated, and keep patiently working on it.
@@NorthWestAirgun I'm going to end up looking for some rubber or lead orings my gun doesn't like the synthetic for some reason they sit too tight and I messed up the first one already trying to set it in.
I have a Benjamin Franklin CAL 22 MODEL 312. It has been in my family for at least fifty years. I used it about eight years ago and put it away with air in it. I just got it out again last week. It will not pump up. I took it apart, except for the valve, and cleaned it. Still no air. I need to rebuild it. Parts are easy to find. I have one problem though. I do not have the valve removal tool. I do have the tools and skills to make my own. I just need the dimensions to do so. Would anyone be able to help me out with this? Or loan me the tool?
I inherited a "Benjamin Franklin" model 710 that has been partially disassembled. I want to repair/rebuild it to working order where could I get illustrated diagrams for it?
I don't know Ron, the dimensions are pretty close (ua-cam.com/video/fANHrU0bQmo/v-deo.html) but you have to drill out the center to make room for the valve stem that sticks up thru the nut. I saw a post somewhere that a guy took an extension and filed it down to where it fit the nut.
Im in the process of taking apart me Benjamin 392P inherited from my dad. I have just the barrel and valve is stuck inside. I dont have the tools mentioned in your videos. Ive tried pumping it out, hammering it out, and it is not budging, any advice? What can I do?
Hey Jon, I got a rebuild kit for my 312 but ripped the replacement lead gasket that sits between the nut and valve would a rubber o ring work or does it need to be lead ?
Yeah, hate when that happens. Yes, try an o-ring, that seal is less important than the inner seal. I don't know what size. It may not last decades, but is the easiest to replace years from now.
Sorry, I don't. Some people claim that Birchwood Casey Brass Black works well, but I haven't had success using it myself. About the best I've been able to do is using Duracoat, but it is expensive and still not quite the same as original finish. There must be ways to electro-coat a black finish, but I don't know how a person could do it at home.
Jon does the best airgun tutorials on UA-cam. His calmness reminds me not to get frustrated and to take my time with these old Benjamins.
I'm blushing, but thanks. And you are right, patience is probably the most important part of this.

No need to align the multi port valve

Very good have got some on the crossman the older ones thanks they are more or less the same but their is diffences
Good video Jon! I was wondering if a socket with a 8mm square on the end of it would work for removing the brass valve? Stay healthy my friend!

Step away from the hammer and give me a few days, I'm not really available right now. I'll get back to you soon.
@@NorthWestAirgun great, I will put all the parts in a bag and wait for your responses

Hi John do you know if there is a good way to blacken the brass on the Benjamins and Sheridan's
