Roddy Piper vs Bret Hart sounds like one of those dream matches that you never thought would happened but in fact did and it was just as good as you thought it would be.
This is one of my all-time favorites matches in wrestling! The spot where piper lifts the bell, then stops and hears the audience's boos... That moment when he realizes he's becoming a villain and then proceeds to redeem himself... It's simply beautiful!
Bret was an artist and the ring his canvas! He painted many pictures and stories in the ring. He invented the figure four around the ring post, he was first in the wwf to go through a table and give it meaning, not like Sabu who breaks them for the sake of breaking a table. He brought the ladder match to the WWF. His finish to the Austin match at Mania 13 was brilliant. His entire night at King of the ring 1993 told stories over three matches! I honestly think he was the best at telling stories in the ring! Anyone who can't see it, knows nothing about story telling and in ring psychology! Oh and no one hits the turnbuckle like Bret!

Aged 8, Wrestlemania VIII was the first Wrestlemania AND WWF programming that I had ever watched. As I got a bit older, I realized that Wrestlemania VIII was the true and absolute end of the golden era.
Great subject! I was in the Hoosierdome for Piper vs. Bret. Both guys were great workers. Piper was one of the greatest heels ever, but for this match both guys were babyfaces. When the ref took a ref bump, Piper grabbed the ring bell and stood over a fallen Hitman. He could have made a huge heel move by blasting Hart with the bell. He ended up not doing it, keeping his babyface status but ultimately losing the match.
That pic at 20:45 really shows how much Piper's health had deteriorated by the end of his life. Hart looks to be around 4" taller than him, when in the 1980s, Piper was actually taller than Hart. Piper was a little over 6'0" tall as a young man and only about 5'8 to 5'9" by the end because of all his health issues.

Thank you for this one. This was (and still is) one of the greatest matches in WWF history, up there with the likes of Steamboat versus Macho Man. The Hot Rod was inimitable. There will never be a wrestler quite like him. Same can be said for The Hitman. This match is truly legendary, much like the icons involved.
What a match. And what a fitting, beautifully respectful video to pay tribute to two absolute icons who gave their bodies for our entertainment. Well done Wrestling Bios, another fantastic video. 👌

I'm about halfway through this one and i2 needed to stop and point out just how damn fascinating this is! Who could be guessed they had such a partnership? What EXCELLENT piece of wrestling history. Love it! Thank you!
Someone covered this match in a video about Professional Wrestling that I watched, it may have been EmpLemon or Super Eyepatch Wolf (Not here to advertise them) But they made a point how Roddy realized Bret was outdoing him and he had to play dirty, then he raised the bell to the cascade of booing that made him realize he shouldn't do it this way. So, he tossed it aside and fought the rest of the match as he should have. Was great storytelling. Glad you covered this match too, it's one I always want to see more on due to the story told in the ring!
You know, the way Piper and Bret respected and cared for each other is truly an awesome factor that made the match great. The last quotes from each one made me fight back a few tears from my eyes for a bit. Also, the narration by Gorilla and the Brain made it great, as usual. "To all of these people, they're both champions!" You should do a video of Savage v Flair next as a sequel. I feel that both matches are in contention for the best match of Wrestlemania VII.
6:26, That particular house show where Bret dropped the title to Rougeau was actually on January 17th in Springfield Massachusetts, The '92 Rumble was two days later on the 19th.

I was lucky enough to meet him a few years ago when he did a uk tour and couldn't get over how nice, humble, friendly and caring he was towards everyone. What a star...the term 'you dont get them like that anymore' is kind of a cliché nowadays but man, its so relevant were The Hot Rod is concerned
great video. There's no doubting the athleticism of today's wrestlers but I think matches like this show how important storytelling is and how much it's lacking in the current product.
Very well said from the heart. This is the best homage to 2 of the greatest performers of all time. Masters of ring psychology is right. No one would watch otherwise. With complete respect to the late great Brian Pillman, Roddy was the original loose cannon of pro wrestling. Even then, Bret knew enough to be wary of people in the business. It's an amazing feeling to know that you have a true friend who's got your back. Thank you for sharing details on how Roddy looked out for Bret. Hot Rod came into this world a tough man & left the same way. R.I.P. Roddy Toombs. R.I.P. Stu Hart
I was 10 years old and was there live (nosebleed seats, but still awesome). In hindsight it wasn't a great Wrestlemania (the main event of Hogan vs. Sid Justice pretty much sucked), but just being there as a kid was so cool. Ric Flair vs. Randy Savage was a great match as well, but Piper vs. Bret stole the show in my opinion. I was cheering for Piper and was happy that he didn't resort to using the ring bell as a weapon.

Such an amazing match, and that final quote from Piper got me a little choked up. RIP Hot Rod.
I have been enjoying this channel, and NOW I get my two favorite wrestlers from the classic WWF era ON MY BIRTHDAY! Happy birthday to me! Thanks!
Another home run analysis on an underrated great match.
I was big on Bret then and always but I liked Piper at the time too. After the match, I loved them both and now I understand why
Great job!
THE best channel on UA-cam. This was another outstanding look at an all time classic match. Well done mate.
One of the greatest IC title matches and one of the most underrated Wrestlemania matches. This is a classic that will only stand the test of time and never age. Peak storytelling, work rate, emotion, action, and blood during the Hogan era!!!! This is a master class of a match by two of the best of all time.
Hi WB this is j bop. Happy to contribute to any videos but especially this one so far. Great stuff
Whoever gives this or any of your videos a thumbs down are truly just negative people. The way you look at the topic and go beyond the surface is so well done. Best wrestling channel
My fingers are on fire from clicking too fast from your notification!! You rock Wrestling Bios!!
What a match. And what a fitting, beautifully respectful video to pay tribute to two absolute icons who gave their bodies for our entertainment. Well done Wrestling Bios, another fantastic video. 👌
Another excellent video by wrestling bios, really doing a great job in reviving legendary wrestling stuff.
Please make a video on Bret vs Owen Hart complete fued.
You sir, provide the best wrestling content on the tube.
You know, the way Piper and Bret respected and cared for each other is truly an awesome factor that made the match great. The last quotes from each one made me fight back a few tears from my eyes for a bit.
Also, the narration by Gorilla and the Brain made it great, as usual. "To all of these people, they're both champions!"
You should do a video of Savage v Flair next as a sequel. I feel that both matches are in contention for the best match of Wrestlemania VII.
Thank you for this. Well done. This match was pure poetry. Brett and Roddy were the authors and performers. Gorilla and Bobby were the narrators.
Best WreslingBios video ever. My favourite match in history. You nailed it.
THE BEST commentary of this match I've ever read or heard. Well done!
Piper and the Hitman. Two of my favorites together at last.
6:26, That particular house show where Bret dropped the title to Rougeau was actually on January 17th in Springfield Massachusetts, The '92 Rumble was two days later on the 19th.
Well that was a bloody great video! Thoroughly enjoyed that from start to end!
The Excellence of Execution vs The Hot Rod. I remember and love this match. Nice upload as usual. Thanks for all you do and for so many memories. ... J
I love seeing the fan in the Hot Rod shirt, behind the ring, freak out when Bret gets the pin.
Superb video!! and an amazing match with 2 absolute legends. I have to admit, that ending montage got me, and im sat here with tears in my eyes knowing Roddy's no longer with us 😔.
Roddy Piper vs Bret Hart an Underrated Match imo
great video. There's no doubting the athleticism of today's wrestlers but I think matches like this show how important storytelling is and how much it's lacking in the current product.
I'm slowly getting through these matches you talk about and enjoying your commentary afterwards. Keep up the good work.
R.I.P. Stu Hart
Every single member of all petite wrestling should watch THIS VIDEO. Promo, psychology, and finish. Excellent video brother.
One of my favorite Bret hart memories, defeating Piper and how Piper showed true class
wrestling bios i love your videos you have a great youtube channel one day can you talk about the rock vs hhh at backlash 2000
Another Sunday when I just kept looking at UA-cam to see when the video would upload. LOVE IT!
Amazing match, such a missed opportunity that it wasn't featured in the history of WM in WWE 2K14
IKR because Piper isn’t really in the game and that would’ve been the perfect spot for it and that match just seems like it would fit the cutscenes perfectly
