In mid 1991, Bret Hart began his path to become a megastar in the world of wrestling.
Bret had been part of the succesful Hart Foundation tag team before beginning his singles career, having won the WWF Tag Titles twice with Jim Neidhart before going solo. When it was time for Bret to work singles, he quickly became a huge fan favourite. The first stop on Bret's journey to become the best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be was at Summerslam 1991. Bret Hart wrestled Mr. Perfect for the IC title at this show, and it's well remembered today as one of the best Summerslam and IC title matches in history.
Bret would drop and regain the Intercontinental Championship in the months that followed, picking up the title in an excellent match against "Rowdy" Roddy Piper at WrestleMania 8. From here, Bret would lose the title to The British Bulldog at SummerSlam 1992, but even better things were in Bret's sights. A few months after Summerslam, Bret was able to win the WWF Championship from Ric Flair, the first of 5 world title reigns for Bret in the WWE.
Bret became a main event player as he went on to headline WrestleMania IX and WrestleMania X. During this period, Bret worked with his brother Owen, a feud that would win awards in wrestling publications thanks to how good the Bret vs Owen matches were. Bret would also have matches with Big Daddy Cool Diesel, Bob Backlund, The Undertaker and others on his journey, becoming one of the most recognizable and loved wrestlers of his generation.

@@themadrapper101 omg I remember seeing Bret turning heel in 1997 at wrestlemania 13 stomping on Austin. I knew right there he was going heel. I was like "NOOOOOO! BRET DONT STOOP TO HIS LEVEL. DUDE, DOONT!" I never as a kid fathomed myself being into a heel wrestler. But the next night when everyone booed him and he went heel.. I too said F*** it, I'm right behinf you Bret.

Thank you for continually supporting Bret, I met him once at signing. He was so nice and receptive to his fans. Everyone was pushy for his time, yet he was so nice and understanding. He's a true inspiration for working through Hogan's politics to being the World Champion. He put over Bob Backlund even when everyone thought he was crazy, and didn't deserve the rub. Bret's overall wrestling skills, there's bar none. In 97, bar none great mic skills. Bret's the best ever.
No mention of the amazing Waltmann vs Bret match from Raw 1994 in either this video, or the X-Pac video earlier. Everyone should definitely check that one out.

The first wrestling match I ever saw was Bret vs Mr Perfect from summerslam 91. I was hooked from that day on.
Fun fact about the Hart/Piper match:
During the match, Hart bladed which was a no-no at the time. After the match, Hart and Piper got into a fake fight backstage to fool the boys into thinking Piper punched Hart for real during the match, which caused Hart to bleed. Suffice to say, everyone was fooled, Hart and Piper kept on celebrating and Hart was not fined. However, later on the card during the Savage VS. Flair match, Flair was not as sneaky and was caught blading on camera, which resulted in him getting fined.

RC99 Productions Bret also suggested Austin bleed for their match in Wrestlemania 13 and even though it wasn’t allowed he asked Austin to trust him,he did it in a way you never see even to this day and even Austin confirmed that
Bret also came up with the idea for the finish in the Iron man match with Shawn at WM12. Bret fooled the boys into thinking he was genuinely pissed after the match when he exits the ring while Shawn celebrates. Bret even continued to act mad backstage and left in his car with his ring gear still on. Everyone believed the heat between Bret and Shawn started their but it was all planned.

This was my favorite era of wwf many people don't give it credit for how good the matches were. Yes alot of gimmicks didn't get over but Bret Shawn Owen Undertaker set the stage for the attitude era.
To me, Bret didn't really need to talk much. Those who say that his promo skills were a bit 'shaky' might be right, but he backed himself up in a big way with his attention to detail in the ring, where it mattered. Bret = BANK, all day long. There's a reason why he's in the WWE HOF, after all. o.o

I have to agree that Bret had many great matches as a singles wrestler that I can’t simply just say which was his very best. I remember Bret mentioning something to the effect of his trying to push wrestlers’ ring abilities rather than their character. All the times I’ve watched him wrestle, whether it was on TV or at a live event-definitely a thrill!-Bret never disappointed me. I voted for Bret and thanks for making this...excellently executed!

I've always thought they should have not announced it as an Iron Man Match and just have them go to an hour-draw (and then the overtime).

Bret dislocated his finger during the Ric Flair match. Its a blink and you'll miss it moment, but Bret gets kicked into the corner and immediately looks at his hand. A few moments later on the mat, he pops it back into place and opens and closes his digits a few times. The camera immediately cuts to Perfect who cringes at the sight of it.

The first time I saw Bret Hart wrestle was in the summer of 1988, in Calgary, in the Saddledome, during the Calgary Stampede, in a tag match with Jim 'The Anvil' Neidhart against The Killer Bee's... I was 15 and it was awesome!!!
I remember every single one of these matches, I've been a fan of Bret from the days of the Hart Foundation.... although I rooted against them as heels

One of the greatest honours was to have Bret sign my photo that I had taken with him and then sign my Hitman glasses. He then talked to me about the video where Warrior buries Hogan and how the Hulk is only out for the Hulk. It was amazing!!! I was late for the event and Bret allowed me to go to his dressing room on my own and meet him and have a photo and a short chat. The Hulk convo was later in the event and I was blown away by how cool Bret was.

Not really. Dynamite Kid was the one who broke that glass ceiling. And even then only in WWF because WWF was always the only wrestling promotion where "big guys" were the only ones allowed to be main-eventers or even mid-carders.
My gosh. KOTR 93 was literally the first wrestling event I ever saw. And from that moment on, Bret Hart was my hero. Good memories, thanks for all your work!

Very lucky to have met Bret Hart earlier this year. He asked me my favorite match, i told him too many to name, but him vs. Vince stands out as Vince said that's the end of the "Mr.McMahon character" to which Bret replied "Yeaa don't hold your breath. 😂

The “I Quit” match was pretty terrible, but it did generate one of my favorite bits of unintentional comedy in wrestling. When Bret gets Backlund in the chicken wing and Piper asks him if he quits, Backlund just yells “YAHHHHHHH! WHOA YAHHHHHHH! YAHHHHHHHHH!” but never actually says “I quit.”
I watched The Hart Foundation wrestle in 1985 at Arco Arena in Sacramento & again a year later at the Cow Palace in San Fransisco. Bret would always give his sunglasses to a random kid in the audience. Very cool.

I'm 100 percent positive that if Bill 2minute match Goldberg hadn't recklessly ended Bret's career he'd have (match quality wise) the greatest career of all time. The professional rivalry between HBK and The Hitman would have raised both of their games.

I remember as a kid the first time I really became a fan was November 22 Survivor Series 1990. (Also The Undertaker's official debut ) The match came down to Bret and the million dollar man. For a short battle it was hold for hold skill. And even thought Bret lost that match I kept thinking that guy can wrestle. (Side note after losing Bret mouthed the F-bomb, as a thirteen year old kid I always got a kick out of that)

Bret hart is one of the most underrated wrestlers yet he was tough, rugged and was not afraid to fight big men in wrestling i will rate bret hart up there with the likes of hogan, ultimate warrior he was the best of the best

There is no denying how good of a wrestler Bret Hart was. He could wrestle a slice of cheese and make it a five star match. Theres just so much negativity surrounding him when it comes to other wrestlers opinions. Sour grapes? Who knows there just seems to be to many stories. Once again a great vid my friend. Im loving these polls cos of the two you've done both times the wrestlers I voted for won. However Im still not seeing a Tito or Brain Buster vid in the making. Plz pal Ive been with you from the start. In the first 100 subscribers (54 if I remember right) will you grant me this one request plz. Your still the man. Oh by the way Im getting pissed off with other wrestling channels copying what your doing. I saw an interview one time where Scott hall said he was in brets house one time and stumbled into his bedroom and there was a giant portrait of Bret wearing his wrestling outfit with the belt around his waist painted on the ceiling directly above his bed. Talk about marking out for your own gimmick. Lol. I can actually picture this in my mind.

Do a video about Hogan in Japan. His matches there were some of the best of his career and many fans have never seen them/don't know they ever happened. Ones that stand out to me are against Akira Maeda and Genichiro Tenryu.
