One of the many masterpiece parodies of SCTV..made all the greater by the scenes shot on Yonge Street in downtown Toronto circa 1981. Never understand why this didn't win the People's Golden Global Choice Award...RIP Dr Tongue...y'all.

They even got Nilsson for the music. At least, I think it's him. Sounds like him, but then again, I really thought that was Pauline Kael. Inspired madness. Love it. Levy really has Hoffman's limp down. Candy is Joe Buck II. With a questionable accent. Lmao.👍😄

No one could do meta like SCTV. A 3D remake of Midnight Cowboy starring Count Floyd movie favorites Dr. Tongue and Woody Tobias Jr. in lead roles *followed by* a panel discussion of the film including New Yorker film critic “Pauline Kael?” Priceless.

What a great cast of talented comedic actors, Eugene Levy, Andrea Martin, Joe Flaherty, Catherine O'Hara, Rick Moranis and the amazing, late great, John Candy. 'He blowed up, real good'. exactly . when i was young i thought snl was the greatest . i even go back to the mid to late 70s when it started . but around 1980s i remember catching sctv repeats or current shows(can't remember) on the tv like in the wee hours(always been a night owl) . It blew me away , it was so weird cool, and satirical and funny as all hell . i stopped watching snl . I'm still pissed utube removed Litoninian Christmas with the Schmenge Brothers and "family members" . the christmas custom of men exchanging the socks they have on ; the giant cabbage roll , the staring at the xmas tree, and so on

That was a common thing on local stations at that time, people doing multiple jobs. In Chicago, Frazier Thomas was the host of afternoon kids show _Garfield Goose_ and Sunday's _Family Classics_ (films like _Heidi_ , _A Christmas Carol_ , &tc.). He later took over _Bozo's Circus_ when Ringmaster Ned retired.
SCTV skewered small town t.v. stations accurately.

Pauline Kael was an American film critic who wrote for The New Yorker from 1968 to 1991. Known for her "witty, biting, highly opinionated and sharply focused" reviews, Kael's opinions often ran contrary to those of her contemporaries.
