@@iscariot666 Me too. We used to watch them over and over again because we had the shows on VHS. I still remember most of it word for word 40 years later. Comedy gold? Comedy platinum!
Thanks generalBlasto, you're the best!!! Totally the most excellent Saturday late night show I must say of my childhood, had most of my friends hooked too 😄👍
Yes. I watched an episode of Family Ties on a flight a little while ago and couldn’t believe how poorly it’s aged. The SCTV stuff, by contrast, has only become better with time ! Eugene Levy playing Henry Kissinger 💯
Except for Kristen Wiig. Check out her "Liza Minelli Trying to Turn Off a Lamp" and her other brilliant performances. She could have easily been an SCTV cast member.
What made SCTV unique was they didn’t have producers breathing down their necks telling them what they could and couldn’t do.There were no network exec. talentless egos in the way.Shooting up in Edmonton,Alberta had its advantages in that they could let their talent run wild and do whatever their imaginations let them,no matter how insane or outlandish it seemed. They were so far out of touch or put upon by what was currently hip or considered mainstream cool they in effect created their own brand of cool and hip.Talented artists that were allowed to create on their own terms resulted in something quite brilliant that has stood the test of time.
25:19 - The Midnight Express Special! John Denver singing Rocky Mountain High from the dank depths of the Turkish Prison. Anne Murray singing Snowbird as she endlessly circles the walking pillar. Pure 100% Grade A comedy right there.
Martin Scorsese directed 'An Afternoon With SCTV' in 2018 at the Elgin Theatre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Jimmy Kimmel was the host. The release date is yet to be determined.
Oh, THANK YOU for putting this reel together of this one of a kind TV classic sitcom THE GREAT SCTV! There has never been a brilliant sitcom like SCTV ever, and now, with the Politically Correct World, we are stuck in. Nothing like SCTV or many other old TV shows could ever be made again because real humor and laughter has been silenced! 😢 So Thanks for archiving these episodes and uploading them to UA-cam to show people what our censored but FUNNY and not Politically Correct TV looked like and what real laughter feels like! Bwahahaha!! 3D House of Stewardess!👀❤👀 ❤️🇨🇦🎉😂💃🏻😘
You are absolutely correct 💯. Let's bring back the comedic and satirical spirit of SCTV once again and thwart the rash of PC schmucks who've commandeered our airwaves!
+Kyle Ruggles Although Lorne Michaels was Canadian, he had nothing to do with SCTV. He did, however, produce another iconic sketch show-"The Kids in the Hall"-for HBO.
@@Danimal77 funner is one of our better words. It is pretty good english, 91.3 on the scale. No horror. False 911 call on your part. Your GF walks on egg shells.

+ generalBlasto This has *got* to be the best video on all of UA-cam! Thank you for putting this together. I can't say enough about it. I remember most of these bits very well and there are some I don't recall having seen. What a hilarious compilation! I appreciate all the time you put into this project. Thanks again!!!!
I loved the Fantasy Island episode. "I hate you, you cheap little device for exposition!" and "You pulled that one on me on The Road to Dien Bien Phu!"
Crazy Crafts with Molly Earl ! I staged an Xmas version of the Half Wits with my family, including my aunt Anne playing the inventor of the amazing bingo drop can and Nana as Blanche Raye-Kellogg
leave it to beaver, what a CLASSIC! WARD WEREN'T YOU A LITTLE HARD ON THE BEAVER LAST NIGHT? I LOVED THIS SHOW., you should make a tribute show for { JOHN CANDY} in his memory???????
"An Officer And A Gentile"---LOLOL!!! This is what (well, one of so many things) set SCTV apart from SNL and FRIDAYS andthings I'm forgetting...the ingredient is literate sketch that did not treat it's audience like dummies.
I don't know why people keep comparing SNL and SCTV... these shows are apples and oranges... One is LIVE.. and "constructed"in a week that difference allows for SCTV to be far more satirical and cerebral. When they are recreating a old TV show or movie etc...the attention to detail is incredible. Most all of it filled with very obscure references... SNL goes for the easy laugh generally.....broad strokes ..almost by necessity They wouldn't have time to ever do what SCTV did. If they were created similarly ....the SNL.casts would have been able to explore those themes. Just watch the old Belushi dancing on the graves segment.
This one of best s c t v shows that I never saw GREAT .
Ann Murray in Midnight Express walking the circle scene, LOL
The Sergeant Peppers of sketch comedy… complete masterpiece… BRILLIANT.
Nobody has ever done a better impression of Woody Allen than Rick Moranis.....it’s pure gold!
Nor his Dick Cavett as well.
God these guys were brilliant. Best Comedy skit show of all time. I remember staying up late on Sat nights when I was 10, 11, 12 years old.
Exactly. I was that age as well, and at the time the show seemed magical!

STILL better than ANYTHING on TV today!!
Unbelievably funny! Humor doesn’t exist anymore.
Watched this as a kid growing up in the states. Just one more reason I thank the stars that Canada is our neighbor.

SCTV is still so great! I miss John Candy!

SCTV - greatest television comedy show of all time.
Cult of Bushmiller?
yes
It wasn't a show, it was a *network* !
Most excellent I must say 😄😎
Sooo many great memories. Thanks so much General!! What a cavalcade of stars ...
Now I remember why I always thought most network sit-coms sucked, because I grew up with this.
Yes. I watched an episode of Family Ties on a flight a little while ago and couldn’t believe how poorly it’s aged. The SCTV stuff, by contrast, has only become better with time ! Eugene Levy playing Henry Kissinger 💯
More entertainment in 5 minutes than SNL from 1990 to present.
Except for Kristen Wiig. Check out her "Liza Minelli Trying to Turn Off a Lamp" and her other brilliant performances. She could have easily been an SCTV cast member.
God its good to see Lynsk Minion again. I love Turning Japa-neese by Jerry Todd. A great video, should have won an MTV award.
Beauty and the Beets was one of my mom's favorite sketches!
Only thing missing: any promos for The Days of the Week. Brilliant nonetheless!
Rocco and Mojo were the best...didn’t see “Battle of the PBS Stars” either... a classic.

Edmonton?
What also helped was how they played every part and performed every sketch like it was serious.
Wow! Every cast member unique and funny as hell. Lots of belly laughs.
Too many great comedians coming at me from all directions. Gotta hit the pause button periodically to save myself from laughter convulsions!
Nothing has made me laugh as hard as SCTV.

SCTV was more funner than Saturday night live on NBC
The thing is, they both came from the same mind :) Lorne Michaels, Canadian :)
+Kyle Ruggles Although Lorne Michaels was Canadian, he had nothing to do with SCTV. He did, however, produce another iconic sketch show-"The Kids in the Hall"-for HBO.
More funner? Really? Dude, that's HORRIBLE English. Something isn't more funner. The word funner already implies that it is MORE fun.

Big bazoomba's! 😂
Love the shot of Downtown Toronto at 42 minutes.....my how its changed since then !!
Nothing today comes close to this comic genius, in my opinion.
Just found this Thanks!
I loved the Fantasy Island episode. "I hate you, you cheap little device for exposition!"
and "You pulled that one on me on The Road to Dien Bien Phu!"
the real / original theme music, as posted here - is SO much better than the music which has replaced it on all of the dvd box sets.....
The Vic Arpeggio was a satire on a real show called "Johnny Stacatto"
Good stuff man!!!!!
Genius ! Complete genius!
As a 70s/80s kid i always looked forward to sctv, fridays and snl.
The Fishing Musician, with Gil Fisher and Joe Walsh
Catherine O'Hara as Lola Heatherton on Sctv, in Her Special at 9PM
I guess I gotta go to this thing
SCTV... Brilliant comedic genius.
Always Thursday at Nine. How do they fit so many shows into that hour?
When you said that crane job was gonna cost 10 big ones I thought you meant 10 bucks. hahaha

I like that it's more freeform than SNL. I just find it to be more pure comedy without the cool-school attitude or the politics.
Linsk Minyk is an entertainer in the truest sense of the word.
