Haven't got an official diagnosis yet, still waiting for my assessment but I can relate to a lot of those traits. As a kid I could spend a good chunk of the day, walking aimlessly in my garden, thinking about things I was doing in my fantasy world.

Yeah, mugs for sure. Mugs and more cups. Also, makeup bags, scrunchies, notebooks, books, pretty napkins, lip products (balms, lipsticks, glosses), nail polishes, and perfumes. 😃 I can only write with pens that have blue ink, and they have to have a certain feeling to them once they hit the paper... 🙃🙂
So glad I found your channel. I'm a 50yo recently diagnosed with ASD a few months ago, and seriously... I relate to so much of all this it's like listening to my life story. You're lucky to be diagnosed at your age. I just wish I knew all this years ago and I wouldn't have been so hard on myself... decades of questioning my own identity, and wondering what the hell is wrong with me. Here's a couple of funny stories from my early school years... I'd get into trouble a bit. First day there I went to the bathroom without asking the teacher if I could leave class... she went running after me and literally dragged me back by the ear, "what's wrong with you! - didn't you notice the other kids asking permission?" .... or early handwriting lessons where we had to "copy" the printed text, and I actually drew the text in the exact font style with the serifs because they said "make a copy" but by the time I'd carefully and precisely drawn the word "Cat", the rest of the class had finished the exercise. Or getting into trouble for this or that, and being told "it's against school rules", and my response being "can I please have a copy of the school rules so I can study them and understand?", or stimming by jiggling my knee up and down under the school desk (which looks like I'm doing something else) and the other kids and teacher having a good laugh at my expense. Anyway... you get the idea. Some hilarious moments looking back now, but not so much at the time. :-)
There’s definitely a grieving period of the past, or “life you could’ve had” if you’d known earlier. But I’m hoping that’ll pass. I’m glad you finally have your answer. It’s still a validating feeling. I also got in trouble at school and felt it was all so arbitrary. Thanks for sharing

Oh completely. There’s a really good video by Yo Samdy Sam that talks about getting rid of gendering autistic traits in general because it perpetuates sex bias. I’m hoping they just create more inclusive criteria that catches all those on the spectrum. Thanks for the comment.

I relate to so much that you mentioned.
I like, for the most part, ANYTHING over people.
I also exaggerate facial expressions and my tone of voice.
I also like biology, dance, cats, and burningman.
You describe selective mutism very well. My friend asked for my consent to photograph my son’s birth while I was having him, but I couldn’t answer her. For my next birth, I started speaking in different languages, which allowed me to communicate.
You explain everything I’ve experienced so well. I was diagnosed a few weeks ago.
Well - can I relate to any of that? ALL of it. except I'm dogs not cats, though I do have cats, dogs are ME...everything else, could have been me talking.
I'm 53. Diagnosed only a couple of years back. Had taken me a long time to come to terms with the real me, and I'm happier for putting the effort in and finding myself :-) It's lovely to 'meet you'.
I related to so many things you mentioned in this video, especially the identity crisis part. Always questioning my actions; “am I doing/wearing this because I like it or because I think other people will be impressed?”
I have basically every single one of these thing almost exactly. except for the smelling sensitivities, I cant identify anything with my smell but certain smells make me nauseous or make my head hurt.
I can't stand wearing bracelets, watches, necklaces either! It's one of those things where I found out I had autism then realized that it was related afterwards.
I've been diagnosed ADHD but can relate to roughly three quarters of the traits you describe, some stonger then others. I was hoping to learn more about the border between ASD and ADHD cos this border is still not 100% clear to me. I'm 57 now and got diagnosed ADHD 5 years ago and I'm still learning how things work in my non-neurotypical brain. I wish you all the luck in learning how your brain works. If it helps, I think I might actually have ADHD as well...I’m just not formally diagnosed with it. It’s still a difficult boarder to navigate I agree.

I was 💯 convinced as a kid that I was implanted by an alien race into my moms womb and my true alien family would be coming to get me soon.....still slightly convinced 😆🤣
I'm a girl with autism. I was diagnosed at age 7 (about 20 years ago). Even though I'm mostly a girly girl I have more so-called "boy autistic" traits than "girl autistic" traits. It's amazing how many different ways that autism can manifest itself.
You bring up an excellent point. Through further research and reflection, I'm definitely learning as I go....I think that we shouldn't be gendering autistic traits as this perpetuates the sex bias in psychology. It also excludes those who don’t identify as male or female. Hopefully we’re heading towards an all inclusive description of ASD soon.

omg!! I'm trying to be assessed around August by U of A for ASD. They're about the only place in Tucson that seems to have experience with assessing adults. If you don't mind me asking, would you be able to share who assessed you (if they're in az)?? I'm trying to feel out all these healthcare providers and it's just like... a lot.

How did you find someone who specialized in adult female autism in order to be assessed?
A friend of mine from high school referred me to Dr. Lauren Megrew from Gilbert, AZ. My friend is also female and on the spectrum and late diagnosed.
In which age u start speaking
Not sure exactly but I started talking pretty early, like 12-18 months. I was just shy around people and only talked to my close family.

And hey, thanks for putting out these videos. Myself and a few other friends realized we were Veeeery likely somewhere on the spectrum within the last month or two. I think we're roughly your age and unpacking all of that has been such a bizarre process. Thankfully most of us still seem pretty positive/hopeful about what this all might portend. None of us have gone in for an official diagnosis yet. It'll be really interesting to see how things progress with your evaluation, should you decide to share that publicly. Hope the whole process goes as smoothly as it can for ya 🤞.
