    You're right, it's a really good instrumental.
    The video would have been even better with Saiki sitting on a bar stool a bit in the background, the microphone lying on a small drinks table next to it. Small smile, listening and slightly waving a leg in time with the music. That's how cool she is.

    Saiki is my favourite of the Japanese frontwomen, so I want to see her in as many songs as possible. But when the Maids do an instrumental, it's magical. This song kick ass. Kanami blows my mind. Her guitar work has no boundaries. I could gush about all of them, but that would take too long. I don't think any band has challenged my ears and brain like Band-maid has. They have so many good things going on in each song from each member. Thanks for another great Band-maid review.

    Thanks for the reaction. Funny fact, when they were putting together the new EP (Unleashed), Saiki said that she wanted an instrumental to open the album. She pushed for this, and, as usually, she has final say of all releases.

    Thanks again from Japan 有難う💛。 I witnessed this song performed flawlessly in B-M's pre-US concert in Tokyo and dropped my jaw 😲. I believe so did many of American audience at 12 venues. This song has been normally played in the middle of the setlist to give Saiki some break. Most of the audience at B-M's one-man (or one-person) concerts had, of course, already known their skills and talents. They played this song, however, as opening at two festivals (Summer Sonic, Japan and Aftershock, USA) and in Guns N' Roses concert in Japan as support to the legendary band. Yeah! they showed off their skills and talents to the audience who knew nothing about the girls in maid outfit on the stage. I felt as if I heard them screaming "Hey guys! Listen to us and open your eyes wide! We are not the persons that you think ! Salute us!" 😄

    You do have a point abut Saiki. Now I think she is a superb vocalist with a great stage presence and she most certainly looks the part of a rock goddess. But a great vocalist can be supported with a band of good musicians and still produce good songs. Band-Maid has exceptionally talented musicians that takes this to another level. So yes, it is a pleasure when they make an instrumental showcasing their talent. As for my favorite member, that would be Akane. Obviously she one of rocks great drummers but she always has a big smile on her face when playing and you can't help but smile when you see this.

    As a singer, I felt the same way as you did for a long time. I liked the band a lot better than the singer. I'm gonna sound like a snob, but the vocalist of a band has to do things better than I can before I can look up to them. And yeah, she had a bit of a limited range, and was a bit pitchy at times live.
    But then, circa 2018 she got polyps and needed an operation. And after that, she (along with Miku) hired a vocal coach. BOY has that ever been a great move. Both of them now blow me out of the water, and I can finally say that Every single member is a master at her craft.

    Yeah some of their "1000 miles an hour" songs can take a few listens to get into, even though they usually end up as favourites for me, so it's nice to have songs like "from now on", which I just instantly fell in love with. Plus it still has plenty going on so it bears many repeat listens too.

      There's no denying the talent of a musician that plays at this level. For me, I like music with a great hook and music that you can feel in your bones. Thousand mile an hour music doesn't typically have that for me. This was really, really cool.

    As another reactor said, each member is a pillar, that if you take any one out, its just not the same. Misa is brillant, Kamandi shreds like nobody's business, but Akane is my favorite--Though that is a relative term, as I keep shifting back and forth among all the members of the band as they play--Akane's drums are the rocking foundation the carries the band. Her fills, rolls, and shifts are always fresh, never exactly the same, yet keeping time like an atomic clock, and always in the pocket.

    I love the vocals, but that being said, as a musician I like that they decide to occasionally just cut loose and let the instruments sing. No shade to Miku or Saki, their vocals are the part of Band Maid that make me smile and that’s definitely my favorite reason for listening.

    This song by band maid sounds awesome John and yeah I like the instruments more than the vocals. Maybe I would like the vocals more if Saiki sung in english but this song does sound heavy and groove oriented at the same time and like you said they don't have to play at fast speeds to sound good because it does allow for a much more full sound coming from the instruments and it really does breathe life take care out there John

    Nice work PE! When I started Maidiacing I had the same opinion on Saiki as you, I admit she's grown on me. Seeing her perform live was enlightening, she's never _not_ expressing with her movements while she's singing. Maidiacs love Saiki and feel a little guilty when enjoying the instrumentals... *but we still love the instrumentals!* Misa also started out as my favorite, but lately I can't stop noticing the drums, Akane doesn't get enough camera time in their videos. Thanks for the reaction!

    If Saiki is your least favorite, you should have seen them live. She just radiates charisma. You just wanted to bask in it. That said, they are very proud of this song and opened their EP and all their festival shows with it.

    • @ProjectEllsworthReacts
      @ProjectEllsworthReacts  Рік тому +2

      They should be proud of this song; it's a great song. So what you're saying is that if I chose to see them live, I would like Saiki more than someone else in the band because of her charisma? I don't think that'd be the case. Mick Jaggar is arguably the most charamatic front man in the history of music and I don't like him at all. Whether he's standing still, dancing, laying on the ground or doing jumbpnig jacks, I don't care for his voice or style. We all like what we like and that's that. Saiki is a good singer and I think I made my opinion on that clear in the video. She's still my least favorite part of this band.
      If I had said that she was the greatest singer on the planet, or in the galaxy for that matter, but I didn't like her little hat, people would have a meltdown because someone doesn't like little hats, nevermind the fact that you like everything else about her. It's completely illogical. Ya' can't please everyone.

Also, there is an another Interesting one "Giovanni", which has both vocal version and without vocal version. This song sounds just insane. After you check this out, you'd want to listen to all the instrumental version of their songs, for sure.

    I think it's MISA's Black Cloud Custom "Black Smoker" that gives it that "Meaty" sound. That guitar always has a nice growl to it, pick ups maybe?

    • @greylocke100
      @greylocke100 Рік тому +3

      All of her basses have custom wound pickups, but she also has a pretty extensive pedal board, including a drop pedal plus if I am remembering right 2 different distortion/fuzz pedals, plus an overdrive. Combine that with her custom wound pickups and she has an extremely thick and deep sound. And that isn't even taking her 200 watt Orange amp head into account. All of the Ladies, have specifically selected their equipment and instruments to give them a unique to them sound. From Miku's EVH's 5150 amp, to Kanami's Mesa Boogie triple rectifier and even Saiki's and Akane's microphones (Akane's drum mic's), everything is chosen to enhance the sound that IS Band-Maid.

  • @greylocke100
    @greylocke100 Рік тому +1

    Johm the Ladies themselves have put out alternative instrumental versions of many of their songs. With the release of the Scorebook for Unseen World, they also released a companion CD of the entire album as Instrumental versions. And listening to the vocal vs instrumental version there is a complexity and yet simplicity to the music, that a vocal can hide.

    • @ProjectEllsworthReacts
      @ProjectEllsworthReacts  Рік тому +1

      Plainly and simply, I am a music guy. I played guitar throughout my childhood and the instrumentation of a song is what resonates with me. That holds true with just about everything that I listen to. I do enjoy a hell of a lot of singers out there, but the instruments are what I always hear first and foremost.

    Not sure why, but in much the same way that most Korean TV shows are so good at letting the story breath - taking time to develop it slowly at the proper pace - most Japanese rock music does the same thing - they let the music breath and develop naturally.

    • @jeffaube
