- In this episode, I introduce the Christian. or Northern, Renaissance Humanist movement of the 16th century. I discuss its characteristics and examine the ideas of its two biggest thinkers, Desiderius Erasmus and Thomas More.
Dude, this vid saved my life
I haven’t watched it yet. I’m going to. But why?
Wow Paul I´m shocked! That was outstanding, clear and concise. I just subbed.
Welcome to the family. Thanks for the kind words.
great job, Paul. Thanks for the clarity.
Thank you for a simple, yet detailed, explanation! I would've loved to take your class!
I don't know if you will ever read this but the way you explain stuff is Amazing! I wish you could do a set of videos for every part of history!! I've learnt with you so much! Thank you so much!!!
This helped me so much thank you I've been watching all your AP's
Glad to hear it! Spread the word.

Thanks Paul this helped so much, Cegani is going to be so proud of me
I am 100% Christian Humanist. The idea of respecting individual freedom, accessibility to text, freedom of questioning, education, believing in the divine and applying as a life lesson, without imposition and with moderate aims. The principles are beautiful, but organisations immediately corrupt the text and oppress people with rules that are not even written. Using the old text instead of the new one, not interpreting or adapting to modern life. That's why a lot of people stay away from religion, due to the organisations and radicalism around strict ideas and outdated ways of living. It is so upsetting to see a lot of people claiming to be Christian but not really being one, imposing and oppressing others. I am ashamed of what is happening.
awesome! much appreciated
This guy alone will let me pass AP. Thank you!
damn paul looking like a whole ass meal. he could hit any time chief.
Hi Paul, your video has reached classrooms in China. The freshman English majors from Gansu province follow the equivalent of a AP Euro history course their second semester. Thanks again for the perfect clarity, speed (not too fast), and didactical approach to history!
+Andrew Rankin That's great! I'm glad they are finding my videos useful.

So interesting, thank you. Do you have reading recommendations on this slice of history/ Christian humanism?
Thank you for this. I could find nothing on this topic in the texts I have.
Nice video
My goodness!
When I asked my teacher, back in USSR, where I grew up, why there were only 4 eggs per person given now in our local shop, after long queues, not six, how it used to be, and how does it correspond with the idea that we were promised communism in 8-10 years by her (“when you grow up”), and the number of eggs seems to be counting in the opposite direction; during the communism there would supposed to be plenty of them and free, the teacher answered that it’s obvious. It would only happen, she said, if everyone becomes conscious, honest and hard working, as Marx and Lenin said.
Little did I know that all three were quoting Thomas Moore …😏
Awesome video, but didn't the inhabitants of More's Utopia only have to work for 6 hours a day? 3 hours before lunch and 3 hours in the afternoon I believe.
I can appreciate principle over dogma
you saved my life
