Secular humanism is a system of morality dependant on independent thought, scepticism, and rationality. It has changed a great deal over time, as it is not locked into a specific set of religious virtues or a book of unchanging dogma. In fact secular humanist is stronger than ever.
If this movement took place during the renaissance in 1400s, human being seems to have already moved away from God 600 years ago. Could you please tell me how the catholic and christian religions still manage to keep their faithful followers until today? Has there been some kind of movement which brought religion back to Western societies? I live in Singapore now and I can see a lot of the local people here are 'staunch' Christians and Catholics, and even Taoists. (When I meet superstitious people, it reminds me of the medieval era or middle ages you were talking about.)
+Victoria T Religion is based on faith and belief. Humanists were devout Catholics but also valued secular knowledge and progress. Intellectualism and religion are not and never have been mutually exclusive.
Victoria T when you are raised as a child to believe in god, as well as your family, as well as your friends, as well as most of your culture, and you are taught that without a belief in god, you are immoral, fot many people, athieism isnt an option from a social perspective. It parallels gays coming out in many ways.
