    * edited - After reading people's comments, I think just having a recipe that says to put in x of a cup would be better, with a side note that if you are making your own batter to put a lesser amount in. That way people could just use their own measuring cups, reducing the cost and the need to store the extra cup.
    I think they should have a cup that measures just the right amount, that may make it work better.

      one trick and one problem with this unit.
      First batter volume. need to figure that out and not with a filly line with with a QUANTITY ie x amount of batter pour it in.
      This is T&E simple enough. trial and error.
      the second thing the problem is the TIMER. its not long enough. period. need to START at 4 minutes and end at 11 minutes maybe even 12 minutes. (cold home cold batter)
      Also a little butter spray in the mold first will help with the golden color a little.
      Either way needs a V2 this one is a bust.

      @@nerys71 thats kinda the issue with this toaster, toasters are automatically supposed to compensate for a cold unit, hence why your own toaster takes longer on its first cycle than all the other cycles after its warmed...
      Problem #1 this is just a generic toaster, go back and look at his nostalgia grilled cheese toaster and it will look exactly the same, because it is... but that not so bad the bad is that this toaster has a flaw its preheat function doesnt work and probably kills the temperature compensation causing the toaster to come up early
      Problem #2 this thing would take longer than an actual waffle maker, my waffle maker doesnt take 11 minutes to make waffles bigger than this thing, once it gets preheated it will give a bigger waffle in a maximum of 5 minutes, toasted to a golden brown without any butter spray
      in short bigger more cooked waffles in slightly less of an amount of time than this thing
      Problem #3 it is so much easier to figure out how much batter to put in a waffle maker cause your not looking down a teeny little pour spout
      Problem #4 the units own manual suggests you do not put fruit or anything chunky into the batter, my waffle maker actually gives recipes that have stuff like that
      TL;DR whats the point its a medicore poorly rated waffle toaster, that i dont even think suggests can be used as a toaster for bread, if it was sold as some multi use device i would understand more because most of the multi devices tend to be mediocre anyway, but if they sold this unit as not only a waffle toaster but a grilled cheese maker and a standard toaster, since literally the only difference is the little molds and the grilled cheese basket and popped it out for the same price then honestly i could understand it as maybe one of those space saving RV type things or dorm room appliances...
      but as a machine meant to replace even a 10 buck hamilton beach or walmart brand waffle maker... psfsft F minus on that

    • @nerys71
      @nerys71 2 роки тому +2

      @@compzac they already do that that's what the preheat button is for he used it both times it's simply not long enough
      Trust me I understand that there are better alternatives I have quite a few of them including some very nice commercial flip and turn while homemakers like you see at hotels I very much love them
      But I judge products on their own merit this is supposed to be a weird toaster like gadget and it is fixable how they did not notice the issue with longer runtime oh wait they did they said you might need to put it in for longer :-) which means they knew about it and released it anyway :-)

    Great review. I would have loved seeing you try the molds in a different (more powerful) toaster. Otherwise, I enjoyed this video. Another great review of a not-so-great product!

      I was thinking about how you could stand the molds up in a loaf pan and bake them in the oven too. The molds have the potential to be quite versatile.

    I was wondering. Do certain UA-camrs get a list of things they should try? It's weird when I see other UA-camrs I watch all trying out the same random items around the same time (like within a week or two of each other)? Just something I have wondered for a while. As always, great review!

    Kudos for getting it to work at all. In the category of sometimes things are the way they are for a reason, a traditional horizontal waffle iron works much better. But then again, every kitchen needs lots of these special purpose tools and gimmicks to make a waffle, toast a hot dog, make grilled cheese . . . . Doesn’t everyone have acres of counter space?

    that "vertical waffle toaster" is just a normal toaster that got another name to make you think "wow, a gadget just for waffles" when in reality its just a toaster 🤣🤣

    • @compzac
      @compzac 2 роки тому +1

      little different its hard to see because he doesnt just put a slice of bread in, but this toasters slots are much thicker. So its not literally another normal toaster in generic terms, but your right in that it is just the guts of a normal toaster with thicker bread slots

    That toaster might be good for texas toast actually. It looks like the insides are a bit larger than a regular toaster, so the thick slices used for texas toast might actually fit.

    Waffle irons that I have used required preheating the surface where the dough is placed. Perhaps try to preheat the molds, then immediately put the hot molds down again, and then fill with only a 1/4 cup of batter to test it. As already mentioned in the comments the waffle can be taken out of the mold and re-toasted to make it brown and crispier.
    I think the concept is good for those who do not want or have room for just another occasionally-used appliance.

    I'll stick to my old GE combo waffle machine/hot plate with no off switch. It's about as old as I am, but it still makes four waffles in five minutes flat from the moment i put the top plate down. It even has a little light that goes off to tell me when it's done preheating.

    Just an idea though.
    After the first round and it's still not cooked to your liking.
    If it's solid enough, remove it from the mold, and just toast the waffle itself.

    For some reason, I think the two sticking ridges on the sides of the molds act as a fill line? The lower one for a thinner, more cooked waffle and the upper, for a thicker and less cooked one.
