Peas and spinach on a waffle sounds pretty good.
But fried chicken on waffles, with syrup and everything, which is a thing some people eat, makes me gag at the thought.
any waffle cooked in that silly contraption lol looks like freezer waffles! love your videos so much Emmy❤️❤️❤️
"Geez, we ran out of milk? Use Miracle Whip instead. That's also white."
If waffle isn't crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, it's just a glorified pancake! Lol.
@@censusgary I thought so too, but I tried it a month or so ago and it was actually really good!
*I bought this to replace an old Sunbeam waffle **MyBest.Kitchen** and pancake maker that my parents received as a wedding present. It is very simple to use and makes perfect waffles. I followed the instructions and lightly seasoned the waffle grids before using it the first time, and my waffles pop right out without any sticking at all. The indicator light system makes very consistent waffles, just slight the lever to the doneness you like, pour batter on when the green light is on and remove when the red light comes on. I can make four large waffles in about five minutes.*
That gadget is what I call "Ready-Made Thrift Store". It meets all your expectations as long as you haven't paid more than about $5 for it.
😂😂😭
@Tblazer same! without the insert though lol
Perfect name
Id pay $10 for this once they put them in the discount stores. Looks like it needs some love and attention.
Perfect description 👌
The silicon molds might seem like a neat idea if they could just work in any toaster. Then you can make waffles without the expense of a new gadget taking up space in your kitchen. But if you have to buy a whole special toaster, then ... Why not just buy a waffle iron??
Im sure they have a patent on that mold so it wont be sold alone for a few years... But i have a wide mouth toaster I'm sure it would fit
My thought too..😂..🥴
Bc why would u, when u have this amazing and very easy-to-use gadget?!😂
I have a toaster so its good
edit: nvm I just skipped the ad and started watching the actual video 😭😭😭
@@kensken8842 did you read the comment before you replied to it)
I can immediately see one benefit to this gadget-- silicon sleeves / molds / etc are SO MUCH easier to clean than the non removable metal griddle of a waffle iron. And, presumably, you could use the base toaster to actually toast bread, too.
The other advantage I thought of was for people who have a limited amount of space, since you can use this for toast + for waffles. Not sure you couldn't just buy the molds separately though!
@@fictionalbeauty I'm def gonna look for them. If I can't use them in my actual toaster, my toaster oven could at least handle them.
And I wonder if further cooking in the mold might have firmed them up a bit more, or if naked toasting was necessary? Either way not a big deal, though, bc everything needed was included. Except instructions & recipe I guess 😂
There are waffle irons with removable metal griddles though :o I think those are far easier to clean than these silicone sleeves
Ain't there a silicon bag used for bread? I think that one is cheaper than this and it was used for people who had celiac
Yes, those are awesome benefits! Disappointing however that their main function doesn't doesn't produce a decent waffle! Lol.
The thinness of the waffle reminds me of an Eggo Waffle which, if I’m remembering correctly from my childhood, often came out floppy and soggy and required being pushed down for another cook cycle. I wonder if that is their intention - the silicone sleeve cooks it and maybe browns it, but if you want CRISP you put it back in the toaster like a frozen waffle.
That's what I was thinking! I can't imagine silicone being a good environment for crisping. Maybe that's what the other lower settings are for; you can put the waffle in for just another few minutes and make it all nice and crisp.
EDIT: She did that and still didn't like it. Oh well.
If you wanted a good eggo waffle.....
Hahaha, no such thing friends 😂😂😂 Made you look! They were always either soggy or hard as a rock ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I have never had a soggy eggo waffle. How would that even happen unless you cooked in microwave
That's what I would do even if they didn't intended for it. Seems like the best solution
@@geekfreak2000 Maybe not but my sister and I used to have Eggo waffles at my non-cooking grandmother's house so I have nostalgia for them.
Quick sidenote: Sugar is measured as a dry ingredient, but bakers consider it a wet ingredient. You want to make sure sugar is well incorporated and it readily disolves in liquids, so by adding it with your wet ingredients you can ensure you don't wind up with flour-coated granuals of sugar in your final baked good, which would result in a crunchy texture. Plus, if you add it to fats (like butter) it works as an aerator etc etc. There's actually a lot of reasons you add it to wet ingredients, but the main reason is that it makes for a more consistent end product.
I've learned something new, thank you!
I was thinking this as well.
Thank you!
Cool, thanks
Great info. Thanks for sharing
This thing’s brand name is “Nostalgia.”
You know, I don’t have any fond memories of pouring waffle batter into the family toaster. Maybe I’m not in their target demographic.
Lmfao!
Nostalgia used to be better back when I was still a kid
@@jessl1934 Yeah, nostalgia isnt the same as it used to be
Lol yeppers
Maybe fill the molds, keep them off to the side, THEN put them in the toaster immediately after preheating?
that would make more sense, but with the spout it seems that the manufacturer wants you to fill the waffle modes in the toaster, so she was testing it in the way that the manufacturer intended, even if that isn't the best way to do it.
@@kandigloss6438 Yeah, it seems that way. But as Emmy said, maybe the molds were intended for thinner batter, though there should have been some sort of instructions if such a thing could influence the outcome of the product.
The engineer who designed this system probably never even considered that someone would try to load the waffle sockets while they were inside the toaster
Maybe just the moulds for a normal toaster would be good for someone that doesn’t make waffles often but I don’t see the point of the special toaster, you may as well just get a proper waffle iron at that point.
For real. I have a waffle maker that makes single Eggo sized waffles and it was $15 on Amazon. Way easier to use and cheaper.
I 100% agree. If you don't use your waffle iron all that often, you can always just use it to make huge batches of waffles that you can freeze and then reheat in the toaster oven, oven, toaster, or the microwave. Additionally, you can make some really, really good savory waffles (my mom has a recipe for mashed potato waffles that you serve with bacon and chives) that you absolutely could not pull off in this sort of contraption.
Exactly my thought.
These molds look like they'd fit in toasters with the wider slots (that can fit bagels), so they could even sell the molds separately as-is.
But if you buy this *instead* of a normal toaster, isn't that the same thing? Like, it can toast regular bread too, that's why it has a dial instead of being locked in the "golden waffle zone". It's literally just a rebadged bagel toaster.
Hearing Emmy say bull crap just made my day.
Finally, someone mentioned it XD
I can definitely see a use for the waffle toaster.
It can obviously be used as a plain toaster as well, and with wider slots, could be used for toasting larger items like bear claws or bagels.
With the silicone (I presume) waffle molds, you could also likely make french toast in it.
Toasting your waffles again just to get the crispy is a pain, though, but it appears to be much easier to clean than a regular waffle iron.
It's a multitask device that would replace a common single task toaster, so that seems good.
My favorite device was a waffle iron with reversible plates that could be used as a griddle on the other side, or a sandwich press.
I agree. I think if a person has limited counter/cabinet space, having this toaster would be good.
I love your videos.....I really do. Retired firefighter....27 years.....occasionally I see something that raises the hair on the back of my neck...this is one of those things. It's not a taste thing that concerns me. Pouring "liquid" into a flammable mold in an electric toaster....please no.
@@HarryStarzec it maximises profit
no, in baking sugar is considered "wet" it is almost never added into the flower and other "dry" ingredients, but instead with the butter and other "wet" stuff
Sometimes.
I got curious and read up a little. In many baking recipes, especially when you don't want something tough like bread adding sugar to wet ingredients prevents the water in the liquid from forming gluten.
@@bleh329 za. z. z z z.
"
It depends on the recipe. I bake all the time and sometimes it's in with the dry and sometimes it's in with the wet. It's never just on one side for me.
@@bleh329 Typically if you see a recipe where someone says add the sugar to the flour, that person is not an experienced baker. I see this happen a lot in the food blogosphere where a lot of people are just sort of ripping off existing recipes and rewriting them to be "different." There's almost no benefit and many, MANY drawbacks to adding sugar to dry ingredients.
You are correct about the formation of gluten, but additionally adding sugar (and salt, often times) to wet ingredients ensures a much more consistent product. Sugar melts very easily in liquid and that means your final product will be evenly sweetened, in addition to whatever other benefits the sugar may add. In cookies, when you cream the sugar and butter together, you wind up with aeration for texture purposes.
Yeah, I said the same thing. The only times I can think of when it’s acceptable to put it in the “dry” ingredients is in pie dough (I personally don’t use it in pie dough, some people do for browning purposes) and some bread recipes like challah or Japanese milk bread, where you mostly dump it all together and knead. I personally use honey in my challah, but some people use sugar. Not sure why people are trying to argue, for waffle/pancake batter and cakes, it should always be included with the wet ingredients. I guess there’s some really bad recipes by food bloggers out there like you said. 🤷🏻♀️
Emmy is like.. my UA-cam mom. I go to her whenever I'm stressed. She's gotten me through so much.
Thank you Emmy
The most passive aggressive I've seen Emmy yet but I have to agree you have to include a specific batter recipe since this is no ordinary machine and add instructions on how to use the thing lol
I laughed when she said "vertical waffle maker, who thought this was a good idea?"
Right hahaha
I have a Cuisinart vertical waffle iron and it's great. You do pour the batter in from the top. It's a great spacesaver and makes great full size waffles. I didn't expect much with the Toster molds.
We have the same one and love it! Much better than the toaster version for sure!
It makes such tiny waffles, needs a recipe just for two waffles
Maybe try popping them back into the toaster after taking it out of the mold for a crispier waffle. Kinda like how you blanch potatoes to cook them, then fry them for a crispy finish.
Frozen waffles are cooked, just not browned similar to the one you made, just pop it back in and you'd get a similar result to a freezer egg waffle
She did
I work 6 days a week. Today’s my day off. Getting to watch Emmys new video is giving me tons of serotonin. Thankyou Emmy!!
Happy day off!😊
A regular waffle maker seems so much more convenient. I love how tasteful you are with your reviews.
This product terrifies me every time I see ads for it! 😬
I wonder if it'd have been crispier with a bit of butter rubbed on the silicone, like we do with short crust pastry. Love your videos!!
No the silicone to me is to keep the batter in place until the heat can steam it cooked. It will never get very crispy in the mold. I am sure if it had came with instructions that it would say for a crisper waffle place waffle in toast to toast up. If you look the waffle that she laid down and poured was crispiest at the top because it had more space to get air to crisp up.
I think this would be great to prepare lots of waffles so that kids can pop them in the toaster like eggos but you control the ingredients this way. Making waffles on a waffle maker to make ahead takes forever and you can't really go to far while they are cooking because they would burn, with this you can put it in and walk away to do other mom things.
@@butterflyforeve Why wouldn't things get crispy in silicone bakeware?
@@jessl1934 the silicone would trap steam that would make the waffle soggy
@@Peaceful-Sheep Which waffle maker or waffle iron _doesn't_ trap steam though?
@@jessl1934 waffle irons release steam out of the sides. The silicone only allows steam out of the top, which explains why the only brown/toasted area is around the top opening.

What a funny device!!!!! I remember doing grilled cheese in a toaster bag. You should try a stuffing waffles or a lunchables waffle!!! Loved your sound effect!!!!
I bought those bags for making grilled cheese sandwiches in the toaster for one of my daughters about 10 years ago. As I recall, she tried it once or twice and they just didn't work well enough to bother.
@@annbrookens945 I know they were very disappointing
Emmy I saw online for Christmas there was an Andes mints chocolate cake. I thought of you because you love mint and chocolate so much. I was thinking maybe you could make it.
Ooo...
Sugar is considered a wet ingredient when baking, as it dissolves completely into whatever wet ingredient you're using.
It acrually prevents the water in the wets from forming gluten.
And the salt should be in the dry items.
In things like pancakes and waffles, though, it's usually mixed in with the dry ingredients.
**cries in toaster oven**
Gosh! I haven't even gotten to your content, just at the add, but your voice is so calming and addictive!
I love your taste in decor!!
So interesting you paid almost 30 bucks for a Nostalgia waffle toaster when I found their MyMini waffle maker at Walmart for less than 10 bucks. I had the same problem with it. Waffle was cooked but too soft, almost rubbery. I like a crispy, Belgium waffle and that was what I was expecting. I gave my Nostalgia waffle maker to my local thrift store! Lol.
This could go….horribly wrong….but that’s what im secretly hoping for 😂😂😂😂 sorry Emmy
i love you emmy and wish you a lifetime of happiness
Excited to be here so early Emmy! Hope you're doing well and I'm excited to see how this works
Nostalgia products fascinate me. I found a Nostalgia sandwich maker for $5 and once I figured out the quirks, I ended up with toasty sandwiches and mini omelets!
I have one of their $8 mini pancake makers given to me as a secret Santa gift and I honestly use it more than my expensive griddle. It makes perfect fat little pancakes every time! I'm utterly hopeless when it comes to makeing a reasonably sized pancake and it helps me so much.
Nice! Those are the best kind of finds.
I have a nostalgia lava cake maker and make little berry muffins in it!! Also the nostalgia pancake maker makes the perfect sized pancakes for griddle sammiches, and perfectly round eggs!!
I feel like it's emotionally impossible for Emmy to have a bad mood day and for that, she's my role model
It would take Saturday Night Live to write a skit of Emmy having road rage.
every once in a while when i look through my subscriptions, see your video's title and in my mind scream "NOOO EMMYYYYY!!!!!" lmao
It was a neat idea. Thanks for the waffle recipe and furniture recommendations
6:16, making sure the waffle mold is completely closed: Oooh, I know exactly how this would end in my house. My wife and daughter have trouble closing ziploc bags properly! We'd end up with batter all over the inside of the toaster for sure. 6:50, filling the mold in the toaster: OK, maybe we wouldn't have to wait until the improperly closed mold leaks to get batter in the toaster. It's almost a foregone conclusion that one of us would miss the opening of the mold. At very least, I'd have to use a measuring cup to pour the batter.
Those are some soggy looking waffles, Emmy! The molds could only have steamed the batter, right?
Not judging by the browning that started.
Perhaps an extra toasting out of the molds is in order here. I don't know it seems like an obvious solution to me. Maybe a different toaster though, it looks too wide for the naked waffle.
Love your videos. Always inspiring me.
I love you so much Emmy 💓 they way you get when you eat reminds me of myself
I actually perfer my waffles exactly the way they cooked.....don't like the crispy waffles, but to each is own, this was fun to watch!
My kiddo likes them floppy, too. 😁
I imagine it’s a lot easier to clean than a regular waffle maker amd saves room if you can use it as a regular toaster.
Emmy, you are the cutest ever!! I think with all the steps you have to take, with the toaster, doesn't beat out a (NORMAL), waffle maker. 🧇🧇 Are delicious, and I agree about the nooks and crannies! Yes the novelty of it is cool, but I agree with you!!
I think I have to make waffles for breakfast tomorrow!! 😋😋🧇🧇
I have not watched you in forever! But love your show! Happy that the algorithm got me back to you!
This would be fun and a little more safe for my 2&4 year old to make waffles with me in the mornings. I also like that the waffles are thinner. It might be a little less intimidating for small kids to eat too, I've only ever owned waffle makers that make pretty thick waffles haha
I was thinking of getting rid of my waffle maker. I couldn't get crisp waffles. Then last week my mom mentioned she had heard about making brownies in a waffle maker. I immediately tried it. When I took out the first ones, I didn't know if they were cooked LOL and they were soft. I was disappointed! I set them on a wire rack and in a minute, they had crisped up! Don't know if the higher amount of sugar made it crispier, but now I want to try more things!

Very interesting. I have a hotdog toaster. It will cook the hotdog in one slot and toast the bun in the other. 4 at a time.
This gadget fills me with dread. Anything would have to be toasted again because the batter just steams inside, probably be pretty dry. I'm also not crazy about the concept of putting wet batter into a clamshell into the toaster, if you don't get that seal it could be a huge mess and safety hazard 😨
Watching the end clips of Emmy's videos are the highlight of my day

I'd think that you could just as well cook the waffles in the mould in the microwave. Then put the cooked waffles in the toaster for crisping.

what you need to do, is get good at cooking waffles in the toaster, then do a race between conventianal cooking and waffle toaster cooking.
I can see one possible practicality. My kids like toaster waffles, which cost about $2.50 for a box of ten waffles. This waffle toaster is about $30. If you've got the time, making and freezing batches of a dozen waffles might save a few bucks over time.

I see no justification for such a product. If you're going to have a special gadget for waffles, just get the one that we've known for generations works. I don't see how this is any less work and, as you've shown, it produces an inferior product.

Emmy out here doing the Lord's work 😄🤗
My 1935 Montgomery Ward waffle maker makes waffles like a champ. They come out crispy and perfect every time.
Thank you so much for making this video. Your timing is great, because one of my brothers likes to give oddball kitchen gadgets as holiday presents. Some have proven more practical than others. For example, the most useful one has been the panini maker: plug it in, let it heat up and it turns almost any sandwich into a panini (as long as the sandwich isn't too thick). It even cleans up pretty easily. We make dinner with it it every couple of months. The least useful has to be the pretzel maker: make your own pretzel dough, press it into the molds, close the lid and let 'em bake. The only problem is that rolling your pretzel dough, shaping it into pretzels and baking them on an ordinary cookie sheet would be faster, easier and make less mess. The Vertical Waffle Toaster would probably fall somewhere in between. If nothing else, it looks like you at least get a working toaster, even if you don't use it to make waffles.
Thanks for taking one for the team, Emmy 🥰
