    This machine shows John Deere is serious about performance as well as utility. I do agree with eliminating the rev limiter completely to see what this machine could do. I would guess it would easily top 65 mph with no restrictions, that's pretty darn fast. The price is competitive as well, that's the biggest concern with most on a machine like this. It will have some stiff competition no doubt. This segment has some real contenders like the Ranger 900, Commander 800, Teryx, Wolverine and the new Honda Pioneer 1000. I think it will be able to hold its own though.

    My Gator 850i RSX was finally fixed by JohnDeere, props to them for standing behind their equipment!!!! The new clutch install was a first for them. WARNING: the breakdown was NOTHING like the book, even in their book, lol so don't do it yourself if yours goes out!!!.. they had to order a special tool from JD to get it done.. and drop lower frame!!! wow major work.. but, now, it is very enjoyable to ride in, doesn't overheat anymore. Now the real ride issues I have, 1. it will fry your legs like a freaking egg!! Really hot, it gets super hot and shoots the heat directly onto your legs.. so jeans might be a good idea, it was very uncomfortable... very, if your not hitting cold mud, lol.. 2. real design oddity, I noticed this last cleaning... the front trunk with a gasket on it, as if to keep something dry.. will not work, it has holes inside the box, inside seal through the fuse panels? lol Yes, they stuck a gasket on the hood, put the fuse panel and main pc in there.. and you can look THROUGH the wire hook up to the ground? odd.. I still only have done really light mudding, and you see the front had flooded? so don't put anything that can not get wet up front... 3. Gas gauge is not accurate, we only filled it maybe 4 times so far, so take a can lol, 4. This is loud, so get a helmet and ear plugs, it is louder than the ones with more power, oddly enough? Besides that, we think it's solid. The power is better with new clutch, so we are thankful in the end to JD, and will be riding again soon!! #johndeererocksagain #johndeere850iRSX

    Good old John deer! I'd still go for polaris or can am for utv sport but for utility most likely John deer. More so for reliability and just durability. I mean John deer is proven tough. And I'm actually so surprised to find fox piggy backs on it, I thought it would be like a cheap adjustable shock or something. Well good on John deer for making a great utility UTV! :)

    I'd love to see an updated look at the 860i and comparison to Polaris General. The General is not mentioned here, maybe it hadn't come out. I choose a 19 General over the RSX and now I'm kind of regretting it. I'd love to see them tested side by side. I've never really seen the 860i compared against any of the competitors mentioned here.

      @@dirttraxtv Well, it seems nobody builds what I need/want. I have issues with the CVT when trying to do work around the property, you can't go slow, such as to run a sprayer, etc. But, it's even challenging to pull it close to something in the garage, as it is lurchy and grabby, but seems common with CVT machines, and I've seen the same complaint about the JD 860i. Lots of quality problems on the General, some of which are kind of jokes on the forums/groups (like the tailgate staying closed). Years ago I bought Honda Foreman because I hated CVT (had a Polaris Scrambler), and here I am again. But, Honda Pioneer has no bucket seats and you aren't supposed to shift between 2 wheel/4wheel/lock without first stopping, that's just plain stupid (yet you can on the Talon?). And I'm still not a fan of Polaris AWD.... there are times I just want to lock it in and know it's locked in in advance (for example on rocks, etc).

    They are nice and want to buy one but the problem with John Deere is its dealerships. They never really want to deal with the "Little Guy" and weird thing is most farming dealerships are like that at least in Minnesota.

      To me I think this easily compares to Polaris because some people that gets something like this especially so expensive would like to work with it but you have work and play all in one and 60 mph isn't to bad for a utv but of course you could have more power isn't the Polaris like 70-80 I don't remember but for usefulness and play these guys win I used to be a dickhead no offensive to polaris nuts but I always wanted Polaris RZR1000 with all the best coolest shit 26k of how the fuck did I go in debt last night but I'm not gonna do that shit now if I want to I am my father are mechanics and after the warranty is up we can upgrade the hell out of it and I swear after we are done polaris nuts will shit themselves

    Dirt Trax,
    I'v had my eye on this model for a couple months now and I'm torn between this unit the RSX 860i and the Yamaha Wolverine. If the dumping cargo bed is not a factor what would you say is the better choice for a trail riding sport utility side by side?
    Thanks,
    John

      If you want value, go for Yamaha. A few dollars on some rims and a winch, and your trail ready.

      +John Pair You might want to look at the Can-Am Commander 800 as well. Its in the same price range as the Wolverine but the 800 v-twin makes more power than the 708cc single in the Wolverine.

    • @TheCamaro5
      @TheCamaro5 8 років тому

      +Greg Rowe I agree with both guys. The wolverine is great but a little down on power. The Cammander 800 or 1000 and the John Deer can haul more gear and tow more and have more power. I have always liked Cammanders but there is no denying the new John deer is good.

    • @gregrowe1168
      @gregrowe1168 8 років тому +1

      Can-Am has a new utv called the Defender which costs even a little less than the Commander. Its basically their version of a utility machine. I guess the 860i isn't as expensive as I thought it was, $12,299 for the base non-eps model. Its actually a bit narrower at 56.5 in wide vs 60 in for the others. That is a definite advantage in a tight spot. Adding eps adds some to the price of course but it does on all utvs. Basically the 860i is in the same ballpark in price as the Wolverine, Commander 800 and Polaris Ranger 900 XP. It all comes down to personal preference at that point. Give them all a try and see which one you like the best.

    I just started looking at these things a while back I never thought anything so cool would come out of John Deere we've always used their agriculture equipment but we was looking to get something like a polaris or artic cat but we needed something we could use for work for me and my pawpaw and these things are the perfect combination but he still cries looking at the price but once its here he will love it

    As a real owner, my new RSX850i trans went out less than 30 hours on my first trail ride. I never had a chance to abuse it, it was babied. All they have " proven" is they build Junk, never buying deere again. A 10year old Mule left me on the trail, as it wasn't stuck in R on the ned of a trail surrounded by water. Total nightmare situation. No reason for it to be gone, we took excellent care of this.. please check other brands, I am stuck with this expensive yard art now. Very disappointed.

But JOHN DEERE did step up, and I am glad!
