Many months ago. I commented on one of Mats reviews saying "Review the new 911 or the 718". Mat is connected with his fans & gives the viewers what he wants. I think Mat is the most entertaining & also the best car reviewer.
@16:50 .. not true, they don't pipe sounds thru speakers, that' a BMW thing... they allow the sound to naturally work into the cabin by a opening in the back of the car cabin though.
Porsche does not feed their sound to the speakers. They do pipe some behind the rear seats however which is where the engine lies regardless. Its the same as Ferrari's and lamborghinis. Also, the muted sound is mainly caused by the particulate filter. The 991.2 C2S sounded just as loud as is N/A on revs.
I miss the 3.8 flat six naturally aspirated, the sound of that engine after 4k rpm is pure addiction. Like the brits say “not my cup of tea” this new 911
dji zzah I dont get that. I think it looks horrible. I vastly prefer classic Porsche designs though. I dont think premium brands should go for such „modern“ looks.

Props to Porsche again for keeping some analog gauges, the tach is legendary, and they didn't screw with it. They could have made it digital, but kept a wonderful yet small feature that will keep me loving these works of art. Nothing like a 911. Glad it's returned to looking more like the last great 911, the 993. The more the 911 evolves the more it's looking like a classic air cooled 911! Perfection.
0-60 times are about as irrelevant as they've ever been. Each gen 911 is less the driver's car than the one that preceded it, that's the only fact worth stating imo. Give me a 993 or 997.2 any day over this

I hope you enjoy it, it may be objectively superior in every aspect apart from being fun to drive. I like fun. Speed yeah, but what does it matter on the road? Do you really care if a car is 2.8 seconds to 60 vs 3.2? 4 or 5 seconds is plenty.. plus you’ll have to do a launch mode and look like an idiot. It’s just marketing to make the next gen ‘better’ than the last- as I said, it’s faster but more boring, wider, heavier, expensive etc. What’s the point! Corners are fun, going fast from a traffic light isn’t. I’ll join the future when we’re forced to drive electric cars, until then there’s plenty of good cars around from the 80s/90s/00s and a few from 10s but not many.
I've driven this car. It is amazing both inside out. Really really fast. Imagine the turbo.. if I've had the money I would order one now. Porsche, There really is no substitute
Thanks for the review. I just bought a 992 4s. I thought it would just be like every other car, but in a stylish suit. I was wrong. It is... a monster. I'm in love. The dashboard annoys me though, how the steering wheel cuts of the screens. What were they thinking! Other than that, it's perfection.
Do you have GT steering wheel? I have the standard wheel on mine and it's not been a big deal for me at all. GT wheel is smaller. I love mine 2S. Engine noise is not played through the speakers like Mat says in this review.

@@Diirk the view is still somewhat obstructed with regular wheel, but not as badly. I can see fuel level below 1/2 mark. And agreed. They have 2 physical tubes that go through firewall to allow engine noise to come through. Both closed in normal, one open in Sport, both open in Sports Plus. A great solution that few cars do because it's cheaper to play thru speakers (new Toyota 86 has a tube too). I'd recommend Savagegeese's technical deep-dive into 992 Carrera S - tons of engineering detail.
I feel like the touchscreen would only be annoying depending on your dominant hand, if you are in a left hand drive car and you are right handed it would probably be easier to hit the buttons than if you are right handed in a right hand drive car;
My dad just recently bought a porsche panamera, and he’s right about the annoying hidden buttons on the screen, it took us 10 minutes to figure out how to connect our phones to the cars speakers without connecting to anything else.
Right i was thinking the same. It was from another porshe. This car doesn't have labelled drive modes, you have to check the gauge cluster Everytime you change the drive mode.
Drove this on the Gumball 3000 and I can hands down say that it is a BEAST! Didn’t struggle to keep up with the Huracán Performante, 488, etc. Took it down a few bendy roads headed into Venice and the 4 wheel drive makes the car stick to the ground like hell when you’re flying through them! Hands down BUY IT if you can. I actually prefer it over many of the other cars after that!
15:31 lateral parking: when your front wheels get to the rear wheels of the car behind which you want to park, that's your cue to start rotating the steering wheel in the opposite direction. it really isn't that hard.
Great vid as usual Matt. Mega performance. What will the new GT cars be like !! Glad you mentioned the touch screen. It's not just Porsche. All touch screens in general are difficult (?dangerous) to use whilst driving. I avoid using the touch screen in my 991 !
What S class coupe would have the performance for the price of the 911. I'd choose the front speed bump and torque vectoring options and just go for the regular S over the 4S

Right, overall i'd prefer to have an Audi TT RS to be honest.
I think you'll find just about all 911s have the two outer gauges blocked by the steering wheel, it's just an abnormality of having gauges running consecutively across the dashboard.

Man I got really lucky and got 20k euro off a brand new 911 992 carrera 4, with all the bells and whistles, in a lovely chalk color... but because i just bought it off the lot, the car came WITHOUT keyless entry...a 130k car that lacks the most basic 100 euro extra function 😂😂😂 still love it though, tuned it to 515hp and its a goddamn monster.
Well the build quality, interior, reliability all go in the favor of the Porsche Also the Porsche has better handling and a Naturaly aspirated engine. Honestly, the 911 is an objectivly *FAAAAR* better car. However, the C8 is a great car if you can't afford the 911
