If you actually boil down what makes the 911 S/T special, the Miata offers pretty much the same kind of experience minus the horsepower, but even then the power it has is enough for someone that doesn't care about the number on the dash, rather how the car actually feels to rev out. My son and I went driving this past weekend and one of the dealers we went to was a Porsche dealer for a 2014 Cayman S. Firstly, the Cayman was a good driving car, the flat 6 sounded amazing and the PDK was the fastest I've driven. Having said that Porsche pricing is insane. This 10 year old Cayman S with upholstery damage, fender damage and PPF needing to be replaced was $45k. They had candy colored almost new 911 turbo S's in the showroom for $299k and $280 respectively, for used sub-1000 mile cars. Umm Ferrari, Lamborghini, McLaren, Aston Martin... I'll take a Z06 for almost 1/3rd the cost or a Lotus Emira for 1/3rd, F-Type R, SL 63AMG... Too many drink the Porsche Kool-Aid.
Couldn't agree more with this video. I don't need rear wheel steering, I don't need turbos, I don't need 600hp, or a fancy dual clutch. I need a communicative, predictable chassis, a fast revving motor, and a solid standard transmission. Why does that have to be crazy expensive?
Unfortunately that's the scam Porsche is running now. Many reviewers have covered this including Chris Harris. The 911 has become so bloated/heavy, Porsche now removes stuff to save weight, then charge you more 😂
I agree with Thomas. Give us a 911 T with a similar formula (manual, NA, fast revving, lightweight ) but not the GT3RS engine (just a basic 3.8 NA would be great) and sell it for $100k. Porsche won't be able to make enough.
Wow kudos to Harris or whoever the sound guy is, yall captured the essence of the engine beautifully. Literally watching this blind just to get stoked after hearing the engine sound only.
lol that Charlie & the Chocolate factory intro 😂😂. Lmao that ticket with the stipulations is SUCH a perfect representation of Porsche though. I actually thought S/T would stand for Street/Track
Automotive journalism doesn't get better than this. This is the pinnacle of the media!! That said, Thomas seems to have forgotten that it's a touring car as well, it needs to have some comforts.
Well done guys. Considering how late to the party you guys are as one of the larger channels on getting this car, you crushed it. Some of the shots in this vid were so cinematic and beautiful. Clearly you guys continue to step up your quality and it shows.
I agree. My M3 e30, while only affordable these days in comparison to cars like this, will give you an experience like this and I have had the good fortune to put 300k miles on it daily driving. Buy an old e30 and drive it if you’re a regular person and want to actually drive this style of car.
Great review but you missed the point of the steering feel. The issue with the quick steering of the GT3 and 3RS is on compound turns many have spun because the rear cannot catch up to the quickness of the front. In fact, in those cars, best results are achieved by slowing down your hands. This ST, on the other hand, feels natural. It feels like the best version of steering Porsche has produced. I did NOT miss the quick steering feel of the rear wheel steer available on the other GT cars. The ST is a car that asks for more the more you push it. The steering has NOT been dulled down. The feel is AMAAAZING!!! What they’ve done is slow it down compared to the all wheel steer GT cars but it is PERFECTLY in tune with its chassis. This is an important distinction. Dull implies lack of feel and the ST steering is one of the best I have felt in 30 years. Slowed it down a bit, yes. With GREAT results. Dulled it down? Not in the least bit. All in all, fun vid to watch👍
Lol yeah. The limited to only those who buy 50 other Porsches so they can trade it amongst themselves for 4x sticker. So glad we all get cars like this.

It’s about 3k pounds and if James and Thomas can say that’s light, no one has the right to complain about the Emira for weighing the same just because the previous Evora and Elise was lighter
If you want to pass modern safety standards, and hit Porsche's performance _and_ reliability standards, and _not_ cost millions of dollars like a GMA T.50... You end up weighing around 3000 pounds. Note that the McLaren 750s weighs about the same... And that Ferrari couldn't hit this number if the company's life depended on it. As for Thomas's 50k stripped-down manual, RWD, 300HP dream car... That's just unrealistic car journalist mouthings. You absolutely can _NOT_ engineer an uncompromised platform to base a car like that on and hit anything _near_ the 50k price point in 2024. Absolutely not.
I just don't know where to go from my old 1600 pound Elise. So I'll probably die in it, when lack of electronics, airbag, rollover protection finally conspire against me. But hey, at least I didn't have to pretend that a sportscar can weigh 3000 pounds :D
Great intro! I 100% agree. What a disaster and shame VW owned Porsche has become. As someone lucky enough to be able to afford one, I will not indulge Porsche in their artificial supply restrictions for their nice models. I will not buy 10 Macans to be able to “Hopefully” get an “allocation” for a high spec 911. The base 992 is a bore. There is no reason why the GT3, etc should be limited - they can make any spec 911 that goes down the line.
I will never understand how this team captures the feel of the driving so well, I mean Thomas and James are excellent hosts… but the cinematography, audio and editing are on some other level
Hands down the best, most comprehensive introduction to Tesla vehicles that I’ve seen. This is an incredible resource for new owners and has a lot of value for renters as well. Thanks for creating it!
That introduction was perfection 👌 its really shown porsche losing their customers and sales due to lack of engineers and factory workers to make enough cars....kinda defeats the purpose having a rat race "waiting list" for just the stupidly rich.
People do this just to be able to choose the spec and to get future allocations. In reality it's probably cheaper to buy second hand even with huge markups! And I bet some people will sell the S/T because they only bought it to get an allocation for something better in their eyes, like a Speedster or the 918 successor!
Get your point Thomas, that is why I drive a 996.2 GT3 Clubsport. Try it out! It is way slower than these new versions but still makes so much fun to drive and you can say, it‘s the original 🤷♂️
As a BRZ (1st gen tho, yes characterless engine) owner, I feel proud of the mention. It truely is the best real sports cars that is actually affordable for a medium class guy (specially in a third world country). The way I see it, after my BRZ there’s second BRZ and then entry level Porsche.

I'll take a Z06 for almost 1/3rd the cost or a Lotus Emira for 1/3rd, F-Type R, SL 63AMG... Too many drink the Porsche Kool-Aid.
That intro is dedicated to Jay Leno singing praises of Porsche while being sour about Ferrari! 😂😂
In THAT interview he was praising McLaren to not have Ferrari BS if I’m not mistaken
@@thecompanioncube4211 He was praising Porsche with regards to his Carrera GT!
I’ve seen that Jay Leno thing about Ferraris. So disappointing to see dealerships doing that
Leno is not a fan of porsche. I think he only has one very old 911
@@aguruattapiano Watch his video, he was praising Porsche when they gave him a Carrera GT.
Couldn't agree more with this video. I don't need rear wheel steering, I don't need turbos, I don't need 600hp, or a fancy dual clutch. I need a communicative, predictable chassis, a fast revving motor, and a solid standard transmission. Why does that have to be crazy expensive?
The ND2/3 Miata gets you all of that for $30k...
981 S, £30k
Unfortunately that's the scam Porsche is running now. Many reviewers have covered this including Chris Harris. The 911 has become so bloated/heavy, Porsche now removes stuff to save weight, then charge you more 😂
@@AvidUTuberI have always said….”Porsche….pay more, get less!” !!!!
@@flyjbaker Uh that's Ferrari
Bravo to the transition at 04:25 , seamless.
1:09 James change in facial expression when Thomas starts reading the golden ticket is priceless
That S/T 🤌🏼 The production value of these vids get better and better. James and Thomas make 1/2 hr feel like 5 min.
The production quality of this video is INCREDIBLE, so amazing to see how far this channel has come! You guys make being a fan so easy!
Seriously my favorite presenters since the original Top Gear. keep it up!
Fellow Canadians!
I love your channel and keep coming back for more. Keep it up gentlemen, and hats off to the video and editing team as well! 🎉
Literally the best UA-cam car channel there is.
Putting the snippet of the GT4 RS in while waxing poetic about the noise of the GT cars was an outstanding move.
I’m so grateful to them giving credit where credit is due. Nothing sounds like a GT4RS with the faucet opened all up❤
This is an ST - Sports Tourer. The Touring part means it needs to be comfortable and equipped....
S/T actually stands for Shit Ton of money
I agree with Thomas. Give us a 911 T with a similar formula (manual, NA, fast revving, lightweight ) but not the GT3RS engine (just a basic 3.8 NA would be great) and sell it for $100k. Porsche won't be able to make enough.
23:18 I wasn't expecting that WhistlinDiesel name drop, but I'm here for it. You heard 'em Cody, throw shovels at it.
My wife just asked me to turn the volume down while i watch this video. “I cant. Impossible”. What a beautiful car, and excellent video! 🎉
My god I smile and laugh every time. Genuine laughter. Love the work.
That throttle response bit was LIT.
It was. ND Miata does the same thing, especially ND1 with single mass flywheel. Still that car is probably even more responsive somehow.
Wow kudos to Harris or whoever the sound guy is, yall captured the essence of the engine beautifully. Literally watching this blind just to get stoked after hearing the engine sound only.
How do we deserve a 23 min piece of motoring journalism like this... and for free (as I pay for no ads with Premium YT). Fantastic film guys.
That ‘twisted nipples’ comparison loool😂
Hahaha the Golden Ticket was 10000% spot on.
lol that Charlie & the Chocolate factory intro 😂😂. Lmao that ticket with the stipulations is SUCH a perfect representation of Porsche though.
I actually thought S/T would stand for Street/Track
Love your work! Videos are so engaging, chemistry is there, funny, and informative. Keep it up guys!
Your guys' videos continue to amaze me.. beautiful shots and editing combined with amazing character. Awesome work as always.
The BRZ to 911 video transformation is fabulous.
They should have REALLY offered the S/T with the option of a duck tail, imo.
Yeah, the rear seems empty, but theres a Sport Classic, so I guess to make them more different it has none and because of Aero etc.
Instead they should have put the gt3's engine in the sport classic.
@@wolfgunther8325I really don’t like the lack of a wing on Touring cars. Just look imbalanced
@@A1steaktbh the wings put too much extra downforce on road cars which actually don't benefit from it.
that transition from the tS to the ST was amazing btw, great job
Automotive journalism doesn't get better than this. This is the pinnacle of the media!!
That said, Thomas seems to have forgotten that it's a touring car as well, it needs to have some comforts.
Well done guys. Considering how late to the party you guys are as one of the larger channels on getting this car, you crushed it. Some of the shots in this vid were so cinematic and beautiful. Clearly you guys continue to step up your quality and it shows.
4:25 ...smooth
Classic 😂😂😂😂
11:09 "this is like feeding a gremlin after midnight, so naughty." WHAT Haha
The most affordable way to get rear wheel drive, manual, NA is to buy an old BMW! (Mine is definitely not in at the garage waiting to be fixed, shhh)
You do know that Miata exist, don't you?))😅😅
You did not just put affordable and old bmw in the same sentence 😅😅
Used reliable light Miata and 86/brz for under 20k.
Obligatory C5/C6 Corvette comment.
I agree. My M3 e30, while only affordable these days in comparison to cars like this, will give you an experience like this and I have had the good fortune to put 300k miles on it daily driving. Buy an old e30 and drive it if you’re a regular person and want to actually drive this style of car.
Outstanding. You guys deserve to be the most-subscribed automotive channel on UA-cam. The best thing to come along since peak-level Top Gear.
Probably the most anticipated review on this channel for a good few months
... Save the manuals👍!!! That's what I got in my '23 Challenger ScatPack Widebody Shaker 🎉
Congrats on the Shaker! I recently purchased a 2017 Mustang GT 6 spd and we’re saving the manuals 1 car at a time🫶
@@bynjei2530 ... DEFINITELY 👍
@@bynjei2530... Congrats on the GT! And DEFINITELY 👍!
4:58 spinning in 2nd gear that close to the redline...nice
11:54 is the greatest automotive tech breakdown ever. Lovvvvvve it.
this might just be the best intro you guys have ever made, hands down.
It's definitely good....but the all time greatest intro was the Prius episode! I watch it every few months just to laugh again.
Twisted nipples GT3!
That's a perfect analogy for the S/T!
Thank you Porsche for keeping the spirit alive.
Lol yeah. The limited to only those who buy 50 other Porsches so they can trade it amongst themselves for 4x sticker. So glad we all get cars like this.

Love that whistlin diesel comment James is just flat out clever and funny.... gotta be when ur a quee bit shorter lol. You two r the best there is and....I VOTE YOU TWO THE NEW TOP GEAR.. UK. The good one. C'monn. I've seen everyone. I'm calling it, Thomas and James the new top gear presenters. Plus Carston the camera man or the gargantuan sound editor brotha as the 3rd host. There's Noone better guys n gals let's make this happen!!!!
Congratulations boys, you are thhe only reviewers who manage to drive fast and stay on your own side of the road, i live in the pyrenees southern france and love to drive on the mountain roads in my cars, i am sick of the prats in their noisy cars coming around every bend on my side of the road.

911 review! let's go!
Those throttle blips at 5:04 really show how absolutely visceral this flavour of 911 is! Long live the Porsche Boxer engine!
I will never understand how this team captures the feel of the driving so well, I mean Thomas and James are excellent hosts… but the cinematography, audio and editing are on some other level
Röhrl said about the S/T „der beste“.
that intro was just brilliant! :D
I still think it’s pretty cool that Stephen Curry does car videos on the side 😅
The Best Review channel on UA-cam. Period!
Shortages are intentional to spike demand and, in turn, profits. This is the current business model everywhere because it works
People do this just to be able to choose the spec and to get future allocations. In reality it's probably cheaper to buy second hand even with huge markups!
And I bet some people will sell the S/T because they only bought it to get an allocation for something better in their eyes, like a Speedster or the 918 successor!
Intro ON POINT!
The transition from the BRZ to the Porsche was **Chefs Kiss**
Get your point Thomas, that is why I drive a 996.2 GT3 Clubsport. Try it out! It is way slower than these new versions but still makes so much fun to drive and you can say, it‘s the original 🤷♂️
The Intro is World class😂
😢 The ticket sounds like it was written by Ferrari
The acting is Netflix level
As a BRZ (1st gen tho, yes characterless engine) owner, I feel proud of the mention. It truely is the best real sports cars that is actually affordable for a medium class guy (specially in a third world country). The way I see it, after my BRZ there’s second BRZ and then entry level Porsche.
Yes! Strip the interior down!! The console delete in the 996 makes a massive improvement to the interior (visually and functionally).
Wait! Just wait a second! 3,000 lbs is light?!? Because if that's true then my wife's Camry is within spitting distance of being light.
Most accurate opening ever😂😂
