Great getting my hands on another Porsche GB car, this time a base 911 🔥 A Turbo S must be absolutely mental 😂
What a machine - the ultimate everyday sports car…..
Really unique with its engine setup and its personality, a beast Carrera.
For 385 HP! 3.59 seconds is insane ! 10 years ago the 997 Turbo S was putting out numbers like that. That is insane! Do you really need a Turbo S! It cant have 385HP! I’m thinking 405 HP
You know what we want to see next ;) Porsche 992 Turbo S review would be so much fun I think
Pretty much everything you say about the 992 is bang on imho Joe. I’ve had my 992 C2S cab for six months now and the only two negative things to mention are, as you say, the peripheral console visibility and the rough-surface tyre roar.
I have been unlucky - I have had some quality issues… but without doubt this is the best car I have ever owned by a long way. I’ve had some nice Beemers too - Z4M Coupe, Z4M40i - but the 911 is in a different league…& price obvs. Love your stuff…
Just don't think BMW are in the same league as Porche.
There are some stand out features where BMW can compete but as a package Porche win hands down.
Great honest and informed review Joe.
And pricing reflects this.
Porsche is on a different level.
Obviously bmw is better as a complete package due to more seats and tech and livability but Porsche is superior in terms of being a sports car.
BMW is easier to spell.
honestly i dont care that the M4 may be a little quicker. there's levels to this and the 911 is a different league to the m4
It’s not pal, he just did a 3.6 sec 0-60 and it’s not even the one with cronopack which will do 3.4-3.5. With 380bhp, that’s crazy
M4 value will also bomb they will be a 45k car in no time.
@@ct4928 why focus on the 0-60 pal?
If your talking only 0-60 might as well talk C8. BMW did a great job IF you can deal with the grille. Would be nice to see HUD on a 911.
@@hwyfools It doesn’t sound that good, the BMW. It’s all harsh metallic noise in my opinion.
There seems to be a preoccupation with speed as though speed is everything. It isn’t. Speed without proper handling is useless. Porsche has always managed to combine speed, agility, handling, comfort and beautiful lines into one cohesive unit. I would take this over any other car anytime.
the 911 is probably the greatest sports car ever made, if it was for me and money is no issue, i'd always go for either the gt3 or the carrera gts. just pure engineering bliss
It's not even a sports car anymore. It changed into a GT car.
@@bigmacdaddy1234 im not sure just a GT car can lap the Nürburgring under 7min though
@@johnsabat2173 The Porsche 911 GT3 can. Guess what GT3 means? Grand Touring.
@@bigmacdaddy1234 you can put anything on a car name, if I put an S on a car model does that make it sporty automatically? no

I have a 2021 992S, the interior design and or functionality is relatively same as the car your reviewing, but yes, the steering wheel obstructs the dash and could be frustrating. Small quibble, such a fun car to drive.
Is no one going to mention Joe's choice in sun glasses?? 😅😅
I love them :)

Undoubtedly the best review of 911 I've watched till now. Kudos to your camera and the way you deliver your comments about the car. Stunning and right on point
Thank you, that means a lot! 👌
I use my 992 S as a daily. No kids so no issue. My large cricket bag fits in the back
Good for u man
If I could afford it and I didn't want a Taycan so badly, I'd buy a Carerra 4S. I want the 4WD traction and that lightning fast PDK transmission to beat other performance cars with more power.
@@snakeeyes9246 true drivers prefer the S non 4wd as the S can be power sliding and more on edge

Thanks for reviewing the base Carrera! I've been waiting for one for a while
Nice video, I own a 992 Carrera ( Silver ) and your review seems spot on, its my first 911. Has the sport chrono package and sport exhaust, No regrets on getting the base Carrera!
Thank you, great to hear from an actual owner 👌 Epic car
So base model is enough you think?
Yes it is !
Took delivery of mine in April.
I’ve had a few cars in my 74 years.
This one will probably be my last…..and beyond any doubt, the very best I’ve ever driven.
Makes me smile every time I turn the key !
I remember the first time I saw the “wide body” pass me on the freeway.
Tried to catch it to get another look, but couldn’t do it….
Now, I step out into the garage !!!
Porsche 911 Carrera, a love story !
3.59 0 - 60 is crazy for a base one
if this is true, it's the best value 911
8:52 Whoa, even Imran from Evolve Automotive would be impressed by the size of those sunglasses, I'm sure 😁👍🏻
Oooo Imran move over! 😂
What are thoooseee?!
Spot on review. Ive owned a base 911 for a month now:bose/chrono/20-21 wheels… feels faster than stated power(launch control induces nausea). Normal ride mode just as you described(surprisingly comfortable) but hit sport plus and you better hang on, really tightens up the chassis. Amazingly, at 6’-6” 300 pounds i fit in it. I hate digital screens but porsche manages this one well. Middle screen is tucked under dash and is unobtrusive but a bit busy. Push a toggle and it disappears. Main dials function vey well, tach is front and center.
Poverty spec 911 is a rare press car amazing review!
Joe, I've always liked how you speak about fuel economy and tyres - could you also start mentioning the performance of audio system of the cars?
Well, that hugely depends on his knowledge of audio systems, and obviously it's a subjective thing.
The music comes out of the rear of the vehicle😀
The feeling of width on the 992 is just a perception, as the whole car is narrower than the G8x M3/4.
That’s what I thought too. I also don’t really understand all the references to the m4 - are they really competitors? I can’t think why someone who’s thinking of buying a Porsche would even consider an m4?
@@Superdelphinus he explains this 2:10
Joe turned into A-train with those shades! Good review, sunnies not so much 😂
Agreed haha
Agree hahahah
Those bangs on the upshifts......addictive!
Nice review. 911 or M4? 911 if I had a second car and M4 if it’s my only car. Either one would be awesome.
stabbed the like button as soon as seeing Joe pulling out in the intro, excellent stuff as usual 👍
I was parked next to one of these today, had a chat with the owner, a great car.
I love this car. Completely wrong spend on spec dont bother with heritage leather on this, get the sports chrono pack and bose. I dont like the sports exhaust tips but thats me. Id probably tick it regardless for resale. Crazy quick 3.59 seconds to 60mph is ridiculous plus the looks. It looks incredible.
why not just get a GTS instead of a Sports Package and extra spend on GT option on this one. Was just playing around with the configurator and adding all the options on the base carrera came to about $185,000.
@@campeador94 thats exactly why you have to weigh it up buddy because porsche options go crazy. The thing is getting a gts wouldnt actually get you the spec i mentioned youd still have to spec it on top. And i think the performance of the base car is more than enough so id rather buy some tasty options.
The other thing that the 911 wins out on, is the fact it will retain a lot more of its value than a BMW M4. Which means if you actually were to buy either car outright, the 911 is a better place to put your money.
Love the exterior colour and the retro green dials! A great video as always! Thanks :-)
Joe I know you own the new m3, would you choose that over a base 911? Having a tough time making a choice. The durability and ability to hold value on the 911 is steering me in that direction.
About the poor sight on some gauges, I've read that designers at Porsche did that on purpose. They purposely build in some "inperfections" to remind you of the days that these cars actually came with these design flaws but much more annoying, I am sure any Porsche employee at the dealership would comfirm this. Lovely content as allways
Is that why they keep the engine in the wrong spot as well (note they’ve fixed the glitch on the race cars)?
Owned a Panamera and currently a Cayenne and same with them! They are the outside gauges and not the most important ones. Agree with you, also heard that this is a design feature!
Great review, as always. The base 911 with sport chrono plus Litchfield visit is an interesting alternative to a 992s or GTS.
17:40 look at it go !
The 911 variants on body styles is a personal thing but engine wise it's only bragging rights to go for the S or GTS.
Standard Carrera is all you need with more allowance on options. It's already a beast with a benchmark performance vs it's rivals.
If someone from the past were to watch this video, they’re wonder why this man is in his underclothes. Love your videos btw. You really convey the feeling of being inside these amazing vehicles.
Another banger catch, Joe! All the love and show gets put to the Turbo’s, GT3’s and C4S’s. In my opinion, the base Carrera’s are always the best models to me! (Behind the GT3 Touring, of course :D!)
Love the incoming Porsche content! Makes my Porsche enthusiast heart cherish.
To me, this car is IT. It is just about perfect.
I believe the Porsche 911 is the best overall car, period. You could drive the damn thing every day if you wanted to. It will never look “dated”, comfort of a GT while still being a legit sports car, durable build quality, understated prestige. It’s just perfect.
Good review. I have a base 2017 Carrera with 370 hp and have seen instrumented test times of 3.6 seconds from 0-60 with sport chrono. Plenty quick for me. 😎
Brilliant video Joe, can’t help thinking that comparing to an M car is daft as people surely wouldn’t be torn between the two because really they are totally different, ones a sports car and the other is a saloon.
They got the colour right, Aventurine green 😍
Great review, Joe how do you find the comfort for everyday driving of the 718 GTS 4.0 compared to the base 992 and would you rather choose the 718 if you could optioned the 992 base with manual ?...you can but just for the 992 S and GTS
Awesome video Joe
Face lift coming out this year
992 price drop... Perfect time to buy and save some money
Interesting final verdict, I love my GTS 4.0 cayman and it’s in the same Aventurine green, it seems to suit Porsche’s. Still wondering if I should replace after a couple of years with a PDK but I have enjoyed the manual, my first for 8 years.
@@pcsullog Have to say up to 9,000 miles now and no inclination to change to PDK, the manual is so easy, clutch not too heavy and just fun to drive. I feel genuinely connected to it. If I change will likely go to a GT4 but probably stay with Manual. If I went to a 911 though I think would be a PDK.
@@michaelsalter2473 Hi, How is the gearing for you on the manual? A complaint on the GTS manual is tall gearing.
@@scottslaught To be honest in road driving there is so much torque that the gearing isnt an issue. Yes you are pushing the speed limits flat in second but which 400bhp cars can you redline within speed limits in 3rd anyway so exactly what am I missing out on? Driving sensibly quickly I find I’m moving between 2nd and 3rd regularly but for normal driving I’m working with 3rd and 4th only moving to 6th when cruising though it pulls well at 50 mph in 6 th. I’m doing a POC Oulton park track day this month so will see how the gearing is on that. I think if I bought another one it would still be a manual though.
Always nice videos from you Joe. I think one can learn a lot from your happy personality, you seem very fun to hang around with!
Joe, Larry from Cameo wants his shades back!
Strange...
Hahahahaha wow funny and a wayyyyyy back joke
Nice to see an almost base model on test, rather than one loaded with £35'000 of options.
Can you test the Macan Gts same power and more space surely the compromise sports Porsche power/space / value ?
+1 would be an interesting review
Nice to see you testing a real car Joe 🤣😂🤣👍👏😀
I wish the seats weren’t so small on cayman. The 992 seats are surprisingly spacious and comfortable seats. Probably due to the small back seat area. Pretty cool you can order shark blue on the 2022. Incredible new color.
Those glasses Joe! Who remembers Ski Sunday!?
great vid, helped me on purchase options picked up 2021 911 carerra
Never really was a great lover of Porsche but my mind has been changed, and them sunglasses wow 🤩
Please try to get one with rear wheel steering. Its a big difference
Great review thank you!!!! My last car was a 2019 M4-- had 2 different M3's over past 15 years before that. 4 months ago I sold my M4 and got a 2021 911 Carrera S-- in this same Adventurine Green color. Another dealer had a 2022 Carrera S in black that had just arrived that day-- But because of this color I opted for the 2021-- was worth it to me as just don't see these on the road nearly as much as black, white etc. SUCH a different ride than my 3 previous BMW M cars-- definitely a stiffer and rougher ride overall. Also, before this Porsche, I only drove Manual my entire life. No manuals available at all-- which was a bit of a bummer-- But I love my new car and the 8 speed PDK really does do an amazing job. Have zero regrets and it is a true pleasure to drive.
David, which would you prefer for a 2000km long road trip M4 CS or 911 Carrera / S?
@@MySipuli As much as I love my Carrera S-- all my driving is in my small town. For a 2000km road trip 100% I'd opt for the M4 CS. 911 is great and, as mentioned, I have zero regrets, but the M4 is just a smoother ride for long trips.
Agree totally - the heritage interior package is not a great option. Would definitely spend the money on the Sports Chrono Package and Sports Exhaust
I recon you should review the Aston Vantage, much more class soul and emotion in that car, you will love it~
I test driven both, the 911 C2S and the Vantage, wouldn't hesitate to choose the latter at any time.
I just ordered my 911 Carrera and I think just like you, I owned a 718 Cayman, they are lovely cars but there's something about a 911 that's intagible + they are better daily drivers
Great video Joe, agreed the PDk is the best in the business.
The used car market right now is just plain stupid. I was looking at a 2020 C2S on a lot here in the US and they wanted $157,000 USD for it. I realize that new cars are nearly impossible to get right now but this is the absolute worst time to be used car shopping. Yes, completely irrelevant to the vid but..
I am surprised why didn’t you have the chrono package and sport exhaust for testing. I have both on my 991.2 and the sound is insane.
I would consider this one a luxury, tasteful touring car or a daily. That’s what is great about these cars is that they in flavors mild to wild.
Too bad they no longer offer the base Carrera with a manual. That spec has always been the most fun 911 to actually drive.
Agreed...
Wait for the Carrera T at the end of this year…
I can't see the whole outer 2 gages, while driving, too, but it doesn't matter because they are not essential when driving. Should have added the Sports Chrono package with the drive mode dial including the Sports Plus mode on the steering wheel.
what about this between a cayman S? i fynally have the money to buy a used 911 s from 2018.... but im looking into a cayman S to save a ton of money and i was wondering if it is a solid car and fun to drive for a weekend car and sometimes a daily driver... my main car atm is a bmw 420d gran coupe and i usually do between 50-100km a day to work. thanks
Hello Joe. Last time I saw you on vid was specking a BMW 135 ..... That car was metallic grey 👍
That interior colour is stunning. Really lifts the car as a posed to black which I find oppressive and makes the car feel cramped.
Wow, 3.59 secs to 60 for a standard 992 Carrera is very impressive!
Would you swap your M3 for this 911? The issue I have questions about is the tire noise on a leisurely motorway/highway commute. I had a 996 back in the day and with worn tires, the sound was almost unbearable.
I could see a strong love affair between Joe and the 911... 😍
An additional 100 to 150k subscribers and a lovechild Joe-Porsche might pop up. 😎
Joe, how about a review of them shades 😂
Has Joe been shopping for sunglasses with Will I am?
😂😂😂😂😂
Good review, wished you would go more in depth comparing it to the new g80! Cheers mate.
She’s a beauty Joe 👌(tbh not my ideal spec either) but the bottom of the range in RWD & PDK guise is probably the pick of the range and a good value v cost proposition 👍imho buddy
Great review Joe, and totally agree, Cayman GTS every time! Cayman is closer to the original size of previous 911s, and has that glorious NA motor in the right place..... manual though please!
Only Porsche makes a car which does 3.5 sec 0-60 with 380bhp. Unbelievable
Because they don't put out the actual figure which is much higher...marketing gimmick
@@deevnn a nice gimmick lol…they could milk it even more by revealing the real figures
@@deevnn I see this claim, but not once a dyno to confirm it. All dynos ive seen are within 10 to 12 hp of what youd expect, but those were 991 and 991.2. Ive not encountered a 992 dyno for the base model yet, but would like to see one.. The over performance is likely due to the rear mounted engine providing better traction as well as less parasitic loss of a very efficient drivetrain. Just my guess though. If it turns out it does put out much more power i wouldnt complain. lol If someone has a dyno id love to see it to clear things up.
I love Aventurine Green and also the green dials of the Heritage pack. I don’t love the corduroy material for the seats, so I wish Porsche would have a green dial option as a separate option, but I won’t hold my breath.
I feel it’s not a fair comparison to any bmw. Porsche are a higher end marque. People that buy Porsches buy them with zero compromise. They are more expensive than all other German manufacturers that’s because you get more R&D . Better quality and far superior drive than those I’ve mentioned above.
You need a full fat M4 to compare against a base bog standard 911. Says it all really.
Live your reviews and you channel Jo. Keep up the great work. More 911s please 🙏 oh and the Artura lol
Just the exact comparo i was hoping for ! thanks a lot !
I ordered this car in that color. Takes a year to get because of the circuit board shortage. It's like driving the space shuttle.
dont know about in the UK but the 911 base is more than double the price of an M4 competition in Australia
It's almost identical price wise over here, think the 911 is about £7-8 more.
Not seeing all of the gauges is part of a retro style issue of the old naughties, older 911's had the same problem...
Good review Joe 👍🏻
The value proposition on these is very tempting considering the amazing residuals. The monthly’s payments is often less than that of many BMW’s if you put in a reasonable deposit.
How much roughly?
£900 pcm
992 C4S with options at say £115k retail is c. £20k down & about £1kish a month.
Fantastic review as always, keep up the great work 👍
Joe another very honest video as usual, if I would criticise, the colour dull, you are right with the interior it’s too easy to soil and it’s fast enough!!! So I don’t want one unless you are giving them away Ha Ha Ha👍👍👍🚘🚘🚘😁😁😁
Another great review Joe. Your next car perhaps?
Great video Joe, keep them coming 👍👍
Great review Joe. The M4 isn’t really in the same class, in VAG group terms it’s the RS5 as a direct competitor? But nevertheless both cars awesome in their own fanboy favoured ways.
The RS5 is the competitor to the 911 imo, so the M4 would be a competitor to the 911 as well since both the M4 and RS5 are in the same class
Comparing the 911 with other past 911s makes sense to me as against comparing this car to any BMW car
Yeah the visibility on the outer ones are poor, but they also does not contain information you need to know about instantly. I assume P intended to put it there so just with a slight head movement you can check your fuel and oil temp. If you track it, you can add the key info to one of the central screens.
Having a 911 Turbo S, BMW M3 and BMW M5 I have to agree with you 100% ...
Not fan of all the color options to P (M5 also have very little to choice from, M3 is better), Infotainment BMW is better, but P is fine. What I really miss in the P is a HUD (know that not everybody like it ...). I would rather option out functional bits before going for the looks.
One of the major improvements of the 992 over the 991 is the wider front track of the new car - 40mm - makes the car feel more planted than earlier cars.
@@anastasistsipolitis then the tires will kind of stick out of the front fenders.
No they don’t.
I’m looking at mine !
The M4 and M3 is for stationery sales reps. This is a sports car. No contest.
At £91k?! What stationary reps do you know that can afford that sort of monthly. I had new M4 with Ultimate pack & few options on loan that put it at that price. Highly impressive and hides its weight well, however you can tell it's big / heavy, and the ZF I don't like as much as my DCT. Also test drove 992 C4S & I don't know, it just didn't give me a fuzzy feeling. It was just a test drive, rather than 4 days that I had M4 - but didn't set the world alight. I have an M2C atm, and truth is - I'll probably hold it for another 2 years, possibly look at a 458 / 488 with dad and keep the M2C, or alternatively see what new M2 is like or possibly look at an R8. In all though, I personally think M2C is £ for £ best value car out there.
@@JamesSmith-wo6qd you spell stationery with an E - for envelope ! Plenty of focused sales people can afford to rock around in an M3 or M4 on finance new ! The argument was new M3/4 or this 911.the average M2 owner is not looking at a new 911.
@@JamesSmith-wo6qd That fuzzy feeling is your heart coming alive !
@@martinboulden3540 - that's a bit presumptuous. But seeing as you were keen to point that it was a 'stationery' sales person (thank you for pointing out my typo), your point referred to that profession and with the new RRP of new M4, there definitely won't be many stationery sales people driving the new M4. I think you would need to be on £70k plus to afford one. I've been quoted £17k down and about £800 per month (granted, probably a few thousand negative equity on mine as it's still quite new). That is 911 territory. I'll take your comment on average M2 owner not generally in the market for a Porsche as a compliment.

I'd still take the base 992 over the M4 competition. I just love the shape of the 911. Beautiful car.
Should I get 4S or just basic model manual or PDK? Or just 4WD M3?!
Driving a current PDK, you do realize what BMW did wrong with not working on a new DCT and just putting in an auto box in the new M3/M4. For me a mistake on the stand out sports car of a brand.
Nice vid Joe
