    i really miss these typeof comedies! Last time i really laughed my ass off, was Tropic Thunder, and now this (finally). Im also a dog lover, so it hit home. I hope the movie will make much money, so this kind of humour wont be extinct.

    I remember seeing movies like the 1st Scary Movie or American Pie and couldn't believe how far they were pushing the envelope. And I Totally agree about dogs. We don't deserve them. And if I ever get a dog again it's going to be an Australian sheperd.

      A lot of folks are going to be buying Australian Shepherds after seeing this flick. Absolutely precious. As far as Scary Movie and American Pie, it was a great time to be alive. Comedy blockbusters like There's Something About Mary used to be the norm and now they're completely dead.

    Glad to hear it is good! I just checked a list of R rated comedies from the 2010s and I think the last American full-on comedy I saw at the cinema was This is the End 10 years ago!

    • @geekinwithJamesHancock
      @geekinwithJamesHancock  Рік тому +1

      I caught This is the End in the theater as well. That was right around the time that the genre started drying up entirely.

      @@geekinwithJamesHancock Yeah, after the mid 2010s they pretty much went extinct and although in recent years I enjoyed movies like Ingrid Goes West, Sorry to Bother You, Red Rocket or The Banshees of Inisherin they definitely deal with serious stuff too so they're not that type if movie.
      In tv, I definitely recommend you Atlanta if you haven't seen it yet.

    Glad this passed your standards. I never walk out of movies, so that means a lot! Was really bummed this didn't do well on its opening weekend, because it might mean the studios get even more tight with approving more of them. That's an awesome story about your grandpa retiring from movies.

      Luckily here in NYC, I still get treated to amazing stand up comedy at the various clubs around town but in cinema the comedy genre is in the worst condition I have ever seen. It was a relief to see one that was pretty good.

      @EthanS1481 Рік тому +1

      The fact that comedy is at an all time low (at the movies. Stand up wise it’s at an all time high) does not mean that it’s dead. Have little faith in the rare breed of creators that want to push to make it work again.

    We need another Yorgos Lanthimos Dark Comedy! I think thats my kind of humor. Although lately, I think unintenionally bad movies have sort of replaced comedy in films. Gonna have to check this one out. Thanks as always James!

The final act of this narrative lies not in the hands of studios alone, but in the collective consciousness of cinephiles, dreamers, and seekers of authenticity. If we are being honest you can tell a person's intelligence and character by the jokes they tell, over the long haul (since every now and again raunchy can be funny). I saw 3 or 4 scenes of this and didn't care for it. Imo drug jokes aren't funny when it comes after usage (here it's innocent, the dogs don't know), should be condescending

    • @geekinwithJamesHancock

      I can't quite tell if you are insulting my intelligence or the intelligence of those who made this movie. As far as drug jokes and what subjects can be funny are concerned, everything is fair game. Anything can be funny.

      I've already had this convo with boogie years ago, boogie2988 or something. If you can literally laugh at anything thats quite the superpower. I've probably never seen a comedian hit on all cylinders. Bill Burr is the most awkward, I mean those are the pro's and they don't land all the time. I don't think everything is fair game. If we are talking globally, yes there may be a percentage but if its low enough I'd have to ask those few to "make their case" frankly
