Beerus - Sama I am on a quizbowl team and people usually cover topics, usually taken from questions in years past. An example of a topic I studied for quizbowl was about 10 Russian Tsars, 10 English novels, 10 Kings of France, etc.
Many of the math questions involve a sort of “trick”, for lack of a better word. This is mainly general knowledge and school isn't about that. In order to do well in these quizzes you have to read a lot and be versatile in a wide range of subjects.

It becomes about who can predict when the computer allows them to buzz more than what they know and how quick they remember it
I'm an Indian and I'm an average student at my school and I have to admit that the maths & science questions they asked were really easy and I could answer them as well...

Bentham was a great guess as Mills' teacher, but the giveaway was the birth date. Bentham was born in the 18th Century and therefore the quickest way to get to Mills was to think of the birth date. My point here is that the way these questions are phrased makes it so that deduction is a possible way of getting to the answers which is really cool.
