A lot of the innovative PACKOUT accessories were already being produced by people with 3D printers a long time ago, so now Milwaukee realizes they are losing out on sales with the aftermarket accessories produced by 3D printers, I’d still get aftermarket PACKOUT accessories made by anyone who makes accessories.

Milwaukee is pretty much the Apple of the tool world. Apple opened up an App Store for third party devs to make apps. As some apps become successful, Apple makes an in house version and drives the 3rd party out of business. Pretty much what Milwaukee is doing here.

Milwaukee might have found one way to solve the problem of carrying large items or tools need to be close at hand, etc., but they’ve created security problem. Now I have to have a secure job site or secure location to store my boxes all the time. Pack out security was one of the main reasons I moved away from my buckets because I now had drawers and locks. This returns me to having tools hanging out in the open, and we all know that tools seem to find legs during lunch.

Biggest downside I see is having to deal with all that side stuff when you need to un-stack it to get stuff out of the bottom boxes or load it in your truck... I went with 2, 3, and 4 drawer units and keep my biggest/least used tools in the bottom box (with the NEAT Tools handle kit, thanks to you!) to minimize the unstacking. I'm a weekend warrior these days, just schlep my tools between my shop and my boys houses to help them on the weekends, so not having this stuff is not a deal breaker for me.

    • @liesejunh
      @liesejunh 3 дні тому

@@OOMAN Milwaukee thought these things through pretty well. I was worried about it being too wide to make it through doors. However I saw pics of how to install them and they all have a bracket that attaches to the rail. The accessory then can attach and detach from the bracket to eliminate bulk when needed.

The biggest drawback to the packout is the wheeled box
All their effort should have been put into solving the access to bottom box and collapsing the handle to fit under a tonneau cover
    Every other accessory is secondary.

3D printing has forced Milwaukee to offer affordable attachments. Love it.
I want a half size dolly to fit into small spaces. I love their "ammo can" storage box. I can fit an install driver, impact driver, m18 hammer drill. Some batteries, 3 sets of bits/drills, small level, stud finder, tape measure, wire stripper, pliers. Then in a thin a half size organizer. I have screws, marking tools, a center punch. I also have the 2.5 gal wet/dry vac.
And with that kit I can do a whole lot of general maintenance and work around the restaurant. And clean up afterwards. Access cooler radiators and clean them. Mount things. Take apart the ice machine. Tighten all the screws on the bar stools.
But I need to take 2 or 3 trips because while they all stack together. You have to unstack for transport.
I do have the full size box with wheels where I throw larger tools and stuff I might need. And I can stack and move everything in one trip on that. But it's just necessarily wide. I don't do construction. Just handyman/restaurant maintenance type work. A compact half size dolly would be awesome.

I get your asking for solutions but if you mount your big tools on the side. It defeats the purpose of having the big rolling box. I like the caddy it's convenient. I think it's just being EXTREMELY picky expecting your tools to be out and the open when the whole purpose of having a toolbox is to lockup and store away. The dolly is a great idea for carrying other heavy items. A transformer, boxes, bricks, etc. 2 in 1. Biggest issue with putting your important tools exposed on side. They could get knocked off while in transport. You really don't want to lose your most important tools. I say stop being lazy move the caddy, disconnect your boxes. lay them out and get to all at once. Vince complaint goes against the whole entire reason why rolling tool boxes exist. To transport your tools easier and keep them stored and secure.

You might lose space, but your big tools are accessible without unloading, lockable, and don't hang off the side so you can get through doorways. Might be a good spot to mount chargers and battery racks with the weight low. Jus' sayin'!

Thanks for the video Vince. It would seem that these new attachments just make new problems. When you inevitably have to unstack it to get something out of a box odds are the accessories will touch the ground before the bottom of the box does. Same goes for the long tool attachment. If you want to take a box off you’ve gotta take out all the long tools. New stuff is always great, but these new products aren’t a silver bullet.

I use the 2 wheel hand truck all the time for moving lots of things due to it's long tongue that makes moving large boxes/containers lots easier to tip back without having to grab it with one hand and pull back while tilting the dolly. Most of the time, you don't need to do anything but tilt the dolly and the tongue does the rest without tilting the load forward. I'd buy another one just for that reason alone if I had zero Packout boxes.

Different size drawer boxes would be most useful rather than all these accessories. You can only mount so many of these accessories to the sides of the boxes but to get in other boxes still need to take top boxes off to reach the lower ones. I'm mostly looking forward to the rolling base with the drawer coming out now only if they would make some of the other bigger boxes with a drawer option that would be great.

I feel like most of the external accessories are pretty meh. The whole point of a system like this is being able to put everything away and have it locked down so you can move it around, throw it in your van/truck, go up and down stairs, and never worry about dropping shit, banging shit around etc. Sure for really long items, there's not much they can do (though Klein came up with a much better system), but for hand tools? Anything open-top is a non-starter, you need to be able to close it all down. Drawers are the best, and they are FINALLY coming out with a rolling drawer, though once again Klein managed to do a better job with their version.
Here's what I want to see: A Packout "shelf" - a module with the footprint of the metal-rail style boxes but essentially JUST the rails and the top/bottom. They could be just tall enough to fit the crate or two parts organizers inside of them and you could lock stuff in. This would allow you to better utilize the smaller organizer boxes without them getting in each other's way. The small boxes are awesome for holding smaller power tools along with accessories, and it's great to be able to grab a single box (say, your drill and bits) without taking the whole stack if you need to. But if you do take it all, accessing each item is a pain, and if you have too many half-width boxes the two narrow columns aren't great. My "shelf" idea would allow you to place any packouts that don't have the metal corners inside of a full-width module. You would naturally being adding a bit of extra height to the whole stack, but at a great gain in modularity.
Better yet, what if the shelves were themselves modular? What if there was a bottom piece, a top piece, extruded corner sections, and middle pieces? The bottom piece would have feet on the bottom and cleats on top, plus receivers for the uprights. The top would receive the uprights and have cleats for stacking on top. Middle "shelves" would basically just be a board with cleats like the wall panels, and have holes at the corners that uprights pass through, plus a clamp mechanism to hold on. If they sold extruded corner pieces in arbitrarily long lengths, you could cut them to any size you like, put as many shelves as you want, and make it however.

Honestly, I love my pack out. have the big two stack bottom box for all my big tools. The drill bit sets that fit the slim organizer are awesome, have a full slim organizer full of drills and bits at the ready for whatever I need.
Most of the accessories here, I don't see the need for, but the battery one would be great to keep full batteries at the ready when I am working. Sure I'm like everyone hate to do the pack out restack, but I remember when I had to make 5 trips to the truck for all my tools, now load up my two stacks on the bottom box and all the tools and hardware I could need are right there with me.
Glad I went with Milwaukee Pack out, it has been a great system. Wallet hurts from all the pieces I have bought, well over 2,000.00 now in pack out, but it keeps my tools organized and easy to transport. Which is a huge win for me.

I only have 1 experience with a "packout box" and it was a bad one. I am helpering for a raingutter company, I am their sole employee atm,, bossy took me to home depot before we went to go fly and bought a (milwaukee) bottom box with the wheels (stole a tray from another box to give us two, ruining both ours and some random one in the store, since one is enough and two is in the way, but none is a problem) and told me to check around 50lbs of tools and hardware into the box on a flight, AS WELL as the box itself must be 20lbs or more, and the weight limit was like , 50lbs. Then, the box was overweight, since all alone it's almost overweight on a plane and it also had tools in it, and on the first flight the handlers either dropped it or it fell from a belt or something and the axle bent. Most ... Useless ... thing ... ever. I could have hand-carried the stuff without a bag at all and had a better experience. Then, we had the box in the truck for a while, and it remained a complete waste of space. Even though it DID keep the rain off of things, it was such a mountain of effort to go into it I just couldn't see the value. For me, for all my years of helpering, a bag has been always good, never bad, and always lighter. The only time I saw a parts sorter go well was in the example where for a few months I worked for coffee machine servicepeople and they had their waterline plumbing fittings in a sorter box. Once .... I have met once a person who needed a heavy plastic box more than a bag, and it was not for tools. ..... I did work for carpenters one time in a hotel renovation where a wheels was helpful, but I just got a 20$ hdx storage box, a bit of scrapwood and some casters, and made myself a box-on-wheels and threw my bag on top,, and never needed more. ,,, and it was lighter than packout and honestly just as durable.

The two long tool attachments seem not well thought through because they can only be used for moving. You can’t use your Packout as a tool station once at your work area because if you need anything from the lower boxes you have to take everything apart, including taking off your long tools. Drawers solves both these problems. The whole system besides some organisers on top, need to be replaced with drawers.

It only makes sense to hang things on the bottom box and drawers. Otherwise, you have to remove the accessories to get in the boxes. Milwaukee’s bottom rolling drawer is also not as good as Klein’s. They better watch Klein.

Question: Why doesn't Milwaukee come out with a battery operated cooler? I mean they have all kinds of battery operated tools, so why not a cooler? You have people that use their spack out boxes for over landing now. It would be cool if Milwaukee would come out with a battery operated cooler.

Those side attachments seems stupid thought out. When you take off the box where it is attached to. Then how on earth is you going to but the box on a table with the side attachment still on?

What market share did they loose haha. I’m journeyman sheet metal worker and I’ve not seen another mod system on a site since packout was released. It’s not perfect but most of us have red tools and so naturally we have red boxes

I STILL think they need to have a rolling tool tote that has a drawer or a cabinet door thing so I can use the bottom more effectively

Just about none of these solve any problems other than people sending money to 3D printers for accessories. Every accessory here for putting something on the outside of the box means you have to take it OUT of the box to put it there. There is no protection and almost no organization on the outside of the box. I bet people try them for a while but ultimately most will stop using them. Jury is still out on the last one where you can hang a Packout organizer on it. Might have some limited use, if you’ve got a work top on the top.
