for my nissan rogue cvt transmission, valvoline was gonna charge 120 just to change the transmission fluid but i took it to a mechanic and he told me he was gonna change the transmission fluid, replace the oil pan gasket and filter replacement. soo now i’m wondering what ACTUALLY needs to be done

Question for anyone. My transmission oil pan has 18 bolts and I want to use loctite 248 stick instead of loctite 243 liquid. The concern I have is that the loctite stick has only 5 min of fixture time and I don't think I can tighten and torque 18 bolts in under 5 min in the limited work space I have. I feel like if I torque some of the bolts after the allotted fixture time, the threalocker will fail. The owner's manual calls for a threadlocker. Any suggetions???

I've got an '87 XJ6 and no matter how many times we fix it, it still leaks. Radiator hoses, transmission pan, oil pan, you name it. Buy lots of absorbent for your driveway.

haha if you can get it to seeping instead of leaking you're good to go.

I didn’t understand why you needed to empty the coolant line if you are dealing with transmission?!

Never in 20years of tranny work have I ever used a torque wrench for pan bolts. Tighten until just after you see the gasket start to squish out or deform. This method works every time on every pan. Never buy thin cheap gaskets you are just asking for trouble. Never use RTX because a lot of transmissions have portholes you will block. Bits of sealant will enter the valve body and kill your ability to shift or burn out your trans.

On these pans the bolts go through and stick out the other side, oil leaks on the threads sticking out from up top and goes straight down onto the threads, normally yea no thread locker. as far as torque wrenching, its good practice but if you can get them all closely enough torqued by hand, sure go ahead.

Rubber gaskets are junk. Thread sealer is better for bolt holes...especially when using around fluids.

For sure. When I retired in 2013 at the age of 67, I bought a 1985 Corvette. It was 100 % an emotional purchase. I had a perfectly adequate Buick Lucerne at the time. I had no need for the Corvette. I bought it because I'd always wanted one. I had the money and time to work on it. I'd love to have a Jag XKE.
