    Quick note, putting in a separate comment for visibility: sticking the drill bit through the access port on the side of the block for the balance shaft is not optional; it's actually required. I know you did so anyway, but I wanted to explain it for anyone who might be tempted to skip this step. The balance shaft pulley on that side is driven through a gear reduction. What that means is you can have the mark on the belt-driven part lined up yet the balance shaft still need more rotations for it to line up within the engine! The drill bit in the access port allows you to probe when the balance shaft inside the engine is in the right place, as you can't tell that only by looking at the belt-driven wheels.

    I love my Prelude. Thanks for teaching some mechanic out there how to do this.

    It's all about the while you are in there with these flip cars. I'm doing a volvo now that needs a water pump. Of course it runs off the timing belt. So I figured change the belt, water pump, seals etc. It is to the point now where I might break even but I figured I have not done one before so it's a learning experience on how to time an engine. I want to prove to myself I can do it.

    Whoa that was a complex timing job, and this is an old car! I cant imagine how it must be now, although most everyones moved to chains thank God!!! 😄💕👍

    I just want to say your "how to videos" are up at the Top of Quality. Your video on how to bypass the starter relay on a Toyota was really helpful, being that I own a Camry that wouldn't crank one morning. I have been driving it almost a year without the relay I just have a horn button mounted to start the car.

    It took me a moment to remember why that balancer shaft needs to be in time. Of course, that shaft spins counterweights to smooth vibration. So the counterweights of that shaft need to be in time with the moving weights of the crankshaft, reducing net vibration.

    Looks like an expensive job changing that timing belt although you got it done pretty fast.

  • @aa-ron9842
    @aa-ron9842 Рік тому +1

    Whoever plans on trying to replicate this job. I’d highly suggest you loosen the cam bolts while the timing belt is still on so you don’t need to mess around with holding the cam with a drill bit or using the wrench to hold it. Secondly, I wouldn’t skip out on the balancer shaft seals as the the front one(left side) pops out sometimes.

    This brings back memories. My ex had one with the 4 wheel steering. I changed the timing belt. The crank bolt was very, very tight. Cool car, but not very good gas mileage for a Honda. I was disappointed.

    Thanks for making this video; looking forward to more Prelude content! A few years ago when I did this, the best/only resource on UA-cam for timing belt on Honda H/F engines was based on an Accord, which is of course F-series and only single cam. I really appreciate your explanation of the two different tensioners and how and when and why they work, because it can be a bit of a head-scratcher the way they're interlocked by being on the same shaft and how you can't put the timing cover back on without first undoing the tension-holding nut again.

    Honda should bring back the Prelude... but have it made by BMW. And also make it a SUV. An EV SUV. Yeah, that would make sense. Wouldn't every Honda Prelude fan want that?

    9:17 Water pumps have a weep hole that used to drain any coolant that might make it pass the bearing so it's normal to see some coolant flowing out of the water pump. Just kidding! That's no weeping that thing is gushing!

      He did not . . . My advice you should always support it. His excuse was because he was going to be up and down with the lift but that’s no bueno…. Always support the engine put the new mount and keep working but never leave it hanging by one mount. Smh

    I would prefer to see a space where a spring should be rather than have a spring and what?? The f*** did this spring come from?
    Cars have 6 times more springs than I thought necessary or possible and I stopped counting.
