- Lately, on social media, I keep seeing people who are growing my genetics with insanely fast growth. There are some really talented growers out there, who are achieving spectacular results, often thanks to the technical know-how they’ve acquired growing cannabis or other plants.

Yes when you harvest let it sick in dark box for 2 months. It can up to double the content. That's why Ogun tested so high near 5% it almost didn't get tested by the lab and sat in a box over two months before it was. And it tested the highest. And this has now been repeated with other cuts.
@@brianfitch5469 hi there! You mean, after cutting the cactus, instead of coocking it right away, way better to let it "dry" in a dark box, and with that the alcaloids would increase???

I graduated from hydro to organic. Not much info on organic cactus growing but I’m gonna hit it with my cannabis routines. They seem to like the same stuff

They do, just look at it like a giant fruit instead of a cactus.
I make my own compost for my cactuses in two large trash cans. and use diluted urine for fertilizer. It has everything plants need and micronutes in a plant ready form.
To help with microbes, use some pond,lake, ditch, or aquarium water time to time. And it's also best to not let the soil completely dry out. Soil microbes need some moisture.

Since watching this video i figured id give this a try. I've been struggling getting my San Pedro started out here in Arizona. Since the addition of hydroponic nutrients these little babies are really taking off. I'm mixing my hydroponic nutrients 3 parts per million. Seems to be really working. These have fattened up all of a sudden in the last week. Great idea! Wish i could post pics here
I started from seed in December of 2020 and about two weeks ago I cut the two 4 foot cactus down to 12 clones and just potted them yesterday. Two pups already 5 inches tall have grown from the base. Only grown indoors under led.
Did you go through winter dormant periods or just keep a long photoperiod and warm temps?
@@DGRIFF they were always in with other plants so usually 12-18 hours of light. Since this post all of the cuttings/clones have pups and the original mother cacti I cut from have multiple foot tall pups. I did log style with a lot of the cuttings and they have grown two or three pups per.

Thanks Jerry for another great video, great to see what your seeds are capable of. Some (but not all) of the seeds I've got from you are growing very well, but it really does depend on the environment and care. I'm paranoid about over-watering and over-feeding mine as I've had other species rot, but maybe I'm being too cautious as Trichs are more resilient than some. Great to see what they will look like when bigger!
Good to hear they are growing well! When they are older they will be a lot more resilient. Younger seedlings are always more fragile.

Thanks for all the valuable information you share. I do have a question about the brightness intensity under the grow lights, which it seems you have experience with.
I have a small collection of plants. mostly consisted of lophophoras and some varieties of ariocarpuses.
I've already purchased an LED grow light (full spectrum) and a Lux Meter. but I got confused as I was researching the amount of lux that I need.
I've read articles that suggest 3000-4000 FC is required for the spineless cacti family (12-14 hours).
I've asked ChatGPT, and the result is 2000 FC (12-14 hours) for the cactis i mentioned above.
and at the moment I am keeping my plants behind a window that has about 7000 FC (but only for 5-6 hours)
I am wondering what is the best amount of light for my plants? where they can fully thrive without sunburn?
any suggestions will be appreciated. 🙏

Jerry, you might appreciate some of the techniques used by the folks growing cannabis in living soil. Coots and Mofo are the names worth checking out. I'm growing your seeds with a modified version of their method and am having great results. My established plants get the same feeding as my cannabis and love it

@@sanpedromastery6262 I'll send you some pics as the seedlings get a bit larger. For now, they're just getting light coconut water, aloe, humic acid, and yucca with each watering which isn't very often.
My older plants I have in modified Coots mix soil where I basically just swapped coco in for peat and increased the aeration component to ~50%. The bigger ones get regular doses of kelp/Neem meal, potassium silicate, and some bone powder in vinegar.
I'm about a year into this approach and I guess I'm finding once you adjust the organic content of the soil down they enjoy the same feeding schedule as light feeding cannabis.
pot size makes a massive difference, it will stop growing when in a pot too small

Without using the hydroponic method, how many times a week would you give them water, and how often would you feed them?

More than anything, it's really cool to be able to see what my new varieties will look like in the future! For that reason, I'm really glad some people are growing them at supercharged pace.

Great and extreme fast crowing results! - I prefer the opposite way- even my few month old babys go to winter-greenhouse-sleep (5-8 C) with no water. They start the spring little purple but regain fast and very healthy.

Great video! I’m feeding hydroponic solution myself and growing under lights, but I’m a bit behind reed. I’ve been feeding substantially less nitrogen, but more phosphorus.
Do you know if he keeps his phosphorus low for a reason? Is it bad if I bring my nitrogen up and leave my phosphorus high too?

I would be interested in a video about things to avoid as well. I have plenty of experience with other plants but cacti are relatively new to me and I'd like to know best what not to do. My cactus are growing but I feel they are growing much slower than they should be and I just want to eliminate possible mistakes I may be making. I'm pretty sure you've done it already but it might be helpful to see cacti at a bunch of different ages in one video to help gauge our progress since its helpful to see how big my plants should be by a certain age. Just some thoughts.
The main thing you want to avoid is high humidity. Because I have an army of plants, the humidity in the winter rises. The orchids love that but most Cacti suffer from it. Have soil which dries fast - you may need to water more often but have less risk of rotting. Wet soil increases also humidity. Respect their rest peroid and they will like YOU.
I have already done a video on typical mistakes. But I might do another one in the future, as that list was far from complete.
As for the different size plants of different ages, I might soon do a video showing the plants on my terraces and I will try to mention their ages. :)
@@sanpedromastery6262 you mentioned black spot "mold" is not an issue. I always cut the plant when I saw that. I did not know that it can recover. As you can imagine, I got many clones because of these "wrong cuts". :)
Probably the internal structure of the cacti is less dense than that of cacti having the time to grow bigger. Comparable to trees growing faster in times of climate change, i.e. due to higher CO2 concentration in the atmosphere: The wood structure get less dense (meaning that such wood is less valuable due to lower quality).

can i water with tap water if i lower ph with vinegar or lemon juice? (my tap water does not have any chlorine or fluoride or lead) it just has more minerals and higher ph.
Personally I only use tap water on my older san pedros. I just water them with the garden hose. I also collect rain water, and I use that for the younger seedlings. In both cases, I don't do anything to alter the pH. But then again I'm not aiming for peak growth like Reed does.
@@sanpedromastery6262 oh ok good to know i use mostly tap water for my seedlings aswell as i get lazy about going outside to collect rain water , i will experiment with lowering tap water ph to see if there is any difference. is your water hard? do you get any limescale?
20 years ago I put some in hydroponics, expended clay. Since I had no clue I let the dripping system run all day. I learned quickly. And if you stop feeding your plant some weeks/month before harvest, the plant should have used up the nutrients. And...an EC of nearly 4 is wicked, impressive how much they can eat! His temperature would be interesting: What is perfect?
Don't hesitate to ask Reed on instagram if you want to find out about the temperature. But personally I have not noted that they grow much faster at any particular temperature, as long as it's warm (above 24C / 75F).
@@sanpedromastery6262 thank you so much for your reply. I am just curious because I have an old Peyotle book and it claims their metabolism works best over 40°C/104. And personally I am too old to want them to grow fast. I have Physalis, Passionfruit, Tomato and maybe soon Cannabis as "fast grower" :)
@@MrEiht Lophs in habitat see a lot of 100° temperatures, just remember that there is a big difference between a plant with its roots growing in the relatively cool earth and a plant trapped in a pot, where the soil temperatures can get as hot as the air. I’m pretty sure they are a CAM metabolism plant.
San Pedro are not a desert cactus, which is why they tolerate (even enjoy) rich culture compared to desert cacti. I don’t think they’d appreciate low desert conditions.
Are you growing Physalis peruviana? The “Goldenberry”? I started some about 6 years ago using seed from a bag of dried fruit, and they’re amazing-a great snack while working in the garden. The only pest so far seems to be cutworms. They climb the bushes at night, bore a hole in the husk and eat the berries. I keep them under decent control by hand picking at night.
@@billyjack3580 lots of truth and wisdom you spread there. And yes, I am the physalis guy. But I also have passion fruit, tomato, chilli's and some herbs. Thank god the balcony is a bit bigger, but I run out of space anyway, always. Next year Cannabis plants might be allowed to be grown...then I give up, because the balcony WILL collapse :)

Great video! I would imagine anything we would use to (safely) grow cannabis that we intend to smoke would be safe to use on something you plan to eat...
That would seem logical at first, but keep in mind that a San Pedro dose weighs hundreds of times more (maybe even a thousand times more) than that tiny piece of cannabis you’ve smoked. So it’s best to exercise caution, you’ve only got one life! ;)
@@sanpedromastery6262 good point. The idea is though, is that fertilizers approved for vegetables are "safe" to eat, but the combustion of cannabis can change some chemicals into harmful things. An example would be paclobutrizol when combusted is converted into cyanide. So any plant food that I would use on anything I plan to combust, I would feel safe using on something to ingest. Or that's the notion at least among a lot of cannabis growers...

Half the cactus world: Cacti grow slowly, never give too much fert, leave it to nature, Yadda Yadda. Here our buddy reed does what I do: Fuck that advice, let's go science! 😂
Just because a cactus can survive on almost nothing doesn't mean they wouldnt prefer better conditions.
@@brianfitch5469 Absolutely. The only real issue seems their susceptibility to rot. A chili plant or tomato plant is susceptible in different ways, but it will likely in warm conditions simply eat up all the water you give it, as long as it doesn't lie in a puddle. With a cactus, you have to be more careful, warmer temperatures may also lead to rot if bacteria are present and the cactus is too wet. But that doesn't mean you cannot optimize the conditions and nutrient content... There is always something that can be optimized. I would be very interested if the same can be said for Lophs or Astrophytum which take forever to grow. Yet, they are usually said to be unncessary to water often and need only low amounts of PPFD. There may be room for improvement there.

I suppose Kelp Extract would be the one I'd be most wary of. I've had problems with Kelp Extract (and from a reputable brand) in my hydroponic systems, in the form of some root pathogens (fungi or bacteria) that must have been in the extract. I wonder if there could also be high levels of Mercury or Lead, among other things, in Kelp Extract, since Kelp is a Bio-Accumulator. I haven't looked into how well the extracts are tested since I quit using it.
I suppose maybe you could be right about synthetic fertilizers intended only for ornamental plants, but even so, there are limits on heavy metals and other harmful chemicals that are allowed to be in something you're putting into the ground. I prefer to grow consumable plants hydroponically in synthetic fertilizers specifically because I know there will be no harmful contaminants. Who knows what the levels of stuff like lead and cadmium are in someone's organic soil without testing it.
That is like to total opposite of what I have achieved.. my cacti.. 1 year old from seeds are 4 cm tall.. with the largest 5 cm.. but I'm in a relative cold country and I it's my first attempt at growing plants
Set up a grow tent or grow closet. Where you keep 18 hours of intense light a day. These things are light hogs and like intense light and need lots of food with it.
@@brianfitch5469 Well, I've been thinking about LED, but I'm not sure which light would be most suitable. I do have the smallest spider farmer unit for recently germinated seedlings.. the larger seedlings are on a sunny side at a window. But a special grow unit will not be possible in my situation
I'd be curious at to how he handles the early months of the plants. Like when do they get their first fertilizer and what strength?
Are all those fertilizers at once? Spaced out? How often? What is the soil mix?

It's ashame y'all gave up your gun rights a couple decades ago. Here in most states in the USA you would of had a right to shoot them. Only a few states would have had a issue with it.
It's ashame you have no right to self defense of yourself or your property in the UK. Luckily in my state we have stand your ground laws to defend life and property. And open carry gun laws. And your car is a extension of your house so you can carry loaded guns in them. And I don't even have to lock my cars. A armed society is a polite society. So we don't have to deal with all the crime. Only in the black areas. The truth is the truth.

In fact, I was taught to shoot by my Dad, when I was a lot younger!!
The laws are far more strict about it though, and if you have any criminal record or mental health issues,,, I doubt you can get a license.
However, the license thing is not going to stop any criminals and that's the truth.
Apart from that, I don't see what it has to do with people's colour or if I'd be comfortable with making sweeping generalizations like that.
Crime seems to be equally spread right across the spectrum,,, although, I have noticed that the prison sentences are not.
I'm mixed race, so, I guess that you may be lumping me into a "category" I would have been rather less than comfortable with...

I bet you could get the same results from using Osmocote fertilizer slow release pellets 13-13-13 for young trichoceres and magamp japan fertilizer for adults 6-40-6-15. Pellets are much easier then mixing and feeding. Osmocote and magamp only release when the temperature is high.
Wow he's doing a great job. I'm in the US so not sure the legalities but would love to respectfully try this medicine and growing but I'm in a small apartment in a colder/wet climate in western Washington.

Seems normal to me if they have a winter and are grown the natural way. The first year is always the slowest. Next year things will pick up :)

Sorry to hear that. I heard last winter in the US was insanely cold in places that are normally warm.
@@sanpedromastery6262 yes I lost half of my plants. It hasn't been that cold in over 25 years here. We don't get below 26-28 hardly at night and only for a couple weeks in winter.
