Very informative sir Marlon! I think sterilized po yung soil mix nung pot A kaya mas madaming nag-germinate..
Thanks , great video and tips on growing seeds. I just got some Gymno T Rex seeds and some variegated gymno seeds. I also got some Astrophytum Hybrid seeds. So far I have only grown some small Golden barrel cactus and Trichocereus Scopulicola X Schick seeds. They are going okay. I am using a reptile heat mats and an LED grow lamp. I am using disposable used clear plastic fruit punnets and cake containers with lids to keep the humidity up. I hope I can get them to adult size cacti.

hello sir thanks for watching! taking care of astrophytums requires more effort because they are more prone to problems as compared to gymnocalyciums and other cacti. what i would suggest for your seedlines would be: 1. regularly check them for problems like at least once a month 2. at this stage, the previous nutients avaialble during the sowing process have been depleted so you can apply minimal amounts of ferts. Use the foliar fertilizers with trace elements. the concentration must be at 25% only. Meaning if the label says taht you should mix 4 tablespoons in 1 gallon of water, just make it at 1tbsp per gallon. remember, cacti doesnt actually need a lot of fertilizers. 3. apply pesticides regularly esp fungicides (be careful with these ok). if you're not ok with chemicals you can just use neem oil for insects. 4. the seedlings must be moist. if yours is in an open environment you have to water them often. dont let them dry out. 5. no need for transpalting, wait until they really get bigger

Hey I'm trying to figure out how to grow these cactus seeds I have, I'm not sure what type of cactus the seeds are from but they are a lot bigger than the seeds you just planted. My question is can I sow the seeds I have the same way as you just showed? I think they might be Prickly pear cactus seeds? I'm not sure! Great video though thanks!💚🌿💯
I'm glad that I was able to see your video , its bee a while that I really want to try on planting seeds of this very beautiful cactus but first I have to prepare my materials first . Thank you for sharing some tips . God bless and keep safe ...
Thanks for your video. I have planted some seeds and they are near my window. They have come up, and are still very smalll, maybe 1.5 weeks old, but are a yellow colour. Are they getting too much sun? Thanks for all your kind help :-)
hello good day. I couldnt say whats actually is happening to it but cacti seedlings are relatively slow growers. if possible, would you mind sending some pics on our facebook page pls?
I've learn a lot but one quick question. When will I water them again once I'm done sowing them. Do I need to water them every week? Hope you'll answer me. Thank you.
Hello. thanks for watching. If the seedlings are enclosed, the moist will be trapped so it will take you months before you water it again. Plus the fact that the place must be away from any direct sunlight too. The soil medium must be wet before sowing the seeds. I soaked the pot with the soil during the demo. it usually takes me 2-3 months before I water them again by spraying or misting. You'll notice it anyway when the soil is really dry, the color lightens :) hope this helps
Hi, wonderful video very informative. I have sown 5 seeds of Astrophytum asterias 14 days back. Now I can see 3 seedlings in sealed polybag. Till how many days should I keep it in polybag. I have not opened it yet. After how many days should I open it. And transfer to other container

thanks for watching, I used to do that but I've stopped because there were some insecticides and fungicides that had caused a stunt in growth. You can use captan for the meantime and apply with extreme precautions pls. What kind of pests are you currently experiencing? there's something I will be explaining in our next video about that, and I'll be expounding my answer to you.
Hi po newbie in seed sowing..will try following your tips po and hopefully successful ang 1st try ko hehe..ano po yung tawag dun sa plastic na may rubber band? And saan po kayo nakabili hehe
hello! that's pretty nice ha. just follow the basics. the plastic? i bought that one from our local wet market (plastic store. usually these ate the ones that sells plastic cups). Im not sure what its called but it's just a thick plastic bag hehehe its not expensive though, 75cents per pc. If you can't find one, you can always use other plastics as long as it covers your seedlings.
Succulents and Spikes hehe puro malabo yung nakita ko kaya mahirap silipin yung plants too big naman yung clear, kaya po I reused a zip lock bag nung cottonpads hehe..hopefully po may magsprout..I placed them in a shaded area..although Im worried baka may nahulog na seed from pot nung naglagay po kase ako water natapunan yung pot and may nahulog na soil 🥺🥺
hello thanks for watching! 1. check your seeds. sometimes fungus are there even before sowing. try to soak them on a hydrogen peroxide - water solution overnight before sowing. 2. sterilize your soil via heat - oven, microwave, cooking 3. spray medium swith fungicide. if youre afraid to use it then just spray with hydrogen peroxide/water solution
Thank you so very much for you educational video. I really enjoyed it an will be on the lookout for any further videos. I am in NC and it is Dec so all my cactus are indoors right now . My home stays about 68 to 71 degrees F . Can I still plant my seeds now? Or does it need to be warmer? If so what degrees? Thank you very much for your time.
Hello Susan, thanks for watching! im glad you're enjoying the videos although i've had my hands always full of thing to do recently that i fail to make videos (sorry for this). for the seeds, you have to know whats the best temp for it. not all will have the same requirements. but i guess its better to wait for a warmer conditions like 20c-25c
hello there. Germination rate is comprised of so many factors. 1st, are your seeds fresh? rule of thumb is, the fresher they are, the more likely the would germinate 2nd, did you meet the temperature conditions? you have to research a bit about the nature of the seeds (and the species as well). mostly, seeds require 20-30 degress c. Go over or lower, then you will miss germinating them 3rd, what was your method of sowing? I mean, where did you put them on? what kind of medium? did you put it on a closed container? did it have sufficient moist? 4th, did you see fungus on the seeds 3-5 days after being sowed? this could mean that you didnt have a clean soil medium or the seeds themselves were carrying fungus. Now, here's a tip and try this. Soak the seeds overnight in a water solution with hydrogen peroxide (1tbps per liter will do).. just divide it for small quantities. hydogen peroxide helps the seed coating thin so that they could rupture easily. This also act as disinfectant.
Hi.your was very helpful it gave me a clarification, somehow. I am just starting to grow succulents and cactus, but cant seem to grow, I am probably doing the wrong thing. I have read articles and watched clips also...but confusing sometimes. When growing from seeds, do they need light or they need to be ia shaded area? Some says they need light, am confused and really I just want to see they sprout and grow. Please help. Thank you.
Follow the basics is essential and it really work..but how about sterelizing the soil..you didn't mention it..I think its the crucial part not to skip sir..Thank you..waiting for next update
Hi! I'm interested in sowing gymno and astro seeds. Glad i found your video. Beginner question if i used a close container like plastic containers with lid do i need to put holes and wrap them in plastic bag? How about sowing trays with water container is it okay to use it?
hello thanks for watching. I dont actually recommend using Vermicast only as ive tried it and it didn't go well as time went by. Mix some cocopeat or if you have peat moss, the better.
I don't have any fungicide at the moment , is sterilizing the container and soil mix enough to prevent fungus infection? And if I'm going to use a sealed container should I put holes or no? It's my first time to grow CnS from seeds and I'm quite nervous haha but I'm hoping I'd make them germinate thru your method.
Good evening, sir! Nagpunla ako ng astrophytum and gymno seeds. Yung astrophytum, in 3 days may umusbong agad na apat and yung gymno wala pa. Sa ngayon 8th day na sila, yung astro 10na yung seedlings pero yung gymno wala pa rin. Gaano po katagal bago magkaroon ng usbong yung gymno seeds? Same lang ang proccess nila. Thanks.
Can i use a stove for them to germinate then after the germination i keep them out? The temperature here is about 20C but at night it oscilates. Or 20C is enough for them to germinate? Thanks
thanks for watching! :) just a sec, you mean you want to have a hotter environment for the seedlings? to tell you honestly, 20c might work fine. there were some telling that sowing seeds are best done during the colder season. but, the best way to do that is to do a research on what kind of seeds you're gonna sow. not all requires the same environment. most astrophytum seeds can germinate easily unlike with gymno. even on gymnos, not all will gertminate well. some might require special kind of process for germination
Does soil need to be sterilize and what's the difference of dithane and fungicide can you use hot water to sterilize the soil or fungicide to sterilize your soil what is the best method im just new at planting and i start with seeds like Cactus
hello thanks for watching. there are several factors to consider but as a rule of thumb, after 6-8months that you should remove them from the plastic. That's a good question you have there.
Hi sir just a question. Do we need to sterilize the organic and inorganic soil mix first before using it? Then during germination , do we need to water the seeds in between? Thsnk you
yes you really nust sterilize everything first. I suggest mixing them all up then sterilize them. You don't need to do anything when the seeds germinate. Using the baggy method ensures that the moist would be trapped inside the plastic, watering usually takes place by the 3rd month or when you the top soil dry.
thanks for watching. As much as possible you must refrain from using any compost-type of materials or garden/loam soil as they could result to a high rate of bacterial/fungal growth even when sterilized. only 5% is actually recommended. If you can, try using other materials such as peat, they're safer
The pot B contains seed which have low germination percentage neverthless have been through same procedure as pot A. Could you tell what's inside pot B🙏
Hello boss. Well, i use whatevers availble here in our place. But as a general rule of thumb, its better if you avoid using any compost type of materials as most of the time they would result to having molds which would eventually kill off your seedlings
Thank you for sharing your knowledge, it gives me the confidence to try to grow from seed myself, I look forward to viewing more content from your Chanel 👍
Succulents and Spikes I have planted my first cactus seeds today, I will follow your instructions and with good luck and guidance they should grow. I enjoyed episode 3 yesterday, it was good too see how happy you were when you unwrapped that tray of cactus, they look so healthy. Thanks again for your help 😀
Do you ever need to water them if you keep the bag closed? For example, could I sow some seeds now, make them very damp, close them in a bag, and go away for three months?
hello angus. it you see the medium dry them by all means you really shoul open the container to water the seedlings. I wish i could post pictures here but we have a method of diliberately adding ample amount of water (which really makes the medium dry for several months).
Good day sir! After sowing the seeds and closing it with plastic, do we need to water it every now and then or just let the moisture be the source of water for the seeds?
no you dont necessarily have to open it regularly as we have to keep the moisture locked. the usual time I open them up is when 1. i need to spray water when I see that the medium is dry 2. i need to put fertilizers 3. i need to give them a dose of pesticides (if needed) or any DIY solutions
Im new in this channel question why others pour hot water to the medium sit them for a while a then when cold they put the seed its that okay doin it ? Or its okay not to do it?
Hmmm that's kinda bit strong for 30%. limit it to 5% same goes true for all compost type materials as they encourages fungus formation. Its safer to use coco peat or peat moss
hello thanks for watching. oh pink. maybe they're sun stressed but that's just fine. lessen the amount of sunlight it has. pls do not forget it's moisture, it must never be dry at all times
hello po. ask ko lang po if may chance pa mabuhay ang red mooncactus ko direct planting without rootstock. nalanta na kasi ang rootstock nya. can you pls help me revive it😊
thank you for watching, thats a good question there. I do experience the same problems as yours but I learned something to hinder it or reduce them at the minimum. In the last part of this video, I think that's the one you are referring to. I will personally discuss your question in my next video, so see you there! :)
Amazing video. Please Sir, tell me one thing. I’m sowing this ones in a close lid pot like in your video. But the pots I put in a outside green house, the pots receiving litght from CMH lamps. In your opinion, it’s best sowing in shade, partial shade or artificial lamp?
hello thanks for watching. i honestly have no experience whatsoever using artificial light though some of my friends have used it. so i really can give you any recommendations as to what's best. what i know about artificial lights is that t you are in full control of the environment. now regardless if its artificial or narural light, it's best to be in shade for the first or second month. partial shade onwards. you have to balance everything. too much light, too many algae.
hmmm it actually depends on the availability of supplies. but typically, vermicast is just 10%. plus 20% other organic materials like crushed charcoal or charred rice hull (or any organic material that you can use) pumice, perlight, sand and other Inorganic materials comprises 70% (you can always mix and match them)
Hi Melissa thanks for watching. In actually soilless potting medium is best as it has no organic matter that might cause future problems. Peat moss is also one of the best materials to be used just mix in pumice or any porous inorganic matter (perlight is good but floats in water). In any medium to be used, always remember to have them sterilized. Hope this helps
This goes the same with seed starter soils. Check what it's made for or see the ingredients. Some seed starter products might be intended for veggies and tree seedlings but cactus and succulents seedlings requires a different kind of mix, gritty or soilless is good
Love the accessibility of this technique- very affordable and easy to do
Very informative sir Marlon! I think sterilized po yung soil mix nung pot A kaya mas madaming nag-germinate..
hey, thanks for watching... hahaha shhhhh... lets just talk about the whole process in our next video ha. See you :)
Thanks sa video mo actually katatapos ko lang mag tanim ng mga seed nabili ko online sana sumibol ng maganda ....

from where can i purchase the coloured gymno seeds.
Hello.. Saan mo nilalagay ung Seed Pot mo for germination?
Bright shaded area can be subjective... ☺️ Saan mo pimapatong ung pot na plastic humid dome for germination..? ☺️ 😊
Have 2 batches but they took a lot more than 3 weeks to germinate. Not a many germinated as expected. Anyway I will stick with your method. Thankyou.
Hello sir! Thanks po sa videos niyo. Mas confident na ako mag sow ng seeds. First time ko gagawin. 😄
The video was quite informative,
Please tell how to care for four months seedlings of super kabuto
hello sir thanks for watching! taking care of astrophytums requires more effort because they are more prone to problems as compared to gymnocalyciums and other cacti.
what i would suggest for your seedlines would be:
1. regularly check them for problems like at least once a month
2. at this stage, the previous nutients avaialble during the sowing process have been depleted so you can apply minimal amounts of ferts.
Thank you so much sir Marlon 💕 nakapatubo na po ako ng first punla ko from your advices on fb... Ngayon level up na ang classes natin 😁
hahaha good luck and pls update us ok? And yes, we all have to level up. This is for our plant industry.
All the blessings will be poured to you and your family sir 💕
Thanks for the video!
Are you using pesticide in the water?
interesting that you made no mention of sterilizing or pasteurizing the soil. in my environment, I have to also provide heat to sprout seeds. its cold here in winter.

hello thanks for watching. there's none to be honest. Making a plant variegated isn't that easy. its more of a natural phenomenon
Thanks sir. Need ko na tlga matutunan to. Paubos na ang ipon ko kakabili haha

I use the baggy method as well. It is easier and no need to mess with it for months! 🙂 Do you sterilize your soil?
yes, its always a must. I use several techniques in sterilization and I will be explaining it late a 7pm (episode 2). thanks for watching
Hello... Newbie here.. Thanks for this video... It's great
When they starts to grow. How long before I'm going to get them out of the plastic Sir? Thank you

Sir Marlon may youtube po pala kayo. Sa Group ko lang po nakikita mga Gymno niyo at cactus.
may ginagamit po kayo na insecticide and fungicide sa pagsososow ng seeds?and anong brand po ang maganda gamitin?

1. check your seeds. sometimes fungus are there even before sowing. try to soak them on a hydrogen peroxide - water solution overnight before sowing.
2. sterilize your soil via heat - oven, microwave, cooking
3. spray medium swith fungicide. if youre afraid to use it then just spray with hydrogen peroxide/water solution
Buti nmn may ganito. Most of the hobyist now are using expensive mediums for seed growth. Pwede po ba ilagay sa greenhouse palibutan nlng ng net?

Thanks for the nice video brother well done. My germination rate currently is less than 0 maybe 5% so you really helped me out here
hello there. Germination rate is comprised of so many factors.

Now, here's a tip and try this. Soak the seeds overnight in a water solution with hydrogen peroxide (1tbps per liter will do).. just divide it for small quantities.
hydogen peroxide helps the seed coating thin so that they could rupture easily. This also act as disinfectant.

A was the darker side and B was exposed to more light? Is it really that big of a difference? Do they do better then in complete darkness? Thanks!

Sir saan kau nakatira sa Pinas.
Watching from singapore.
New subs sir
hey there. salamat sa pag sub ha. we're from quezon province
Hi sir! Just want to ask if it is advisable to use 50% "organikong pataba" plus 50% pumice or anong ratio po ba dapat?
thanks for watching. As much as possible you must refrain from using any compost-type of materials or garden/loam soil as they could result to a high rate of bacterial/fungal growth even when sterilized. only 5% is actually recommended. If you can, try using other materials such as peat, they're safer
@@SucculentsandSpikes thank you and noted po..
Sir saan ka po bumibili nung plastic na ginagamit nyo po??
Thank you You like Thailand.
thank you for watching!
Or need din iwater?after opening the plastic ano ang susunod gawin?
water only when you see them dry po. it's best to keep them locked for several months
Thank you! Very informative video ❤️❤️❤️
thank you for watching
The pot B contains seed which have low germination percentage neverthless have been through same procedure as pot A. Could you tell what's inside pot B🙏
Hello, thanks for watching!
the pot had the soil sterilized :)
Hi. I like your videos, why is so hard to get seeds here in the states. I'm interested in sowing my own seeds .
You are great 👍 👌
Wanna ask where to get the best soil mix you used? All of them.. thank you
Hello boss. Well, i use whatevers availble here in our place. But as a general rule of thumb, its better if you avoid using any compost type of materials as most of the time they would result to having molds which would eventually kill off your seedlings
What if the soil mix get mold in a few days??? Can i apply pesticides????
Thank you for sharing your knowledge, it gives me the confidence to try to grow from seed myself, I look forward to viewing more content from your Chanel 👍
thank you Peter for watching. I do hope you'd try sowing seeds soon. It's easy. Ill help you all through out
Succulents and Spikes
I have planted my first cactus seeds today, I will follow your instructions and with good luck and guidance they should grow.
Thanks
Put them in complete darkenss, or dim light?
Good day sir! After sowing the seeds and closing it with plastic, do we need to water it every now and then or just let the moisture be the source of water for the seeds?
no you dont necessarily have to open it regularly as we have to keep the moisture locked. the usual time I open them up is when 1. i need to spray water when I see that the medium is dry 2. i need to put fertilizers 3. i need to give them a dose of pesticides (if needed) or any DIY solutions
@@marlonvaldellon8 thank you sir
I have succulent seeds. Does it has expiration date?
After putting the seeds into the pots and bags, when do you water them?
really helpfull so easy to learn thank you for the idea
hello po. did you sterilize po the soil and pots? how did you do it po?
Which month is good for growing astrophytum seeds
how many days we need to keep the polythene bag? I mean after germination, can we remove it right then?
When you purchased on thailand po what were the documents needed to bring the plants to phil po? 😊
Pwede po bang pure cocopeat at sand lng sa pagpapatubo ng seeds?
Do you sterilize the soil? Temperature?
Thanks for watching! Yup. Very important to sterilize it. 100c ☺️
@@SucculentsandSpikes thank you. What temp do you maintain the seeds for germination and growth?
Lodi kaya pala ang busy mo Marlon..
hello! thanks! yup, have really been busy
is it okay to put growth hormone during sowing cactus seeds?
Im new in this channel question why others pour hot water to the medium sit them for a while a then when cold they put the seed its that okay doin it ? Or its okay not to do it?
Really helpful
thanks!
Hello po! Ok lang po gumamit ng 70% pumice and 30% vermicast?
Hmmm that's kinda bit strong for 30%. limit it to 5% same goes true for all compost type materials as they encourages fungus formation. Its safer to use coco peat or peat moss
Need po ba may hole if tupperware ang gagamitin?
Hi so I've followed the step and the seeds have germinated and they did grow for a while but now they're turning pink. Please help!
hello thanks for watching. oh pink. maybe they're sun stressed but that's just fine. lessen the amount of sunlight it has. pls do not forget it's moisture, it must never be dry at all times
Hats off! Will definitely watch the next video!
thanks ate jen :)
hello po. ask ko lang po if may chance pa mabuhay ang red mooncactus ko direct planting without rootstock. nalanta na kasi ang rootstock nya. can you pls help me revive it😊
I use these methods but regularly get a lot of mould and dampening off.
Do you also ?
thank you for watching, thats a good question there. I do experience the same problems as yours but I learned something to hinder it or reduce them at the minimum. In the last part of this video, I think that's the one you are referring to. I will personally discuss your question in my next video, so see you there! :)
How deep should the water be when soaking the soil?
sir what do you mean ung shaded area?ito ba ung di tinatamaan ng araw...?
theres light but not a direct sunlight exposure
Amazing video. Please Sir, tell me one thing. I’m sowing this ones in a close lid pot like in your video. But the pots I put in a outside green house, the pots receiving litght from CMH lamps. In your opinion, it’s best sowing in shade, partial shade or artificial lamp?
hello thanks for watching. i honestly have no experience whatsoever using artificial light though some of my friends have used it. so i really can give you any recommendations as to what's best. what i know about artificial lights is that t
you are in full control of the environment. now regardless if its artificial or narural light, it's best to be in shade for the first or second month. partial shade onwards. you have to balance everything. too much light, too many algae.
i hope i somehow have answered your question. feel free to message me you still need some clarification. enjoy!
How often you are watering the seeds?
we only water when we see that its dry (soil) or when there's no more water at the bottom
How much of perlight, pumice, sand and vermiculite do you use?
hmmm it actually depends on the availability of supplies. but typically, vermicast is just 10%. plus 20% other organic materials like crushed charcoal or charred rice hull (or any organic material that you can use)
pumice, perlight, sand and other Inorganic materials comprises 70% (you can always mix and match them)
Can you plant cactus seeds in any premixed 'cactus soil' or does it have to be 'seed starter' soil?
Hi Melissa thanks for watching. In actually soilless potting medium is best as it has no organic matter that might cause future problems. Peat moss is also one of the best materials to be used just mix in pumice or any porous inorganic matter (perlight is good but floats in water). In any medium to be used, always remember to have them sterilized.
Hope this helps
Premixes varies from one product to another. It's important to know the base ingredients. Try getting those without organic matter
This goes the same with seed starter soils. Check what it's made for or see the ingredients. Some seed starter products might be intended for veggies and tree seedlings but cactus and succulents seedlings requires a different kind of mix, gritty or soilless is good
