Always great videos Ray. Regarding Sense 2 vs. Pixel Watch, I don't think they intended to make Sense 2 bad, that's just how it ended up. I'm guessing it was slow removal of features one at a time after the acquisition, and they decided to release the watch anyway as an homage to whoever worked on it. But they never stopped to ask if they should release it, objectively, vs. Sense 1. I think my Pixel watch pre-order is going to have to go back unopened and I'll keep my sense 1 for another year. I'll miss out on all the google goodness for sure, and the design is really nice. But, the gap on fitbit features vs. sense 1, no temp sensor, and for an LTE version where I use AOD and track a workout day, I think battery life will be half a day rather than a full day and that just won't work. Will wait on more reviews but that's my guess. Too bad for me, I really wanted to go with the PIxel Watch. Hoping there's a V2 with lower battery consumption (=newer processor), temp senor, fitbit feature gap smaller and if they do a larger size, that will get a bigger battery too, enough to support AOD + GPS tracking + LTE for a day. Keep up the great work!!
An excellent review! I honestly love the silhouette of this watch. All of the others are the same - big and bulky. I'm not bothered that this watch is smaller. It's sleek and functional. I've ordered mine!
Beautiful looking watch and a good start, but it feels like a rough draft. Personally, I've tried Samsung, Fitbit, and Polar. Unless you need a smartwatch for notifications, which most of us really don't, a few jobs like nurses do since they can't take their cell phones on the floor - but a lot of them are just glorified heart rate monitors. I've actually gone to putting a little Polar heart rate monitor on the underside of my NATO strap with my traditional Swiss watch. I always find it faster and more efficient, although not as cool, to just pull my cell phone out of my pocket for texting and searching. And of course photos! Excellent review!
Very excited for mine to arrive. I've had a Samsung watch and I've had many Fitbit watches. This will be the best of both for me. I don't need the extra features that this lacks, it seems to have everything I am looking for. Thanks for the great review.

Yeah me too. I'm reading all the reviews playing with this thing. It's the coolest thing ever. I'm 62 years old, like cool stuff coming from the Jetsons cartoons. Finally, we just need flying cars
This is out of scope of the video, but the thing that gets me about Fitbit is the lack of dark mode in the mobile app, espeically since they offer sleep meditations as part of Fitbit Premium, so when you open the app to do a sleep meditation you're instantly blasted by a screen of white light.
Being an Apple dork myself I'm not going to buy this watch, but as a fan of technology and cool gadgets in general I gotta say this thing looks gorgeous. Very nice to see more competition in the smart watch space, that's good for everyone.
Thank you for showcasing the use case without the Premium subscription. I'm really curious how Google Fit will play out more. We've all been waiting on this Pixel Watch for so long, but I'm curious how Fossil Gen 6 or 7 will adapt Wear OS and Fit now.
You mention restlessness isn't done by competitors, but it is in the Garmin app if you tap a button. It sort of just shows restless periods and is kinda useless, not sure if the Pixel Watch presents this better, but it's there for free.
Great review so helpful! I'm looking forward to considering buying version 2. Considering abandoning Garmin as they are getting too expensive and I'm probably not going to be running marathons anymore!
The latch I feel is not a problem and should be fine if it stays. Seen many who have no problem in getting used to it. Looking forward to Gen 2, Feature Drops and Updates should improve it.
based on this review & another, while i so was looking forward to this watch, i've decided to wait for gen2 of the pixel smart watch for 3 reasons: 1. battery life too short; 2. bezel too big; and 3. apparent difficulty changing the watch bands. THANK YOU.
Some mixed feelings here. It's good that the Premium subscription benefits are very limited and do not seem like a added benefit, however I could see that maybe any new features (if and when they come) could be added in the subscription instead of the base application. The bands are proprietary and annoying. Garmin and Polar offer just regular 20-22mm bands which are a watch industry standard for years and years. However, i am happy to see they did not use any proprietary charger like Fitbit does and where each model Fitbit has a different charger. GPS accuracy is much better than I expected, but I wonder how sleep tracking will be. I'm hoping the Quantified Scientist will do an in depth review of this. Accessories not being able to pair, I expected as it's a smartwatch and activity tracker first, a sport watch second. However the Garmin Venu 2 series does support this flawlessly so maybe the Pixel Watch 2 will improve on it. Did you test afib and ECG or coming later? I'm wondering if it works well. About filling the gaps you mentioned... Always buy tech for what it is now, not for what it can be with an update later on. We never know for sure, we don't know if it will be free, and we don't know if Google even will continue developing watches. they have a bad track record of killing of services they said they were committed to (Stadia being the latest victim) EDIT: apparently the wireless charging is not Qi compatible and thus some proprietary charging, sadly. I got my wife and myself the Google Watch and changing the band isn't that difficult. Unsure if people are getting the concept of how to remove and attach the proprietary bands. I personally find it much easier and more secured than Apple's method. One major part I like about this is the Fitbit integration and seeing how accurate the heart rate compared to its competitors; very close on how it reads with the chest straps. Plus, the design is great for formal wear and doesn't get in the way wearing it with a jacket. Give Google a few years and I'm sure they'll fix all the known issues. Their first take is a good start.

I just got mine yesterday. I definitely sucks battery power but you can actually have the screen off and they just flip your wrist and it comes back on so that should probably help
It is so annoying that companies are now thinking it’s ok to make you pay a monthly subscription to use core functionalities of the device you just paid a premium for. Oura ring and now google?! If I had to pay £780 for my garmin to then have to pay £12pm just to get the data, no thanks. And if they ever start doing that then it will be coming straight off my wrist into ebay. These companies should work off the whoop business model or at least heavily subsidise the hardware if you have to pay to use the software. Makes it a little more manageable to swallow, not that I would probably ever do that as it’s exactly what put me off the whoop system in the first place. People really need to vote with their wallets and make it obvious to these guys that this type of business models aren’t ok. It’s worked in the gaming world.
The other side of this coin is, some people don't need or want the 'extra' details. My girlfriend does not need a 'sport watch' and has no interest in detailed analysis of her steps or sleep. She has a fitbit that she doesn't really like, so she doesn't wear it, but has expressed some interest in the Pixel Watch with the integrated fitbit. She occasionally goes for a walk, and likes to track her steps. The sleep monitoring is an added bonus, but she doesn't even always wear it to bed. If she had to pay 'a little more' for advanced metrics, it would probably not be worth the upgrade.
Does this watch and the WearOS system work with business systems? I want a watch that will notify me when I get a work email, or when my meeting with my boss is 5 mins out, or when a team mate messages me in our collaboration tool. Does the wearOS support MS Outlook and MS Teams?
The only thing the Pixel Watch is killing is Ray's circulation. My man tightens these watches around his wrist like my dad ratchet tightens a refrigerator to his truck bed.
I was excited for this announcement but a little disappointed at the review. Seems if you are already a Garmin user you would be downgrading moving to this watch is that correct? I moved from a Vivoactive 3 to a 4 and have so many options not offered on this watch and other options that don't require a subscription to see.
On My gw3 when going out to excercise if the screen was bright in sunlight so I can see the display, the watch would get too hot and I had to wait for the watch to cool down . before being able to track of my exercise is this an issue with the pixel watch.
So I've never owned a smart watch before. I am noticing there is a sleep monitor. So if you are intended to wear it while you sleep so it can monitor you, when are you supposed to charge it? Am I misunderstanding?
Think you were a bit too forgiving it being a first gen product as they've had all the other watches to build off, not to mention Fitbit expertise in the design of a new watch. I do like the look of it tho and if the battery life had been more fitbit than apple I might have been tempted...
Just stick with the Garmin unless you want to sell it. The reason I bought it (besides being a huge Google fanboy) is that I want to be able to have a watch (I don't wear one) that I can send texts and calls from while at work (I'm a server, so we can't have phones on us, but nothing about watches ;)
I'm glad you brought that question now because I've got it on my left arm with a little stem on the right side and I saw where you could flip it over. I never thought about flipping the whole phone over, but that's crazy of course. I'm an old guy 62, but that's very cool that you could do that. Never even envisioned that. Thanks for the question
I really don't know who to believe, to be honest. MKBHD reviewed the watch too and said the battery life was "trash". Why did you find no issues in your review and he did?
@@Dcrainmaker Thanks for the reply, lad… and my apologies for pestering you. I figured it out from his podcast, or at least I think I have: he turned on the always-on-display option, which is off out of the box.
I thought the heart rate sensor on the sense 2 and pixel was the same? So if people like Fitbit and longer battery life wait for a sense 3 and hope it gets the same hr sensor as the pixel.
I listen to UA-cam videos every night at bed, just listen to them like a podcast, don’t look at the screen. When I’m commuting or walking or jogging, too. Is there a UA-cam app that works on Pixel Watch? Or is there another way to be able to listen to UA-cam videos with this watch? I don’t like to take the smartphone out of my pocket every time I need to pause the video etc.
"[Releasing the watch band] honestly it SUCKS." Man we are so spoiled these days. In the good ol' days changing a watch band meant going into town to a jeweller or watchmaker's.
Many thanks for the review ! For me, it's clearly a no go. For this price, you have to deal with so many compromises, paywall and missing stuff that other watches don't have for the same price. Comparing this watch to fitbit is doing a favor to the pixel watch. If this pixel watch has to face other watches in the market, even other Google products, I don't think it can stand. Very disappointing, especially when you see the last google smartphones and the extra softwares built in, I was expecting something like that with this watch... We will see how the next generations will looks like.
I agree. To me it feels like the pixel 6 phone, a good rough draft. But it's not a real competitor. I went from a pixel 6, to a s22 plus. Once I shoved Bixby into the closet so to speak, the Samsung phone feels so much more refined and thought out. Same with the watches.
I don't see them dropping the way the band attaches especially with $130 and $200 metal bands coming out. All the bands will continue to be compatible for future versions just like Apple Watch bands are. Why are you showering with it? That's the best time to charge and top off.
It'll be on my black friday 2022 list seems not worth retail cost but i am needing a new watch (last fitness watch was a fitbit blaze), alo the bezel seems annoying I wish it was edge to edge
@@LukasToya you’re probably not understanding the English vernacular. Google advertises “one day”. That doesn’t mean 24 hours. They specifically avoid that bc the one day moniker means morning to night. Apple uses “hours” bc that means it’s capable of approximately a day and a half INCLUDING sleeping before needing a charge.
@@seanlinehan1136 But... 18 hours is 3/4 of a day though, not 1,5 and Google is advertising up to 24 hours, not all-day. Still. Both are quite inferior to Garmin and the likes. You trade a great UI and features, for limited battery life I guess. 🤷🏼
It sounds like someone on r/GooglePixel confirmed you can wireless charge without the puck, even utilizing Pixel phone's battery assist features to share between phone and watch. Product compatibility with the *shape* of the watch would be a concern, though. I can't imagine it will be all that stable on some charging stands.

@@nightoftune I have a Galaxy watch 5 and 4. The battery life of the Google pixel watch It's OK so far. After a week of using it I can give you a better info about the battery life. The battery of the watch needs to be charged a few times until the watch battery reaches the maximum potential. So far I am in love with this beautiful looking watch. It's a little bit overpriced. But every smartwatch for me is overpriced.
What is the best way to integrate any activity that i do on my Garmin Forerunner, with the pixel watch / Fitbit eco system? I think i will use my pixel watch on a daily basis and my Garmin if it is likely that the watch could get bashed, or i am going to the sauna/steam room. I do I love my Forerunner 245, but for daily smartwatch use i have been looking forward to the Google pixel watch, because i have a Google Pixel phone, so an Apple Watch is out of the question.
24 hours of battery life isn't great to begin with, but it's especially not it for a watch that prides itself in good sleep tracking. How are you gonna track sleep if it lasts just shy of a day? If you charge it before going to bed, you have to stay awake waiting for it to be fully charged. Falling asleep before = no sleep tracking. If you charge it in the morning you have to remember it early enough, otherwise you have to leave for work when it's only at 35% and even if you do it correctly, in the evening it will be a gamble whether the remaining % will make it through the night for a complete sleep tracking. I've been there, with a (different) wearOS watch that also only had 22-24 hours of battery life. The only real fix is to charge twice a day, which is a dreadful experience. Ever since that watch it's multiple days of battery life or GTFO for me.
Google is not a start-up, it is one of the biggest companies in the world and owner of Fitbit, so trying to justify the shortcomings of this PW by the fact that it is their 1st attempt is nonsense. There's really no way I'd choose this Pixel Watch over the GW5. This Pixel Watch is an GW active 1 Gen 2 at $350 + $80 per year in 2022 🤦🏽♂️ The GW4 is easily found around $150 currently. The only thing I would have liked to see on the GW5 is the rotating crown, the digital rotating bezel is not really optimal.
That premium and non-premium stuff blows. Honestly, what trip is Google going? Either I buy the watch and pay once or I don't, I don't want to marry it and share my salary with it you know!
Yes. Yes. All is well. More importantly: it so occurs that "we" are getting married soon - does anybody have any idea what's the very sleek looking wedding ring that he's wearing? :)
I always thought these smartwatches are very redundant when you have a smartphone. which you also need when using a smartwatch to have full usage of it? I mean, I rather watch on my phone for messages or weather or whatever than fiddling on this tiny watch. Or, just use something like the Pixel Buds, which have such functionality too, and almost everybody uses some kind of earphones for at least music. So there is that. When I wanted something for fitness I would buy a dedicated fitness band, they are much more capable than smartwatches. Especially, this SW costs almost 400 bucks? Way too overpriced if you ask me.

Much more positive review than I expected.
Did you try just moving your wrist without walking and see if the steps changed?
It took me like two minutes to understand how to change the band in all honesty. Compared to normal spring bar tools it's laughably easy
@DCRainmaker Can you pair a HR monitor chest strap with the Pixel Watch?
Not to the Fitbit app, but you can to 3rd party apps.
So... If I'm going to use this at work, and while I exercise, and to monitor sleep, exactly when am I supposed to charge it?
Hope it's good, FedEx says mine comes next Tuesday 🙂
How about pixel watch GPS accuracy test?
Great review. But I’m a Garmin super fan.
This gonna be interesting. A round watch is nice looking
On My gw3 when going out to excercise if the screen was bright in sunlight so I can see the display, the watch would get too hot and I had to wait for the watch to cool down . before being able to track of my exercise is this an issue with the pixel watch.
Trying to find one pic on the net for the watch in light mode so I can see how huge the frame is ? I can’t find any
From what I have seen there is no light mode.
Wish the battery life was better, but I still can't wait to use it!
So I've never owned a smart watch before. I am noticing there is a sleep monitor. So if you are intended to wear it while you sleep so it can monitor you, when are you supposed to charge it? Am I misunderstanding?
Charge it before going to sleep. Honestly it's a hassle that's charging it twice a day. Pain
Put it to charge when you are in the shower. 80mins to fully charge 0 to 100.
That’s what I do. After I workout I toss my Apple Watch on the charger while I take a shower. Not a big deal.
Charge it an hour before you go to sleep or whenever you dont need to use it, it's not that hard lol
Think you were a bit too forgiving it being a first gen product as they've had all the other watches to build off, not to mention Fitbit expertise in the design of a new watch. I do like the look of it tho and if the battery life had been more fitbit than apple I might have been tempted...
Really debating picking one of these up, but can't see myself giving up my Garmin for workouts. So could end up carrying two devices.
Can the face of the watch be flipped over so it can be worn on the right wrist, so the stem/dial faces the hand instead of pointing down the arm?
Yup! Two different settings options for that.
Is there a lefthanded mode?
Yup. You can choose both which hand, and which side you want the Digital Crown on.
I really don't know who to believe, to be honest. MKBHD reviewed the watch too and said the battery life was "trash". Why did you find no issues in your review and he did?
I said it met spec, which it does, it lasts 24hrs, which is what they advertised.
@@Dcrainmaker Oh, I’m not suggesting that your review is incorrect, I’m just wondering why MKBHD found it to be so bad.
@@kevinmcguinness6526 I haven’t watched his video yet, perhaps he was using LTE variant, versus me with non-LTE.
It's like buying a watch that tells time but if you want also the second hand please make a subscription. Are you kidding me?!
Does pixel watch sync with my fitnesspal?
You can pair this with Peloton using Heart for Bluetooth. Hopefully Peloton gets around to making a native app though.
Company will properly be bankrupt by end of month. Doesn't look good for them.
Where does he talk about battery life? Chapters would have been really helpful in this video
2m 6sec. Not that hard to find.
Without intending to compare watches, but how can Huawei come up with watches with batteries that last two weeks?!
"[Releasing the watch band] honestly it SUCKS." Man we are so spoiled these days. In the good ol' days changing a watch band meant going into town to a jeweller or watchmaker's.
I'm not comparing things to years ago, I'm comparing them to every other sports watch on the market today.
Are the steps accurate?
I don't see them dropping the way the band attaches especially with $130 and $200 metal bands coming out. All the bands will continue to be compatible for future versions just like Apple Watch bands are.
Why are you showering with it? That's the best time to charge and top off.
Not going to buy one, but it's got to be the most beautiful smart watch on the market by some distance.
It'll be on my black friday 2022 list seems not worth retail cost but i am needing a new watch (last fitness watch was a fitbit blaze), alo the bezel seems annoying I wish it was edge to edge
I can't get over the one day battery life. How does that work with sleep tracking??
Apple Watch is 'up to' 18 hours battery life. 🤷🏼
Do you sleep all day 🤷♂️
@@LukasToya I have the same problem with the apple watch. But compared with Fitbit and Garmin, different category
Thanks
So no wireless charging without the puck?
That might be a dealbreaker for me. Garmin's proprietary charging cable is bad enough.
Galaxy Watch, Apple Watch, all work the same way - proprietary charging puck.
@@EnterSpacebar I had read that the galaxy watch 5 had standardized wireless charging
Yeah, I saw the Reddit threads with someone making it work on a battery bank. I tried my Anker battery bank here, and it didn't work at all. :-/
I have two things I don't like
1 they make you use Fitbit
2 the bezels make the screen to small
Pixel Watch or Garmin Venu 2 Plus?
Garmin Venu 2 plus…far longer battery life
Its good that they have the HR accuracy better than fitbit.
People complaining about changing the bands really are special. All it is, "push and slide off" 😑
The battery life and paywall behind fitbit premium prevents me from considering this watch. But nonetheless good first try.
I just got mine today. I'm super impressed. if you're a pixel phone, pixel buds user you'll be happy with the Pixel watch.
coming from a sense 1, I'm surprised at how bad the sense 2 compared in your graphs. weird!
Yup, Sense 1 was far better for me as well.
Do you know it the face can be flipped over so it can be worn on the right wrist with the dial facing the hand instead of down the arm?
@@tonybasoni8443 Yes you can. You can change the adjustment on the phone. I didn't understand how that worked till I saw the question and that makes sense. That's pretty cool though
Hi Ray
Will this watch without Fitbit premium give you irregular heart rate alerts or Afib warning via the ECG?
Even with premium, you won't get those notifications
@@TheNewbTube7 that's nuts when Apple watch and Samsung watch are both capable of this 🤷♂️
Correct, no notifications behind the scenes, just if you do an ECG manually.
@@Dcrainmaker wow so no irregular heart rate warnings?
@@love2wheels748 not as of now
I have the Samasung Galaxy Watch 4 and it works well, thought of getting this one which will pair up well with the Pixel 6 I got however I saw the bezels and I freaked out and said no!
Same situation as you but it's the battery that is putting me off from getting the Pixel Watch.
I guess you guys didn't watch the video. Battery life same as apple, Samsung and bezel is a non issue in practice.
@@marksnidero9591 Sorry but coming from a Samsung watch that lasts 3 days between charges to having to charge once a day is a deal breaker for me. I'll wait until they release a version with the bigger battery.
Thank you so much for the great review video about the Pixel Watch. I got my watch today and I'm in love. It's such a beautiful piece of equipment. I used the 5th sense 1st generation and the Galaxy watch 5 before. The pixel watche is way much better.
Can you eleborate a little bit. Im coming from a galaxy watch 4 and im on the edge if i switch to the pixel watch. How is battery life?
@@nightoftune I have a Galaxy watch 5 and 4. The battery life of the Google pixel watch It's OK so far. After a week of using it I can give you a better info about the battery life. The battery of the watch needs to be charged a few times until the watch battery reaches the maximum potential. So far I am in love with this beautiful looking watch. It's a little bit overpriced. But every smartwatch for me is overpriced.
@@perriconemdbeauty43 can you download the whats app app on to this watch?
@@MissSmurfey No, it's not available on any smartwatch.
My man…the Pixel watch is not better than the Galaxy watch 5….
Watch the other review. The battery life is mediocre, some review even down to 12 hours
Google is not a start-up, it is one of the biggest companies in the world and owner of Fitbit, so trying to justify the shortcomings of this PW by the fact that it is their 1st attempt is nonsense.
There's really no way I'd choose this Pixel Watch over the GW5.
This Pixel Watch is an GW active 1 Gen 2 at $350 + $80 per year in 2022 🤦🏽♂️
The GW4 is easily found around $150 currently.
Amazfit GTR 4 blows this away
Most smart watches do
I always thought these smartwatches are very redundant when you have a smartphone. which you also need when using a smartwatch to have full usage of it? I mean, I rather watch on my phone for messages or weather or whatever than fiddling on this tiny watch. Or, just use something like the Pixel Buds, which have such functionality too, and almost everybody uses some kind of earphones for at least music. So there is that. When I wanted something for fitness I would buy a dedicated fitness band, they are much more capable than smartwatches. Especially, this SW costs almost 400 bucks? Way too overpriced if you ask me.
Hey I'm 62 years old born in 1960. All this cool stuff. We couldn't even envision from watching the Jetsons as a kid. It's just cool. Fun stuff. I just got my Google watch. I love it
