Curious - from your testing, have you noticed a big difference in GPS accuracy between the LTE vs. WiFi editions of the same watch? Does having LTE improve it at all? $100 feels like a big jump...

There's no reason it shouldn't be able to do it considering it has the exact same hardware. Google software locking this would make them no better than apple
They eventually pushed many of the PW 2 features to the PW 1. And those had different hardware regarding health tracking. With the Watches this time being similar in that aspect, I highly think they'll give them to us.

as long as they still use sd on the pixel watch, I think it will have the same 3 years updates... sucks but that's all we're gonna have to deal with until Google can make their own soc of the pixel watch... If PBP2 gets its own A1 tensor why not pixel watch???
Ray you are a Strava user. It would be interesting for you to review the Strava App that runs on the Pixel Watch. It can send Strava Beacon from the LTE watch (with no phone present) so my family knows where I am running. Compared to my FR 945 LTE Live Track it does not seen as reliable or updated as often. I moved to a 965 so rely on Beacon. Even though I have to wear a 2nd watch the LTE allows calling and texting that cannot be done with the 945. I use a Pixel phone and Google Fi so the Pixel Watch is my best option.
I need a watch that can 1) Run the Strava app with auto-pause and audio feedback, and 2) Stream podcasts and You Tube Music over cellular with a very efficient UX and with no need to bring your phone. The Apple Watch's YT Music app can't stream, so I'm hoping this is the one.
Are you able to transmit your location from the LTE watch without the BT connection to the phone? In other words, can I go for a walk without my phone, with my family getting an accurate measurement from the Google Maps “share real-time location” feature?

Ray, comparing to other self defining 'devices scientists' you continue to be the most serious and knowledgeable reviewer of health and sport devices. Anyway, I'm an happy FR255 owner and I was wondering if buy a newer Garmin watch such as FR 265. I'm also a Pixel 7 owner and I personally love the Google devices ecosystem, so your first insights convinced me to buy a Google Pixel Watch 3, because finally it seems that Big G steered toward a more serious sports watch. Anyway, Fitbit app is still really ugly, and for my training I will still use FR255 and Garmin coaching.
Google store seems to be suggesting the structured workouts won't be coming to the older watches. Considering it's clearly just down to software that's very disappointing. Even Apple aren't that bad. If Garmin ever release a cellular forerunner/fenix watch I'd imagine it's going to completely decimate the Pixel and Apple watch sales.
@@sturdyvw The reality is, a lot more people are moving towards Apple Watches , and Wear OS watches, the full intergration with iOS and Android just makes them really tempting, the general consumer could care less about battery life, as Apple Watches dominate Smartwatch sales show.
@@sturdyvw I'd forgotten about the 945 LTE - it was weird a implementation though, I think if it was done nowadays ('fully smart') the take up would be significantly better. Especially if they covered more countries (UK in particular). I see a lot of runners wearing two watches (Garmin and either Pixel/Apple Watch) just so they can have the connectivity without carrying a phone. Will be interesting to see what (if anything) does actually trickle down to the older Pixel watches -- would definitely be willing to dust off my Pixel Watch 2 if it gets structured workouts.
I'm glad to see that there are more people thinking this. I switched from Forunner 745 to Galaxy Watch 6 LTE only to have the ability to send text and make phone calls leaving the phone at home. If Garmin would implement this I would definitely go back to Garmin since as running watch Samsung is much worse.
I haven’t been able to find this data myself, however if it doesn’t I won’t be bummed out. My trainer/power meters still link up to my phone or garmin cycling computer.

Which WearOS watch would you recommend for a multi-sport endurance athlete? I'm leaning towards the Ticwatch Pro 5 Enduro because of the battery life, but the Pixel 3 and Galaxy 7 look pretty good too. I liked my Suunto 7 until the text messaging stopped working with the latest Android update and I have major screen burn making it tough to read.

Quick question about the battery saver mode, you said in the video that the tilt-to-wake gesture still works in battery saver mode (i.e. the display activates when you raise your wrist)... Are you sure this is accurate? I'm just asking this because the Pixel Watch 2 also has a battery saver mode and this disables BOTH the always-on-display AND the tilt-to-wake gesture. Would be interesting to know if they actually changed this for the PW3.

Can you not sync the fitbit app with a third party app to bypass the fsct you cannot export the data via the app? Thst way you can compare the metrics with other devices?
Now, Apple not only has to catchup to Garmin, Polar and such, but even to WearOS. Strange... A lot has to do with the HRM which is only tracks HR (and HRV) is irregular patterns. Perhaps the new watch next month will come with a new, 24/7 hrm and Apple builds on the features shown for next WatchOS, adding comparable stuff.
Not WearOS. Pixel Watch. No other WearOS watch gets these features because no other WearOS watch can use Fitbit. Google is trying to create an Apple-like ecosystem and they're leaving their partners in the dust as a result.
Im glad my life does not revolve around the nano features of the battery operated device on my wrist. My Casio ran continuous for up to 2 years on a battery, and never became obsolete due to software limitations. Now the rings are here to further distract you all from any thoughts, or safe driving possible.
Just finished my first run today with the pw3 and there was no map in Fitbit app and the GPS was connected. Halfway through the run I saw it connecting again. Any idea what settings I should try to make this work? The entire reason I purchased this was to not have my phone with me!

So what can the watch do without the fit bit stuff , not all of us are able bodied , and just want a step tracker and maybe a a heart rate recorder to on a graph to see if we are going to die next week , you know , don't really need a subscription for the most basic stuff , even my iPhone has a step counter on it , not really sure about my 8 pro .

Well that sucks. I was hoping they would have solved the battery issue. Heck, my 5yr old TicWatch Pro LTE still gets me a full 2-day battery life with all data features turned on!!! In essential mode I still get about 30 days before having to charge it again. Since Ticwatch no longer offer LTE because of the US banning Chinese cellular conectivity wearables, I guess I'm screwed. I hope One Plus watch 3 LTE gets released in the US but I highly doubt it.
Is the Heartrate accurate (tickwatch 5 fails here)? can you start a new excercise without having to end the previous excercise (Samsung does this well)?
Funny maps isn't one of the strong points of the pixel watch when Google maps is extensive o data. Google should've gave is double the storage 1.5 display and a bigger batter 500mah. I hope they don't expect people to leave their Samsung and Apple ecosystems to give it up for Google with this option. overall the watch game is getting better. 👍 thanks
Looking forward to your full review and tests. The Pixel Watch 2 was by far the worst Smart Watch I've ever owned. The speaker was absolutely terrible, the bezels huge and the screen too small. Then there was the activity tracking.... every single GPS run or walk I tracked lost GPS at around the halfway mark and never recovered, resulting in a straight line back to my start point.
@@Manuel-rl6um yeah not for me. Pulled mine out of the drawer and updated it and did 2 walks with it. First wasn't too bad. The 2nd is still in progress and lost GPS 20 min ago and still says "GPS connecting" even though I've been in wide open spaces the whole time. It's completely unusable as a fitness device
Hi 911 Dispatcher here...Question for the new "Loss of Pulse" feature... how accurate is the GPS when compared to the apple watch ultra? I ask this because I work in a rural area, and the cell service in some of our areas isn't the best, especially on our hiking trails near the Blue Ridge Parkway. If it isn't accurate, we could possibly send emergency personnel to the wrong area, furthering delay of care. If anyone can help me with this please respond!
Does it connect to an external heart rate strap? I am very impressed with this. I would actually pick this over Samsung even though I have a Samsung phone. I don't understand with these companies... there's no target goal... If you're training for an ultra, probably a day walking round london is going to be more beneficial than if you have a 5k PB target coming up soon.
Certainly a step up on the fitness parts from the Pixel Watch 2 which was completely trash. Looking forward to the full review and maybe a side by side with some of Garmin's offerings
The Apple watch has been so stagnant for many years. The UI is probably the least intuitiv ui apple has ever done. Its only good for Fitness Tracking and payments. I really hope they redo the apple watch someday and make it as smart as the pixel watch. I would switch to it if i could.
The pixel watch 3 is a joke. 1) can't change notification sounds. 2) can't start a new message from the message app, unless you know the phone number. 3) can't get a notification when you go out of range your phone.
If they said it's a watch for runners, it had better have the long battery life to support such a claim. It should at least last a full marathon for most runners. Yes, as a runner I'm more impressed by the sports watch features than the smartwatch ones.
Sadly - yawn, not a runner. Was hoping it would broadcast HRM to my Wahoo but figured even if it did it would still be encrypted in the same "nobody ever asked for HRM encryption" way as the Charge. My first gen Pixel watch still gets me through the day with 50% battery left. But it has some bad scratches so maybe the right sales and some trade in will be motivation to upgrade but that's about it.

Are structured workouts only for running? Would really want to be able to combine any number of different types workouts.

The GPS issue got fixed for me beginning this year after an update. It works perfectly now and locks so much faster

GPS uses the internal GPS chipset, not cellular coverage. Thus, accuracy is within 10-15ft.
Does it have the EKG like the Fitbit sense 2? and can it detect if you're in afib?

The Apple watch has been so stagnant for many years. The UI is probably the least intuitiv ui apple has ever done. Its only good for Fitness Tracking and payments. I really hope they redo the apple watch someday and make it as smart as the pixel watch. I would switch to it if i could.

The pixel watch 3 is a joke. 1) can't change notification sounds. 2) can't start a new message from the message app, unless you know the phone number. 3) can't get a notification when you go out of range your phone.
Pixel Watch 3 or Apple Watch 10?

If they said it's a watch for runners, it had better have the long battery life to support such a claim. It should at least last a full marathon for most runners. Yes, as a runner I'm more impressed by the sports watch features than the smartwatch ones.
Even the Pixel Watch 2 already had 8-10hrs of GPS time.
I need weeklong battery life in a Pixel. Until then... No.
Sadly - yawn, not a runner. Was hoping it would broadcast HRM to my Wahoo but figured even if it did it would still be encrypted in the same "nobody ever asked for HRM encryption" way as the Charge. My first gen Pixel watch still gets me through the day with 50% battery left. But it has some bad scratches so maybe the right sales and some trade in will be motivation to upgrade but that's about it.
They should make an even bigger one... something like 51mm
