I mean I had always just assumed it was a skit, lie detector's don't even really work when used correctly anyway so I assumed it was for a funny video. Like if you watch any of those videos it's kinda obvious that the answers are a bit too perfect for comedic value. I'm really surprised there was actually people who thought it was real lol

Yea, there was never any reason to assume that it was actually a real test, much less that the answers were accurate. Legitimate polygraphs typically are not considered valid evidence in court cases. I know some employment processes may use them as part of the screening process, but even then they are generally not reliable enough to be the final decision maker in the matter.
@@madmatt9114 As a fun fact some states use lie detectors for people who have been charged with some crimes not because they actually tell if it's a lie or not, but because people are much less likely to lie when they think it will be detected.

The most shocking thing to me is that anyone needed Scott’s video to know that the tests he does aren’t real. I genuinely thought most people knew that these were for entertainment purposes only and that lie detector results are not accepted as fact. But maybe it’s because I used to watch Jerry Springer too lol. Learned something new today!
Yes but the point is that this wasnt even remotely up to the standard of a real lie detector test. Not that lie detector tests are generally not fact (which I mean, if done well they're pretty good.) And also that they could rig the test with a tap of the foot.
@@fatnose0 They’re not pretty good at all lol. There’s a reason why they’re banned for use by law enforcement in almost every civilised country except the America. They’re literally slightly more accurate than a coin flip are just over 50%. If they actually worked to tell lies every country on earth would use them and crime would always be punished. There’s so many variables in human behaviour and physiology that it’s impossible to tell if you’re lying based on physiological responses. It’s even worse that you’ve got a human who is reading the supposed data and subjectively analysing it, when if the data was actually accurate a computer could determine that. You get 5 polygraph “experts” and show them the exact same data, and they all have different answers, because they’re all taught different ways of analysing it. It’s nothing but pseudoscience. The only way it’s useful is if the person being tested thinks it’s real, and is scared into telling the truth. But that can be done with a photocopy machine as shown by one police officer. He would put the defendants hand on the machine and press copy, and then look at the photocopy and say “see you’re lying” and the dude actually believed it and told him the truth.

Shane Dawson fakes the excitement/fear/amazement/etc. in every video. To say he plays it up is an understatement. There's nothing genuine about how he acts in videos, it's all a fabricated persona to make up for the lack of interesting foundation to his videos.

I'm glad you talked about the behind the scenes of working with this guy because now if any youtuber (or celebrity lol) wants to pull an "i didn't know it wasn't legit!!" people can just reference this video can call them out on their lie
Something that's important to remember about all lie detectors is, no matter how advanced the device is, it can not detect an actual lie, it can only detect when someone body reacts to a question. If you believe something to be true, then the detector will say you're saying a truth, additionally if someone asks a weird question, even if you're not lying, the detector can tag it as a lie because you react nervous because it's a weird question.

I mean polygraphs are well known to be almost entirely if not completely useless. There are real people who can accurately predict or 'read' certain body language tells or signs that might indicate one way or the other but polygraphs are the stereotype 'lie detector' so my immediate assumption was that he's just a funny guy making content using his silly machine. Thanks for sharing his disclaimer because the truth is quite boring and when you're making content, not committing murder, boring is not good.

When I renewed my TS SCI clearance the polygraph kept showing I was trending toward lying when asked if I have ever sold top secret information to foreign governments or foreign entities. Turns out the word sold was causing me to have a different mental reaction, when he changed the wording to "have you ever received payments, or favors of any nature in exchange for classified information of any nature from a foreign government or private entity" I was fine.

I thought it was a known thing that the results of these lie detector tests were at least fudged. Lie detector tests take a while, and they have to have a little time to actually read the output from the machine... idk, maybe that's just because I took a course about this stuff. I still find the videos entertaining, but I don't hold the answers as truth. Especially since true polygraph tests can give false reads. Lol
