Normally artists offer their own rendition, their own take on a song that they would cover...Led Zeppelin offered their own completely different renditions and utterly different takes on their own music when they performed...and oh hell yeah they performed ... 4 for me 3 at the LA Coliseum and 1 in Long Beach...all beyond mind blowing
Saw Zep live in 1979 at Knebworth, UK. What were they like? L-O-U-D! In fact, they had just replaced The Who in the Guinness Book Of Records as the Loudest Band In The World. Bonzo was a hard livin', hard-working, man and certainly one of the best Rock drummers ever.
Really? First time I've heard that. I saw The Who at Lewisham in 1981, and that was deafening, it actually affected my hearing for the rest of the night. Charlton may have held the record...but that was open-air. At least there was somewhere for the sound to go!
@@leematthews6812 I saw The Who in 75, on their 'Who put the boot in?' tour of football grounds. In 78, I went to see Zappa and The Tubes at Knebworth and Keith Moon died the day before. Good to know they got another drummer and carried on though.
I live about 45-50 miles southwest of New York city, just a short train ride to Penn Station and short walk across the street to Madison Square Garden. They played there a number of times in the seventies, probably the most well known was 3 night stand in 1973 used in "The Song Remains the Same". '73 I wasn't quite old enough, the latter shows I just never got tickets. You know back in the old days you actually had to stand in a line, in person to buy any. Work kinda got in the way.
I saw Jimmy and Robert in 1994 on their No Quarter tour. When the Levee Breaks is the first zeppelin song I played. Kashmir is my favorite song from that night.
Yes I saw them live at Wembley Stadium in London in the early 70s. Also in the audience that night was Cathy Rich and her Dad she dragged along.. Buddy!
Gotta get some of that Jimmy Page dual neck guitar next time. 78'/79' they were doing things like midnight movies with Rocky Horror Picture Show, Heavy Metal Noise and of course Zeppelin Song remains the same! Great time to be alive.
I saw them in here in the UK in 1973. earls court 1975, both Knebworth shows in 79 and the O2 reunion show in 2007. Bonham was the greatest drummer. Zep the greatest band.
Ooo live stuff Check out sick again Seattle 3.21.75 and over the hills and far away from that show If you want a video of sick again if search les zeppelin sick again live 1977. A collage video had been put together. Solid performance
Hi Colby. I’m enjoying your reactions! I’m a drummer and played professionally for 30 years. It seems you are into Buddy Rich…..and if you really want one of his very best, especially the sound of his drums which were really well recorded, look up the Germany Cologne concert, West Side Story. His big band playing and dynamics are astounding. I was lucky to see him many times and even said hello one night. Also put drummer Tony Williams on your list. Drum prodigy, played with Miles Davis at 16 years old. Try reacting to the track “Fred”.. you’ll never hear drumming like that! Cheers!
This is a different live concert than is usually shown. I think I like this one better. Bonham best drummer ever. I grew up listening to Led Zeppelin. I never got to see them in concert, too young.
Led Zep at Knebworth. Best gig I ever saw. Not *their* best gig, I know...but I still haven't seen anything to beat this over the past four and a half decades.
Thunder: listen to Led Zeppelin immigrant song 72 live or BBC 71 Live finesse 73 Msg: No Quarter, whole lotta love + medley Flair Sick Again: 3.21.75, or LA 77 (collage video), Over the hills and faraway 3.21.75 Groove: in my time of dying earls court 75
Yes I’m in my 60s it was great times if you look close about in the middle 10th row, you’ll see me with two girls on both sides and joint in my fingers 🤣
I saw them in Chicago in the 70s. Their live performances never were as tight as their studio work and I felt something was lost. Also, I sat in an opera box so the sound was not balanced, and that affected how I percieved the show.
@@unstablegenius2325 Yes, it was a great crowd, the energy was high, and it was Led Zeppelin. From our box I was looking down on the band, probably 50 feet away.
Yes he is definitely among the best his timing and spot-on and I might add that there are probably tens of thousands of spot on timing drummers out there that are unknown...........
I know John is one of “greatest”..... his style is grace and strength! The thunder of the gods! The Goats..Period! The sound on this live version wasn’t the best. It sounded like mono🤷🏻♂️😎
Check out the studio version. Or Madison Square Garden here. ua-cam.com/video/ZDycnxd1Mko/v-deo.html The version you posted, although awesome, pales in comparison.
I wonder, if bands from back in the 70s had known people would be watching and analyzing their performances, they might have cut back on all the coke and heroin. I like Led Zep but man this is sloppy.
do the original first if you do not know a song listen to the original that was what was famous not a live ruined by arena sound -yes saw them twice =great
Saw them 3 times in NY. One of the greatest live acts I’ve ever seen. High energy for 3 hours. Great stuff.

So much groove… looks like a late 70s performance so they’ve played it so many times that they’re completely free to play around with it now
Whole Lotta Love live at Madison Square Garden is their best. It's almost 20 minutes and ended the show. If you like this you'll love it.
👌🏻
I was there !!truly incredible ! RIP John Bonham, absolutely the greatest on drums ❤

Live performance of "Achilles Last Stand" will remove all doubt as to Bonham's G.O.A.T. status.
That song fuckin' rules.
Achilles is my favourite song of all time. So glad I got to hear them play it at the Knebworth gigs.
@@leematthews6812 Oh wow... I'm jealous!
Oh man!! Watch Achillies!! Crazy drumming!!
Yes I saw them live at Wembley Stadium in London in the early 70s. Also in the audience that night was Cathy Rich and her Dad she dragged along.. Buddy!

John Bonham and Mitch Mitchell were my 2 biggest influences when I first started playing drums as a kid.
I saw them between the first and second albums: amazing. Bonham was an excellent drummer
I have never saw Zeppelin live. I do own their albums. Great band and Bonham is the greatest rock drummer that ever lived.
knebworth 1979 saw them... so good travelled back 150 miles for the 2nd show the following week.
All off the cuff. The goats. And yes Imo Bonham is the best.
Exactly, Off the Cuff,..Kings of IMPROV....👍
John bonham was a God on drumming also if you look up johns drumming he created his own style of playing huge zepplin fan!
I saw them in here in the UK in 1973. earls court 1975, both Knebworth shows in 79 and the O2 reunion show in 2007. Bonham was the greatest drummer. Zep the greatest band.
surprised you didn't watch their MSG live performance

This song live at Madison Square Garden! 🔥
Always amazing!!!
Yes I’m in my 60s it was great times if you look close about in the middle 10th row, you’ll see me with two girls on both sides and joint in my fingers 🤣
Love this tune
I saw them in Chicago in the 70s. Their live performances never were as tight as their studio work and I felt something was lost. Also, I sat in an opera box so the sound was not balanced, and that affected how I percieved the show.
I wish I was there.

best child I've ever seen play guitar Eddie VH lol !!!!!
I saw them 4 times.

OMG this is amazing its so off from the studio version , must see 1970 live version
John Henry Bonham,...👍#1
Don’t watch Moby Dick live at the Royal Hall in 1970 then if you don’t think Bonzo is flashy.
I know John is one of “greatest”..... his style is grace and strength! The thunder of the gods! The Goats..Period! The sound on this live version wasn’t the best. It sounded like mono🤷🏻♂️😎
Peart is the best, and Bruford his hero--but nobody kicks you in the prostate like Bonham.
Correct, Rock N Roll, NOT, Heavy Metal 👍

Just watch the interplay and improvisation in the Madison Square Garden clip. LEGENDS!
Or better yet, watch how he murders hist set entirely in this very early 1970 clip. Astounding!!!
My opinion yes Bahnam was the greatest
they were teenagers on this recording
Ha! And this is not even their best performance 😊
Yep, maybe Earls Court comes close? Sure glad they captured that on video!
I wonder, if bands from back in the 70s had known people would be watching and analyzing their performances, they might have cut back on all the coke and heroin. I like Led Zep but man this is sloppy.
Bonham was great but Neil Peart is the GOAT...
