I hate fixing sinks to plasterboard. If I couldn't get timber behind them I normally only use one strong screw and heavy-duty plasterboard fixing per bracket to prevent the plasterboard from bursting out when the drill holes are that close together and plenty of sticks like sh!t, Enjoying your videos, it's good to see the mistakes and problems on jobs included, we learn a lot from them. Some other channels would have us believe they are perfect 1st time on every job. Good stuff 👍🏼
hi tom great way to get around the fixings problem with the wash basin glad you got your impact driver back as ever all my support mate look forward to more videos
Looked good Tom , very tidy as always, and shows the struggles of us plumbers, nothing ever goes right, as my old gaffer used to say “ you need a bag of miracles “ as well as tools to be a plumber, not wrong was he , take care 🚽👍
There is nothing worse than a phone call saying somethings wrong, it's way harder to sort second time around so it might as well be right first time, thanks for the support Alan
As always with you Tom, with th sink fitting nice to see a proper professional who knows when something is not right and doesn't try to bodge it and walk away but does it right and reinforces your reputation. It is a pity when you do see the bodgers who are cheaper and get away with it leaving the customer out of pocket and having to pay twice to get somepne like you to sort out issues.. Bummer on the broken cistern - so annoying when that happens!
Thanks for the support as always John, I was proper annoyed with the broken cistern, they don't package them well enough and they get chucked about in the warehouses
Well done for taking the basin off and fixing it to some ply, I bet at least 50% of people would have left it and also fixing the chipped toilet with a blob of silicone lol. Great video Tom, really like this one 👏👏👏👏
Once I was called to a similar job were the plumber had stuck the whb on with mastic on the back and propped it up overnight. The next day day the costumer took the timber away and it fell straight on the floor 🙂. There seems to be too much frontage on those oval cloakroom basins, the old horizontal shape would hold. One of those WHB metal plates fitted behind the basin might be the answer?
I don't like the brackets on these basins much, the ones with bolts are better, this was nice and solid when I was done though. They used to do a kit that bolted though the waste to hold it at the bottom on some basins, they were good but they looked ugly, thanks for watching
@ great install tho been to a job today to sort the kitchen plumbing out The customer took me upstairs paid 5 grand for a bathroom and wow it’s disgusting will cost me around 200 in material and a days labour but I can’t charge them as they have been ripped once I no the plumber who did the install when she said his name I’m going to call him and tell him to watch your videos maybe he will learn
That bug on the wall scared the crap outta me @ 7:30 ish 😂 Top video as always Tom, gotta resolve those issues with no ply behind :) We've all thought yeah that'll be okay, look at it and go, nah I'll do it differently 🤣
Hi Tom, sorry for the late comment, been on a late call out job. Another great film thank you, I knew you would not be happy with the basin until you got some ply behind it for a secure fixing. Well done mate it looked a great job once you had finished. I know you always do a fantastic job, I do the same, it takes me longer especially because I’m getting old now, but I will not leave a job until I’m 100% happy with it. I’m sure you are just the same. Have a great week Tom and as always take care mate. 👍👍👍
Thanks for the support as always Chris, hope you wasn't too late and got everything sorted. One thing I've learnt the hard way is not leave a job until you are happy as it always come back to bite
Take it easy Pal Don't bust your boiler Its not worth it Take every day as it comes and pace yourself Accidents usually happen when under stress Your a good bloke
Great content Tom, I’ve said before, the transparency of your channel is what keeps me watching. Many would have left that basin, but right is right and call backs ruin reputations mate. Bathrooms are always trouble imo, haven’t done one yet that’s been straightforward! I’m doing a refurb this week, replacing the whole suite and blown shower wall in a Victorian house. Removed the first board and it took the tiles.plaster and lime mortar clean off the wall back to brick! Joy!
Great video, you need to get some Milliput to attach that broken piece back to cistern it sets like rock and can be filed shaped etc,I've filled a hole in a basin before now as a temporary repair, customer new got back to me to fit new basin😂
Great video as usual Tom. A a tradesman myself i admire your honesty in your videos, something lacking in most other trades channels on you tube. Keep up the good work.
Thanks for the support as always John, I always think part of the job is knowing what you can and can't get away with, it comes with experience, but ultimately if I'm not happy, it's not being left
Another good one Tom, I always like watching your video's. Just from watching your video's, I knew you were going to end up changing the basin fixings.
The shower area was all mermaid boarded out, and it was just down for a single tile splashback over the basin, which the builder was sorting. It looked really nice when It was all done, the budget didn't allow for every wall to be tiled, having a downstairs shower has made it so the customer can continue living in their home
Technically I guess the silicone shouldn't touch the pipe, but I would rather have it sealed than not, I've never been back to a job where the silicone has eroded a copper pipe, but I have been to jobs where water has got behind because it hasn't been sealed, thanks for watching mate
@@PlumbLikeTomthanks Tom, yes thought I was worrying over nothing. Just thought, oh if it releases acetic acid that can’t be good for copper, it’s probably insignificant so will stop worrying about it 😀👍
Tom your super clever quick question before I call Worcester tomorrow got a 2000 Combi flashing stop but hearings working fine and hot water and pressure all fine just never seen it before
That is strange, is isn't something I can recall seeing before either, I don't come across that many 2000 models, but I would imagine the fault codes are much the same across them all. Stop flashes up when you fill the system, It could be the fill loop passing, or an issue with the pressure switch. I would disconnect the external fill loop to make sure it's not passing. If that is Ok, and the boiler is under warranty, I would get Worcester out, hope that helps, thanks for watching Wayne
Hi Tom, what Laser level do you use/recommend? P.S. this is the opposite of messing up, you weren't happy with it and got better fixings. You were promised it would be ply boarded and it wasn't.
I use a bosche professional laser, it is good but it's expensive and it eats through batteries, when I bought it, there weren't many green laser levels about. If I was buying one now, I would just be looking for a green laser, and usb charging, hope that helps, thanks for watching
It was only down for a tile splashback behind the basin, the builder did that bit, I did get a picture somewhere of it all done and it looked rally nice, I can't find it though, thanks for watching as always
Plasterboard brolleys; take a load more weight than you’ll ever need. Used them to hang heavy rads without failure. The Rawlplug setting gun is ok and available at Screwfix with a selection of brolleys.
@@BrickTop900 True. Brolleys are still better than anything if there’s nothing solid to fix into. The only downside is the gash tiny washers they supply with them.

@@PlumbLikeTom It's really funny timing, as I'm building my own home right now and was deciding yesterday whether I needed to put in ply for the sink and toilet. I didn't, but did for the towel rail. I'm going to remove the plasterboard and put ply in tomorrow!
Is it just natural normal human nature to do a less good job/cut corners if there's something you just don't like about a customer? Is it wrong not to feel guilty?

trick i always got taught with toilet cysterns is use a rubber tap washer on the screw when fixing to wall
My old boss used to use them Pete, I don't keep many tap washers in the van anymore as most things are ceramic discs
How are they finishing that bathroom fixtures before tiles? I thought it was the other way round?
