As a random dude that just got into Space Marine 2, having never really dabbled with the franchise,..... this was great!
Welcome. Don't be a tourist.
Same here. Only tried Vermintide once, because people compared it to Left 4 Dead, and I just couldn't get into it. Now that I'm more familiar with the series, I might expand into other games.
I think the hooks are in.
Let me know what you think of the basic lore video! Also, if I ever get anything wrong in a video please let me know! Always willing to learn!
Holy shit, I'm in ! Ready for the next video!
Hi Josh, been a 40k fan off and on since 3rd edition. This is a great entry lore video! Really looking forward to watching more.
Brand new to WH. Where do i start? what should I read first?
Love ya Josh very good content here!! Me and my friends play alot of total war warhamer and would love to see some warhammer fantasy lore vids as well! 👍🏼 take care brother
They are called space marine legions. They are not chapters yet after guilliman created the codex.
This is amazing. Really great job. You're racing through but in a way we can keep up. This is really really great. Highly underrated. Thank you!
I painted for the first time in months after your first video Josh, this is honestly starting to get more interesting than Marvel stuff. Everything is more interesting than Star Wars now 😆
Lol SW was never interesting
Nice video, a couple of clarifications though: The warp is a fundamental aspect of the universe in 40k, like an infinite ocean that whirlpools around galaxies because life forms there. The different actions of life feeds the warp the energy it is made of, it itself isn't inherently evil just chaotic. It's only messed up because the galaxy in 40k is messed up and has been since the War in Heaven.
The other thing was the deal the Emperor made: He grew impatient with humanities evolutionary progress and wanted to speed things up. The other perpetuals at first followed him but realized he was going to be just another Tyrant, so they all turned their backs on him one by one over centuries. He ventured to Molech because there was a stable entrance to the warp there. Once in the warp he sought out the gods of chaos and promised to lead humanity to worship chaos if they would give him power and the secrets to creating life. The gods agreed, but the Emperor never intended to keep his promise, that's why he was constantly rushing; he put humanity on a ticking clock and forced a situation to where only he could 'save' everyone. This is also why it took a while before chaos caught on and began to push back, at first they thought everything was going according to plan. This is also why the Webway was so integral to his plan; he needed to move as much of our species in there, where chaos couldn't corrupt us as we evolved into a psychic race. Irony being that in the 'current' time, humanity feeds its psykers to the Emperor to keep him alive, literally sacrificing its future for the present
Is the emperor smart? Like hes decribed as someone really strong and all but from what im hearing, hes kind of lacking foresight for someone whos lived since forever. Thats of course assuming that hes really foghting for the greater good. Maybe hes really smart and the state of the world right now is what he really wanted all along.
@@tonyhotte2936he can literally see possible futures which explains a lot of his actions. He is ruthless but a tyrant is arguably necessary for where humanity is at in 40k. Democracy of untold trillions of humans is not feasible or desirable. If the webway was completed things would’ve been very different.
Listening while painting my Necrons. Super pumped for this channel and what’s to come. Keep kickin ass brotha! 🙌🏻
Alexander the Great just kept going and Cthulhu showed up at one point. Got it. 😮💨
As someone who's just getting started with 40k, this was just a perfect vid by all means! Enjoyed it, loved it, and it has definitely made me much more intrigued and excited to start my journey. Cheers!
Really never got into Warhammer until now. It’s fresh compared to the other major IPs out there, I pray we get a live action series/movies in the next few years that builds an expanded universe. This stuff could really play well on screen I think.
Henry cavil read this, now Jeff bazos is holding his beer.
You’re here because of space Marines 2.
I am, loving the game so much. Been stuck with cod and ufc 5 recently. Very nice change of pace
Yup, loving every minute of it
BROTHER!!!
I knew A.I would start to take over. Just wait ChatGPT will become the Men of Iron in the future. 🤣
You've done a pretty great job condensing the major parts of the lore into a short and easily-digestible video.
One small correction around 10:36, though: The Emperor created the space marine *legions.* Chapters only became a thing after the Heresy, when Robespierre Guillotine decided to split up the legions.
Bruhh, this was so easy to follow along! Got me hyped for more Warhammer vids 🙌🏻
Loved it. Can't wait till you hit my chapter. Blood Angels. I'm hoping Sanguinius comes back to life.... I need him on the tabletop.
in the books the is this mystic figure known as "the Sunginor" which can appear and aid blood angels, us nerds speculated that Sanguinius accepted his fate and "died" and cant return in a body, but parts of his soul is in this "warp ghost" thats been shaped into its current existence by the 10 thousands years of billions praying to sunguinius as an angelic saint
@@gawkthimm6030 oh no! I even have that model. That's crazy. Maybe they can pray harder :p
Thank you for getting the ball rolling on my warhammer lore snowball, boy am I in for a treat it seems.
Josh I love watching your videos ! I have seen channels with millions of subscribers but they can’t match your natural raw reviews and theories. I wish u all the best to succeed , I love the den of nerds and now I will fully support this channel . Also in the future it would be a dream to collab with you in a vid or a stream similar to nerd theory ❤
Something of note, the Chaos Gods manipulated The Emperors wife to help scatter the Primacrhs, they told her he was just trying to conquer the Galaxy for power and using her sons to do so and never cared for them. She helped create them and is functionally their mother, her name is Erda and she was also a Perpetual
Yeah, the perpetual Baby Momma that got mentioned.
Each video I’m learning more! Loving the style of it.
Love these videos! Totally new to 40k, are there any recommended books or games that we should read to start delving more into the lore?
ciaphas cain, DoW I and II (III isn't real), and the Astartes mini-series
check out arch warhammer he does the most in depth coverage of the lore, though his pompous voice may throw you off in the beggining he is truly a lore master. ive watched every video of his, and have been a fan of warhammer since 09, leutin is another loremaster that is worth listening too aswell
Loving the videos my good man. They're scratching that itch I needed. Keep them coming! ❤
Great video Josh! I’m so excited to buy and paint my first army next month.
great vid josh, loving the content so far, can't wait for the next one
Finally! I found a LV.1 explanation about the Warhammer Universe for the noob. I'm completely clueless about Warhammer & just bought the game yesterday. I just wanna have a little grip about the lore & not advanced complex Warhammer knowledge.
These are really well done, particularly the graphics
Best lore overview I've seen on UA-cam
Warhammer is Orcs vs Humans in the future.
There explained it in 8 words
Wait, Orca 🐬🦈 or Orcs?
@@RonnieMyers777 correct
This is a great video! I honestly feel like a got a decent grasp on what Warhammer is
Josh is really going to have me hooked on Warhammer soon. I just know it. I'm loving the vids and keep them coming!
Oh shit another banger!
Are there any plans for movies for war hammer?
I don't play War Hammer Josh, but I'm a huge sucker for great lore. I'll be watching all these videos! Well done! NV4LIFE!
Love your content
That's a good effort lol i thinknits something that really is learned over years! There is so much depth to the universe, and one if the reasons it's so popular, there really is something for everyone within it. Good job 👏
feed me more lore
Gimme da lore.
More!!!
I appreciate this. I'm a newcomer and shit is really confusing
#NV4L
You sound so much like den of nerds it’s crazy!
A couple of things. The warp went crazy with the birth of Slaanesh also the Thunder warriors were the first creation.
Getting this game now and reading the books
Loved ur explanation bro. Made it so easy to understand
Is the original Warhammer part of the same lore?
Supposedly not, but they do share the same chaos gods and there are a lot of similarities.
WOOOOOOOO
Great video, this Channel is gonna be Fuego🔥 love you dude!
The attempt failed at 1:45ish when Warp was explained with another W40k term Chaos Gods.
This is amazing Josh. I love this. Do more please
Awesome video man. We need a video on the entire Horus Hersey soon. NV4L!
40k views, nice
Just got into warhammer with the new game. So warhammer is how space nerds get into the roman empire
Ya boiiiii
The warp is a parrellel dimension that every sentient being has a ''shadow'' their soul in, their emotions flow into it giving it energy hence any sentient creature can access the warp in theory (there are a few sentient beings that have no soul or presence in the warp that is another story) some species have a greater or lesser effect on the warp and thus a greater or lesser ability to access and use it's energy , the chaos gods are the manifestation of emotion within the warp powered by the aformentioned emotions and thus try to maniplulate the real universe to increase their supply of the emotion that creates them , the warp went crazy 10K years ago as the hedonistic excess of the Alderi created enough emotion for a new entity to emerge in the warp as there was enough of that emotion now in it , the birth of Slaneesh who also devoured the souls of 99% of the Alderi at that point causing the massive surge in energy that created the galaxy wide warp storms
Epic
🤘🏿🤘🏿
The great Warp storms during the Age of Strife was mostly because of the emergence of Slaanesh due to the debauchery of the Eldar Empire.
the eldar did enough fucked up things to birth a chaos god !
This sounds very similar/Inspired by dune
❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥
Surely it would be better to let he Emporer doe so.he could then be born again anew like he has throughout human history?
Kathleen Kennedy is going to ruin Warham….. oh wait wrong show
Damn man... Matrix, Terminator, Warhammer depict AI as being awful....
Never gave a rats ass about this stuff....but you're getting me kinda hyped about it. I'm at about half staff
Great video, thanks!
Why'd he stop uploading? I remember he talked about getting into the 40k channel in SW Theory's stream hearing about it.
9:26 not all
Valiant effort brother. Still need to hone ur skills and research more but you are doing great.
Kingdom Hearts: 40k
Are humans grown , as I don't understand how humans can survive or reproduce when there is so much death eventually humans would become extinct surely?
This is absolutely perfect explained ! 👍🏼
1000 a day??😲
#N4L 🤘🎶🌴😎🌈+
New warhammer game for ps5 comes out soon
What if the Emperor of Mankind , and the last Highlander where one , and the same?
Last highlander? What's that?
First, the Imperium should not be considered the God Guys. You're assuming they are because they're the main human faction of the setting. Repeat after me: there are no good guys in 40k. A core truth of the 40k setting is that every faction except Orks and Tyranids is compromising morality for survival - and humanity is no exception. Have you considered, for example, that every one of those heroic Space Marines began his life as a child soldier, with their recruitment itself often involving trials that lead to death of many candidates (not all of whom are recruited willingly to begin with), only to be forced through years of surgical and genetic alterations interspersed with life-threatening "training" and brainwashing .
The Imperium can be viewed as "good guys" in that the faction is the best guarantee of mankind's survival, but at the cost of its humanity.
And the part about not worshipping the Emperor? Well, sir, if you're not worshipping the Emperor then chances are that what you're worshipping is either some flavour of Chaos or the patriarch of your local Genestealer Cult, which in both cases makes you part of a threat both to the planet and the Imperium as a whole.
The Age of Strife doesn't have to do with mankind's spread to the stars as much as with the fall of the Eldar, as their excesses more or less literally fucked Slaanesh into existence - and she was what caused the warp storms.
The Emperor did not create the Space Marine Chapters, but rather the Space Marine Legions. The separation of Legions into Chapters is a post-Heresy thing.
Imperial Webway was an attempt to connect to the pre-existing Eldar webway, not something genuinely new.
Den of nerds
So the emperor is a pos😂
I can't believe how many things were wrong/incomplete in this
Do tell! I'm fairly new to the lore and am trying to get things right.
@WarhammerExplained He realizes humanity must be guided when he was a child, before he knew he was a perpetual,
It's not a centralized empire, it literally can't be with the vastness of it all. It's also not fascist. While right mean nothing, everything would be in service of the state for that to be the case. Everything is dome to cling on to life in a hostile universe.
Almost none if the resources gathered are sent to Earth. They are sent where needed.
Chaos is the warp. The warp itself is not expanding, but those that serve it are making it more intertwined with reality.
The space marines may be on the poster, but they are a drop in the bucket of humanity's armies. They are negligible compared to the hordes of Baseline humans doing most of the work.
The dark age lasted ended by about M24, and then it was the age of strife for about 5000 years. The great Crusade was launched in late M29, so you bunched up two Eras in one.
The men of Iron did not gain sentience and rebel. They were sentient and later rebeled. It's not some awakening that led to genocide.
The MECHANICUM was a sect on Mars that arose to control technology but they were not totally in charge if technology until the crusade was launched
He built his super soldiers before the crusade. Not after launching it. Which you go on to clarify. But it's weird that you said he launched a crusade, then went back to unification
Urda scattered the primarchs, not the gods. They were just happy to help
The webway was to bypass the warp, not perfect it's travel.
I give you props. Ballsy to say that E doesn't want to kill horus. Especially since where we are in the books he's screaming out ways he will kill him. So there's a good chance a much more messed up fight will happen other that the ice cold bastard that E is starts to love his son who serves literally Hell
Not wrong from what I can tell, but Incomplete yes. But that would be like an hour long video lol.
You make a video, then jackass
Skibidi-Toilet lore is easier to understand than this shit.
The warp is also the afterlife. Do better.
Daddy?
