Hello Tobin, I am a new subscriber to your channel and I am impressed with the quality of your videos. I am also a new shaver, having purchased my first razor last summer. I find your tutorials to be both informative and entertaining, and I particularly enjoy your outdoor shaving. Thank you for sharing your expertise with us.
I've been looking forward to this 🐐! I consider myself a newbie ish, I started wetshaving fall 2023 and I too purchased a popular razor from Amazon. Thank you for explaining "chatter", I kind of knew what it and seen people talk about it but I've never fully known what it was until your explanation. Also I didn't know or really think about the blade "angle" because I also always wondered why razors with very similar blade gaps/exposure can feel completely different so that was good info. I do have a Rockwell 6C and I'm familiar with plate 3, so that's a good point of reference for me. Looking forward to this series! 💯
Thanks, Alex! Throw any questions or ideas at me that come along. I want to do one or two of these a week this summer. Then slow down to one or two a month by fall. Glad it's already been helpful! I put a lot of thought into this (overthought it) 🙏 so I'm glad to hear that it's already been beneficial to someone 👍👍
Oh, man! BBS gives me an idea for a whole other series! I already bought seven other razors from Amazon. If you don't mind I may actually use that in a short video series. Thanks, Sam, your comment was very useful!
Great! Yeah, I think you're right on track for what you want to accomplish. It's a different way than if seen, but it's right in line with how you do your soap scents and it gives you more time with the razor to really get a feel for it. I know for sure that it takes a little while to get a feel for a razor and sometimes you end up loving one that didn't start that way. I wish I had started with this one as it does look like a good one and you'd be hard pressed to find all the value with this set. I bet it's super hard juggling a bunch of new stuff and trying to talk about each thing. These should be great and I'm looking forward to more. Have a great weekend!
Thanks, Ian! I'm trying to come at these reviews from all angles and give the viewer as much info as possible in as little time as possible. I hope to hit the ground running with the Athena.
Nice review. The one thing I would say is to me blade chatter is a characteristic that is worth noting, but I do not think there is a universal opinion of whether it is desirable or not. Some people like it and some don’t. Some razors are great without it some with it. I like the audible feedback from a razor with chatter. Sometimes for me, razors with a really tightly clamped blade can be tough to read - both aggressive or mild. Chatter is a funny attribute. Keep up the great work bud.
Excellent razor review. I'd wish more people would do it like this because for a newbee ( and perhaps even the well experienced user ) it is so informative that even without the basics of shaving itself, it is helping you to choose wether you would buy it or not just based on the razor itself. It covers all the nescessay information people need to hear about a razor, without the need of knowing the 'differences' between razors themselves ( I hope it makes any sence ). So thank you Tobin, and I am waiting for the next one. And please remember people: "Life Moves Pretty Fast. If You Don’t Stop And Look Around Once In A While, You Could Miss It."
To Hyperinflation we her in Croatia also! Before Euro came for example the German Chocolate Milka 80g about 0.76€ now 1,75€. Because they say the fuel prices have gone up so much! I found a fuel bill from 2019. Diesel cost €1.41 per liter, but now it costs €1.38 when I filled it up yesterday! Inflation is being artificially created to bring us down! And my wages have fallen by at least 50% in the last few years, considering their purchasing power!
Thanks Carlitos! Such a great film! Emily loves all the 80s films. We've watched so many of them with her. We just watched Ferris (again) last week! Have a good one!
Thanks, Tim! It's one of our family's favorite movies we watched it again last week lol. My plan is to do one or two of these videos a week until the end of summer and then slow down to one or two a month. Have a good one!
Hey Dave! Thanks! Yes sir, I absolutely do! I want to do one or two of these a week for the remainder of the summer. Then come fall slow down to one or two a month. I want to eventually cover all my razors. Have a good one!
Thanks Mike! It really is, I was skeptical when I bought it. But for $9 I thought what the hell. I have actually bought seven more razors from Amazon that are different. So far I've only opened one, but I'm super impressed. I'll eventually start sharing those too. Have a great Saturday!
I agree that it’s best not to review too many products in the same video. It waters things down a bit. Good idea to keep the reviews quite short as attention spans seem to be getting shorter.
Great video, Tobin! I really liked that you compared against familiar razors in terms of blade gap, but also proved that gap isn't the only factor in efficiency. Looking forward to more razor reviews!
Very well review Tobin. I love your idea of not just shave videos, but a little of everything. Lots of gpod information on brush videos razor videos and soap videos. Can't wait till you do some aggressive razor reviews. My go to is the merkur progress. You get an aggressive shave at the right setting. Especially when you set it passed 5. I been looking for something aggressive besides the Muhle R41. What are your recommendations?
I love the Progress! I have it and a Mergress. I really love my Mühle Rocca, also the Rex Envoy. Both are efficient and are among my absolute favorites!
I have two razors that look exactly like this one. Just they were bought from temu for 4$, not amazon. The first one was just wow razor for beginner. Very mild, with negative exposure, efficiency feels like 6S on plate 2. Completely foolproof. No way to nick or get irritation regardless of shaving technique. No way to get blade aligned perfectly because of flat top cap pins, but I never felt any actual alignment issues. I still do not know if there is any DE razor in a market that is more beginner frendly. Another was purchased later, also on temu, at a similar price, looking the same. But key characteristics are completely different. Blade gap is clearly much bigger, exposure is positive, something similar to one that was reviewed in this video. I believe this review is 100% honest, but I am afraid it will not be useful for other buyers because another unit may have absolutely different specs. Note, there is no blade gap, exposure or any other important specs on amazon listing. Maybe thats because seller knows they are random 😂
Thanks man! Temu has some great deals. But to be fair with blade gaps and Amazon. In my experience, what I have noticed is that the gap is almost never mentioned on Amazon. If you can find a link to that $4 one that you bought will you put it in the comments or DM it to me I'd love to check it out
@Tobins_throwbacks The listing of my first purchase that I liked so much is already discontinued. Second, with a bigger blade gap - enter id 601099527725972 in search field (link posting failed) Prices on temu have property to chatter, so it may be more than $4, but if search for 'safety razor', filter visually, you should always find some that looks same under $8

Would love you to do this type of review on a Razor Emporium revamped 1960’s Gillette Slim. I like your approach to this, don’t need to watch someone shaving all the time. Thanks buddy
Thanks Al, I don't have a revamped slim but I do have a handful of revamped razors from Razor Emporium. I plan to work my way through all the razors in My Den overtime and of course doing the new ones that come in. Hope you guys are having a good weekend
Great idea for a series, man. I should do something similar with razors off Amazon Japan. Do you mind if I borrow your idea? It wouldn’t be anytime soon though. I’m still in the beginning stages of about 50 sample soap reviews. Haha!!
Thanks Mully! Absolutely! Go for it! I was actually thinking a couple of months back it would be cool to see this series inspire other guys to create similar content. Please do! And let me know when you do! I'd love to check out how you do it. I've been wanting to do this for months, I've put it off too long. Have a good one!
They claim to be a small family business I know the razors are made in China it makes me wonder where the business is out of like what country the owners are in and what language they speak
Nice review Tobin! Thanks for sharing your experience. Reviews like these could really help folks on the fence about starting wetshaving.
Thanks, Patrick! I have a handful more of cheap razors from Amazon to share in the future too.
Have a good one!
Tobin, you are on to something very good with these Brush and Razor reviews. Informative and very helpful. Well done.
Agreed!
Thanks, Wally!! Athena is On Deck! Recording it tomorrow.

Hope so! Thank you!
Tobin, Thanks for the shout out😊👊 I am honored. Great review. The price is great for that razor. It would be a BBB...Best Budget Buy😂

Holy crap! We've seen similar things. And I agree with you Robert. Something is going on, and I am afraid "Something big" is coming.

One of the best movies! Great shirt!
Agreed! Thanks!
I recommend doing blade gap and exposure in mm not inches. It’s a more universal measurement. Just saying.
I thought about that, but as a stubborn American, I refuse to use the Metric system 😅
Excellent! Well done Tobin!!
I like the new logo and love the shirt!
Thanks SB!
Finally, no more excuses!😊

Great review. My brother has this razor. He said it is a great razor for the price and it gets the job done.
Thanks Manny! It definitely does!

Great video! Only one question. Inches vs mm? I’ve mostly seen razors blade gaps listed in mm.
Depends you can find both, inches are easier for me to measure with my OEM
But you are right, mm is used more often
And, I'm an American. I don't use the Metric system 😉😘
