Great shave Kensurfs. That is a nice looking razor. I am 41, and have had high blood pressure since I was in my mid-teens. I see my doctor every 6 week for meds and checks, but I regularly have to ask for an older or a male nurse to take my BP, so that it will not shoot up. Pretty nurses get me every time!
My favorite razor is a 1965 Slim with a Feather blade. First use on the blade, set it at 7 for three passes. After the first use, set it on 9, 7 then 3. If I'm in a hurry, I use a Voskhod on 9 start to finish. Stirling soap of any kind is my go to soap. I've used the pre-shave soap to shave with and it worked out good as well. Rod and Mandy have an amazing company and possibly the best customer service, well, ever. I really like the looks of that razor.
I received a Rex Ambassador from my Son for Father’s Day and I love it. It’s the best razor I’ll ever own. I’m a two pass WTG shaver. I start on setting 5 for first pass and dial down to 3.5 for second pass. 3.5 works well on a single WTG pass on my dome. The Rex Ambassador is a very efficient razor and I’m enjoying pairing it with different blades. I use alum after every shave. I splash my face with cold water and hit it with the alum, wait 30 seconds and then rinse with cold water. I then follow with Stirling unscented splash. Love me some Stirling splash. Take care Ken! Love ❤️ the channel.
@@kensurfs I was thinking of getting a custom Fatboy like PaulH… do you think the shave is worth it or would this suffice? I don’t own an adjustable razor and have never shaved with a vintage Gillette. I only have about 6 razors currently so I’m thinking this will be my last. 👀
To watch your shaving videos Ken, is such an emotionally nice experience, that I imagine that many of your viewers find them to have a more or less therapeutic value. By the way, your videos are also really good from shaving point of view. God bless you, sir!
Me too Ken... dust and rust. Man it feels that way for sure. Only 53 and headed for Darth Vader - total hip replacement already. Great video! My '59 E3 Fatboy is my favorite. Thanks so much for the videos.
"There's a lot of modern adjustables out there..." *Whips up a type of razor which was introduced in 1955: the Merkur Progress. So this design beats the famous Gillette Fatboy by three years. Which makes perfect sense, given the fact the mechanics are way simpler. In a sense, if you're using a Progress, you're shaving with a vintage type razor.
Sure does, I thought it was 1953, but I may be wrong. But the Progress as sure stood the test of time and though the Indians have copied it, I know which one I prefer, the Merkur is neo-classical in design and a thing of unparalleled proficiency.
only 1min in but i wanted to write this before i heard Kens opinions. I have the Viking Augustus adjustable very similar to the Meiji. I love that i can fine tune ANY blade to work for me. super sharp feather turn it down to a 4/10 works fine, Lord Platinum turn it up to 6/10, Gillette Platinum 7.5/10... once i get that dialed in i then know which of my 3 other razors it will pair well with. hated getting sample razor blade kits and hating half of them. i can make any blade work for me with an adjustable razor
Hi Ken. Great instructive shave! You and other UA-camrs have really helped me dial my DE shave in as I learn. Thank you. I have been shaving with a straight razor for 5 years or so but I wanted the variety of using a DE also. I can get a really smooth shave without nicks or irritation with a straight razor but I have to be really careful with a DE razor. I’m still improving my technique. Anyway, my neck is sensitive and I have finally got an adjustable in the right range to shave my face and my neck comfortably. The Rockwell 6S was a great step forward in my process. I learned that plates 1 & 2 were a good range for my neck and my face could benefit from a more aggressive shave. Now I have been using the full range of the Muramasa to get a perfect smooth comfortable shave. Watching you and Kevy and Friendship and a few others really helped me get to this point. Thank you again. Finally, my advice to others learning is get a Rockwell 6C for half the price and find out which plates are perfect for you. You may never need another razor but if you do you’ll have a good idea whether you need it to be mild, medium or aggressive.
Funny you mention white coat syndrome, I spent the last week in the hospital and blood pressure was up and down like crazy. I wasn't in for covid thank goodness! Crohns related issues, Always a pleasure to watch your videos. Thank you Ken
I would suspect that this type of response to the dog barking is, in essence... *Please stop barking! You'll alert the wife that I've spent more money on soap, a razor, bullets, movie poster, pinball machine parts, a watch, or watch parts...etc...*
Because of your videos I started shaving with a Safety Razor instead of the Multi Blade Stuff. today. not kidding. i bought a Mühle Razor and Astra Superior Platium blades and I was a little exited and afraid I am too clumsy, but man. No compare to anything I did before. Shaving is a happening now. Looks much cooler. And the skin is sooooooooo much better after a safety razor than after a multi blade. i found your channel because of your kin c. gillette video and stuck to it. I just like to hear you talking. greets from Potsdam, Germany!
Another great shave. I've been looking for an adjustable razor. Didn't know about the Viking line. I will be definitely checking that one out. Stay safe
Me too! I’m was thinking of finally getting a vintage Gillette adjustable. I should have one in my 7yr wet shaving career but never pulled the trigger. Are the shaves that unique or is it comparable with something modern?
Nice shave Ken I have been on the hunt for vikings blade razors but hear in the UK the import charges just kill them will keep looking thought keep up the good work ken
The Merkur Progress razor came out in 1955, pre-dating the Gillette Fatboy by a few years. I've used many razors since I got into this insane hobby, but the only one I have now is the Progress.
Only days away to committing to the Merkur Progress, then you throw in this beauty of an adjustable razor. Decisions, decisions. Definitely getting that alum block btw. Thanks for the video Ken.
Good shave Ken. Wet shaving is the biggest rabbit hole I've ever experienced in my lifetime. There's so many different razors and blades that you can try that selecting one often becomes torture. It gets worse with straight razors. Right now I use a Gillette Fusion Proshield (regular instead of the chill version) because my neck breaks out if I use anything else along with my PAA Roswell 24 mm synthetic brush and my artisan made soaps. I won't be running out anytime soon but when I do, I more than likely will stick with Proraso green from here on out.
Been shaving with a Vikings Blade Emperor (chrome model) for 9 months now. Nicks have become a rarity. You should try their blades while you're at it. Their mild blades in the green box are made in America and give a very smooth shave.
I'd like to see a video that highlights American made products. I didn't know that about Vikings blades. I only knew about Personna blues and Med Preps.
I have various adjustable's and I love them, especially to test blades. The Viking crusader is a bit different as it has no numbers it flows i.e one can stop anywhere. I would love to get that one you are using as well, but it was a really awkward to get it shipped to the UK he didn't do direct shipping then. I had to get a separate company in the USA to do so. I like all brushes! Badger just does give a different lather, especially when using warm water.
I was watching this video and my dog was next to me and perked up when he heard your dog bark....LOL. The alum block is a God-send for me. Mark Szorady uses the Vikings Blade adjustable almost exclusively in his videos. I love the look of it but I’m good with my collection for now. I got a Razorine for my birthday which I have yet to try.
Hi Ken- Great shave and razor/soap reviews; thank you! Nice-looking shave gear all-around! I hope you have a great weekend ahead. Take good care and be safe and be well. Best regards, as always, Ken!
Ohh, Tuscany from Stirling. That's a good one, even better with Frost drops!!!!. I have that gold Gillette Sensor, got it as a gift for Xmas from my brother a few years ago. There's a Silver one and a Platinum one too. Have a great day!!!!!
Speaking of calligraphy, I noticed ever since I got into traditional wet shaving that it is a Gentlemans hobby and recently got interested in Fountain Pens. I just might get one soon!
@@kensurfs mont blanc are great but aim a bit higher check out yard o lead pens ua-cam.com/video/IOeDaBq6IMw/v-deo.html or abit cheaper mr pens give a great choice of nibs www.mrpen.co.uk/contents/en-uk/d63.html
To start out get a cheap fountain pen/calligraphy set from an art store, to get a feel for it - don't get in head over heels with expensive stuff right off.
Great video Ken. Cannot beat that 6S for its versatility, I'd recommend it to everyone even new to shaving. Just treated myself to a Rex Ambassador and boy is it aggressive. Even on one. Taken several shaves to get used to it. You have to ride the cap I find. Still totally unforgiving and just waiting to bite you, especially harsh on the neck if your not super careful. Hope you're well and stay well and safe all.
That alum block i just received with my big order from Phoenix shaving, I'm excited to shave in the morning. I'll shower tonight and enjoy the shampoo bar from them as well looks like a great shave.
Great shave again. I'm really enjoying adjustable razors lately and starting to get a small collection of not too expensive razors, including the standout Rockwell 6C. For me I found that selecting the right aggression for razor/blade helps me a lot with irritation issues with my sensitive skin. Like other DE razors not all adjustable work out well, for example I have a VB Emperor but so far I'm finding the weight (134gm) a bit hard to manage, all of my other razors are less than 100gm, so something to avoid on new razor purchases.
Love an adjustable razor. I head and face shave. I mostly use the Leaf on the dome but not the face. Going on vacation for 10 days and will shave when I feel like it so the Rex Ambassador is going with me. Adjustability rocks!
I haven’t seen this razor before and it’s nice that I saw it in your review. A very beautiful thing. I had few adjustable DE razors. But only a clone of Merkur Futur stay in use. Very cool packaging alum block. Bright and original. Thank you very much, Ken!
Great video! Two things: I almost fell out of my chair....”I fart dust and piss rust”.... 🤣 Also, that Meiji razor has always had a real “Soviet” look to it, like anything metal they would have had, guns, trucks, tanks, etc. one of these days you should do a Soviet tribute shave. I think you May have already done this but if not, you can call it “From Russia With Love” ! 😁
Great Video as always Ken!!! First off it’s been a hell of a last week: house fire (shave den is ok) brother tried to take his life and had an uncle pass away so I hope that’s my three and as always your videos are a great way to unwind and decompress... Personally I like the adjustable... I have a 1960 fat boy, 1979 Russian copy of the aristocrat and a Rockwell 6s arriving Monday, I have a coarse beard and being able to start aggressive and finish light on pass three is a great option..But like most it really comes down to personal preference....In an unrelated topic I have just started to receive my vintage aftershaves just got a shulton old spice and a Speidel British Stirling. I totally understand why you, Paul H and Kevy get exited about them...Next arriving is a Fabrege Brut and Hero can’t wait for that!!!!
Of all the razors in my collection, the adjustables provide me the most versatility. Really like my Merkur Progress and Parker Variant, however, my Gillette Slim adjustables are still my favorites. Regardless the brand of blade, it's always a one inch putt for birdie with a Slim. And they remain the best looking razors in my collection imo.
Adjustable razors in my collection: Gillette Fatboy, Wizamet W-11, Vikings Blade Emperor Augustus, and Merkur Progress (long handle). I plan to add the Parker Variant to my collection next.
Nice, I have the Vikings blade Emperor Augustus its the exact same as that but longer handle if I understand correctly it's also 1-9 aggressive. Really like mine.
I spotted the 89 missing from the shelf straight away. Cheers Ken. "Fart dust and pee rust"... New one on me, and certainly got my wife's attention when you came away with it🤣👍
Yet another fine video, Mr. KenSurfs. I have been intrigued by adjustable razors for some time. Quite frankly, I am debating as to which sort of adjustable razor to purchase; one with interchangleable base plates, or one with an adjustment dial. As an experiment, I got the Lithe razor head system from West Coast Shaving. It has 3 interchangeable base plates; 1) a mild yet efficient base plate, 2) a medium aggressive, open combed base plate, 3) an aggressive base plate. The Lithe razor head system only costs about $20! An excellent value, and intro into razors with interchangeable plates.
That's a beautiful razor,Ken! Not a bad price for it too. I used my 68' Slim tonight with a GWS blade. I may have to ad that Viking razor one day to my collection. Haha. Hello Monty!
I really enjoy putting a fresh Feather blade in my D1 toggle on 9 and mow down 4 days of growth, then dial it down to five and three for the next two passes.
Love your channel! In my early days of using the Gillette Slim my father used to use, I thought those numbers were to remind you how many times you had used the blade. So I would start at 1, shave, next day move it to 2, shave, etc. All the way up to 9! So I was shaving at 9 using a nine-times blade! And I had never heard of alum blocks or styptic pencils.
I love that Ken Quotable, “ I got my Alum Block ready to rock”. BTW, I just got that Viking razor and love it. It has the comb on one side and smooth on the other side. The adjustable setting mechanism gets loose easily though. Overall it’s a keeper and looks so darn cool 👍
Ken, nice shave💈💈 I like adjustable razors and that one reminds me of the Delta Echos from a few years ago👌 Can't go wrong with Stirling, great stuff. Dust and Rust😁 K-9 early warning system😉 Nice. I use alum every shave, part of my routine. Great video and chat. Enjoy!
Hi Ken. I recently purchased the Vikings Blade Meiji after watching your review. One thing I didn’t hear you mention was that it has two different combs. Flipping it from the smooth comb will give a more aggressive shave. Unfortunately my razor had a defect that has been seen on a few other examples. The open comb side was bent/crooked. It really irritated my face before I noticed it. They are sending a replacement through Amazon. Hopefully it doesn’t have the same QC issue. I had to destroy the original and send them photos of it. Never had to do that before.
I bought the Meiji after watching this. Ive had 2 really great shaves with it, and ive been going from 7 to 4 to 2 over 3 passes. Working great. I feel they have some quality control issues though. I bought one with a finish flaw, and the one i got to replace it had a crooked baseplate that would not align on tge lower settings. Id hope not to have either issue in the $50 range. We’ll see how it holds up over time. It is likely to see more use than my beloved 34G.
Go the Vikings blade website you can rest the baseplate if it becomes slanted. Also you have to set the razor to Max every time you open the door, otherwise the adjustment will become loose. To fix both issues, set it to Max open the doors and remove the blade, close the doors and place you thumb above the top cap and two fingers under the baseplate and squeeze them together repeatedly then open the doors place the blade and adjust, no need to open the doors to adjust unless you need to open the doors for blade removal. VB has a video on their website showing how to rest it, it’s under the instructions tab.
I have the special edition of that razor, the Augustus. It's a great razor. Nobody that reviews it ever notices that it's a dual head razor. One side is a smooth bar and the other is scalloped. On my skin I can feel the difference even on the same settings.
I read a lot of web sites, watched a lot of UA-cam videos, and after watching your video on the Viking TWICE, I decided to get the Viking. While there are a couple of other adjustables that got high reviews they were also a lot more expensive than the Viking, and since no one had any complaints about the Viking, so that was another reason I chose the Viking. I ordered mine directly from Viking since I wasn't sure if the Amazon one was a fake one or not. I then went to Amazon and ordered GPS 120 assorted blades that came with an Alum Block.
@@bogunnarsson6661 I'm assuming you mean the Viking adjustable razor, I LOVE IT! It works great. These things do not shave quite as close as a 5 blade razor will, but they shave close enough, so close that no one will notice anything, but I made the switch because I got sick and tired of paying $24 for 4 blades. It's well made for the price, are there better ones? sure, but I don't think paying another $100 or more would get me much of a better shave than this Viking, maybe the materials used might be 10% better? I don't know, but I don't think they're worth another $100 or more. Also since I was buying an adjustable type of razor as an experiment to see if I would like it I wasn't going to spend a lot of money only to find out I didn't like it, but it worked out far better than I thought it would, I will never go back to those multi-bladed razors ever again, nor will I go back to a non-adjustable razor. Each blade has a different cut to it, and the adjustableness of the Viking allows you to dial in the pitch of the blade for a better shave, some blades need a mild curve and some need the max curve. Some people will say the max curve shaves closer...ehh, I really haven't found that to be the case, it seems to optimize the individual brand of the blade and the way it cuts better, anyway, that's my unprofessional thought. If you are talking about the 120-blade thing I ordered, some of those blades were not that good, and got dull after a couple of uses, others lasted a couple of weeks, some shaved smoother than others, and some nicked more than others, so it's a trial and error thing, you have to find a blade you like, and buying a 120 blade thing as I did is helping me to sort through the bad ones, I still have a lot the blades left, they'll probably last at least another year. At some point I want to try the Wilkerson's Sword blades, I heard those are very good blades, some say they're the best ones.
I wish you would have addressed a few features on this Viking shaver. One of them as described on Amazon is that it is designed to slightly bow the blade. The other one is the safety bars. One is smooth which one reviewer said was for close sensitive areas and the other one is like a comb. I have a 60 year old Gillette Fatboy adjustable but am considering getting this one.
I have the emperor in frosted chrome, the handle is a bit longer on that one and I LOVE it! It's a good thing I work out cuz it's a workout holding it up to my face! All kidding aside, great product and I'm glad to see you like it too. I want to get my hands on the meiji edition, it looks amazing.
Another great shave. I checked out Viking razors….very nice and reasonably priced. You should check out the Shave Nation alum block... it’s like a roll on deodorant. Stay safe. 💈🪒
High-camp there's three kinds of emperor razors from Viking s blades that was called the Augustus emperor. I have the same one. I personally love that razor with Astra blades
Great video on adjustables! I'm new to them and still finding the right setting on my FUTUR for me with my feathers and astras. I finally got all of my soaps and razors in that I ordered for my birthday gift (still waiting on the fatboy hopefully soon on that one), and I'm very excited to try out my slim for my next shave. I've had my FUTUR for a month or so now, and I like it okay. I think I'll hang on to it for the collection and I'll keep using it until I find something else as my go-to. My 34c is great, but it's a bit too mild when I go for a few days without shaving and I really need to get in there and mow that growth down.
I've had a Muhle R41 Twist on order for 26 days from English Shaving. The international shipping has been slowed to a snail's pace due to the Covid 19. Looking forward to the open comb.
Hi Ken I think the ajustable is a great idea particually if you are new to wet shaving as it allows you to find the aggression that is right for you without having to buy lots of different single setting razors till you find one that you like. On this note I would suggest a Rockwell 6c an inexpensive razor that is both comfortable and smooth. I use míne on setting 4 and I love it. Keep up the good work and keep safe.
I saw this razor on Amazon, my first impression was that it was a cheap razer with a great design. But then a came across your other videos regarding this razor. And I was shocked because this razor in particular has all the feature I am looking for. 1) Love that it's a butterfly opener 2) it's a bit longer then the one I have 3) it's adjustable 4) love the design and color 5) two sides for mild and aggressive 6) the price! I am new to DE shaving, practically a noob but I've done lots a research and so here I am. My first razor I bought was the Merker (Mk34c) DE heavy duty razor short handle and well I haven't tried anything else yet so I can't say it's a good razor its top quality for sure. I've just recently ordered this viking one largely in part because of the videos you've presented, so thanks men in advance. BTW new sub. 😀
Paul Schneider I have used many modern and vintage razors - fixed and adjustable. New adjustables were the parker variant and the Rockwell S. Unquestionably, the best is the vintage slim adjustable - slightly slimmer than the Fatboy - appears to be the same head, but a little smaller that makes it easier under the nose. I pretty usually uise your Gillette wilkinson sword blade- setting 8 for first pass - setting 4 for pass 2 and 3. If I do not shave for several days - I use the feather blade - setting 7 and then setting 3 for the second 2 passes. Sometimes I will just use 9 - and that will be a single pass shave. This vintage razor hich you can get on ebay - in very good shape - for about $30+ is a very good deal - and much cheaper than a fatboy. I thought the parker variant was terrible and sold it on ebay; but I like th Rockwell 6S and have it used it on setting4 and 5 with many different blades andhave never got a bad shave. Re Gillette - razor collectors always say Gillette got it right th first time with the evolution of the fatboy - startd with the tech - tech ranger - siuperspeed - 3 models o superspeed Flare - togle adjustabel and then the fatboy - incorporating the range of settings from the 3 fixed flare tips - and they are right. But they improved th engineering with the slim -which is why I think it is the best razor Gillette ever made. Buy it on ebay - if you do not like it - sell it back on ebay - and you will probably not lose any money. That is why I have many of these as well fatboys. Every shaving enthusiaste should have this relatively inexpensive and great razor
Vikings Blade Emperor Meiji was my first adjustable and 4th DE razor in my collection. Still looks awesome and is, at least for me, an almost guaranteed great shave. The neck is wide, but I solved this by getting one of the Vikings Blade stands, which takes wide brushes too (30mm opening). I also got their other adjustable, which is closer to the Gillette Slim in design, the Vikings Blade Crusador Ragnarr edition. The only problem I face with Vikings Blade is that no one stocks them in the UK, everything has to be an import - but I seem to have encouraged a few other UK shavers in the UKWSS Facebook Group to give them a try. I guess I like adjustable as so far I have the Meiji, Ragnaar, 1960 Fatboy, 1970 Black Beauty and a Weishi 2.0. I am however tempted by a Rex Ambassador to add to the collection.
@@kyuubibarbellclub4979 - both are great razors. The Fatboy is lighter but has a defined number of settings whereas the Meiji is continuously adjustable. The Meiji can also be a little temperamental with regards to the doors closing of the blade isn’t in perfectly. Both shave really well and you are likely to spend far more on a Fatboy. Pros and cons to both.
I like the Osma blocks. I kind of feel the same as you daughter about badgers. No hate to anyone who uses them. Boars I don't mind so much (I live in the south. They are a real bother). Been considering a viking razor. I may have to get the emperor.
Hi Ken, I tried the GWS blades from India as you seemed to feel they worked well. Have just ordered 200 as they have been a really excellent blade for me in all my razors. Thank you Ken
adjustable razors are great , since I can take the level I need depending of the day, the blade and the soap. also razors without adjustment are ok, merkur 34 c, edwin jagger de 89 , rockwell 6 etc , since all of them are normally on level 3
Great shave. My blade sampler pack arrived today. It contains an assortment of Gillettes, Astras, Bics, Permasharps and Voskhods for me to try out. Among them are the Gillette Wilkinson Swords that you recommended me and everyone else to try out. But the Gillette Wilkinson Swords I received are the ones from China, not the Indian saloon pack version you typically use. Regardless, I’ll see if they work for me
Awesome video! As a new shaver (due to covid and I have to wear N95 in my hospital job), you've been a great source to watch and I've learned a ton. Thank you!
If you are 100% sure you want to shave with a DE razor get an adjustable, it will be worth it and it will be the ONLY razor you will ever have to buy. Adjustable razors are the way to go, modern or vintage. I started DE shaving 5 years ago with a vintage Gillette Black Beauty and now have at least one of almost every Gillette adjustable razor. Also have the Parker and three Merkur Progress, long, short and vintage short. My go to razor is the Fat Boy set on 5 or 6 and set on 1 or 2 for around the mouth. It's the only razor I can shave ATG around my mouth, that's why adjustable razors are the best, you can set them to the different areas of your beard. My second go to adjustable is a vintage Berkeley Custom Shaver. If you love adjustables it is a "Must Try/Have" razor. And now I have to go put a rubber band around my Alum Block. Thanks, Ken!
Hi Ken. Great vid as usual. I really like to the look of this razor, so I've looked on Amazon. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear to be on Amazon UK but I will keep my eye out in case it comes on there one day. I guess I will have to 'make do' with my Fatboy, Slim and Super 109 , though that isn't exactly a hardship. Please keep producing all your fantastic vids to entertain and inform us.

Whenever your dog barks Ken, I love hearing your comments. “That darn dog! Must be the mail man again.” 😄
Lol 🐕🐕
I just like to hear you talking. greets from Potsdam, Germany!
oh and by the way, i am still waiting for an adjustable razor that not only goes from one to nine but all the way to eleven ...
Awesome👍👍👍
Still waiting on my slim adjustable restored and plated in Rhodium, can’t wait! Thanks for the video Ken!

Another great shave. I've been looking for an adjustable razor. Didn't know about the Viking line. I will be definitely checking that one out. Stay safe
👍💈💈
👍💈💈
I have the Vikings Blade Emperor, though in a different color. It is a wonderful razor. Shaves marvelously. Super smooth. Recommend it any time.
👍👍💈💈
I love my adjustable razor on my 1959 Gillette Fatboy,3 setting on shave and touch up on 1
👍👍
The Merkur Progress razor came out in 1955, pre-dating the Gillette Fatboy by a few years. I've used many razors since I got into this insane hobby, but the only one I have now is the Progress.
👍👍
Only days away to committing to the Merkur Progress, then you throw in this beauty of an adjustable razor. Decisions, decisions. Definitely getting that alum block btw. Thanks for the video Ken.
👍💈💈
Get the Progress, it’s a better shaver.
👍👍💈💈💈
Want another rabbit hole, fountain pens. Have fun
Your dog barks and mine jumps up and runs to the door! Nice looking razor, Ken, good shave...

I enjoy the Stirling Soap. I have the Duke and Barbershop scents and they smell awesome. Sterling's bath soap is very good as well.
👍💈💈
👍💈💈

I had never seen one before, they are really cool👍👍
Speaking of calligraphy, I noticed ever since I got into traditional wet shaving that it is a Gentlemans hobby and recently got interested in Fountain Pens. I just might get one soon!
Mike Rose that is cool. I saw some cool Mont Blanc fountain pens a few years ago, I almost scored one.
for calligraphy make sure you get an italic nib (aka stub nib) looks like the the writer of kens letter used 1.1mm or 1,5
@@kensurfs mont blanc are great but aim a bit higher check out yard o lead pens ua-cam.com/video/IOeDaBq6IMw/v-deo.html or abit cheaper mr pens give a great choice of nibs www.mrpen.co.uk/contents/en-uk/d63.html
To start out get a cheap fountain pen/calligraphy set from an art store, to get a feel for it - don't get in head over heels with expensive stuff right off.
I have used a fountain pen for decades but I am left handed so use an oblique nib.
Agree on Future too, should of been called the "Mekon"

Nice words about Adjustable razor
Thanks for video

That alum block i just received with my big order from Phoenix shaving, I'm excited to shave in the morning. I'll shower tonight and enjoy the shampoo bar from them as well looks like a great shave.
👍💈💈
Great shave again. I'm really enjoying adjustable razors lately and starting to get a small collection of not too expensive razors, including the standout Rockwell 6C. For me I found that selecting the right aggression for razor/blade helps me a lot with irritation issues with my sensitive skin. Like other DE razors not all adjustable work out well, for example I have a VB Emperor but so far I'm finding the weight (134gm) a bit hard to manage, all of my other razors are less than 100gm, so something to avoid on new razor purchases.
👍💈💈
That is a cool looking razor. Thanks for demonstrating it for us.
Thanks David👍👍
Love an adjustable razor. I head and face shave. I mostly use the Leaf on the dome but not the face. Going on vacation for 10 days and will shave when I feel like it so the Rex Ambassador is going with me. Adjustability rocks!

I haven’t seen this razor before and it’s nice that I saw it in your review. A very beautiful thing. I had few adjustable DE razors. But only a clone of Merkur Futur stay in use. Very cool packaging alum block. Bright and original. Thank you very much, Ken!

Great video!
Two things:
I almost fell out of my chair....”I fart dust and piss rust”.... 🤣
Also, that Meiji razor has always had a real “Soviet” look to it, like anything metal they would have had, guns, trucks, tanks, etc. one of these days you should do a Soviet tribute shave.

Oh man, Stay Safe Mike🙏🙏
Hope all is well, sorry about your uncle
Sorry for your loss and the tough times. Hang in there.
Don't forget English Leather, Hai Karate and William's Aqua Velva. My Condolences on your Uncle. Stay safe.
👍💈💈

Love adjustable razors! My main driver is a Vikings Blade Crusader and I pretty much leave it on setting 1.
Conrad Know-How 👍👍💈💈💈
I’m learning the Crusader is pretty aggressive, I might have to go to a 1 setting as well.
Adjustable razors in my collection: Gillette Fatboy, Wizamet W-11, Vikings Blade Emperor Augustus, and Merkur Progress (long handle). I plan to add the Parker Variant to my collection next.

I'm a Gilette sensor excel fan too, great design, my first shaver I ever bought, 25 years ago, still use it :D

Nice, I have the Vikings blade Emperor Augustus its the exact same as that but longer handle if I understand correctly it's also 1-9 aggressive. Really like mine.

👍👍👍
That's a beautiful razor,Ken! Not a bad price for it too. I used my 68' Slim tonight with a GWS blade. I may have to ad that Viking razor one day to my collection. Haha. Hello Monty!
👍💈💈
I really enjoy putting a fresh Feather blade in my D1 toggle on 9 and mow down 4 days of growth, then dial it down to five and three for the next two passes.
👍💈💈
Love your channel! In my early days of using the Gillette Slim my father used to use, I thought those numbers were to remind you how many times you had used the blade. So I would start at 1, shave, next day move it to 2, shave, etc. All the way up to 9! So I was shaving at 9 using a nine-times blade! And I had never heard of alum blocks or styptic pencils.
👍👍💈💈
I love that Ken Quotable, “ I got my Alum Block ready to rock”. BTW, I just got that Viking razor and love it. It has the comb on one side and smooth on the other side. The adjustable setting mechanism gets loose easily though. Overall it’s a keeper and looks so darn cool 👍
👍👍💈💈
Ken, nice shave💈💈 I like adjustable razors and that one reminds me of the Delta Echos from a few years ago👌 Can't go wrong with Stirling, great stuff. Dust and Rust😁 K-9 early warning system😉 Nice. I use alum every shave, part of my routine. Great video and chat. Enjoy!
Lol
👍👍💈
Go the Vikings blade website you can rest the baseplate if it becomes slanted. Also you have to set the razor to Max every time you open the door, otherwise the adjustment will become loose. To fix both issues, set it to Max open the doors and remove the blade, close the doors and place you thumb above the top cap and two fingers under the baseplate and squeeze them together repeatedly then open the doors place the blade and adjust, no need to open the doors to adjust unless you need to open the doors for blade removal. VB has a video on their website showing how to rest it, it’s under the instructions tab.
Nice razor design. I liked the red and brass accents.
👍👍💈💈
I have the special edition of that razor, the Augustus. It's a great razor. Nobody that reviews it ever notices that it's a dual head razor. One side is a smooth bar and the other is scalloped. On my skin I can feel the difference even on the same settings.
👍👍👍
Great shave Ken, I've been using a Gillette adjustable razor since the early 80's and just love how you can dial it to your face and blade.
👍💈💈
I read a lot of web sites, watched a lot of UA-cam videos, and after watching your video on the Viking TWICE, I decided to get the Viking. While there are a couple of other adjustables that got high reviews they were also a lot more expensive than the Viking, and since no one had any complaints about the Viking, so that was another reason I chose the Viking. I ordered mine directly from Viking since I wasn't sure if the Amazon one was a fake one or not. I then went to Amazon and ordered GPS 120 assorted blades that came with an Alum Block.
Hi I also just ordered this blade, how are you doing with it?
The Fatboy is an awesome razor. After all these years I bet it still works great👍👍
Vikings razors are fun to use but honestly love their brushes
👍👍👍
I have only 1 adjustable razor and its the Parker Variant, it is also one of my top go to razors.
No straight razor shave for me either.

Thank you
I've had a Muhle R41 Twist on order for 26 days from English Shaving.

Good shave. Looking forward to adding an adjustable to my lineup. Have a great weekend.

I saw this razor on Amazon, my first impression was that it was a cheap razer with a great design. But then a came across your other videos regarding this razor. And I was shocked because this razor in particular has all the feature I am looking for.
1) Love that it's a butterfly opener
2) it's a bit longer then the one I have
3) it's adjustable
4) love the design and color
5) two sides for mild and aggressive
6) the price!
Thank you

I have used many modern and vintage razors - fixed and adjustable.

Great video. I have learned so much from your videos and that has been helpful as a new wet shaver. Don't you just love Stirling soaps. The best.

I love that razor Ken. I only own three DE razors but they are all Vikings Blade razors. The Emperor Meiji, Crusader Ragnarr and Chieftain 5BC.
Douglas Gordon Thanks Douglas👍👍💈
How do you Like the fatboy in comparison to the meiji? Greetings
@@dggordon2000 thanks a lot! Have a great day 🤝🏼
I like the Osma blocks.

👍👍
Great shave. My blade sampler pack arrived today. It contains an assortment of Gillettes, Astras, Bics, Permasharps and Voskhods for me to try out. Among them are the Gillette Wilkinson Swords that you recommended me and everyone else to try out. But the Gillette Wilkinson Swords I received are the ones from China, not the Indian saloon pack version you typically use. Regardless, I’ll see if they work for me
