This Solar Cycle on I.Q: Sean and Archibald touch down on a celestial body for the first time in months, and suffer the worst case of pins-and-needles in their lives, and Sean's secret mission is almost compromised through inadvertent pillow talk. Meanwhile, fuel supplements go quantum back on Kerban, and Dres feels something buzz past its ear for a second... ...Oh, and things explode...
Thanks for making fun things like this Scott. It gave me something to cheer me up after hearing about the passing of one of my college professors. It's nice to have some science and humor to listen to.
This series is still some of the best KSP content on UA-cam. It's not just the interesting mission profile, but the hilarious _and_ exciting storytelling.
Since you made a 50 shades of gray comment about the sand of Ikea the flag could have said something like" Ikea is something best talked about in private"
scott, the RCS tanks might have the green arrows turned to red xs, meaning that even though there's plenty of rcs fuel, the tanks can't be used until they're returned to green arrows
It's done manually so as to not drain mono prop fuel from small tanks on the ship that are intended to be used independently. the game drains mono prop equally from all tanks regardless of fuel flow, so a small tank may end up being completely used when attached to the mothership, but then have none left when detached
Ouch. If you had the Action Group Manager mod, you could have bound all of your unused scientific experiments to one of the hotkeys and wouldn't have to worry about choosing which science to collect in such a short window!
Scott, I saw on the Duna Express you had an even amount (160/190) of monopropellant left. By this I infer that you have used the 30 MP that comes in the capsule and either have managed to not connect your ship parts correctly for automatic fuel transfer or you have MP tank(s) turned off. You might want to click on the tanks to make sure they're turned on and/or see if you can manually transfer fuel into the capsule. Edit: I think it's likely you had them turned off in order to avoid using your landing/docking fuel for orientation maneuvers in the larger craft.
One way to get as much beamed power as possible is to have multiple stations in low orbit around Kerbol, this would cause power to be beamed around the entire system.
Scott Manley, you have been the BIGGEST SAVAGE in this episode and the last. Last Episode: "He traveled the farthest, fastest, and *hottest* " This Episode: "Do you know who else was rushing for Duna? Ermin Kerman."
H70 is definitely some nasty stuff. One time we were servicing some bottles and someone had tossed a rag into the neutralization barrel(whoever set the barrel up had it mixed to like 30-40% Chlorine) and that rag burned to a crisp...there was enough water in there to keep the heat from turning to flames but when your trying to gather stuff up and there is burned flakes floating in the barrel it makes ya think.
It's easy to forget that there was a time before a certain book release that saying 50 Shades of Grey didn't necessarily have a sexual stigma attached to it. I mean sure it could have been used in that way, but now if you say it that's probably the first thing they think of even if they haven't read it because every woman ever mentions it.
If it hasn't been mentioned already, you can make an action group to trigger all science parts at once. This gives you all their reports all stacked on top of each other to save or transmit one after the other. But no having to move the camera to hunt each science part.
Lol it's as if Scott has multi-personality disorder. He controls enming and gets himself killed, then uses enming (himself) as an example to scare himself into not rushing
For the beamed power Scott, rather than using 4 antennae you could use a rotatatron with a 90 degree powered hinge on top of it and aim the antennae better? This will leave your craft lighter and you have to right click less things. Like so he can see?
Scott, have you ever looked at the 6S (or something to that effect) Service Compartments? It eliminates the need to have oddly mismatched part radii and lets you hide all your scientific gear and such inside your spacecraft.
R3bel02 Okay... Why not? You can trigger almost every piece of science through the action groups. I mean, I know you can't send or improve science through that, but you can easily trigger the collection... Just tested it out. Yepp works.
Strange, the yaw, pitch, and roll indicators in the bottom left werent moving either. like time advance is active or the control scheme is disabled or active for an unmanned part
Sean: What? I wasn't talkng about that! Archibald: Sean,.you do realize you talk in your sleep right? Sean: Uhh no I didn't realize that! It's probably a really bad idea to give me secret orders then! Mission control: O.O remember that time we told Sean about the thing? Yeah... We should really stop telling everyone our secrets.
I think for a case like the dres flyby, a mod like Action Group Manager would be perfect so you can set those action groups in flight. I know you said you don't use action groups because of the way docking messes with them but AGM allows you to fix them
While I like beamed power, In my KSP interstellar save I've taken to using it to power my landers from a somewhat substantial fusion powered mothership rather than rely on an array back at kerbin or at kerbol. Mostly because I am impatient. And because it looks cool.
I put the mothership on a highly eccentric orbit so that it stays in range of the lander for a good hour or so. Besides when the lander is being beamed enough power to use a KSP fusion engine, it doesn't need to be in range for very long given the high TWR.
Did you ever try assigning a custom action group to your solar panels, radiators, and communications dishes? ...Or are those messed up by all the staging and docking? xD
Why didnt you just link the experiments to your 1-0 hot keys? So you can just press like 1 or 2 buttons and all of your science experiments then turn on and log. An idea for a future episode maybe :)
if only there were some form of buttons or key commands almost like an action group of sorts that could be programed to run all the experiments at once
TheMohawkNinja Hahaha... You are implying that people on the internet actually know what they're doing any more than people in "real life"? People are people, people are stupid and make mistakes. Trust neither.
There's a bug, as I understand it, where your craft get thrown around by phantom forces if you're orbiting at less than 750 m/s. Makes docking, and space station operations generally, in orbit of most moons a bit of a bitch. Squad is apparently aware of it.
***** Docking under normal conditions is not an issue for me. This is a problem with phantom forces throwing craft around and forcing the player to compensate. You can see it happening in Scott's video when his undocked lander starts drifting in one direction without any thrust being applied.
Watching all episode's in a row. Makes great entertainment. Way better then normal TV.
Me to!
Same here!😸
+Khajiit Meow Me too. Watched from ep. 19 today
I'm doing exactly the same, all these years later
If you look out the window to your left, you'll see beautiful gray Dre- I mean, more space!
This Solar Cycle on I.Q: Sean and Archibald touch down on a celestial body for the first time in months, and suffer the worst case of pins-and-needles in their lives, and Sean's secret mission is almost compromised through inadvertent pillow talk. Meanwhile, fuel supplements go quantum back on Kerban, and Dres feels something buzz past its ear for a second...
...Oh, and things explode...
the most accurate and concise summary i can imagine
Sean and Archibald have pillow talk.
Nice.
Meanwhile on kerbin:
Ethan Kermann: "SHAUUUUUUUUUN! SHAAAAAAUUUUUUUN! SHAAAAAAAAAAAUN! SHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAUN! SHAAAAAAUN!"
Thanks for making fun things like this Scott. It gave me something to cheer me up after hearing about the passing of one of my college professors. It's nice to have some science and humor to listen to.
Scott of the Manley has managed to dumb down his technical terms for us plebs.
Glorious.
Let it get more higher tech-er sir!
This series is still some of the best KSP content on UA-cam. It's not just the interesting mission profile, but the hilarious _and_ exciting storytelling.
Since you made a 50 shades of gray comment about the sand of Ikea the flag could have said something like" Ikea is something best talked about in private"
the voices you give the kerbalnauts are adorable
'The camera is turning on me'
So, that dratted thing is finally showing its true loyalties...
scott, the RCS tanks might have the green arrows turned to red xs, meaning that even though there's plenty of rcs fuel, the tanks can't be used until they're returned to green arrows
cgerman5 but why does it happen
It's done manually so as to not drain mono prop fuel from small tanks on the ship that are intended to be used independently.
the game drains mono prop equally from all tanks regardless of fuel flow, so a small tank may end up being completely used when attached to the mothership, but then have none left when detached
Just finished the last episode and a new one appears! It's like a marathon!
Thanks Scott, and fly safe! o7
Action groups Mr. Manley, that would have made the collecting of science at high speed much easier.
Ouch. If you had the Action Group Manager mod, you could have bound all of your unused scientific experiments to one of the hotkeys and wouldn't have to worry about choosing which science to collect in such a short window!
Scott, one word, just one word: Action...groups. Ahem.
I could have sworn he was time accelerating over Dres but nope. Damn, that was fast
Man Scott your videos are the best!
***** Rofl, I can see both comments that you replied "It's over 9000" on, I hate when I do that xD
When you talk of Seans mission it reminds me of that wild mun landing earlier in IQ when he almost died.
Scott, I saw on the Duna Express you had an even amount (160/190) of monopropellant left. By this I infer that you have used the 30 MP that comes in the capsule and either have managed to not connect your ship parts correctly for automatic fuel transfer or you have MP tank(s) turned off. The boosters on the thermal test. xD jesus they almost blew up the main event.
Hey Scott, just a word for the future: On craft that use the plasma engine, empty the oxidizer. It isn't used and is just dead weight.
Why the future? That's exactly what I did with the Eve launcher?
One of your plasma driven craft, the one doing a flyby I think, still had oxidizer in it. (17:00)
Ryan Lynch ONly a tiny amount from the Oscar B fuel tanks, the majority of the tanks were Liquid fuel only.
I've landed on Duna, but I didn't have enough fuel to make a stop at Ike. Hopefully I'll return there sometime...
You do realise that you can bind science to hotkeys so that you don't miss anything
Dude I love you, been your fan for years.
One way to get as much beamed power as possible is to have multiple stations in low orbit around Kerbol, this would cause power to be beamed around the entire system.
Scott Manley, you have been the BIGGEST SAVAGE in this episode and the last.
Last Episode: "He traveled the farthest, fastest, and *hottest* "
This Episode: "Do you know who else was rushing for Duna? Ermin Kerman."
Wow... Dres... I haven't even been to Dres since it was added to the game. :x
XD its ok, nothing to see there.
I've not been to dres, eoloo or any of the joolean moons exept laythe. Im just lazy haha
MysticPing XD yeah it takes forever to get out there
Asad Uppal Sounds like a government cover-up. "Nothing to see, move along."
The amount of "XD" in this group of comments is too damn high.
Modifier key can lock down RCS, I believe. The one being used to pump fuel around and copy parts. Doesn't hurt trying to press it.
Ahh old school 3d glasses never worked for me I'm colorblind and it just made everything look funny :)
LOL, that flyby pretty intense, 30 seconds to get all you data, wow.

+Jesse Lacey
You basically said "That name meant nothing when that name meant nothing"
Congrats on saying nothing
The Mono prop bug has killed me in many landings
Wait, there's a bug? Explain?
Sometimes when you load up a save RCS wont work. At least for me
Huh, interesting. Never had that problem myself.
You like Ike, I like Ike, Everybody likes Ike for president.
If it hasn't been mentioned already, you can make an action group to trigger all science parts at once. This gives you all their reports all stacked on top of each other to save or transmit one after the other. But no having to move the camera to hunt each science part.
33 Kilometers! That sure doesn't look like 33 kilometers.
Those oldschool red/blue gel 3D glasses are anaglyph glasses.
Wow, only 3 mins after the upload! Nice!
and that is why you need action goups (for all science stuff)
"Ike an't think of anything to write on this flag"
Its like the beginning of apollo 18
Oh the beauties if an unfinished game breaking repeatedly
Kurt had a mod that would give all the Kerbals 3D-Glasses but I think he lost that mod a some time ago. :)
Lol it's as if Scott has multi-personality disorder.
He controls enming and gets himself killed, then uses enming (himself) as an example to scare himself into not rushing
You can EVA to orbit on Ike??
Rescue mission incoming for my three kerbals stranded there!
You should put up a relay system for the beamed power system as well.
*facepalms at the 50 Shades joke*
I have been told that hydrazine is used by kerbals as beer!
For the beamed power Scott, rather than using 4 antennae you could use a rotatatron with a 90 degree powered hinge on top of it and aim the antennae better? This will leave your craft lighter and you have to right click less things. Like so he can see?
Try linking your expirements to action groups. It will make collecting science faster and more convenient. Great video!
I love how you say "Giotto Probe".
Just googled it, that spacecraft did a very interesting job!
I think Sean is a badass and so is that kerbal named Sean
You needs to put a power station out past Duna
ravioli ravioli gotta check those graviolis
Ike, Fifty shades of grey.
Scott, have you ever looked at the 6S (or something to that effect) Service Compartments? It eliminates the need to have oddly mismatched part radii and lets you hide all your scientific gear and such inside your spacecraft.
"Oldschool red/green glasses"
ok.
red/green
"Ike, stay back!"
Scott, you should make a microwave relay network or something like that.
If only he would have put "I like Ike" as the flag for Ike.
my best guess is that the RCS tanks on the lander have the fuel crossflow disabled
Dat flyby.
when he zoomed out on the orbit map at around 10:04, his solar system is like a spider web!!!
You could have used an action group to fire all the science at once, you know... that would really save you some time.
He couldn't, don't try to be smart.
Scott, you can use action groups to perform science experiments. Also to deploy the solar panels and such
Finally, I got to a video seconds after upload!
I think that your monopropellent might not be in a space that allows fuel transfer.
I have sneazed slower than you did all that science
Ghilly is silly, but there's nothing quite like Ike.
Scott, maybe the RCS is blocked a part with no crossfeeding? If not i don't know what could have been the problem
I think for a case like the dres flyby, a mod like Action Group Manager would be perfect so you can set those action groups in flight. I know you said you don't use action groups because of the way docking messes with them but AGM allows you to fix them

He says landing is something we're good a but on Duma his base landed sideways and almost exploded
Ike: I fight for my friends.
Lol! I get it!
*Roy's our boy!*
Squiddy 0912 You'll get no sympathy from me.
Xancrim Great...*AAAAAEEEETHEEEER!!!*
SCOT GODDAMNIT MAKE A MODPACK!
I don't think the modders who worked hard to make the mods used in IQ would give permission/appreciate Scott making a mod pack.
a few relays would really help you out, and going beyond 1 AU from kerbin w/o a reactor for a plasma engine is silly.
Actually all of KurtJMac's Kerbals had 3D glasses, it was a plugin that SQUAD sent him.
5:24 lol... that pun...
Lightscape IT"S NOT A PUN!!! It's a referenced joke.
I like Hiking in Ike's Pykes
256 shades of grey, from what I remember from reading a lot of books about the theory of photography.
i think Scott Manly Just Invented Drive by Sciencing
which button for fast view change between the pods/kerbals without the spacecenter?
great video again scott
"Betterer" is better than "Better"
Khajiit Meow betterer is betterer than better
Don't Kick The Baby!
Action groups are great for gathering science during narrow windows. :)
Did you ever try assigning a custom action group to your solar panels, radiators, and communications dishes? ...Or are those messed up by all the staging and docking? xD

Yea
"that would be at least 50 shades of grey?"
You should have switched camera mode to "chase" and then camera would not turned when spacecraft had come closer to Dres..
Your Captain Obvious ;)
5:30 that reference had to be made.
I like ike.....hey! I remember that!
Ike'ant wait to go home

Arbie8327 My guess this is a floating-point issue due to the scale of all velocities being quite small. Rounding occurs and creates "phantom forces".
I still retain the opinion that this episode should have been called "And I be Ike: Beamed Power"
Eisenhower was one of our greatest presidents.
eisenhower ALSo led the allied european front
Creeper_Ian02 Productions Reagan started the whole US Debt thing.
this was a long time ago just let this conversation die please

he WAS the best! he started NASA
Do shades count as glasses? Because Jebediah Bob and Bill wore shades, flying into the sun.
