- Springtime is known for producing some of the best walleye fishing of the year, and 90% of the time this is when you will find them as shallow as they get. There are many ways to catch these fish, but in this video, I'm going to cover the 3 top methods that have worked, and continue to work, for years and then I'm going to give you my personal top 3 methods that have worked for me in many situations to put lots of shallow spring walleyes in the live well!

I will be trying these all out tomorrow. Thanks for sharing!
Awesome. Good luck!
Thank you for not having a loud, annoying intro. No razzle dazzle , just great advice.
Just keeping it real over here! 😆 thanks!🙏
The classic bright colored jig head with a minnow and about 5ish feet depth bobber with my two brothers we had a hell of walleye day
Tough to beat watching bobbers drop!
Love your videos. By far the most educational ones I come across.
Thank you!
Thank you! I’m glad you find them helpful.
Great job guys. The filming and editing is fantastic! Looking forward to the next one!✌️
Thanks very much!!
Great vid Caleb - your presentation style is excellent, and this is good info!
Thank you so much!
The standup jighead and minnow never fails me. Even in the summertime when walleye are out feeding in the morning and it warms up so they start moving out deep, send a heavier stand up and minnow out there to get them before the bite turns off.
Good stuff!
Really like the content and you continually seam to get better , Keep it up .
Thanks so much! That’s super encouraging.
I don't fish for walleye (Florida bank fisherman) but I enjoy your presentations. This was particularly good one with a ton of information. Thank you also for the advice you have given. Wish you a great year.
Thank you! I was just in Florida a couple weeks ago doing some bank fishing. First time fishing freshwater down there. It was interesting. Caught gar, largemouth, tilapia and some nice bream.
Caught my first ever walleye yesterday. FIshing from the shore in about 8-10' or water. Super fun fish to catch.
That’s awesome! They are usually shallow this time of year.
Thanks for the video. Never been much of a walleye fisherman but that's getting ready to change this week. Headed to Truman lake and hit that spring time bite.
Good luck!
Just subscribed to your channel! That was a fantastic video!! Thank you for sharing this with us!
Thanks so much!
I love that you're using circle hooks. When I talk with Wisconsin anglers I bet maybe 1% are circle hook users. And It's still surprises me that they're not widely used around here
Yep. They are very underrated!
Great stuff, Thank You!
Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed it.
Ive got the perfect place to try that weedless rig. Im gonna have to give that a try this weekend! Im new to walleye fishing and just caught my first one on inland opening day here in Michigan!
Nice! It works. Good luck.
Great advice. I never even heard of a stand up jig until now.
Thanks!
Great video, thanks!
You bet!
Really enjoy your videos man. I live in northern Minnesota so a lot of what you talk about working In northern Wisconsin works here as well.
Thanks! Yes, very similar water over there.
another great video, thanks...
Thank you!
Excellent video.
Thanks!
Good tips!
Thanks! Hopefully you can use them to catch some fish!
Tonight is my night with these new techniques
Good luck!
Awesome video, makes me want to get out on the water!
Thanks!
I'm trying to break out of the "jig and minnow" rut this spring and appreciated the tips for plastics and cranks and sticks.
Good deal! We just crushed the fish today on jerk baits. Definitely was the deal. 4 walleyes and 20 smallmouth all on artificial. Once you get the confidence you can outfish live bait on many days.
We had late ice off in Saskatchewan this year. Went fishing last weekend and water temp was 47 F at surface in 5-10 feet. Never caught a walleye but caught a few pike.
Yeah. Little cold yet. I like to see just over 50 for the walleyes to really start banging.
Enjoyed your video over breakfast. Heading to the Detroit river now to fish Walleye for the first time. I would have liked to see some close ups of the hooks and jigs you were showing.
Awesome. Hope you do well this spring!
In the rivers I do good with rapala countdowns in sizes c7 and c9 in the two original colors black/gold and silver/gold. Also do really good with rapala shallow raps size sr7 in Bluegill color only. Other colors dont seem to work for me but that blue gill they just murder it and i dont jerk them like the countdowns, just steady retrieve for the shallow raps
Good to know!
Should go to Kabeelo Lodge in Northwestern ontario Canada..great walleye fishing!
I’ll check it out.
I love those weed walleye, same set up but with small flipping jigs for bass for ok for me,not much ppl in those weeds big plus
Nice! In rivers we have done well with little bass jigs too around wood cover.
Cool vids with a lot info here for a canadian who cant wait for summer to be back.
Looking at your xraps, pink one is it xr06? Cant find any "rapple" xraps. Cant hear clearly what you said. Thanks in advance
I believe it’s the XR08. The other bait I was referring to is the Shadow Rap Deep.
@@calebwistad awesome bro thanks on the fast reply !
Theyre nailing deep dive husky jerks. Had a monster on last week at least 24in on 6lb test here in west Michigan. Didnt have a net and i was trying to bank him because im shore fishing and had to get around a bush that was next to a breakwall, line get caught up and he broke off. At least now i know they're there
Sounds like a blast!
@@calebwistad just had a monster Pike on earlier in the same spot but yet again no net couldn't land em. Tried hoisting him up but snap
Hello hello I like your videos I follow you recommendations the good time to fish do you recommend what time do you re
🙏
What do you recommend for a rocky bottom? Pretty good walleye spot where I live but the bottom is nothing but rock, not much structure or vegetation.
Rock is great for holding walleyes. That jerkbait method should work good early when they are shallow. Slip bobber rigs are great for snaggy rock areas too.
Do you do a slower or is quicker retrieve better in spring and summer ?
Typically the warmer the water, the quicker the retrieve. That’s a general rule but should be a good place to start.
I heard another guy say on the lipless the first time he lifts his bait he gets more aggressive to let any fish in the area know it there and get them to investigate and the get shuttle just as you described.
Sutle not shuttle.
Sutle not shuttle.
Suttle. Got it! lol. Yes. It definitely works.
Do you ever use sents on your artificial baits?
I do sometimes. Always BillyRub!
Why 15lb Braid ? Is not 10lb not enough ? Do you use 15 vs 10 for less wind knots ? What brand Braid do you like ? Thanks
Nice video and tips !
10 is enough for many applications but if I can get away with 15 it’s better. I don’t lose as many baits to snags and I can get big fish in quickly so they dont tire too much before I release them.
anyone know the background music at around 2:00 ??
It’s music from Epidemic Sound. Some good stuff, all licensable.
Where is that link to ea h of those lures?
The links are in the video description on UA-cam. Scroll down to the bottom of the description and you will see them.
i kayak in and use a lucky strike spinner with a worm , always do decent
Nice! I just got a kayak this year and have some spots I’d like to hit.
I'm headed to the lake! Happy Easter everyone.
Hope you had a great day! Happy Easter.
