The first song is called, “Ghost of Perdition”. The story start in a small cottage where a young man is actually witnessing his mother who struggles with her sanity become possessed. The young man is tempted by the devil to surrender his soul, but because he is seeing her become possessed the young man refuses. The possession takes the mother so badly that the son murders her to release her from the grasp of the demon… The second song is called, “ The Baying of The Hounds”. The young man is condemned for murdering his mother by the town’s people and they release the town dogs to track him. Occasionally through this song the devil speaks to the young man attempting to torment him for murdering his own mother. He slips in and out of what appears to be a dream like state feeling that maybe he is dead… The third song is called, “Beneath the Mire”. The devil speaks louder now. He flees into a mire(HE DID WHAT?!) and hides from the hounds. Townspeople die by sinking in the mire while searching for him and he begins to feel more powerful. The young man begins to feel that he might be possessed himself… The fourth song is called, “Atonement”. Here the man is able to clear his head and he repents for what he has done. He feels that he has received forgiveness for what he has done, but he knows that he will never be able to justify it… The fifth song is called, “Reverie/Harlequin Forest”. The townspeople have picked up the young man’s trail again and are now fully chasing him. He flees into a forest(NO WAY!) and while hiding he finds himself in a situation where he has to murder one of the people to keep from being discovered. The young man suddenly feels the power again. He begins to see that he has no way of life other than running and murdering to survive. The young man sets fire to the forest and kills not only all the trees, but all the townspeople as well… The sixth song is called, “Hours of Wealth”. The young man has found a home in a new town, but feels like a stranger and alone at all times. The longer that he’s there, the more that he doesn’t speak to anyone. He retreats into his mind and slowly starts to feel insane. It is revealed that the devil is biding his time with the man… The seventh song is called, The Grand Conjuration”. The young man, feeling completely alone, turns to the devil and surrenders his soul. The man goes on a murdering spree and destroys everyone around him to build the army of satan stronger… The eight and final song is called, “Isolation Years”. A letter is discovered that was written by the mother, who is revealed to be a woman named Rosemary. The letter states that she will die alone and seems to be coherently written. The letter details that Rosemary knew her son was gone, even though his physical body was still there. It is discovered that the letter was written while she was murdered by her son due to stains of blood, which are essentially right where his name is written on the letter. This all reveals that the young man was actually the one struggling with a demon, while his mother was documenting it while also knowing that she would end up losing her life.
Nice description save for the last song, since it's not part of the main theme of the album (which ends at "The Grand Conjuration"). Mikael liked it so much that he left it there.
This story is also scrapped from the album so songs aren’t exactly in the order in which Mikael originally intended, he felt a story of a guy killing his own mother was too brutal.
Havent listened to alot of Opeth and a song like this tick alot of boxes of alot of people, metalheads, oldschool rockers etc, if you tick one box you open the door for another or several others.
I have been ridning the Opeth wave since the very beginning. Im not sure the words to describe how good they are have been invented yet. 😍 You need to see them live because its a journey you will never forget 🤘🤯 Just so you know the lightshow is almost fully manual. Some of it is auto but only a few percent. A guy named Magnus is doing the most with his fingers. Amazing dude he is 👍
First time I listened to Opeth about 20 years ago I fell in love. My favorite band of all time. No one can even come close to what they created. They have influenced some of the best metal and prof bands today yet there are still so many ppl who don’t know them. They formed in like 1988. They are legends! I love the new stuff too.
@@pinnacleproductions6275 The only band i think of that has a similar style of music or atleast close would be Dream Theater. They have made some really good songs that have that heavy progressive style.
HalfLifeSistah, it’s so good to see your reaction to this marvellous song ! That’s exactly how I would like my friends and family to understand what this band’s music means to me 😄
Saw Opeth live this past November with Mastodon and their live sound is absolutely impeccable. Mikael is truly a perfectionist and it really shows. First words out of his mouth after playing the opening track were “How does it sound?”
I would agree, and was introduced to them around the same time. The first time I saw them live was on the Deliverance tour, Devin Townsend opened for them, killer!
I have to agree with you. Blackwater Park gave rise to a huge new fanbase that would keep growing. Ghost Reveries was the next step in making Opeth a well known and well respected band internationally, gathering a ton of new fans from all over the world. From Still Life to Watershed... I love'em all. I love their newer stuff as well (with a few exceptions), esp. In Cauda Venenum. To me they basically had three eras... First era: Orchid, Morningrise, My Arms Your Hearse (Candlelight Years) - Second Era: Blackwater Park, Deliverance, Damnation, Ghost Reveries and Watershed. Then the third and current era started, the prog rock years.
I am with Halflifesistah on this one!! Opeth was traditional Death metal band with Progressive tendencies but since Ghost Reveries they change to a Progressive Metal with death metal Tendencies. And I love their evolution. This song takes us with it into a journey filled with many emotions and certainly it’s a beautiful song
I love this live version, it was performed and recorded live at Red Rocks Amphitheater which is just outside Denver Colorado. which is one one of the most beautiful venues ever, built on the side of a mountain.
GHOST REVERIES is my fav album. Any genre. Period. I discover something new with each listen. I wish I could share this Record with more people to show them how majestic, how beautiful Progressive Death Metal can be. Love the Video!!! 🤘🏼
i saw opeth at a small venue in kansas city at the beaumont club. the absolute hands down rhe loudest show that building had, i had my skin flaps on my ears shoved down on ear plugs with my thumbs to hear they played it to complete perfection. one if the best shows outside of tool i have ever seen...my favorite band . ..for sure
Steve Wilson deserves a ton of credit. He helped Opeth get that incredible sound, a similar sound to Porcupine Tree. I was lucky enough to see both of them play live together.
Both Steven Wilson and Mikael Akerfeldt are gods of progmetal. Porcupine Tree and Opeth are two of my all time favorite bands. SW is a mix-master tho indeed, probably one of the very very few who can produce as well as the great Alan Parsons himself.
I love Opeth and axel's take on the new albums, but he didn't play this song better than lopez sadly. And i feel they play it quite slower in this live
@@hroj with Axe now departed from Opeth, hopefully they'll up the pace back up. Watching him playing slowly the outro of deliverance and struggling to do so was a little disappointing.
@@cheeseontoast9251 sadly not sure they'll ever go back to real death metal beats.. but oh well, as long as they like what they do we can't ask for more :'(
I was at that show! Loved every minute of it...thry have been at redrocks a few times, i believe this is when Gojira opened for them, and it was one of thr best shows I've seen
Was first introduced to Opeth when I saw them at sonisphere festival in 2011 and I'd never heard of them . Almost 11 years later they are my favourite band . So good !
Also no need for the apologies on lack of enthusiasm wolf . It's rare from anyone to get a reaction like sistah on first listen to anything. It's why I envy her so much lol
Fantastic song, just a shame people keep recommending the red rocks version. Mikael's vocals are so much better from the roundhouse tapes or Royal Albert Hall. For something a little older that never seems to be requested, give April Ethereal a go.
Nice to finally find someone who feels the same. The thing that makes Mikael's growls better than "average" is the tonality, and here it lacks texture, delivery, and dynamics too
The first time I heard this and half way through the next track on the album "The Baying of the Hounds" the realisation that this was the greatest band I'd ever heard hit me.
I don't blame ya. Hearing a song for the first time in a live environment throws you off even further sometimes. Even more so if you're at an actual show.
You’re a treasure Sistah. 🥲 Opeth deserves that outpouring of emotion. I unfortunately have to be a stick in the mud and say the definitive live version of this incredible song is from The Roundhouse Tapes from way back. Maybe it’s just me, but Mikael’s “harsh” vocals sound strained to me here - then again, the clean vocals have a different feel, maybe even more depth. I guess I just don’t want to hear the voice in a growl - 100% growl for me plez. 🐯 Opeth has definitely moved me deeply though, still does nearly two decades later - even though I fell off when the metal part faded away, I still go nuts for any band that gives me Opeth vibes! 🤘🏻
Congratulations my friends!! ...Now here you have your best new year gift!!....Today it is very difficult to find reactors like you who have never reacted to the best singer in the world, Dimash Kudaibergen, who has 7 octaves and 3 semitones vocal range (An alien) ... Maybe someone made you a request to react to Dimash, but you have not had time .... I am going to dare to recommend that you meet Dimash, because when you do it for the first time, your life as reactor will change forever ....For example, the number of views that you have today, it will increase by 300% in a matter of a few hours and you will get a lot of new subscribers.....But when you react to Dimash, don't do it with his most recent songs ... I recommend that you go to the year 2017 and react to the song that made him a global idol ... I mean the performance he did Dimash from the famous French song called "SOS D'un Terrien en Détresse", when he participated in the famous Chinese reality show The Singer in that year 2017 ... With that performance Dimash earned the reputation of being the best singer on the planet, so I recommend you start with that one.... You can also start with the other famous live version of that song that Dimash did the following year 2018 when he was invited to the famous Slavic Bazzar festival in Belarus .... Both performances are from another planet...And I have to give you a warning: Never react to The World Best videos, because they suck!...Your life will never be the same again, after reacting for the first time to Dimash...And your first reaction to Dimash will be something very special, so I recommend that you do the best job of your life as a reactor, because that first video will be seen by thousands of people around the world, maybe millions...I hope to see you first reaction soon and if you don't mind, I'd like you to mention me as the person who recommended reacting to Dimash, but if you don't want to, that's fine...
She's was just feeling the song in such an amazing way and the guy upset... wtf??? Dude her reaction was beautifull!! Dude look at you in this video... wtf??? I wish i could have a woman so beautifull and so open minded to music like yours!
I know this was originally recorded last year but anyways... Opeth's style from their third and/or fourth album changed a lot from their first two albums and foreshadowed what would come. The progressiveness of their metal albums does require a certain taste developed for the non-linear songs they play, esp. when a single song contains ~4 parts that are completely different in intensity, atmosphere and emotional content. Combine that with the syncopation and polyrythmic stuff and it can take quite some time to develop an ear for it while listening to their albums multiple times. I've probably listened to their Blackwater Park album 1000+ times but I still hear "new" nuances in the songs. @Wolf: They have done some straight up brutal stuff here and there, esp. Wreath on the Deliverance album (2002) and Heir Apparent on the Watershed album (2008). They're among the heaviest songs they've ever done.
Haha I like how in the thumbnail he's looking at her like "how TF do you enjoy this garbage?" 😂😂 25:18, I've always been this way , even after hearing album version first a thousand times and then live a thousand times I almost always still enjoy the studio version best. I'd say only exception for me is if I'm actually AT the show experiencing everything live instead of watching a recording of the live performance. if that makes sense also also haha that end compilation 🤣🤣🤣
Opeth's early material is what I am drawn to most (Morningrise is my favourite), but all of their material is great. I still prefer the material that still incorporates the growls over the last couple of albums. I like both Mikael's clean vocals AND his growls...I find a lot of people shy away from this band because of his killer growls though...that's probably why he decided to drop them for the band's newest material. Either that, or it just doesn't suit the new direction the music is taking, which is much more progressive. Also, don't forget Gene Hoglan also played for Strapping Young Lad with Devin Townsend. Anyways, great band and an excellent reaction. Cheers!
NIGHTWISH AND MEGADETH?? 🔥 MARCO SINGING HEAVY SOLO? 🤘🏻 My suggestion is another cover of them, which we HARDLY see on UA-cam. And if you like a HEAVY Nightwish sound, this will be a very nice one! 🔥🤘🏻😎 Marco is singing solo on this one. Check out their cover of Megadeth, symphony of destruction. AND A HEAVY SIREN FLOOR & MARCO? The second also hardly on UA-cam, is a heavy Siren, The Siren performed live of course by Floor Jansen, and also again a very good singing Marco🔥❤️🤘🏻 Enjoy it, and I with you!
Greeting Wolf and Sista!!! I would very much like to see you reacting to Christmas Truce, by Sabaton (maybe at a Make Sista Cry reaction?). In my humble opinion, it's only the best music video of 2021, I'm sure you would enjoy it
Amazing live band but for some reason i also prefer the studio version of this song over this Red Rock version. I'v seen them live 5 times over the years. Last time was just before the pandemic hit in Oct 2019. It was the second last show i was at. Ghost a few weeks later was the last. Oh how i miss live music. At a show in 2013 Mikael announced that they hadn't played Ireland for years because the former drummer had trashed a hotel room on the last visit and they were barred from the country. Hard to know if that was true or not because he has a wicked sense of humor and likes to fuck with the audience (in a fun way)
Another great reaction! Opeth are gods! If you are willing to step a little further outside of the box on progressive music, there is a band called The Flower Kings. The singer from Pain of Salvation, Daniel Gildenlow, was in the band for a time and did some vocals, among other things. They have a song called "A Vampire's View" that showcases Daniel's voice in the most pure and perfect way. Here is the link: ua-cam.com/video/bpF4SeaYUcs/v-deo.html
Thanx to Ghost of Perdition and the entire Ghost Reveries album I got why Opeth is one of the greatest bands ever. Blackwater Park for me was a little pretencious and repetitive, but both Ghosts changed my opinion.
Me too , I Liked .. after I understood it .. I LOVE IT .. it's more amd more mEGA each time I hear it .. it relates to the following songs .. it's ghe same person being chased by the hounds .. in to the mire (beneath I know !!).. (consumate drumming is relaxed.. I love Sistahs reaction) .. and The Harlequin Forest. It is tasteful all the things she said. I like the other two on that list but they are not a gnats tweak on this, imo .. song writing, construction, musicianship. There again I've seen them many times in concert .. and loved every moment (OK I can't get into Demon of the Fall .. the only one)
Wolfie's original reaction is how I feel about Tool. However, unlike Wolfie, I have given Tool multiple listens and I just....can't stand them whatsoever. Opeth took me some time to like but now I love them.

The drummer is MARTIN AXENROT in opeth 2006-2022🤘🏼🤘🏼That man is epic
I wish anything affected me as much as Ghost of Perdition affected Sistah
That guy smiling in aknowledgment. Nothing more to do, really. Haha
def a masterpiece
Daaamn ur girl really loves prog metal lol 🤘🤘🤘
Hope you had a wonderful Christmas and new years celebration.
We did and I hope you did too my friend ❤️✊🤘
Thank you! You too! We love you :-** ♥
Oh god the Deliverance outro, I can’t…
Where can I find that masterpiece of an ending video? The Deliverance dance moves are amazing.
A song that just keeps on giving!
It REALLY does!! ♥
That we should all be so lucky to be so touched by music...
Haha I like how in the thumbnail he's looking at her like "how TF do you enjoy this garbage?"
😂😂
25:18, I've always been this way , even after hearing album version first a thousand times and then live a thousand times I almost always still enjoy the studio version best.
I'd say only exception for me is if I'm actually AT the show experiencing everything live instead of watching a recording of the live performance. if that makes sense
also also haha that end compilation 🤣🤣🤣
i still didnt understand why you didnt check will ramos to the hellfire vocal playthrough yet
LOVE OPETH: HESSIAN PEEL or HEIR APPARENT
I wanna see Sistah reacting to Haken's Architect
One of my favorite songs ❤️
Haha Love you guys
Hahaha i love her reactions
Great Reaction, although this live performance is amazing. The Studio version is quite amazing too with all the production details.
MARCO SINGING HEAVY SOLO? 🤘🏻
My suggestion is another cover of them, which we HARDLY see on UA-cam.
And if you like a HEAVY Nightwish sound,
this will be a very nice one! 🔥🤘🏻😎
Marco is singing solo on this one.
Check out their cover of Megadeth, symphony of destruction.
AND A HEAVY SIREN FLOOR & MARCO?
The second also hardly on UA-cam, is a heavy Siren, The Siren performed live of course by Floor Jansen, and also again a very good singing Marco🔥❤️🤘🏻
Enjoy it, and I with you!
Wrong video lol
She feels that shit!
Best Metal Band Ever.
Absolute Beauty one moment- utter evil next.
Fear factory 🤘🤘🤘 to bad about the feud though between Dino and Barton
Greeting Wolf and Sista!!! I would very much like to see you reacting to Christmas Truce, by Sabaton (maybe at a Make Sista Cry reaction?). In my humble opinion, it's only the best music video of 2021, I'm sure you would enjoy it
Wow. That's a real reaction right there. Women love Opeth obviously. Sheesh. Contain yourself dammit. Hahaha.
Masters Apprentices or Blackwater Park!!!
Hello! Love your channel! New vid to look at! Try Imminence " Chasing Shadows and Alleviate" Might be a make sistah cry again. Cheers!
React: Shaman (For Tomorrow )
Angra - Carry On (álbum Angels Cry)
Angra - Running Alone (álbum Rebirth)
Shaman - Fairy Tale
2nd half was a sensory overload for her. Thought she'd pass out.
Love the bit at 14:50 where Wolf looks over - is she ok? And then he decides she is ok, about 10 or 15 seconds later :D
Here is the link:

Imagine voting for System Of A Down over Opeth and not suffering from CTE
🤘😎
Tool - *LaterALus*
Do Æther Realm - the sun the moon the stars please
React to killer be killed - dream gone bad. You guys would not be disappointed
Thanx to Ghost of Perdition and the entire Ghost Reveries album I got why Opeth is one of the greatest bands ever. Blackwater Park for me was a little pretencious and repetitive, but both Ghosts changed my opinion.
✨🔥🥰🔥✨
Please react to NEVERMORE " Dreaming neon black"!!!!
Please react to meshuggah that hurt that find you first
Wolfie's original reaction is how I feel about Tool. However, unlike Wolfie, I have given Tool multiple listens and I just....can't stand them whatsoever. Opeth took me some time to like but now I love them.
I'm guessing she doesn't listen to a lot of progressive metal lol
She's new to metal
