Who are BLACK COUNTRY, NEW ROAD?
The absolute pinnacle of British engineering.
Still can’t believe Isaac’s no longer a part of the band. Hope the guys can continue putting out great music going forward
I have full faith they’ll continue to impress us. Would love to see Isaac return one day though.
they are very instrumentally strong, i have no doubt they'll pull through, sad about isaac though
There are live recordings of new material on UA-cam if you want to see some of their new stuff :)
I love this entire album, but The Place Where He Inserted the Blade & Basketball Shoes stand as god tier songwriting in my books. The Place is the perfect antithesis to the dissonant sound they pursued in their first LP and Basketball Shoes has some of the best movements I’ve ever heard in a 10+ minute song. AOTY for sure
Those are the two tracks I keep playing over and over
Concorde was amazing as well
basketball shoes is one of the best songs ever made
A film score from them would be dope as hell. Part of me does hope Issac returns to the band eventually, he was such an impressive lyricist, but I do respect his decision to leave.
If this album was just the last three songs, I'd still think it would be my favourite album of the year so far.
Both albums are outstanding. FTFT is a ride! AFUT is a masterpiece though. From top to bottom, it's the tightest album I've ever heard. All the themes are clear in each track, and the finale is unlike anything out there.
AFUT doesn't only demand your attention, but rewards it. Handsomely.
How many albums have you heard? This album is not a masterpiece, trust me.
@@mikeking683why trust some stranger's opinion as if it is any sort of truth?
(also, real question: what do ya think of "ants from up there")
Can't believe BC,NR invented music in 2022, we've been making mics for 25+ years but had nothing to record with them
Wait what?! I saw these guys live a couple years ago in Bristol like "Huh yeah okay cool band"
Now I'm watching a Middle 8 video about them in total shock.
Love the way this dude speaks about bands I like. Articulate, enthusiastic and straight to the point!
The best thing about this album to me is that it's actually not mastered too loud. I mean, it's not super quiet, but it's got some punch to it.
Love this band! FTFT was one of my favorite albums of 2021, and Ants From Up There sits right alongside Big Thief, Orville Peck, Jack White, and Spiritualized in my top 5 of 2022 so far.
You should check out the new Sea Power album, it is right up there with Jack White, Big Thief, and BCNR for me
Ah what a cool coincidence i just went to a black midi gig last night and met the saxiphonist of BC,NR. Great band and AFUT is my second favourite album of all time great to see another big name speak about the second best slint tribute act.
I'm interested what you think of Shame's output. I found them the week they dropped their second album, and it blew my mind on my first listen, and then again on a second listen. Then I listened to their debut, and it continued to impress me, especially the closing track (which is now one of my favorite songs of all time). I prefer their sound to Squid, which a lot of people have compared them to. Probably because I like the more straightforward song structure Shame provides. Snow Day especially grew on me. I didn't like the building nature of it on first listen, But over the course of a few months, it became my favorite track. So much angst and emotion from a band isn't rare, but it feeling so genuine, as it does with Shame, is.
bc,nr absolutely slay i love them so much
Both the new album and their debut blew me away. Have been listening to them nonstop the last few months. Even though I hope Isaac might eventually come back to the band, if he doesn't, I think those two albums will easily become classics and Isaac might just be remembered as one of the greatest frontman, who unfortunately ended his career way too early. (Although it was for a good reason)
Love the recommended tracks in the description. Thanks for another great video.
So glad you’re shedding some light on these guys. Absolutely one of the best acts out there today 🙌🏻🙌🏻
Someone on social media described this as an "album of closers." Gotta agree and it's a great album.
I'm glad for the Haldern appreciation here! My favorite from the album. Great video, as always!
So far, this is my album of the year, and by far. The length of the tracks really empathize the change in mode. The theme of being in a relationship that doesnt really work out for anyone involved, but yet both are too afraid to let go even though they are so apart from each other is also something i really sympathize with since i had been in similar situation a month before this record comes out. It's so rare that music transcends into something more than just sound and reflects human emotions just so spot on. Last album I can remember that did that for me as A Crow look at me by Mount Erie. Especially the final moments of the album, third part of Basketball Shoes, cant keep a dry eye during that, its just so heartbreaking, yet beatiful. Even though Isaac left, i hope he will recover and I cant wait for whatever the band releases next. Also sorry for my bad english
Very funny to hear ninja tune called a small indie label. In the UK at least, being on Ninja Tune is usually a sign that you're going to blow the hell up and/or be insanely acclaimed
Album of the Decade. Top-5 album of all-time.
To be clear. Referring to Ants From Up There. AFUT absolutely shits on For The First Time. It's so much cleaner, more focused, better paced and lyrically so much stronger. Isaac pouring his heart out into lyrics, using an airplane and food as his metaphors for both a relationship with a women and more significantly his relationship with music and his fans.
I genuinely think people who prefer FTFT just want to be different. AFUT is AOTY, AOTD and a Top-4 album of all-time for me.
was waiting for this one from you!
im excited for the black midi video ive been needing a video like this of them for a while now
for the first time made my top 10 list for 2021, and honestly I would be shocked if anything tops ants from up there as my album of the year for 2022
Love seeing Wide Awake on your wall! Please make a video on Parquet Courts some time.
I first saw that Basketball Shoes live video and loved it, but they didn't really have any music recorded at the time so I forgot about them. Fast forward a few years and now they're my favourite band. Can't wait to hear what they do next!
I'm really glad I watched this! Every snippet I was like "WOW this sounds so good", I'll definitely be checking it out
The first movement of Basketball Shoes is a personal highlight for me
So glad to hear that he’s gonna talk about black midi though
fucking love this band and especially ants from up there, so glad to have it on vinyl, and the special first edition blue marble print one
Black country did say in a podcast they did with the drummer from Slint that they put 6 songs on their first album as a nod to Spiderland, and of course they reference Slint in Science Fair
Thanks man for turning me onto some new music...... definitely appreciate it :)
Subscribe for more 👍
i love your channel im exited every time you release a new video. from covering alt-j everything everything beach house and even glass animals. love your videos
🙏 thank you!
listening to for the first time for the first time was one of the few good memories i have from 2021
your taste of music really makes me curious on what you think of the microphones and mount eerie
Love you videos! You just got me into a new band :)
Would love to see a video on Black Midi
Thanks! And I definitely want to talk about them soon
Another great vid, Frank. The band's said that Tyler Hyde (Who occasionally performs solo @ the Windmill under Tyler Cryde) will take up primary vocal responsibilities but won't necessarily step up and be a frontman the way Isaac was.
I'm sunk on BCNR. I can't wait to see where they go next.
I would love to see them head toward a BADBADNOTGOOD kind of direction next. They already own the space without vocals.
When are you going to do a video about BADBADNOTGOOD??
this is the best album of all time
I have had ants from up there on nonstop since the release! So happy you posted a video about it and Black Country new road!😃
Love BCNR but goddamn dude middle8 be looking FINEEEEE
Glad to see bigger channels talking about them
Love the video! What editing program do you use to create the visuals? They're great
from what ive gotten from my limited experience with their discography, im reminded more of king krule and los campesinos while than i am of arcade fire (though its also very obvious that they take inspirations from af)
Never clicked on a video so fast!
they’re the second best slint tribute act of course
God I love this channel. Two acts I would love to see her the Middle8 treatment: Son Lux and Spanish Love Songs (particularly Brave Faces Everyone).
Everyone makes the Arcade Fire comparison and I struggle to see it so much. The examples you showed definitely help illuminate, so thanks for that. I feel like maybe my perspective is clouded because all I really hear is Bright Eyes.
Don't know about 10/10, but it's really great and really similar to Funeral indeed.
this is definitely a 10/10, i'd say it's their version of arcade fire's funeral
Richard Dawson spotted in the background. Remarkable songwriter, hope you'll make a video about him someday!
I love BCNR but I have to listen to it alone with headphones because in the car, road noise ruins it, and other people usually don't get it on the first listen.
You should do a video about Amyl and the Sniffers and/or Idles next.
I love your videos especially the Radiohead ones. BC,NR quickly became one of my favorite bands since the release of CSM and Concorde. I'm really glad they're getting more and more recognition.
“I like listening to happier music,” makes a million videos on Radiohead haha.
For anyone wondering why this video is unlisted, afaik it's because they put it on Nebula and are trying to get people to watch additional content (including this, it seems) on there
Watching this video in April 2024... BCNR IS STILL AMAZING!!! Although Isaac's strong lyrics and unique vocals gifted the band a great sense of style, i'm afraid to admit it kinda overshadowed the CRAZY talent of the other six members of the band.
Now sharing the microphone duties and taking a melodious score-ish sound. The material they presented on their 'Live at Bush Hall' release and the brand new material they have been playing on tour blows my mind when thinking of the talent these kids have. Tyler's crazy vocals, Lewis' amazing approach in child-like songwriting, and for God's sake... May Kershaw's piano-led fables are just soulbreaking.
Seeing them live is OUT OF THIS WORLD and makes me sooo excited for their third studio album!!!!!
why'd you unlist this video, it's great.
Just left London as these bands were exploding. Recently watched Dry Cleaning in Amsterdam and it's wild how these bands are all popping at the same time.
It’s nice to see more of your face. I loved the faceless films too.
👋
The guy running this channel does a great job
You should definitely take a look at the band strfkr. Especially the album miracle mile.
I was lucky enough to see BCNR at Wide Awake festival last summer, alongside their peers: Black Midi, Shame, Squid, Goat girl, (you know the roster). It was a highlight of my 21 year life so far as living in the north, and covid prevented me from seeing them sooner. I was in a field with my good friends from university, and thousands of others who were true music lovers and fully into it.
Hearing basketball shoes in its entirety, at a music festival did feel like a climax . And there was a strange feeling in the crowd after the conclusion of their set.
I hope one day Isaac will feel comfortable, and safe enough to return and see how much value he’s added to a lot of people’s lives through a global crisis.
Why did this video get unlisted? I literally thought I was going crazy when I couldn't find it!
Album of the fucking decade
As a fan of the electronic uk dance band called Underworld, I really enjoyed this review. And Tyler Hyde from Black Country New Road is the daughter of Karl Hyde who is the lead singer of Underworld. Known for their 1996 song Born Slippy Nuxx from the Trainspotting film soundtrack.
I suggested this band a while ago and the madman actually made a video on them! Well done 👏😀 Feeling validated lol
I know it’s not relevant to this video, but it’s nice to see Peasant by Richard Dawson on the wall 👌🏻
One day youll make a dope vid on Stand Atlantic. I can feel it
I haven't heard of these guys before, but their sound reminds me of Crywank, yes that's the bands name
Still waiting on that Jack White vs Black Keys video that I was promised all those years ago…
My guess is that the next album is going to be a live album, given they do a lot of improvising
For anyone into BC,NRs angsty lyrics I’d highly recommend checking out some of Isaac Woods’ solo stuff, there’s a few on UA-cam, very intense
Some of the bands old unreleased stuff is also great and on UA-cam too (Algorithm, Kendall Jenner etc). Lou Smith’s channel has some great live recordings from the Windmill
I gave any from up there a listen and wasn't all that impressed. It hasn't clicked yet.
Thanks for giving me the motivation to give them another shot! Gonna give their debut a listen just now!
Check out Black Pumas next! 1 album released in 2020 and grammy nominated, Colors is amazing!
I THOUGHT YOUD NEVER TALK ABOUT THEM
Here we are 😉
I like this album but I wish it impacted as much as it seems to have most people. Big Thief's "Dragon New Warm Mountain I Believe in You" is my heartstopper of 2022 so far.
He came around to BCNR after a re listen 😎
Also Slint is incredible
Fell in love with For The First Time ✌️
@@Middle8 I switch between liking one of the albums more than the other
Goooooodmooooorrrninnnnnggggg
You mentionned GYBE i would love a video about them, with lift you skinny fists for example
Yeah
Amazing album! But for me album of the year belongs to Gang Of Youths’ Angel in real time. Lyrics on the whole album are on another level. Would be amazing to see a video about it.
YESSSS
hell yea finally
Ants From Up There is clearly AOTY (well we'll see with that Kdot drop). The Place Where He Inserted the Blade is already my all time most played song, and probably in my top 5 songs of all time ?
New Kenny album is gonna be a HUGE contender for AOTY
@@Middle8 sadly it wasn’t
Basketball Shoes is pretty easily the greatest song i have heard this decade in my opinion
Yeah I'd agree maybe if Place Where He Inserted The Blade didn't exist
Can't gloss over Wide Awake in the back, now ya gotta make a Parquet Courts video
I honestly don’t remember the last time that song destroyed me emotionally the same way as The place where he inserted the blade did. AOTY so far for me and not even close
Christ, I'm such a hipster.
I'm in my 40s and love all the bands you mentioned in this video, were it not for the fucking pandemic I'd have seen all of them live too.
Also, were it not for the pandemic, all of these bands would be absolutely massive.
Tribe called quest soon 🙌
FINALLY
Do an analysis of my morning jacket, the psychedelic band Woods or Lana Del Rey newest albums 😍
Parquet Courts video someday? 👀
You need to make vids about palm, black midi , deer hunter that would make my life worth living
easily my favourite album of the year and it probably won't be topped. my first 10 since 2018
This is one of my favourite albums of all time, listen to it nearly everday since release.
I AM INVINCIBLE IN THESE SUNGLASSES
Epic
The absolute pinnacle of British engineering, indeed.
I believe the band is more than adequate, even if they leave Isaac out of it
Can we get an animal collective video
I found your channel literally 2 hours ago and I am hooked! As a suggestion, it would be so great if maybe you could check out Donald Glover and perhaps make a video on his album "Awaken, My love!" I think it would be super interesting as you really do your research and It is so fun to listen to your thoughts. Thank you!
