Personally, I don't recommend going to Shanghai and Shenzhen. There are only modern buildings. If you want to experience Chinese fashion culture, please come to Chengdu and Chongqing. If you want to experience traditional Chinese culture, Xi'an, Beijing, Luoyang and Nanjing are the best places

It will never changed with elected representatives who are Chinaphobia or make China bashing to score political points and popularity which are not doing well to upgrade when the UK elected reps start banning Huawei for no security reasons. In fact Huawei offer cheaper more efficient communication. To ban Huawei and China companies who are helping the UK economy was a stupid thing to do.. There is no other better cheaper alternative.
We are using Huawei here in ASEAN and our kids and adults are using tik tok without problem. Hahaha that UK PM kowtow to Biden to cancel a meeting with president Xi just because to discuss an Unidentified stray missle which happened to fall into the border of Poland. ASEAN are laughing. The UK PM did not care about the wellbeing of UK and its people. Recently both PM of Singapore and Malaysia were received warmly. There were bilateral investment of billions of dollars. Singapore other than getting China DFI into Singapore also manged to sign MOU to invest in China (good foreign income).
Malaysia on the other hand came back richer with MYR 170 billion in FDI (foreign Direct Investment) from China.

@@johnsmith-cw3wo Yes and I would love to take such a train from Western Europe all the way to Beijing, stopping at various cities along the way. Then trains all over China, then back to Europe by a different route. It would save the issue of hotels and be perfect for really seeing China.

They are also smart using the slower first generation D rolling stock for the overnight sleepers and replacing the day trains with 350km+ faster and newer trains

Nice video man. I love getting around on the HSR, just enjoyed a four day trip from Shenzhen up to Chenzhou in Hunan, about 350km north and two hours on the train. The speed, reliability and long running times open up a lot of possibilities, for example I was able to enjoy a full day in the mountains before dropping my rental car at the shop just next to the HSR station, grabbing a bite to eat, then boarding my train to arrive back to my apartment around midnight, ready to work the next day. This definitely beats the experience available by flying (at least in China, where security can take a while and evening flights are often delayed) and it was extremely affordable as well at about 250 RMB one way.
Good to know the sleepers are running. I imagine the ride is smooth enough that I could sleep pretty well on one of those.
Looking at the schedule it seems the overnight sleepers are already not just running on Friday and Saturday. They're running every day through the May Day holiday, and it Lola's like Thursday to Monday after that (though with only two weeks visible it's hard to be sure).
    Happy holiday!

Seems to be a CRH1E trainset, they consist of 16 carriages, 12 soft sleepers like the one you were in, one luxury sleeper (the one with the red seats and little sofa area after the dining car) which has 2 bunks instead of 4, a couch and integrated bathroom, a dinning car and 2 2nd class seating cars on each end of the train. They can go up to 250 kmh, but they usually keep it at 200 kmh for comfort and more convenient traveling times. Marvelous piece of engineering.

Thanks for sharing your special C train experience. I just flew Shanghai from Hong Kong last week. My flight from HKG to Shanghai was 11.55am. I need to head off to Hong Kong airport at 9am, checked in 2 hours before take off, flights, go through customs and luggage claim at arrival and travel from airport to Shanghai downtown ( I took the Maglev train which connects Shanghai Pudong International Airport and Longyang Road Station in the outskirts of central Pudong). It took 8 hours at least in total. My plane ticket costs 2 times of this sleeper train(Return). Next time I will definitely consider taking the sleeper train, considering the time cost and price. It would be a cool experience for my sons too.
Thanks for sharing. Wish you having a good one in Shanghai!

There’re also high speed train which is G series from Hk to Shanghai, which costs about 900 yuan rmb and 8 hours to get the destination . However the two stations (West Kowloon Station, Hong Kong and Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station) are closer to the downtown areas of the two cities than the airports. And more important, u can use your phone and stand or walk at anytime u want!
